Sin@crystyll FX | It's yet another one of those quiet days on the Valley Forge. The ship cruises through deep space for what has been almost a week now without contact or activity. No alien AI's, no Carran + Sin@crystyll: + Enforcers or undeveloped civilizations. Not so much as an asteroid to go and look at Sin@crystyll FX | Whilst many of the crew take the opportunity to enjoy a little downtime, catch up on holo's or personal research projects. For some the continuity of routine provides comfort. Routine like + Sin@crystyll: + Nishaa's daily patrol, seeing the same smiling faces that pass her by in the corridor's; Keelah always says a pleasant good morning as she passes Nishaa on her way to the holodeck for her morning + Sin@crystyll: + gym work. The same jeffries hatches checked and locked, everything the same as every other day. Until she walks past the astrometrics lab and hears the sound of clattering from inside... NPC@annpc#5570 steps up to the astrometrics door, "Everything alright in there?" Sin@crystyll FX | The room appears empty at first, as Nishaa enters. But as she speaks... Sin@crystyll pops up from behind the console with a startle, "Hm? What? It wasn't me!" NPC@annpc#5570: "Any idea what it was, then? I heard a noise in here, like something falling." Sin@crystyll: "You /did/? Well, I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation. That's what we do in our big happy Starfleet family, right? Solve problems, unravel mysteries and drink tea!" Sin@crystyll ponders the situation. NPC@annpc#5570 chuckles, "I guess that's as accurate of a description as any." Sin@crystyll puts on a super serious thinking face, "Now let's see... this sound of yours, was it like a 'clang' or more of a 'thud'? Or maybe a 'ting'?" NPC@annpc#5570: "I'm not sure, actually...I think it was like multiple 'clangs' and 'tings.' I thought maybe some lab equipment fell over, but I'm pretty sure they don't keep that in astrometrics…” Sin@crystyll: "Oh yes, quite the conundrum indeed then!" she looks around, "I wonder... did it sound at all like this?" she kicks the console NPC@annpc#5570: "That could've been it. I was halfway down the hall, so I didn't hear it that well, but I'm fairly certain it came from in here." Sin@crystyll: "Hmm... we must be missing something else then. You did say clangs and tings after all!" she thinks again then jabs her finger in the air, "Aha! Maybe..." she flicks her combadge off and it bounces + Sin@crystyll: + off the console onto the floor, "How's that?" NPC@annpc#5570: "It was closer to that!" Sin@crystyll kneels, retrieving the combadge and fitting it back to her tunic, "Weeeell, there you go then! Obviously I must have dropped this silly little thing, then banged my head on the console when I went + Sin@crystyll: + to pick it up! That clearly explains why I was crouched behind it as well, see!" NPC@annpc#5570: "That's a reasonable explanation. You have an interesting way of explaining things, Miss..." NPC@annpc#5570 step closer into the room. Sin@crystyll: "Sin, Ensign Sin. And where would the fun be in just blurting out the answer, hm? We don't learn anything then do we and isn't that what we're out here for?" Sin@crystyll: "It's all good practice, see! You're welcome" she beams confidently NPC@annpc#5570: "That's a very good point," she smiles back and eyes Sin's ears, "I don't think I've ever met someone of your species before." NPC@annpc#5570: "Is this explaining by reasoning method common to all your people, or just something you like to do?" Sin@crystyll: "That's no surprise, we don't have the luxury of your fancy long lifespans so not many of us travel far from home. And..." she shrugs, "... I don't know really, probably just me. Has to be something + Sin@crystyll: + to make me special among my kind to have earned a place in the illustrious Starfleet, right!" NPC@annpc#5570: "How long do you normally live?" Sin@crystyll: "The average is about nine to ten years" NPC@annpc#5570: "That is short compared to us. I think Starfleet has special programs though, there's other species with lifespans closer to yours." NPC@annpc#5570: "So you probably didn't have to go four years in the Academy, right? Closer to what we listers do?" Sin@crystyll nods and smiles, "Yes, there you go see! Special programmes for special officers!" Sin@crystyll: "I guess... what exactly /do/ you do?" NPC@annpc#5570: "Well, for security specifically we're taught to defend ourselves, obviously, and to know all the rules and protocols and guidelines." Sin@crystyll: "Aah so you're security, that explains the curiousity" she smirks, "Good thing you're not a Caitain right!" NPC@annpc#5570 chuckles, "There are some very good Caitian security officers and MACOs. They can be very tough people." Sin@crystyll: "And rough too, like that damned doctor - you met him? Bedside manner of a Targ that one!" she scowls NPC@annpc#5570: "I'm familiar with him, though I can't say I've been treated by him. I think most Starfleet doctors are alright, though..." Sin@crystyll: "Yeah, no doubt..." suddenly smiles, "I