Stardate 94749.9

A prudent offer to convey a grieving officer to her mother's memorial service from Captain Se'Lai places the Valley Forge and her crew squarely in the midst of the delicate political affair between the fledgling Orion Space Navy and the New World's Colonial Fleet.
Whilst the focus of many remains firmly in the past, our intrepid crew can afford no such luxury as recent activity had piqued the interest of the Admiral herself; and she expects the Valley Forge to deliver results...
View Episode Act I - Prologue
Keelah@crystyll sits tapping away at her PADD
Keelah@crystyll looks up at the sound of footsteps and rises to attention, "Admiral"
Keelah@crystyll stands at attention.
Perim@bobisgod171 strolls in with a single PADD under her arm, and takes her seat. "Evening, Captain, at ease."
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll sets a PADD down at the table nodding first to Perim and then to Keelah, "Admiral, Captain."
Keelah@crystyll: "Admiral...s" she corrects as she slips back into her seat, sliding the PADD away to fold her hands in front of her
Perim@bobisgod171 sets her PADD face-down. The underling can take notes. "All right, thanks for coming. We're fairly long overdue for this conversation, but it seems it's not one that can be put off much longer."
Keelah@crystyll: "Of course. I will elobarate however I can"
Perim@bobisgod171: "I've been keeping up with the reports on the subject, so we don't need to get too deep into specifics, but I'd to hear your thoughts on the Branded Lady situation, as it stands currently."
Keelah@crystyll: "As it stands currently..." she smiels ever-so-slightly, "...I believe it may be a matter of some debate"
Perim@bobisgod171 motions with her hand, returning a faint smile, "All the more reason to hear -your- opinion in the debate, Captain."
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll looks towards Keelah, his hands hover over his PADD for any notes.
Keelah@crystyll: "Well - Admirals - as you are no doubt familiar already; our most recent interaction took the most unexpected turn in her transferring possession of the USS Brisbane to us"
Perim@bobisgod171 nods along
Keelah@crystyll: "An encouter in which she claimed to 'have no further need of their raiding front', was - I believe - the terminology used"
Perim@bobisgod171 comments almost idly, "That sounds less like someone asking for a truce than it does someone gloating that they've completed their plans and hoping we'll stop chasing them."
Keelah@crystyll: "Indeed, hence my own skepticism. However, having dealt with her previously I also can not discount that it is simply the reflection of a personality trait as well"
Perim@bobisgod171: "What trait is that?"
Keelah@crystyll: "A general sense of superiority and rightousness. From our previous dealings, I would surmise that she /believes/ that her cause and - by extension - her actions, are just"
Keelah@crystyll: "It was clear from our most recent interaction that she harbored no remorse for the damage done or the lives lost. It was more of a cold acknowledgement of fact"
Keelah@crystyll: "She did however, affirm my deduction - based on earlier findings regarding the recent transfer of ownership of a facility from her Colonial Fleet to the OSN; that her supposed move for a truce was +
Keelah@crystyll: + in fact guided more by this purported alliance between the two Orion factions"
Perim@bobisgod171 nods gravely, "Do we know what her goals are? You mentioned diplomatic relations in your report, though I admit to being a bit uncertain what faction she actually represents, at this point."
Keelah@crystyll: "Likewise, Admiral..." she taps briefly on her PADD, "From my report of stardate 94139.9, where the Valley Forge aided the SFI operation to seize one of their orbital facilities; distinct iconography+
Keelah@crystyll: was noted by the away team. This made reference to a 'Colonial Fleet' which we surmise to be her operational force"
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll rapidly taps at his PADD to pull up that AAR.
Keelah@crystyll: "The logical deduction from the name is that it represents at least one Orion colony, though no details have ever come to light"
Keelah@crystyll: (( https://www.theorderofmidnight.com/storybook/m/41760224/viewthread/31530803-star-trek-through-valley-s2/post/134458521#p134458521 ))
Keelah@crystyll: ((external reference sorry. easier for me to track and pull from the story index!))
Perim@bobisgod171 nods, "To be clear... I'm having trouble deciding on what level we should be dealing with this organization. They've given us very little reason, thus far, to consider them much more than
Perim@bobisgod171: organized criminals. The case could be made that if they're representing a colony of civilians, that we could deal with them as a legitimate power, but..."
Perim@bobisgod171 shrugs, "I suppose my instinct is to reject that case, and I'm just trying to suss out whether there might be more to this that I'm not grasping."
Keelah@crystyll: "I've been trying to do the same myself ever since we first encountered the threat, Admiral..."
Perim@bobisgod171 crosses her arms over her midsection and leans back.
Keelah@crystyll: "What I can say is that - whoever they are at their core - they are highly elusive and untrusting of the galactic powers in this sector"
Keelah@crystyll: "And as it stands; our only certain knowledge of them is indeed as a rogue element. Nothing more. However..."
Keelah@crystyll leans forward slightly, "If there were any lasting alliance rise between them and the OSN - whom I have found not only to be a legitimate growing power, but a highly willing and capably ally"
Keelah@crystyll: "- then the Branded Lady's force may come more into a realm of further interaction with us by proxy"
Perim@bobisgod171: "Affiliation with an established power does lend legitimacy, but not necessarily peaceful relations. Especially if the aggression or piracy continue."
Perim@bobisgod171 continues right along, "What would you recommend as Starfleet's next move?"
Keelah@crystyll nods, "And I believe that is the reason for our most recent encounter. She is all to aware of her status with Starfleet, but made clear that her forces would make no further moves against the
Keelah@crystyll: Federation or our allies. She even claimed that the fleet used for such piracy actions had been dissolved..." purses her lips, considering the question
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll: "Do you believe her that it has been dissolved?"
Keelah@crystyll: "I would recommend... nothing Admiral." turning to Konie, "As for believing her, Sir. Well, I /want/ to believe it. Though am personally biased against her from previous losses"
Perim@bobisgod171: "We're in a position to make a fairly far-reaching decision. How we consider their organization at this point is very likely to set the tone for all future interactions. Not only for our fleet, but
Perim@bobisgod171: for any future interactions with the Federation."
Keelah@crystyll nods, "Which is why I recommend not taking any immediate action. For all the questions and uncertainties arising from all of this still, there is one thing that is clear above all; and that is the +
Keelah@crystyll: state of flux which they are in. I do not believe it to be either wise or prudent to act without sufficient knowledge on which to do so. Or to cite an old proverb; sometimes the best course of action,
Keelah@crystyll: is inaction."
Keelah@crystyll: "A fair course of action would be one of preparedness for continued defense, should they go back on this armistice. However I believe standard patrols deployments are already sufficient protection
Keelah@crystyll: against the level of activity we saw from her forces, even at their peak"
Perim@bobisgod171 holds her tongue for a few seconds, then looks at Konie. "Thoughts?"
