MCPO Tyr has landed with a splash since joining the crew of the Valley Forge. Not a soul aboard has been able to escape the infectious enthusiasm of her 'mandatory fun' training exercises for the enlisted personnel.

Now that all the competing teams for her first 'stem to stern' race have completed their runs, it's time for all to gather in the mess hall and watch the results play out as a live race for the entertainment of all!

Crystyl17/03/2019 Transporter Chief CPO Katie Oliver is busy fussing over the transporter pad after receiving news that a diplomatic envoy will be arriving imminently Crystyl18/03/2019 Keelah strolls in, pausing just inside the door and quirking a brow at the sight, "Everything ok there Chief...?" she asks cautiously towards the operator currently on her hands and knees fiddling with one of the floor pads - Katie jumps a little and scrambles to her feet, "Oh! Sorry Captain-" she hastily tidies the pad back and dusts herself off while scurrying back over to the console, "Just making sure everything is tip-top for our visitors!" - Keelah smiles, relaxing her stance a little as she moves to the side of the operators console, "Chief, I already know you keep this the best maintained transporter facility in the fleet. You don't need to worry, you know" - Katie nods, focused on her screen, "It's kind of you to say ma'am, but if I lax on the details then I risk it not being the best. And nothing less will do for our dignitaries, not... that less would do for you or the senior staff or anything! I mean..." she groans a little - Keelah chuckles, "Relax Chief. They're not even due just yet anyway, I just wanted to be sure to arrive first" - Katie eases back from her console and turns to face the Captain, "Is more of the senior staff coming to form a welcoming committee?" - Keelah pauses, glancing to the door, "That... is a good question" she chuckles again, "Since this is a reunion with old friends rather than a true diplomatic reception, I opted to forego the usual formality and extend an open invitation for any and all to join if they wished it; I figure at least it will give some good positive exposure to those less experienced in such affairs" - Katie smiles, "See now, that's why I like working under your command, ma'am; always thinking of your people! But... what if nobody volunteers...?" her tone suggests a clear caution of being roped into something over her head - Keelah smirks a little, seemingly picking up on Katie's reaction, "Well then, it's a good job we're starting with a tour so there will be no escape!" Crystyl18/03/2019 Keelah turns with a smile, "Aah Kelly, come to catch up with Jojo too?" AnnCarise18/03/2019 Kelly nods, "Mhmm! Been a while since we've been at Legia." Crystyl18/03/2019 "Hmm... time to stock up on some of that fancy drink of theirs is it?" Keelah asks with a knowing smirk AnnCarise18/03/2019 Kelly smirks back, "One of the many benefits of coming here! But the technology they have is quite fascinating too, not to mention their rich culture and history." Crystyl18/03/2019 "They are a remarkable people, aren't they" Keelah smiles, "Anyway I'm glad you came, I feared that my more relaxed open invite had perhaps served as license for all not to come!" I wouldn't say I enjoy diplomacy, but you know I like most social activities." Not a refit project like Valley Forge?" Crystyl18/03/2019 "Mhmm!" She nods proudly, "They fell almost 6 months behind schedule due to problems integrating the new warp core. They used it to pull me back from my LoA and dragged me over there from Bajor with orsers to get it back on schedule. Suffice to say a little creative field engineering was all it needed" she chuckles "Even brought in a few innovations that helped define the block 2's like Gainsborough and the eventual new classes like Endeavour" AnnCarise18/03/2019 "Wow...can't say I've had an experience like that. I had a long posting on board the Radiant which only ended when the ship was lost, but the Radiant was an old ship. She was built before I was even born!" "I've only had experience with repairs, and working with refits after the fact. Both Radiant and Valley Forge have had some big refits." Kelly nods, "Especially in a time when we're used to transporters. There was a time when people did go most places using only shuttlecraft, but it sounds terribly inconvenient now." "Still, Sullivan's job is just as important!" Katie remarks. "There's always going to be places with signal issues, as we've seen from the Crystyl rescue." Watching as their two guests materialize *Ambassador K'Taum and J'Fojofae appear and look around happily, settling eyes on Keelah the ambassador steps forward offering a Vulcan llap salute, "Hello Captain, it has been far too long" Keelah chuckles, "You've been practising, Ambassador. It is good to see you again. Both of you" she turns a smile to Jojo Jojo steps forward, greeting Keelah with a friendly hug, "It is nice to be back among Starfleet uniforms again!" Keelah chuckles, "Well we will have plenty of time to catch up for dinner, for now though let me introduce my Chief Engineer; Keliaya. She will be treating you to that tour of the ship we never quite got to last time" AnnCarise23/03/2019 Kelly smiles, "I look forward to showing you around the ship!" Crystyl23/03/2019 K'Taum returns the smile, "As do I. This one" he poimts to Keelah, "Promised it a long time ago but then ran off before we had the chance" Keelah smiles politely, "Duty calls when it calls, Ambassador. K'Taum seems content to quietly observe while the girls talk AnnCarise23/03/2019 "Well, the Valley Forge is an older ship with her construction dating back to the Dominion War era, before I was born," Kelly explains. "She's recently undergone a major refit though and essentially upgraded to the capabilities of a modern starship." Crystyl23/03/2019 "I would imagine so with all you have going on! It certainly has the look and feel of a crisp new ship from those I have seen!" AnnCarise23/03/2019 "Indeed she does, from the outside and inside! Hard to tell she's been in service for so long. And the refits change Valley Forge from the base Sentinel class so much, it almost looks