mean, yeah! Why wouldn't they be!" NPC@annpc#5570: "So, what brings you to astrometrics? Let me guess, you're a pilot?" Sin@crystyll: "Um, yeah... yeah! Obviously..." she chuckles, "Got to keep on top of all those maps... and stuff!" NPC@annpc#5570: "Do you normally work at the helm, or with shuttles? I don't tend to visit the bridge or shuttlebays very often except when I'm assigned as a diplomatic escort or for the rare shuttle approach for - NPC@annpc#5570: - an away mission, so that's probably why I've never seen you around before." Sin@crystyll: "Yeah, I'm just a junior support officer. So I don't normally get to do much of that stuff, you know" Sin@crystyll: "Sometimes babysit the bridge on a night shift maybe" NPC@annpc#5570: "Shouldn't you be promoted faster than most too, given your species' lifespan? Or are you still young even for your people?" Sin@crystyll: "Young? Hardly!" she scoffs, "I turned two last month... /two/!" Sin@crystyll grumbles, "I'm practically middle aged..." NPC@annpc#5570: "Two...out of ten? That's still fairly young..." Sin@crystyll: "Yeah, well... maybe. Anyway as for promotions and stuff, I don't think our big happy family shows favouritism like that. Guess I have to earn it just like everyone else, lucky to be here with that + Sin@crystyll: + special programme and all, right!" NPC@annpc#5570: "Guess so. Exploration ships like this is the best place for officers to further their career." Sin@crystyll: "Oh sure, yeah! That's why I'm here. I mean, why else would I be here? Chances are I really will be middle aged by the time we get home after all!" she laughs NPC@annpc#5570: "That should warrant a promotion at least up to Lieutenant, if not Lieutenant Commander!" NPC@annpc#5570 laughs as well. Sin@crystyll chuckles, "Yeah, just got to do a bang up job on those babysitting nightshifts and I'll be there in no time!" she gives a hearty arm swing to boot Sin@crystyll: "Anyways, I should um..." she nods towards the door NPC@annpc#5570 nods, "Don't let me keep you. Try not to hit your head on anything else, though!" Sin@crystyll chuckles, "Sure thing, and enjoy your, um... security-ing!" Sin@crystyll scurries out with a quickening pace as she turns the corner NPC@annpc#5570 | As Sin scurries away, she tumbles right into Essex who emerges from a jefferies tube and tries to cross the hall! Sin@crystyll yelps as she faceplants, spinning around with an instinctive snarl and all tensed up ready to pounce her attacker NPC@annpc#5570 | Essex: "Oh. Apologies. You were moving very fast." Sin@crystyll blinkblinks in surprise at the overly-pleasant demeanour, relaxing herself as she stands, "I wasn't the only one..." NPC@annpc#5570 | Essex: "The other officers say that too. I will try to be slower when crossing the halls." Sin@crystyll peers down the jeffries tube he emerged from, "You, uhh... must know your way around these things pretty well to cross them with such speed..." NPC@annpc#5570 | Essex: "I've been doing damage control on the Valley Forge for a while. And I'm good at climbing." He extends the six limbs not currently used to stand on to show Sin. Sin@crystyll: "Hmm... I was never much good at navigationg these rat runs. Maybe you could make up that apology by showing me how to find my way in these tubes?" she smiles all sweet like NPC@annpc#5570 | Essex: "Where do you want to go?" Sin@crystyll shrugs, "Nowhere particular. I just mean in general, like, how to navigate them effectively" NPC@annpc#5570 | Essex: "Well, there's no sense of direction down there, right? So you either need to have very good natural senses like me, know the ship very well, or use a tricorder to position yourself." NPC@annpc#5570 | Essex: "Otherwise, very easy to get lost." Sin@crystyll: "I bet" she smiles, "Thanks!" NPC@annpc#5570 | Essex: "I'll see you around then." He crosses the hall and disappears into another tube as quickly as he appeared. Sin@crystyll watches him scarper away and glances back to the hatch he came from, "And what better time for a little practice..." she mutters quietly, glancing around to make sure nobody her sees her slip in... Keliaya@anncarise FX | Sin hears talking as she proceeds through the Jefferies tubes... Sin@crystyll pauses and listens Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 1: "Your quarters at 0800 again, then?" Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 2: "Or right here..." Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 1: "Here? Anyone can walk in here! Or...crawl." Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 2: "No one ever comes here, and Essex is off-duty in five..." Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 1: "Are you sure?" Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 2 laughs, "No, of course not! This is still a public part of the ship, and I'm an officer!" Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 1 laughs as well, "You almost had me convinced there!" Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 2 continues laughing, "I know I did!" Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 1: "Anyways, lets get those conduits checked out and we'll- " Keliaya@anncarise | Sin suddenly finds herself almost face-to-face with Katie. Keliaya@anncarise | Katie: "Wha- ouch!" She jumps at seeing Sin and hits herself on the side of the tube. Keliaya@anncarise | Voice 2: "What's going on up there, Chief?" Sin@crystyll pokes her head out a moment later, waving, "You should be careful around these tubes you know, never know what's going to pop out of one!" Sin@crystyll climbs out, helping her up Keliaya@anncarise | Katie takes her hand and they emerge above the secondary core. Keliaya@anncarise climbs out not far behind them. Keliaya@anncarise | Katie: "See, I told you anyone could run into us in there!" Keliaya@anncarise | She glances to Sin, blushing, "Did...you hear any of that?" Sin@crystyll smiles innocently, "Any of what?" she smiles innocently, "I just heard voices, then you suddenly appeared. I was still trying to figure out which way they were coming from. You know, echoes and all" Keliaya@anncarise grins, "She could always join us if she did..." Keliaya@anncarise | Katie blushes redder, "Hey!" Sin@crystyll smirks a little, "Hey, nothing to be shy about. Not for me, but nice to see a little life around here outside of all the pomp and circumstance" Sin@crystyll: "I should, just... leave you two alone to. Um, continue... working..." she tries to back away a little Keliaya@anncarise | Katie: "We were working! We just got a little..." Keliaya@anncarise: "Distracted." Keliaya@anncarise chuckles, "Is there anything I could help you with? Don't normally see red stripes in the tubes. Looking for anything specific?" Sin@crystyll: "All the more reason for me not to present further distraction" her attention snaps back to Kelly, "Hm? What, no no... no, I was lost is all. Nothing to do with the navigational array or anything" Sin@crystyll: "See I ran into this crazy little, well... he kind of looked like a giant roach, very politely spoken" Keliaya@anncarise grins, "Eager to explore? I know a lot of officers fresh out of the Academy like you. Well, the Jefferies tubes aren't usually too eventful..." Sin@crystyll: "He bowled me over jumping out of one of these tubes and after we got talking, he gave me some tips on navigating them as I always kind of sucked at that see. So I went for a practice run, yeah!" Keliaya@anncarise laughs, "Oh you've met Essex! He has a habit of running into people that way." Keliaya@anncarise: "He's one of our best tube navigators and damage control personnel. Can get from one part of the ship to the other before you know it without ever using transporters or a lift." Sin@crystyll: "Apparently so... but yes, just trying to find my way around better. And clearly it didn't work, I meant to come out near the lounge on 11..." she frowns, "Knew I should have gone left..." Keliaya@anncarise | Katie chuckles, "I have the same experience when trying to navigate them without Kelly. I suggest just using the regular halls and lifts. And if it's an emergency, I could provide site-to-site, - Keliaya@anncarise: - but that's for very urgent emergencies." Keliaya@anncarise | Kelly smirks, "She's just saying that because she doesn't want you running into her in there." Sin@crystyll: "Oh emergencies, yes! That's why I wanted to get better at them, yeah... never know when you might have to rely on them to get around if the engines break and we lose power or something..." Sin@crystyll: "Oh, um... not to suggest anything is wrong with your engines of course, Commander. I'm sure they're the best in the fleet, tip top and all that" she smiles Keliaya@anncarise | Katie: "No I'm not! And we normally use them for moving security around when there's an issue or medical transportation." Keliaya@anncarise smiles back, "Every ship needs maintenance and repairs. Though we normally just use the tubes for those, rather than transporters." Keliaya@anncarise: "Anyways, you're above secondary engineering now. Chief Oliver does have a good point, it might be easier to get to the lounge through the halls and lifts." Sin@crystyll: "Yes, right. And you two have *ahem* work to do..." she backs away a little more, "Well enjoy and uh, thanks and all" Keliaya@anncarise chuckles, "See you around, Ensign!" Sin@crystyll: "Commander. Chief" she nods to the pair and backs away a little more before scurrying off again Sin@crystyll stands impatiently fidgeting as she waits for the turbolift to arrive after departing engineering Trenick@annpc#5570 steps up to the lift as well, waiting for a second before glancing at Sin. Trenick@annpc#5570 examines her curiously for a moment. Sin@crystyll grumbles to herself, jabbing the call button a couple more times before pausing and slowly turning to face Trenick, "Something wrong Lieutenant?