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll shakes his head slightly. "Having not personally interacted with the Branded Lady but based on reports as they've been submitted I wouldn't rely on any sort of ceasefire. Given that she has+
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll: pilfered starfleet ships - Which we're assuming is the case with the Brisbane and if I recall there was another vessel previously, it seems like a grasp to keep her out of our sights."
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll tilts his head slightly adding on after the fact. "Personally I'm of the belief that a call for a ceasefire doesn't absolve previous sins."
Perim@bobisgod171 rubs at her neck, "My bigger concern is the opposite. If she attacks us, her position is clear, and ours as a result. My question concerns a scenario in which one of her ships is encountered in
Perim@bobisgod171: any other capacity. If they're criminals, in our consideration, responsible for numerous attacks, then we are obligated to try to arrest them for past misdeeds, regardless of their actions at the time
Keelah@crystyll: "If I may ask, Admiral..."
Perim@bobisgod171: of the encounter. That will be the response of virtually any other Captain, especially one who hasn't dealt with them as the Valley Forge has." She holds up a finger, "Without guidance to the
Perim@bobisgod171: contrary, I think it's -us- that's more likely to break a cease-fire, than them."
Perim@bobisgod171: "When I speak of recommendations for Starfleet's response, I don't necessarily mean literal physical action, but, I do think a decision needs to be made. Else it'll come down to the split-second
Perim@bobisgod171: judgement of whatever CO happens to next make contact with them."
Keelah@crystyll turns a questioning look to Perim, if she may proceed with her query
Perim@bobisgod171 appears finished monologuing for now
Keelah@crystyll: "This is not the first time Starfleet has faced such a dilemma, nor by far on the most impacting scale. But I wonder - if the Admirals might indulge a moment - how was such a parameter determined when
Keelah@crystyll: peace was made with the Romulans, or the Klingons before them?"
Perim@bobisgod171 shakes her head, "Neither were considered criminals. They were hostile foreign powers. They held territory claimed borders, and were interacted with through diplomatic channels. That parameter was
Perim@bobisgod171: never needed. When peace was made, it was made with a treaty that defined relations. That's the missing factor that makes this case so difficult."
Keelah@crystyll: "But in terms of your hypothetical scenario - of a ship on ship encounter - even if one was disconnected from said events, there was one clear factor present. Identification"
Perim@bobisgod171: "Mhm, another clear indication that the ship you're dealing with is part of a legitimate distinct power, rather than a random criminal element."
Keelah@crystyll: "That is as much the problem as it is the resolution, I believe" she smiles slightly
Perim@bobisgod171 tilts her head, and motions for more.
Keelah@crystyll: "If one clear pattern has emerged through our historical dealings here; it is that this 'Colonial Fleet' maintains a clear degree of seperation. The Branded Lady even spoke indirectly of this distinct
Keelah@crystyll: raiding fleet. From what we have seen, they have continued to show due diligence in this regard; only ever utilizing freelance pirates for illegal activity"
Perim@bobisgod171: "Have we had any encounter at all with this Colonial Fleet?"
Keelah@crystyll: "She also confirmed this further by her description of the Brisbane's use since it was salvaged by her forces, keeping it in a defensive patrol to their colony in order to avoid attracting attention"
Keelah@crystyll pauses, "Yes and no... we have dealt with their 'raiding fleet' who are always the aggressors, but never any core fleet of clearly identified Colonial Fleet ships"
Keelah@crystyll: "So to turn this back to your scenario, Admiral; any vessel encountered which is recognized as a wanted criminal by the Federation would be duly dealt with. With no recourse regarding the Branded
Keelah@crystyll: Lady's armistice. Since their detachment from such activity through third party means clearly indicates a desire to be able to... 'cut them off', should the need arise"
Perim@bobisgod171 sets her hands on the table, and drums her fingers a bit, "I don't suppose we have any leads on the location of this supposed colony, or any way to contact anyone affiliated with this group
Perim@bobisgod171: -other- than the Branded Lady, hm?"
Keelah@crystyll shakes her head, "I am unaware of any such means. The closest I know of would be the OSN leadership"
Perim@bobisgod171 nods in response, "Perhaps it's worth reaching out to them, given recent developments. If this group is truly interested in peace, the safest course would be to resolve all of this at a
Perim@bobisgod171: negotiating table, without all this cloak and dagger."
Keelah@crystyll: "Unfortunately, from what little we've been able to surmise thus far; the OSN themselves may be unable to shed much light while the whole situation is fluid. I do however agree that it is the most
Keelah@crystyll: logical course of action and - though I make no claims to being a diplomat - I stand ready to assist in whatever capacity is desired. I have at least harbored a strong relationship with some of said
Keelah@crystyll: leadership"
Perim@bobisgod171 smiles, almost viciously, "You're a Starfleet Captain. You're a diplomat by definition. Unless there are any other suggestions, let's pursue that, then. Make an inquiry, show that we're interested
Perim@bobisgod171: in talking. Even if the OSN isn't able to provide a contact, directly, it's not impossible that word of our intentions will find the right ears, regardless." She pauses, and speaks mostly
Perim@bobisgod171: to Konie, next, "In the meantime, fleet policy will be as discussed a moment ago. Encounters with known criminal elements will be handled as usual. Ships who identify specifically as belonging to this
Perim@bobisgod171: Colonial Fleet, who aren't otherwise known outlaws, should be contacted diplomatically."
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll nods once and taps at his PADD. "Noted."
Perim@bobisgod171 offers the table a smile, "Anything else to add?"
Keelah@crystyll shakes her head, "I believe all aspects have been sufficiently covered"
Konieczko@DoABarrelRoll: "I have nothing to add."
Perim@bobisgod171 nods, "All right. Thank you for coming, Captain, and for your insights. I trust you'll let us know how things go with the OSN."
Keelah@crystyll: "I will keep you apprised as soon as I have any developments"
Perim@bobisgod171: "Very good. Dismissed, then." She nods.