like the ship is a newly launched variation of the older class!" Crystyl23/03/2019 K'Taum chimes in, "To what end was such an extensive overhaul carried out? You mentioned the Dominion war, was the ship upgraded to be more of a war vessel?" AnnCarise23/03/2019 "Quite the opposite in fact. She was built in the heat of conflict and the original engineers kept combat in mind throughout. The refits have made the Valley Forge more like the exploration ships Starfleet is most known for." "Of course, we didn't downgrade any of our defensive capabilities, and some of the upgrades like increased maneuverability give quite an edge in a fight. But the purpose of the modifications weren't to make it more of a warship." Crystyl23/03/2019 K'Taum smiles at that, "I see, most interesting. Meet the representatives from Legia IX! I don’t recall, have you met an Olelian before?” Crystyl24/03/2019 Vrolmacht dips his head, "Ambassadors, it is an ho-... huh?" He looks down distractedly as the jefferies tube hatch beside him pops open and Essex comes tumbling out Essex looks around the small crowd briefly thinking in a slight panic, "Good day. Don't mind me, just a little maintenance run..." with that he slowly slips back the way he came, the hatch gently pulling shut behind him. Have your people talked with the Klingons yet, or just the Federation?” Crystyl24/03/2019 K'Taum nods, "We have spoken with representatives from many races since opening our borders to trade" AnnCarise24/03/2019 "Ahh, that's good. I heard a lot of people have misunderstandings when first meeting the Klingons. Vrolmacht's with Starfleet though, so he's nice!" "Anyways, would you be more interested in the ship, or her people?" Crystyl24/03/2019 K'Taum answers, "The ship" while at the exact same time, Jojo responds with, "The people!" The two doubletake at one another and burst out laughing AnnCarise24/03/2019 Kelly laughs as well, "I was trying to decide whether to take you to the mess hall first or the engineering section, both have people there and they're both parts of the ship of course! I suppose we can stop by the mess first, as it's closer, then take you down to main engineering." Ecosse09/03/2019 Its the early hours of ship time and Kiera is on her morning jog through the halls on her morning run. Nodding to people as she passes them in the hall. Crystyl11/03/2019 Miadrone comes hovering around the corner from behind Kiera, slowing to hold pace beside her as it chirps what is presumably a beepy good morning! Ecosse11/03/2019 Waves to Miadrone as she slows to a stop before she takes a deep breath before she swigs her water "Morning!" Crystyl11/03/2019 Mia ripples into view, "Good morning ladies! Enjoying a rigorous start to the day are we?" She chirps, ever upbeat Ecosse11/03/2019 "Aye, just a bit of one. Kassandra decided it would be good for us to start running before shifts. Aye, I did, we should be able to do these runs as just a warmup. What about you? Haven't seen you around this early before." Kiera would be slightly out of breath while she speaks Crystyl11/03/2019 "Oh well our schedule can be a little off compared to biological liforms, as we only need to recharge every 48 hours. He takes a look around and moves to a replicator to start ordering something ???_????23/03/2019 He does some fiddling for a while, perhaps syncing his replicator use data in since it's a new ship for him, he comes away with just a cup of coffee and a bowl of rice with an egg on top, looking at his choice he amusingly notes to himself, "Well, at least I'm only 3/4 of a stereotype today..." He moves to find a table but finds himself curiously looking at the floating drone near Mia, none of the people nearby being anyone he knows of course, but he seems curious about it... such things are rare in a mess hall after all. ???_????23/03/2019 sets his dish down but keeps the coffee mug with him as he wanders over to Mia and Kiera's table "Yo. "For us, it's a collision of old designs and new ideas. Our biggest issues are with our phasers and warp drive, but we can at least get a decent cruising speed." "Sadly, any time we get past Warp 8.7 performance drops, and we can forget about using transwarp. The drive crashes every time we try." Alistair Nimitz@natthaan: "Phasers are my speciality as well." Our targetting systems won't get past 80% effectiveness, and our power output drops if we have to engage all the arrays at once." Well, it's a been a few weeks of solid work since I arrived on the Valley Forge. But today it all came to fruition as we brought the crew together to enjoy the culmination of my 'stem to stern' race! It was great seeing so many come together at once, from the Captain down to the humblest of crewman! I think everyone really appreciated the goal of this activity too, and talking with Kelly afterwards I got a few ideas for even more to do in the future!

What a crazy result though today... everyone was so sure that Essex would nail it - myself included admittedly! - but I don't think anyone expected Jexala to pull a victory out of the hat. Ok so, if Essex hadn't have had that misfortune corridor cut and run right into Commander Vrolmacht he almost certainly would have won. But that's the fun of this one after all, completely unpredictable! Anyway, the official race results (so I don't forget!):

As an aside, it was also nice to see that our activity caught the interest of some other CO's from around the fleet. I have to admit; I love the thought that this little idea might catch on and spread - who knows, maybe one day we'll be pitching teams from different ships against each other! Not that I actually know what their overall impression was or anything, but from what I saw they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Captain Keelah certainly seemed to enjoy catching up with them from what I saw!

So the ideas we came up with to expand on for future activities:

• Treasure hunt: Mixed department teams working together to solve a series of clues that will lead them around the ship on a breadcrumb trail of sorts

• Drone challenge: teams are challenged to construct a drone to set guidelines then have them complete a series of challenges