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "No, but I do believe you're Ocampa, aren't you?" Sin@crystyll: "I am" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I don't recall any Ocampa on the crew. Though seeing as we have a Kobali and an Overlooker, I probably shouldn't be surprised." Sin@crystyll: "I was assigned here shortly before we left on this mission" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I suspected so as well. But you were born in the Delta Quadrant, I assume?" Sin@crystyll narrows her eyes a little, "Yes... what does that have to do with it?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I'm just curious how you ended up with Starfleet. Did you join when we first began our expeditions through the Dyson Spheres there?" Sin@crystyll: "Oh, right. Yeah, sure that sounds about right. Not that long back, fresh out of that special fast track programme for short lived species and all" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Ah yes, of course. You seem fairly young. I would say no more than three or four." Sin@crystyll huffs, a little offended at being taken for one so old, "I'm two..." she looks back to the lift door expectantly Trenick@annpc#5570: "Oh, my apologies. Even a xenobiologist sometimes has difficulty discerning the age of other species by eyes alone. I have never met many Ocampa either, only a few during the expedition." Sin@crystyll: "An honest mistake I guess" she turns briefly to him, looking back as the lift doors open to reveal a lone T'Pia Sin@crystyll TP | smiles and waves to the pair, "Hi! Going my way?" she giggles Trenick@annpc#5570 smiles and gives T'Pia a nod, "Ah, hello T'Pia. And which way might that be?" Sin@crystyll eyerolls at the cheeriness as she steps inside, "Deck 11, Section 3" Trenick@annpc#5570: "That is indeed my direction as well," he steps inside. Sin@crystyll | TP: "Anywhere really... I'm just kind of exploring!" Sin@crystyll: "Marvellous..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "It's quite a sizable ship. I'm surprised myself at how I still occasionally wander into corners I'm unfamiliar with." Sin@crystyll: "Tell me about it... just be careful where you wander, that Essex fellow has a habit of bowling people over" Sin@crystyll | TP giggles, "He sure does! Oh he doesn't mean to though, he's just being super efficient!" Sin@crystyll grumbles, rubbing her elbow, still sore from her earlier tumble Trenick@annpc#5570 chuckles, "It is good advice to keep an eye out when around Jefferies tube openings, though." Sin@crystyll: "Not just the openings. Can find all sorts going on within their depths, apparently..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Really? My duties don't take me in there." Sin@crystyll: "Oh mine neither. Nope, no reason to go anywhere near them. Just what I've heard, yeah" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Rumours and stories do spread on a ship sometimes." Sin@crystyll FX | As the trio barrel along the turbolift network, the ship suddenly shakes violently. More than a weapons impact, like it just suddenly hit a wall while travelling at warp Trenick@annpc#5570: "What was that?" Sin@crystyll FX | the turbolift safeties kick in and it suddenly locks solid within the shaft as the power flickers out and leaves them bathed in the dim pulsing red emergency lighting Sin@crystyll curses as she's thrown against the wall behind her and struggles back to her feet Sin@crystyll | TP cries out as she is also offbalanced and hits her head hard on the computer panel which shatters from the impact Trenick@annpc#5570 braces against the lift wall, being knocked against it slightly but not dramatically so. Trenick@annpc#5570 rushes over to T'Pia as soon as he regains his footing. Sin@crystyll: "I have no idea" she kneels as well to check on TP Trenick@annpc#5570 takes his tricorder and runs a scan. Sin@crystyll | TP groans and holds the side of her head. Green blood trickles from the side of her head Sin@crystyll | TP: "I'm fine, it jus- ow..." she frowns as the pain washes over her, making her dizzy as she tried to stand but fails and slumps before even leaving the ground Trenick@annpc#5570: "You have a minor concussion. You'll be fine, just stay calm and stationary." Sin@crystyll | TP fearfully shakes and grabs Sin's hand for comfort, nodding her understanding. Then frowning with regret for the nodding Trenick@annpc#5570: "Try to rest and don't move too much. We'll get you to a more comfortable sickbay bed as soon as we start moving again." Sin@crystyll seems to grow more uncomfortable herself after looking at the hand grabbing her own Trenick@annpc#5570 looks from TP to Sin, "Are you alright?" Sin@crystyll: "Yeah, you'll be fine. Why that's hardly a scratch, see" turns to Trenick, "I've survived far worse, just focus on her" Trenick@annpc#5570: "There's not much I can do for her in a turbolift, unfortunately, but it's nothing major. A little disorientated and painful at the moment, but it will pass in time even without treatment." Sin@crystyll stands and looks around, "Fortunate then as time seems to be something we have in abundance" Trenick@annpc#5570 nods, remaining beside TP as he taps his combadge, "Trenick to Chief Tyr." Sin@crystyll | <C-Crystyl> "Tyr here" her voice is raised through a cacophony of noise Trenick@annpc#5570: <C> "What's the situation