Keelah@crystyll stands rigid, snapping a sharp salute to the pair before departing
View Episode Act II - The Memorial
Egzo@HF_Mudd looks around the transporter room with a squint as it forms around him. Sadia@gulremal: *squints at the bright lights and surveys the area* Istar@anncarise FX | An Orion female with a paudronless OSN uniform awaits them just beyond the transporter pad, with many similarly clad individuals working away at consoles. Istar@anncarise | Orion: "Captain Sadia Cynis?" Sadia@gulremal: *nods to Orion female* I'm captain Cynis, KDF task force Hurq Mevik. Sadia@gulremal: This is captain Egzo, my second in command *nods towards Egzo* Istar@anncarise | The Orion smiles, "It's an honour to meet you, Captain. I'm Morl Lyda. I've heard many great things about you." Egzo@HF_Mudd returns the nod. Sadia@gulremal: The honor is mine, Morl. We arrived to pay respects to late Tabadi Mysti. Istar@anncarise | Lyda: "This way. The introductory addresses is just about to begin." Egzo@HF_Mudd does actually look mournful for a moment, as the Boss mentions that name. Istar@anncarise | Lyda turns and leads the group further into the facility. Lennie@crystyll speaks to Tabadi Delandria. Istar@anncarise FX | The two Sentinel guards examine the KDF visitors as they pass through. Sadia@gulremal: *is a bit grumpy but alert, eyeing the corners and anything that looks remotely suspicious* Istar@anncarise | Lyda points to a section of empty seats near the front of the chamber, "There's some free spots you can take in that section." Sadia@gulremal: *nods* Thank you. Egzo@HF_Mudd follows Sadia, playing bodyguard though the Boss is quite capable of taking care of herself. Sadia@gulremal: Anything I should know about the entire proceedings in advance? Istar@anncarise FX | Sadia would notice a clone model she might recognize from her experiences with the Branded Lady's Colonial Fleet, standing alongside a male wearing the same uniform. Istar@anncarise | They stand apart from the OSN members, but in full view of guards and OSN officers who don't seem to mind their presence. Lennie@crystyll FX | Senior staff from the Valley Forge are also noticeable along the upper balcony Lennie@crystyll stands somberly talking with Delandria Istar@anncarise | Lyda: "Well the proceedings will be carried out per High Orion custom when an individual of significant has been deceased." Istar@anncarise | Lyda: "That means there will be a few addresses by other important figures connected to the Tabadi as well as her family if they so wish." Istar@anncarise | Lyda: "Following that will be the usual celebration of her life, with dancing, food and the opportunity to share more personal memories of the deceased with their other friends." Sadia@gulremal: *eyes the Gorn ambassador* Is Tabadi's daughter present? Istar@anncarise | Lyda: "Yes, she is..." Istar@anncarise | Lyda looks around the chamber for a moment before pointing her out to Sadia. Istar@anncarise | Meanwhile, the Gorn Ambassador notices Sadia and offers a curt nod. Sadia@gulremal: *returns the nod and turns to Morl* Thank you. Lennie@crystyll: "I must thank you again for this honour, Delandria. To see so many gathered in my mother's memory is..." Sadia@gulremal: *gives a curt nod to Tabadi's as she passes them by* Lennie@crystyll | Delandria smiles curtly, "I know child. Despite what you or she may have thought in the past; she was one of our own still" Istar@anncarise FX | The Tabadis Sadia passes by return the nod. Lennie@crystyll: "And this manner in which you've embraced me. I'm not sure how I feel about this still" she tugs awkwardly at the cape Sadia@gulremal sits in a chair. Istar@anncarise | Lyda looks to Egzo: "Is there anything you need?" Lennie@crystyll | Delandria's smile grows slightly, "Your mother wore that very cape at the most honoured of occassions. It is only right; as it is to see her blade on your hip" Lennie@crystyll: "And this..." she pokes at the tiara Sadia@gulremal: *she takes a seat and acts as she isn't eavesdropping on the conversation...no sireee* Lennie@crystyll | Delandria raises a hand to Lennie, "You may not have been raised by your kin, but I know you understand your heritage perfectly well young one" Lennie@crystyll | Delandria: "Mysti was Tabadi. Even before the OSN's rise that meant something. It recognizes that most treasured trait in our blood, which is why - as her daughter - you carry that symbol now" Lennie@crystyll: "But I am no Tabadi, I am a Starfleet officer. Even with this... honorary uniform... that doesn't change" Istar@anncarise | Morl Lyda goes to greet more guests. Egzo@HF_Mudd sits in a Lounge chair. Lennie@crystyll | Delandria: "Who says it has to? There is nothing to prevent you still from carrying your mothers symbol, as is your birthright" Sadia@gulremal: *looks around and leans a bit to Egzo* Quite the gathering. Egzo@HF_Mudd grunts and mutters some reply. Lennie@crystyll: "I know, it's just..." she sighs, "...I guess I just figured that it would be passed to her successor or something. I mean, someone still has to command the Thana Vaneri..." Lennie@crystyll | Delandria, "And someone surely will. But come, now is not the time for such thoughts. Please, sit with me; honoured daughter" Lennie@crystyll smiles faintly and sits beside Delandria as they continue Lennie@crystyll looks about the room as she sits, leaning to Delandria, "Still, I wasn't prepared for such a... diverse gathering..." Istar@anncarise FX | Tabadi Eisa shares a glance with Delandria before rising from her seat and walking to the central podium. Lennie@crystyll | Delandria's gaze follows Lennie's to the foreign dignitaries before settling on Eisa with a slight nod Istar@anncarise FX | Chatter in the room slowly fades as everyone watches one of the Tabadi's Circle's Elders step up to the stand. Egzo@HF_Mudd does sit up more or less straight as someone seems about to speak. Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "Orions of the Space Navy. Foreign friends and dignitaries. We are all aware of why we are here." Sadia@gulremal: *she focuses on the Elders* Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "One of the members of our Circle, our highest level of leadership, has recently passed away. She died fighting against our enemies and protecting her own, in a way that even the - Istar@anncarise - Klingons would deem honourable, that even the Federation would consider a noble sacrifice." Sadia@gulremal sits in a chair. Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "But it is not the manner of death that we have come here to remember today. It is the manner of life. That is our way." Lennie@crystyll seems intently focused on her feet, looking up some when Delandria places a hand on her shoulder Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "Tabadi Mysti has made many contributions, to not only our Navy, but the Orion people as a whole." star@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "I can list all of her accomplishments, but that will not do her credit. I must say I did not know her as well as I wished I did, but for the times that I have spent with Mysti - Istar@anncarise - I will say that she is indeed among one of the finest specimens of the Orion people." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "I must say that I was, regrettably, one of those who initially opposed the seating of a non-High Orion. But over the years I have come to understand that our goal should not be the- Istar@anncarise - elevation of a single Orion culture, but /all/ Orion culture. For that, I have Tabadi Mysti to thank. And now, I can think of no better person to fill a seat on the Circle." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "I will give the stage to Tabadi Delandria, who was much more personally acquainted with Mysti than I had the chance to be." Istar@anncarise | Eisa nods and heads back to her seat. Istar@anncarise FX | Delandria rises from her seat and takes the stage. Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "As you all know, the Tabadi's Circle does not have one set head. All Tabadis hold an equal vote." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "It is however, Eisa and I who held our positions the longest. Those of you who have been with us long enough will remember how we built up this fleet from the dreams of a few - Istar@anncarise - young High Orions who wished to see our beautiful civilization emerge from the shadow of the Syndicate." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "You will remember how we toiled to fight those who stood in our way, to prove wrong those who mocked us, to persuade those who thought we would fail." Lennie@crystyll notices a lot of nodding heads among the other Tabadi's Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "All that and more, Mysti has done." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "That was why I offered her a seat on the Circle. In many ways, she reminded me of myself in my younger days." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "We did not see eye to eye on every matter, no two people ever do. But in her I saw a successor. One who could continue to lead our efforts in bringing the Orion people - Istar@anncarise - to glory among the stars, rather than a name to be scrutinized and feared." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "Her passing is an unparalleled tragedy that even the attack on Narris pales in comparison to. But despite all odds, she managed to settle the bloody feud between our navy and - Istar@anncarise - the Colonial Fleet. She solidified our diplomatic ties with the Klingon Empire and the United Federation of Planets. Not to mention her efforts in freeing those of our people who are still - Istar@anncarise - oppressed, for which she may be most renowned." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "Though her time on the Circle was far too short, in that time, she has contributed as much as I ever had." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria: "And for that, the Orion people will remember her." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Delandria bows before speaking again, "The stage will now go to Lendaria, the only known direct family of Tabadi Mysti, if she has any words to say." Lennie@crystyll draws a deep breath as she stands, exchanging glances with Delandria as they pass Lennie@crystyll pauses at the podium and looks around nervously Lennie@crystyll: "Brothers and sisters, honoured Tabadi, friends and family from and wide..." Lennie@crystyll: "Ever since arriving here on Narris I have been overwhelmed with descriptions like those given by Delandria and Eisa; those of a great leader and a gift to her people" Lennie@crystyll pauses again, frowning slightly before tapping her combadge to disable her UT" Lennie@crystyll: "I had all kindsa fancy plans t'speak t y'all th'same. But instead, I wanna tells ya 'bout th'Mysti I knew" Lennie@crystyll: "Tha's my momma; a Tabadi long before anyone bestowed any fancy title n'uniform on her" Lennie@crystyll looks over to the Thana crew Sadia@gulremal: *manages a grin as she hears Lennie speak* Lennie@crystyll: "All her life she fought f'our people, but moreso; she looked after her girls" Lennie@crystyll: "As touchin' as it is t'see all you'se fancy dressed folks standin' here honorin' her memory like this..." Lennie@crystyll: "Wha's most impressive t'me is how 'o those sit here now who - like me - she helped free from Syndicate tyranny" Lennie@crystyll idly traces a finger across her tattooed cheek Lennie@crystyll: "For long as I known her - which as long as most of y'all here, I know - tha's her biggest passion in life, an' t'see y'all here now - /all/ of y'all..." Lennie@crystyll: "Tha'd be th'surest sign to her tha' it weren't all in vain..." Lennie@crystyll: "Now I'm-a tells y'all somethin' I ain't never told anyone yet..." Lennie@crystyll: "When my momma were lost, I stood before her in tha' transporter room an' got t'say goodbye proper" Lennie@crystyll: "An' in them final moments of her life, she tried t'tells me somethin'" Lennie@crystyll: "Lucky f'us both I'm-a good with language - shockin' t'strangers hear me speak, I know!" Lennie@crystyll: "So even though her voice were silenced, I got her message; an' it weren't nothin' vengeful or regretful" Lennie@crystyll: "Momma told me; 'Hold a strong heart and it will steer your true" Lennie@crystyll speaks up, "I give to y'all now this message she gave t'me! She believed in our future; don't be lettin' this - or anythin' else - stop y'all from strivin' for it" Lennie@crystyll: "'Cos if there were ever a sign to th'galaxy tha' th'Orion people are back on top..." Lennie@crystyll smiles, gesturing with both hands to the crowd, "...I gotta be lookin' right at it!" Lennie@crystyll: "And so now; I commends her memory to th'stars she danced through" Lennie@crystyll takes a small device from the podium before turning to face the window Istar@anncarise FX | Many Orions smile back at Lennie's sentiment. Lennie@crystyll: "Keep dancin' momma... keep dancin'..." Lennie@crystyll clicks the device and a large podium in the courtyard outside lights up with a roaring fire Lennie@crystyll: "Goddess'll watch over ya now" Lennie@crystyll bows her head a moment before turning back to the room Lennie@crystyll: "Now, unless anyone else's got any more fancy words; I'd-a like t'invite y'all t'join us in the celebration of my momma - proper" Lennie@crystyll gestures towards the main exit with that Egzo@HF_Mudd looks over at Sadia as she stands. Sadia@gulremal: *gets up, straightening her uniforms* I don't have fancy words, but I have to say somethin'. Lennie@crystyll looks over to Sadia with a nod and a smile Sadia@gulremal: *jumps up to the stage not bothring to go around, straightens up, looks at the gathering from left to right* Sadia@gulremal: If someone told me five years ago I'll be at a gathering like this, I would tell them they are full of it. Sadia@gulremal: I'm a low born - my dad was a failure of a smuggler, my mother was a computer hacker. Only part of orion culture I experienced was the one tied to the short end of a stick. Lennie@crystyll nods sympathetically to that familiar feeling Sadia@gulremal: Ending up as servant to the klingons looked like a blessing, and me and my mom had ro work our assess off become recognized. I had no good words of my people, and culture I learned through vids was - Sadia@gulremal: - as real and 22nd century re-runs of Battlecruiser Vengeance. Sadia@gulremal: During my servise in the KDF i met many orions - mercs, pirates, fallen nobility. None of them stuck around - they were like leaves in the wind. Sadia@gulremal: Not until Mysti arrived did my opinion of our people start to change. Mysti was an idealist and I was skeptical at first - I heard the chant so many times before - great ambitions and even grander - Sadia@gulremal: - plans. She'd be gone by the end of the year, I told myself. But she stayed around, she did her part and more. Sadia@gulremal: For the first time, I was genuinely impressed. She didn't just plan and dream, she acted and got results. I actually started to believe. Sadia@gulremal: So, it's damn shame she left us so soon. And you guys have a big pair of shoes to fill. You are on a good path. Sadia@gulremal: But don't get ahead of yourselves. You've made yourselves visible to the galaxy. But it's a pond that's getting smaller, and there's a lot of sharks. Sadia@gulremal: Play smart. Don't f*ck it up. You owe it to her. You owe it to all that believed in her, and that believe in you. Sadia@gulremal: *stops a bit, and makes a thinking face* Yeah, that would be it. Lennie@crystyll smiles and nods to the message Istar@anncarise | Eisa stands and takes to the stage again. Sadia@gulremal: *she unceremoniously walks back to her seat and nods to Lennie as she sits* Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "Is there anyone else who still wishes to make an address?" Lennie@crystyll | Chirrups beeps eagerly a moment, but quickly quietens down Istar@anncarise | Eisa cchuckles at Chirrups and continues on when no one else pops up, "Well, let's not stand around giving speeches like Federation presidents, then!" Egzo@HF_Mudd looks left, then right, and finally stands. Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "Ah, we do have someone else, it seems." Egzo@HF_Mudd strides to the podium, ignoring the looks and whispers at a Nausicaan taking the stage at a gathering like this. Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa steps down from the stage and hands the stage to Egzo. Sadia@gulremal: *grins at Egzo getting on stage, bit sad there are no popcorn in sight* Lennie@crystyll has no idea who this Nausicaan male is, but smiles approvingly at the approach Egzo@HF_Mudd opens with a simple "Hey," and winces at a squeal of feedback. He taps the mic, clears his throat, and continues. Egzo@HF_Mudd: "I ain't got a lotta words, but the ones I do, I wanna say 'em." Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Mysti... she was good with words. S'why I usually let her do the talkin'. She was good at a lotta things." Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Good in a fight, at commandin' a starship, at lookin' after her people. And I don't just mean her crew, I mean ALL a' her people. All 'a you. She wasn't out for herself, she had somethin'." Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Somethin' she believed in." Egzo@HF_Mudd: "I wasn't there when she got her ticket punched. Wish I had been. But what I hear is, she stayed t' make sure others got out safe. Part a' me thinks that's dumb, but th' other part knows, Egzo@HF_Mudd: that's just how she was." Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Me, I'm just a pirate. She... was a /captain/. And I'm gonna miss her. A lot." Egzo@HF_Mudd pauses, thinks. ".... s'all I got." Egzo@HF_Mudd steps back from the podium, and then down from the dais. Egzo@HF_Mudd marches back to his seat, head and back straight, and sits down again. Istar@anncarise | Eisa waits for a moment, and when no one else takes to the stage, she returns again. Egzo@HF_Mudd sits in a bridge officer chair. Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "For those of you unfamiliar with the High Orion way, we will now be proceeding to the celebration of Mysti's life. Not everything is fit to say for all to listen, and this will - Istar@anncarise - afford you an opportunity to share your memories of Tabadi Mysti with those you deem appropriate to share these particular details with." Sadia@gulremal: *nods to Egzo* You've been practicin' at the mirror? Egzo@HF_Mudd snorts at the notion, not looking over. Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "In addition of course, we will have the usual life weave dances. You may stay as long as you wish, and the memorial will go on as long as you stay." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa: "Food will be provided free of any charge, though usual rates will apply to orders outside of what is provided, including special drinks." Istar@anncarise | Tabadi Eisa motions to the exit, where many in the hall are now moving towards to continue to the second phase of the memorial. Lennie@crystyll stands and shares a few words and hugs with Delandria and the others before heading out herself Lennie@crystyll sits on the railing overlooking the ocean, nursing a glass of wine while the promenade beyond is bustling with activity from the memorial Istar@anncarise FX | On the promenade behind Lennie there are numerous gatherings of people, and deeper within the noise of classic Orion music can be heard. Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Gotta admit, this ain't like most gree -- er, Orion parties I been to." Egzo@HF_Mudd: "Everyone's wearin' a lot more clothes, for one thing." Istar@anncarise FX | A transporter beam forms behind Lennie... Sadia@gulremal: Yeah, it would se- *turns to transporter beam* Lennie@crystyll turns around at the sound Istar@anncarise materializes from the beam. Egzo@HF_Mudd follows Sadia's look toward the sound of the newcomer materializing. Lennie@crystyll: "Istar!" she gives her a welcoming hug before stepping back to look her over, "Almost didn't recognize ya!" Sadia@gulremal: *rises eyebrow* Istar@anncarise hugs Lennie back. "Well, this gear's just as tight as my old stuff," she chuckles. "But it's a lot more comfortable an' definitely covers a whole lot more!" Lennie@crystyll: "They'se been keepin' ya busy then!" Istar@anncarise: "Mhmm!" Istar@anncarise: "Real smooth to move in too, despite wha' you might have experienced in outfits like this." Istar@anncarise: "Watch!" Lennie@crystyll tilts her head curiously Istar@anncarise jumps forward, does a handstand, swings back onto her feet on top of the railing and somersaults right down. Sadia@gulremal: Impressive. Istar@anncarise reappears in a transporter beam in a three-point stance in front of Lennie. Egzo@HF_Mudd chuckles. Istar@anncarise rises back to her feet and walks up to Lennie, "So, how're ya holdin' up?" Lennie@crystyll smirks, "Indeed..." she looks over, "Hey, you'se the KDF Cap'n right? Mighty fine words from you'se guys back at th'memorial" Sadia@gulremal: I wouldn't say fine. But I hope they struck the chord. Istar@anncarise: "That was some good speeches. From you too, Lennie!" Lennie@crystyll gives Istar's hand a light squeeze in response Lennie@crystyll: "Much like yaself Cap'n, I figure they'se too easily spoilin' for a fight they can't win right now. Figured tha' last message from momma should strike a chord too" Istar@anncarise squeezes back and looks to Lennie, "Sorry I can't stick around. Somebody's gotta keep an eye out while the whole OSN is gathered in one place." Istar@anncarise: "Well...Le voluntold us. But I still got to hear everyoen speak!" Sadia@gulremal: *to Istar* Yeah, I hope at least one social gathering this year won't end up in shootout. Lennie@crystyll: "Couldn't be in better hands hun'. You'se have fun now" Istar@anncarise: "Not with us keepin' watch it won't!" Istar@anncarise looks to Lennie, "I'll catch up with ya when I'm off-shift." Sadia@gulremal: *to Lennie* I'm glad to see you're keepin' a cool head. You're made from stern stuff, just like your mother. Istar@anncarise taps her wrist-comp and disappears into a transporter beam again. Lennie@crystyll shakes her head, "Thanks but, I ain't her... I were raised by Humans so I spent most th'last week either cryin' or ragin'" she chuckles Sadia@gulremal: *nods* You be you. Don't let yourself be impressed by the gathering here. And definitely don't get involved in the game of thrones, if you can help it. Egzo@HF_Mudd nods emphatically to that, crossing his arms over his chest. Lennie@crystyll: "I already made tha' one clear to 'em. Much appeal as there may be in bein' wit' mah people now... I already got a uniform, an' I likes it" Lennie@crystyll: "Besides..." Lennie@crystyll points to her tiara, "This ol' things' purely symbolic now. Don't mean I inherit her duty or nothin', not like in th'old fesins" Sadia@gulremal: The outfit does suit you well, though. Lennie@crystyll smiles proudly, glancing down herself, "Mah ol' dancin' outfit. Still fits after all these years..." Sadia@gulremal: Ah yes, you were trained at a fesin? Lennie@crystyll nods, "Born 'n raised" Egzo@HF_Mudd squints. "But you just said, by humans..." Lennie@crystyll: "Yeah... momma never told ya tha' story I guess" Lennie@crystyll: "th'day our fesin folded after th'Syndicate cell wha' operated it crossed th'Feds" Sadia@gulremal: Well, you did end up in Starfleet. Lennie@crystyll nods, "I were in a pen at th'auction th'Feds stormed t'get their folks back. Momma was back at th'fesin lookin' after others" Lennie@crystyll: "Fed doctor pulled me from massacre an' took me in; had no idea momma or th'others were still alive after tha'. But they were... tha's when she took 'em an' fought back t'escape" Sadia@gulremal: I can bet living among humans is a completely different experience. Lennie@crystyll chuckles, "It were certainly different... 'specially when I came of age an', well... le's just say th'men on board our ship soon came t'realise it..." Egzo@HF_Mudd snorts. "Ohyeah. You musta been REAL 'popular'." Lennie@crystyll: "Yeah... but we soon worked things out. I still felt like I were livin' in heaven on a starship after only knowin' th'auction pens before" Sadia@gulremal: *mutters as her comm beeps* Sadia@gulremal: I apologize, but I must cut this meetings short, duty calls. Lennie@crystyll dips her head lightly, "'Course. I appreciate y'all bein' here today. Momma spoke a lot 'bout you'se guys, so I know it'd mean it all t'her too" Sadia@gulremal: *she takes out a datachip* Listen, your mother did good by me, and I owe her a ton. Sadia@gulremal: *hands her the datachip* This is my personal comm-link. If you need anything - ANYTHING - let me know. Lennie@crystyll tucks it away safely... somewhere in this outfit... "Thanks Cap'n. Likewise, I ain't got her command or nothin', but if I can ever be of help t'you'se guys, just lemme know" Sadia@gulremal: *nods* No problem. I'll do my best to stay in touch. Sadia@gulremal: Stay strong, and heed your mom's advice, Fiera Pach Verdas@trellain: walked up besides Egzo, as if she had always been there. Lennie@crystyll smiles and nods, "You too Cap'n" Egzo@HF_Mudd glances right at the new arrival. Sadia@gulremal: *nods to the two* Work's calling. I'll give you 30 minutes, after that we've got to head back to Zenas. Sadia@gulremal: *taps her wrist-comm* Cynis to Daramar, one to beam up. Egzo@HF_Mudd nods to the Boss. "I'll hit the buffet." Lennie@crystyll turns back to retrieve her drink and lean on the railing