at the moment?" Sin@crystyll | <C-Crystyl> "Unclear. We dropped out of warp. Power is out and auxiliaries aren't- HEY, No! DC teams 3, 4 & 7 are working through the saucer, now get up there! Sorry, L-T. I'm as blind as you + Sin@crystyll: + really right now" Trenick@annpc#5570: <C> "Understood. I'll let you get back to it." Sin@crystyll sighs wearily, looking to T'Pia after sensing something from her. She kneels again and takes TP's hand Trenick@annpc#5570 looks back to TP, "We'll just have to wait, I'm afraid." Sin@crystyll: "Don't worry. Worst case; our KDF escort will be along any time and they'll be able to assist us I'm sure" Sin@crystyll | TP shakes her head delicately, "No... Not coming..." Sin@crystyll frowns, "What? What do you mean not coming?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I'm sure we can handle it ourselves. We've made it through worse." Sin@crystyll | TP looks to Sin, "QanwI'. Not long left, mum said..." she smiles, "...excited about exchange program..." her eyes half close lazily Sin@crystyll squeezes her hand, "Hey, no! No don't you go falling asleep on me, that's not allowed you hear?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Ah yes, there was something about officers on exchange, wasn't there?" Sin@crystyll: "And that's gone already? Dammit!" Sin@crystyll | TP groans, her head drifting lazily to one side Sin@crystyll frowns, lightly patting TP's cheek, "Hey! Now what did I say? No sleeping, I'm sorry but you can't now" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I think she should be fine. Her injury isn't life-threatening..." Sin@crystyll | TP groans again, lifting her head and smiling at Sin Sin@crystyll: "No it's not, but I've seen concussions like this before and if she drifts off it could become more severe. We will have to keep her focused and awake" Trenick@annpc#5570 nods, "In lieu of proper medical equipment, I suppose that will have to do." Trenick@annpc#5570: "So, what was this you were saying about the exchange program? Are they unable to assist due to it?" Sin@crystyll TP | nods, "They left already" Sin@crystyll stands looking around again, "If they're not coming... we have to do something!" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I'm sure the rest of the crew will have everything in hand." Sin@crystyll: "It sounded like organized chaos without the organization over that comm" Sin@crystyll | TP chuckles a little Sin@crystyll tries to pry the door open in the vain hope of seeing they are within reach of a doorway in the shaft Trenick@annpc#5570: "The Captain has led us through a lot. We'll be fine, and there's not much we can do from inside this lift anyways." Trenick@annpc#5570 looks to Sin, "I would not advise trying to exit, in case we suddenly get underway again..." Sin@crystyll: "That's... ungh... why I don't plan on staying... here..." Sin@crystyll ignores him but soon grunts in exasperation as she gives up on the impossible task and slumps back beside T'Pia Sin@crystyll sits down. Trenick@annpc#5570: "I appreciate the desire to help, but you are just one Ensign. We'll make it through this, and you'll have plenty of opportunities ahead to prove yourself." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Not all of us partakes in every mission, and that's normal. Some of the enlisted such as lab assistants don't ever really get involved in a crisis." Sin@crystyll: "Help?! I mean... yeah, maybe I am just an Ensign. But what if I can help, surely it's my duty to try and all that right?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Of course, but you can't while being trapped in this lift. And I'm sure there are other officers with the same qualifications as you." Sin@crystyll glances at TP and pokes her to stop her drifting off, causing a ticklish giggle which forces a smile to Sin's face briefly too Sin@crystyll: "Yeah, of course..." she sighs defeatedly Trenick@annpc#5570 chuckles slightly at TP as well. Sin@crystyll looks off to the side, "Stupid wrong turn..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "I know being patient is likely not something that comes naturally to a species like yours, but there are times where you can't do much more than wait." Trenick@annpc#5570: "And even if you had made it to the lounge, there's no guarantee you'd be able to help." Trenick@annpc#5570: "If all the lifts are experiencing this, you'll likely just be trapped on Deck 11." Sin@crystyll | TP reaches up and holds Sin's cheek, "You're pretty" Sin@crystyll glances back, "...and you're delirious" Sin@crystyll: "Yes, but at least..." she sighs again, "Nevermind, you're right. We're stuck here and it's all pointless anyway. So I guess we just... wait" Trenick@annpc#5570 nods, "Precisely." Sin@crystyll | TP: "Tell me a story" Sin@crystyll: "I don't know any..." Sin@crystyll | TP: "You must do! Everyone knows stories..." Sin@crystyll: "You tell one then!" Sin@crystyll: "No. Don't even try, that was a joke..." Sin@crystyll | TP smiles, "What were you two talking about when you came in the lift?" Sin@crystyll looks from TP to Trenick, "Oh yeah, the Lieutenant was just saying about some expedition I think. That sounds like a story for you" Trenick@annpc#5570 chuckles, "Three years' worth of stories, to be exact." Sin@crystyll: "Well there you go! That should keep the girl occupied" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I was on one of the ships which entered the Delta Quadrant using the Iconian gateways. It was a long-term exploration initiative, much like what the Valley Forge is doing now." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Some of the species we encountered we were already familiar with from the USS Voyager's time in the area, but we discovered many new things as well. The galaxy is a large place, after all." Sin@crystyll | TP: "Were you talking about that because you're Ocampa? That's right... right?" Trenick@annpc#5570 nods, "That's what prompted me to mention it." Sin@crystyll | TP: "Finally, someone on board close to my own age" she smiles Sin@crystyll gives her a funny look Sin@crystyll turns questioningly back to Trenick as TP's focus drifts, "She might be worse than we thought..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Oh that's not her being delirious. Perhaps that would make for an interesting story..." Sin@crystyll: "Oh?" Sin@crystyll | TP giggles, poking Sin back, "I bet I'm even younger than you!" Trenick@annpc#5570 looks to TP, "It's your story to tell, but I can give the short version if you don't feel up to it." Sin@crystyll | TP nods, "Please" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Well, the Captain made first contact with a species who didn't give birth to live young, which led to a misunderstanding that ultimately led them to accelerating T'Pia's growth to extract her." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Unfortunately, the accelerated growth continued after her birth, until the species responsible for it managed to work out a procedure to undo it with Starfleet." Trenick@annpc#5570: "As a result, T'Pia's biological stage is more advanced than her actual age." Sin@crystyll perks a brow, looking to T'Pia, "So you aren't as old as you look? How old are you exactly...?" Sin@crystyll | TP smiles proudly, "18 months!" Trenick@annpc#5570 looks to Sin, "That is indeed younger than you..." Sin@crystyll goes wide eyed staring at her, "You... you're actually /younger/ than me..." Sin@crystyll | TP nods proudly Trenick@annpc#5570: "Perhaps the only one on the ship. But she is right, you two are quite close in age." Sin@crystyll slumps back a little as she processes that, failing to notice that TP snuggles against her more in the process Trenick@annpc#5570 nods to TP's direction, "You may wish to wake her more." Sin@crystyll looks down, realizing she now has a TP snuggled against her side, "Hey, hey! Come on now, stay with us you" she pats her cheek again Sin@crystyll | TP lifts her head some with a groan Trenick@annpc#5570: "See, you are being helpful even in the turbolift. I'm sure the Captain will appreciate knowing someone is here to take care of her daughter." Sin@crystyll FX | Lights flicker and the walls hum to life as power returns to the ship Sin@crystyll looks around and squeezes TP, "There you go see, the lieutenant was right; they got it fixed" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Ah. Excellent." Sin@crystyll still seems a whole lot more composed and mellow after learning about TP Trenick@annpc#5570 stands and instructs the lift to take them to sickbay instead. Sin@crystyll remains seated with an arm around TP, ready to help her up once they arrive Trenick@annpc#5570 steps over to help TP as well. Sin@crystyll sits beside a resting T'Pia in sickbay. The bay is unusually active, tending similar minor injuries Keliaya@anncarise steps into the sickbay, looking around first to get a measure of those injured before spotting T'Pia and Sin and stepping over. Sin@crystyll looks up at the approach, "Hello again" Keliaya@anncarise: "Hey. Did you get hurt too?" Sin@crystyll shakes her head, "No, I was in the turbolift with her when she took a nasty blow to the head. She wanted me to stay with her and, well... I guess there was nothing else of use for me to do at that + Sin@crystyll: point so... yeah, here I am. You and your friend ok?" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "We were knocked around some in the tubes, but fortunately due to the enclosed spaces there wasn't a big distance for us to go, in that particular section at least." Keliaya@anncarise looks to T'Pia, "Will she be alright?" Sin@crystyll looks down with unusually high empathy and smiles, "She will, she's a real fighter" Keliaya@anncarise smiles back, "That she is! I'm sure the Captain will be happy to hear about you helping her daughter too." Sin@crystyll: "Yeah... no doubt" she shifts a little uncomfortably with that Sin@crystyll FX | As if on cue, Keelah and Kazra appear from the office, just in time for that Vulcan hearing to do it's thing Keliaya@anncarise: "Don't like getting attention?" Keliaya@anncarise glances back and notices Keelah, "Seems it might be a bit late for that..." Sin@crystyll | Keelah smiles as she approaches, "The Captain certainly will be happy to hear about it" Sin@crystyll | Keelah rests a hand on Kelly's shoulder, "How are you and your team doing?" Keliaya@anncarise: "Busy, but well. There's a couple of personnel who took small knocks during the initial incident and an exploding console or two afterwards, but nothing serious." Sin@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Glad to hear it. We'll hold position to run a full systems diagnostic now we're maintaining a safe distance" Keliaya@anncarise: "I'll make sure everything is green before we get underway again." Sin@crystyll | Keelah smiles again and moves to Sin's side, "And I understand I have you to thank for my daughter's wellbeing, Ensign" Sin@crystyll shifts a little again and shrugs, "I didn't really do anything, Captain. Just... sat there with her" Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "You looked after her when she needed it. And I understand you worked hard to keep her conscious" Sin@crystyll: "Seemed like the thing to do, you know... anyway it didn't work, she still blacked out before we got her here" she glances to TP in the bed Sin@crystyll | Kazra: "Yes, but you kept her going and got her here. She'll be fine still, thanks to your efforts" Sin@crystyll | Kazra: "Though that raises a curious question... you said she asked you to stay with her here?" Sin@crystyll nods Sin@crystyll | Kazra: "But she was unconcsious..." Sin@crystyll: "Oh... no, she didn't /ask/. But it's what she wanted" Sin@crystyll | Kazra looks at her confused, "I don't understand..." Keliaya@anncarise: "I think she might have empathic or telepathic capabilities." Sin@crystyll | Keelah considers Sin before nodding slowly, "I think so. It is a known trait to the Ocampa" looking to Sin, "I'm guessing you're relatively young, on the cusp of adulthood?" Sin@crystyll frowns a little at the sudden focus on her, "I just turned two..." Keliaya@anncarise: "I'm not familiar with her species, but from my...expperience with telepaths, they can often still sense what's going on in your mind even when you're unconscious." Sin@crystyll | Kazra: "It is entirely possible then Ensign, that your own mental powers are beginning to develop and you felt an empathic connection with T'Pia" Sin@crystyll groans, looking away, "Well isn't that just peachy..." Sin@crystyll | Kazra: "When all this is settled, feel free to drop by and we'll get a better read on that for you if you like" Sin@crystyll grumbles incoherently, focusing on T'Pia rather than the conversation Sin@crystyll | Keelah hrms, "It's funny, you'd think I'd remember signing an Ocampa onto the crew given how seldom few there are in the fleet" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "I don't recall seeing her before either, but I can't say I know everyone in Tactical and Command." Sin@crystyll shifts again, "Oh, no it's... well you see, I mean... I was only assigned here just before you left on this mission and... um, it was a last minute change. Yeah! Someone else was meant to come but + Keliaya@anncarise: "I probably know most people around the ship, but there's still always a few new faces!" Sin@crystyll: + had to cancel at the last moment or something, so I got called up in their place" Sin@crystyll | Keelah considers Sin for a moment before smiling, "Of course, that would certainly explain it. Well thank you Ensign, for taking such care of my daughter. As for your... budding abilities, just + Sin@crystyll: + know we are here to help in any way you need" Sin@crystyll I, um... thanks, Captain Sin@crystyll | Kazra looks to Keelah, seeing Sin's discomfort she changes topic, "So do we know what happened yet?" Sin@crystyll | Keelah shakes her head in disbelief, "It's the most unusual comedy of errors. And if we hadn't seen so much damage and injury I might actually find it funny" Keliaya@anncarise: "My people are looking for causes while we do repairs, but getting everything up and running is our priority at the moment." Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "I do not believe you will find any one specific cause. From what we've ascertained so far; it began with a calibration error in the navigational computer" Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "Which happened to coincide with a level 5 diagnostic of the sensor arrays. One which seemingly found a fault and so reset the system to compensate" Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "All of which would normally not be so consequential, only this error meant that we were off course by a fraction of a degree" Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "Just enough to plunge us head on into an anomaly which disrupted our warp field. One which the sensor thought was more than half a lightyear away" Sin@crystyll | Kazra: "Wow..." Keliaya@anncarise: "That's...quite the series of coincidences." Sin@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Like I said; a comedy of errors" Keliaya@anncarise: "Even I don't have luck that bad. Usually." Sin@crystyll | Keelah chuckles, "It was indeed a series of unfortunate events. We will conduct a full review and see what we can do to ensure such things do not occur again, but I do not believe we will find any+ Sin@crystyll: + single root cause to resolve" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "We'll focus on getting everything restored, first, and keep a closer eye out for errors in the future." Keliaya@anncarise: "I don't expect crazy coincidences like this will happen that much more often, though..." Sin@crystyll | Keelah smiles, "There will be plenty of time for all of that. For now though, see to your people; friends and family. That's what is important right now" she comments stepping over to perch beside+ Sin@crystyll: + T'Pia on the bed, stroking her daughters hair and gazing down at her Keliaya@anncarise: "I think we all deserve a bit of rest after all that." Sin@crystyll stands, "And on that note, I should... leave. Leave you to it, I mean" she backs away before turning to leave Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "Ensign..." Sin@crystyll pauses midstep with a flash of panic, holding her cool as she turns, "Captain?" Sin@crystyll | Keelah stands and approaches her looking deadly serious. She stands before Sin a moment that seems to last eternally to Sin before smiling and hugging the Ocampa Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "Thank you again. You might not have been the first signed up here, but I am glad we have you. I see great things in your future and look forward to working with you more closely" Sin@crystyll: "I, um... yes, well. Thank you, Captain. I..." her gaze drifts to TP, "I... will be ready to sit with here again later" and promptly turns once more to scurry off Keliaya@anncarise: "Don't be a stranger, Ensign! And feel free to come to any of us if you ever need help with anything." Sin@crystyll pauses again midstep just short of the door, half glancing back to Kelly's comment and simply giving a shy nod before continuing out Sin@crystyll | Keelah chuckles as she watches, "Poor thing's had quite the day. Keep an eye on her, Kazra" Sin@crystyll | Kazra nods, "I'll do what I can Captain, but I can't force her into anything. It's up to her to ask for help. Give her time to absorb this change, I'm sure she'll come to us when she needs to" Keliaya@anncarise: "She seems a little bit on the shy side. I'll see what I can do to get her more comfortable." Sin@crystyll | Keelah: "Thank you Kelly. Shy or not, she's obviously got a good heart and an instinct to act on it; that will always get her noticed"

NARRATIVE:
Whilst traversing deep space in sector V-004, the Valley Forge suffered what can best be described as series of unfortunate events. Without warning, the ship was forced from warp as it's field suddenly collapsed. The failure triggered a cascade systems failure which left the ship without power for a short time. Once systems were restored and personnel were accounted for, we were able to investigate and determine the below;
The primary fault was a calibration error in the navigational computer which threw us off course by a fraction of a degree. Ordinarily this would have been detected and countered by a measurement discrepancy from the astrometrics sensors, however on this occasion they were offline after a level 5 diagnostic was triggered. The result of this combination was that our navigational systems told us we were in one location, when we were in fact approximately half a light year off. Whilst severe, this in itself did not cause the catastrophic systems failure and would have soon been identified and corrected. The final unfortunate circumstance was that the error appeared to be just enough that our altered course steered us directly into a subspace anomaly. The negative energy of the anomaly was the cause for our loss of the warp field.
Whilst extraordinary in their combination, these circumstances appear nothing more than unfortunate. I am pleased to log for the record that the crew performed admirably in the brief time of crisis on board. Minor injuries were reported from all decks and a number of secondary systems were damaged, but nothing which can not be repaired through regular maintenance.
RECOMMENDATION:
Although the likelihood of such a set of circumstances culminating again, this is nonetheless a lesson learned and as such; I have tasked each department with performing an independent assessment of their contributory systems and submit proposals for countermeasures to be implemented.
As a tertiary point of interest to arise from this event, my own daughter received a minor head injury and was tended to by Ensign Sin and Lieutenant Trenick. Ensign Sin has demonstrated a strong character in her caring for my daughter. But furthermore, the Ensign - a young Ocampan - showed early signs of developing mental abilities as is consistent with those of her species. I have requested that the medical staff work closely with her to ensure a stable development as her powers grow.