Keelah@crystyll FX | Door chimes The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Captain Se'Lai," she says, having apparently already identified Keelah. "Come on in." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 is tapping on a computer that is notably not of Orion design. Keelah@crystyll: "So were you expecting me or do these side rooms simply come with hidden surveillance on the door?" she chuckles as she enters, finding her way to a seat The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Oh no, I can just see through them," she chuckles. "This is Narris. They didn't build their walls with infrared vision in mind, and Vulcan body temperature is pretty distinctive." Keelah@crystyll: "Very astute" she nods approvingly of the observation, "I would point out that I am not the only Vulcanoid in attendance today, though admittedly the only one likely to be seeking you out" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Exactly what I was thinking." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 closes her laptop-like device and looks properly to Keelah. Keelah@crystyll: "I must say..." she begins, easing back and crossing one leg over, holding a firm but relaxed posture, "...it is still rather surreal to be sitting across from you now after all which has transpired" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 nods, "I know what you mean. I bet you were expecting to talk to me through one of your brig force fields or something like that." Keelah@crystyll: "Quite the contrary; I had to convince my tactical officer that there was acceptable risk of finding myself behind such a field after coming here today" she smiles lightly The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 chuckles, "Your definition of acceptable risk is quite a bit more tame than mine." Keelah@crystyll: "A point of contention, no doubt. But I did not come here to dwell on past conflicts; lest I invite further gloating at the damage you did the Valley Forge in the past" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Not much to gloat about. You've taken down a good number of my ships. Expendable ones, yes, but I'd still rather them be intact." Keelah@crystyll: "Exactly; I instead find the future a much more interesting topic. Still fluid, undecided... open for debate" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Some people would disagree with you on that. There are those that believe the events to come is entirely determined by what has already transpired. If one were to know all the variables of the - The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: - universe one would be able to predict the future. But I don't buy any of that razo." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "It takes the organic element out of life. The wild card. Choice." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I think that's something your Federation's ideology would agree on, no?" Keelah@crystyll nods, "Indeed, it is also something which I am curious to learn about here; namely your own choices that have led to you sitting here, among the Orions of the OSN" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "That's quite a long story. You sure you don't want to grab a cup of tea first? Coffee doesn't have much of an effect on Vulcan physiology, if I recall correctly." Keelah@crystyll smiles, "I lean towards raktajino. The stimulus is moot, but it does pack a nice strong flavour" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 chuckles, "Ever the rebellious type, aren't you? I hear most Vulcans prefer food so bland they might as well be eating paste rations." Keelah@crystyll: "Most Vulcans also tend not to eat meat... or smile" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Indeed." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Well, I'll give you the short version." Keelah@crystyll folds her hands in her lap as she listens The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Back when the OSN was getting on its feet, I was their black ops. We raided Syndicate ships and shared them amongst ourselves. We weren't formal members of the OSN, so when my people got caught - The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: - the Syndicate can't blame the OSN. Both our groups needed ships, and I wanted to hurt the Syndicate, so it was win-win for everyone. Except the Syndicate, obviously." Keelah@crystyll: "Clearly that arrangement did not last..." she studies BL with analytical eyes a moment, "...Something happened to bitter that relationship" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "We only had one pair of contacts. Tabadi Emeria and one of my agents. The Syndicate somehow caught word of our arrangement, something tells me that damned Scryer was involved with his twisted - The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 - ideology. Whatever it was, Emeria decided to cut ties and get rid of my agent. Which would've been fine with me, I got plenty out of it already." Keelah@crystyll: "But...?" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "This was before I had clones, you see, and my agent was only Orion. She ran and contacted me, so I sent some ships to pick her up thinking it was just another mission." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "OSN ships turned up, killed my agents and blew my ships to oblivion." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Apparently, as I recently learned, Emeria told the OSN my agent was a Syndicate spy that needed to be hunted down so she didn't have to reveal she was working with me behind the OSN's back." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "OSN ships showed up thinking mine were Syndicate and caught us with our shields down." Keelah@crystyll: "I see. And this Emeria is... one of the Circle, yes?" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Was." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Circle always has to have odd numbers so there's no tied vote. They were still deciding what to do with Emeria, but with Mysti's death and no immediate successor ready, booting her from the Circle - The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 - was the easiest way to odd the number again. She's still in charge of shipbuilding, she just doesn't get a vote anymore. At least, not until another fourteenth Tabadi is selected." Keelah@crystyll: "I see. I must say..." she tilts her head a little with thought and smiles, "...What should I call you anyway? 'The Branded Lady' seemed a suitably mysterious title when you were a faceless enemy, but Keelah@crystyll: it hardly seems right sitting here addressing you as such in person" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 chuckles, "The Branded Lady is what the underworld calls me. It does have a nice ring to it, I must admit, but you can call me Vora." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "The full name is Vora-Orion Dos Shaie'Foree Nos Zona, but I don't expect you to be able to remember or pronounce that." Keelah@crystyll dips her head in acknowledgement and chuckles, "Definitely Arshai... Well Vora I must say; your knowledge of the inner workings of the Circle is impressive... it could almost sound first hand" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I have been dealing with them a fair bit in the past month or so. Plus, I did my research before I launched my first full force attack against the OSN." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Just about every culture in the galaxy emphasizes on knowing your enemy. Why'd you think I go to such lengths to conceal who I am?" Keelah@crystyll: "Evidently. So now here you are - sitting among them as a welcome friend. But you would no doubt be disappointing if I simply accepting things at face value and not wonder; why, and to what end?" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Why's pretty obvious. The losses were beginning to outweigh the gains. And when I learned that it was just Emeria who was responsible and not the whole OSN, trying to pin the mistakes of one Orion - The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 - on their entire fleet seems a bit unfair, doesn't it?" Keelah@crystyll: "True. But this armistice must still align with your own ultimate goals in some way" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Well, I want to see the Orion people prosper just as much as everybody here." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I might not look very Orion to you, but the Syndicate doesn't discriminate when it comes to people they can enslave." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Yes, I was good at their game. I played my way to the top. But that doesn't mean I have to like it." Keelah@crystyll: "Indeed. And what of the Arshai people? That side of your heritage has proven to be of equal import as well" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "The Colonial Fleet is an Arshai asset. I've just got good ideas on how to build it up and a better grasp on space warfare than these scientists and politicans ever will." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "But its primary purpose is to serve the New World and liberate the remainder of the Arshai people." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Only then am I allowed to commit assets to bringing down the Syndicate." Keelah@crystyll folds her arms across her chest, "Liberate the Arshai people... from the Overseer?" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "What else?" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Remember what I said about the organic element of life? The ability to make choices, be the person you want to be." Keelah@crystyll nods, "I am aware of the polarization of the Arshai people resultant from the Overseer's attempts to remove this element" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "That's why we're building up the fleet. On a world dominated by machine defences and cameras watching your every move there's no opportunity for rebellion." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Their only hope is from outside." Keelah@crystyll: "Perhaps, perhaps not. I'm afraid it's a topic which I am limited to purely speculating on. Non-interference in internal affairs and all that" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 nods, "I don't blame you for not wanting to get involved. But that's exactly why my fleet has to." Keelah@crystyll: "What I want is irrelevant. Starfleet protocol forbids us from getting involved" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I know, I've read up on your Starfleet protocols. I don't agree with all of them, but I can understand why they're in place. And you don't have to worry about the Colonial Fleet arming - The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 - underdeveloped societies with our technology. The Arshai know full well the outcomes of that from our experience with the EereE." Keelah@crystyll: "Of course. And speaking of the Colonial Fleet; I did not seek you out today purely to gather information" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I figured as much. What is it you're looking for?" Keelah@crystyll shakes her head with a knowing smile, "Not looking for. Offering..." she teases, standing to stretch her legs and admire the colony view from the window The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 's gaze follows Keelah curiously, "Offering? And here I thought the Federation would be storming up demanding reparations or something..." Keelah@crystyll: "We are not our allies. Such action may be expected from the Klingons perhaps, but we will always favour a more... amenable approach, when one can be sought" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "And what is your more amenable offer?" Keelah@crystyll: "A simple, courteous invitation" she looks back with a smile The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Invitation? To what, join your Federation?" Keelah@crystyll chuckles, "One day, perhaps. Though I doubt even I will live to see it. No, in truth your activity in recent months alongside that of the OSN has not gone unnoticed, and we are aware of the OSN's Keelah@crystyll: desire to forge a lasting bond with the Federation, if not become a fully fledged member themselves one day too" Keelah@crystyll turns back to face her, "But we are still at the very precipice of peace, and Command is understandably tentative when it comes to dealings with both yourself and Orion's in general" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 nods. "Understandable." Keelah@crystyll: "They have - however - heeded my recommendation and share an optimistic hope that all is as it appears, and that intentions are sincere all around" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I'm glad you took the message well and didn't just scuttle my gift." Keelah@crystyll: "To that end; Command would like to formally invite you, th OSN, and perhaps even as speaker for the... 'researchers and politicians' of the Arshai to come together at the table and speak openly as on Keelah@crystyll: *as one." Keelah@crystyll: "I have always been an optimist Vora, and would come here under no premise other than encouraging lasting peace and friendly relations, today of all days" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "It might take some persuading to get them to send a Council representative offworld. But I've talked the Council my way before, and I can do it again." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I can't promise how long it'll take. You know what politics can be like." Keelah@crystyll: "It would be in their best interests to participate now that they are gaining notoriety" Keelah@crystyll: "If it would help demonstrate our sincerity; I have been authorized to speak on behalf of the Federation here and would be more than happy to visit them on their own ground" Keelah@crystyll perches herself on the arm of the chair The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "That, I might not be able to talk them into. Anonymity is our first and strongest line of defence." Keelah@crystyll nods, "As I suspected. The offer is there nonetheless, should it be an arrangement they find more preferable" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I'll speak to the Council about it at the next meeting I can attend. I'll do my best to make sure this doesn't fall through." Keelah@crystyll: "At the very least, I remain hopeful that you and a representative of the Circle will be open to sitting down with our leadership" Keelah@crystyll: "Such an invitation - after all - can only serve to further validate the growing alliance with the OSN; something which I know they have been striving towards" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I think I can manage talking at least one representative into attending. Wouldn't be the first time I took another Council member on a trip." Keelah@crystyll nods as she returns to her seat, "I can also confirm that Command will honour the armistice as long as no Starfleet vessel or protectorate is provoked" Keelah@crystyll: "At least as far vessels clearly identified as belonging to your Colonial Fleet" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Some of our vessels are distinct constructions of our own, but a large number of our fleet is comprised of salvaged vessels, not registered in any way." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Not that I plan on parading the entire fleet down a well known route, but how do you propose we identify ourselves if we stumble across a Starfleet ship? A code system?" Keelah@crystyll: "Transponders could be an option" she nods Keelah@crystyll: "The important thing here is simple;..." Keelah@crystyll: "Any unaffiliated vessel which is identified by a Starfleet crew as being wanted for crimes against the Fleet or it's assets will still be pursued for prosection" Keelah@crystyll: "A caveat which I suspect will not be overly concerning to you, given your apparent penchant for using freelance pirate forces for such operations and holding back strategic assets" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Installing some form of transponder shouldn't be too difficult. As for the raiding fleet, that is indeed not a major concern." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "There's a few of my Orion and Nausicaan ships you might know, but I can easily reassign them to the defence fleet." Keelah@crystyll: "That may be prudent if they are likely to have outstanding warrants for acts still classed as warcrimes, albeit under the orders of your fleet" Keelah@crystyll: "If however they are freelance assets which - as I recall you saying - have all been let go or reassigned, then I consider the point to be moot anyway" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "There's a fair number of those too, yes. And salvaged ships which you don't yet recognize as they haven't been used in raids." Keelah@crystyll shakes her head dismissively, "Command is only concerned with unaffiliated vessels who are recognized as having commited crimes against the Federation. They will not be protected by the armistice" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "A lot of those are the Scryer's ships. Feel free to blow those up or do whatever you want." Keelah@crystyll chuckles, "Duly noted" Keelah@crystyll pauses a moment before standing, "So... do we have an accord?" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 nods, "We have an accord." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I'll give the order to install transponders on all our outgoing ships. Something that would let you identify us as Colonial Fleet." Keelah@crystyll smiles and raises her hand, "Then it is an honour to greet you as friend true. Peace and long life" Keelah@crystyll: Live Long and Prosper. Keelah@crystyll displays a Vulcan Salute. The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 smiles back, "Likewise, Captain." Keelah@crystyll: "Now that's dealt with, I believe the last time we spoke there was another more... personal request left to be resolved" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Ah yes, the Arshai you're carrying on board your ship." Keelah@crystyll: "A trusted member of my crew, and a friend" she clarifies The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I won't demand they come to the New World or anything, that would just be hypocritical after what I just said about choice." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "But an opportunity to speak to her would be nice." Keelah@crystyll: "Well I'm here to tell you that she is equally interested in learning about you and the New World" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "I've been a similar situation to hers when I first knew of the New World. I imagine she will be quite intrigued to learn about true Arshai culture." Keelah@crystyll: "Undoubtedly. My primary concern though is to first facilitate this arrangement" Keelah@crystyll looks back with a slight smirk, "We may no longer be shooting at each other, but trust must still be earned; for us both I would wager" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 nods, "All too true." Keelah@crystyll: "It would be logical to capitalize on us both being present in the system for this memorial..." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Narris is a good neutral ground to facilitate such a meeting, and we will not always both be here." Keelah@crystyll: "That it would. Of course, if you are feeling equally diplomatic and explorative... perhaps you would care to join us for an evening on the Valley Forge. See Federation culture for yourself, not just Keelah@crystyll: through spy networks and salvaged data" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "From what I've learned through spy networks and salvaged data, the Federation's not the type to pull off a deceptive trap. Still..." Keelah@crystyll holds up a hand, "I understand your apprehention..." Keelah@crystyll: "There is no obligation to accept of course, this is simply my way of... allowing this tentative new trust to build" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Is this invitation open to just me, or other members of the Colonial Fleet as well? I won't bring any Ravens or other assassination and espionage models, nor enough to overwhelm your crew or - The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 - anything like that." Keelah@crystyll chuckles, "Well the invitation is primarily to facilitate this union between you and Mana. However... it would be perfectly acceptable for any visiting representative to have a small entourage" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Then I'll accept. Don't worry, I'm not stupid enough to try and sabotage your ship or anything like that." The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "Even if I do get away with my own life, it wouldn't serve any purpose. Just get Starfleet on my back again." Keelah@crystyll: "I should certainly hope not" she smiles, "Then I shall inform our chef to prepare a suitable cultural experience" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 smiles, "I look forward to being on board." Keelah@crystyll: "As do I. If there is nothing more then, I shall take my leave. Lendaria has told me quite a bit about this celebration of life and I am curious to experience it first hand" The Branded Lady@annpc#5570: "It's not a very Vulcan way of doing things," she smirks. "I think you'll like it." Keelah@crystyll chuckles, "I'm liking it already. Be well, Vora. And I look forward to welcoming you on board" she raises a hand in farewell as she makes for the door The Branded Lady@annpc#5570 raises a hand in return.

Lorri@crystyll stands sipping idly at a glass of wine, watching Lennie on the level below Kayd@anncarise observes Lennie as well as she steps up to the railing. Lorri@crystyll: "That is one troubled girl" Kayd@anncarise nods, "Seeing her mother die like that, it'll shake anyone." Kayd@anncarise: "I lost most of my family, but I was never there to see any of it." Kayd@anncarise: "By the time I learned it was years later already." Lorri@crystyll: "As I understand it; so was it the case for her. The first time at least..." Kayd@anncarise: "I can only imagine what it's like, finding her alive and then losing her all over again, and having to watch it this time." Lorri@crystyll shakes her head solemnly, "I can imagine no worse fate than to be in her shoes right now" Kayd@anncarise: "Well...I've read a few even more tragic stories in the Syndicate databases." Kayd@anncarise sighs, "To them, it's just another one of a looong list of atrocities." Lorri@crystyll: "I'd be surprised if they even called it such" Kayd@anncarise: "Examples." Kayd@anncarise: "That's the word they use." Kayd@anncarise: "Or collatoral, when it's unintentional." Lorri@crystyll: "Well this was anything but unintentional. They got exactly what they wanted this time" Lorri@crystyll is not impressed. Kayd@anncarise: "Not exactly what they want. Certainly a victory for them, but I think they were aiming for more." Kayd@anncarise: "Why'd you think they were so content to leave us alone when the Branded Lady was on our heels, and suddenly decide to strike against us now?" Lorri@crystyll: "They didn't strike at us now. They struck at Mysti personally" Lorri@crystyll: "And I'd say they got more than they bargained for alright..." she scoffs, "...maybe it will be one they call an atrocity after all" Kayd@anncarise: "Mysti, who also happened to be instrumental in stopping our conflict with the Branded Lady." Lorri@crystyll sighs, "True enough. She was in many ways; the face of our people to the galaxy, and so was instrumental in a great many things" Kayd@anncarise: "Maybe the folks who did it had a personal grudge against Mysti. But I'm willing to bet the Syndicate as a whole had bigger ideas in mind." Kayd@anncarise: "That's what they're good at. Destabilizing others by identifying and eliminating critical leaders." Kayd@anncarise: "Probably the reason the Klingons made friends with them. They're too damn honourable to do things like that themselves." Lorri@crystyll nods, "But I suspect they may not have foreseen the repercusions facing them now from all of this though" Kayd@anncarise: "Oh we'll make sure they don't." Lorri@crystyll: "We may not even need to directly intervene..." she sips her wine Kayd@anncarise: "Think the Klingons and F'deraxt'la will do the job for us?" Lorri@crystyll grins lightly, "Even better; I think our own kin will" Kayd@anncarise nods, "Mysti is quite popular among the fesins and lower classes of Syndicate controlled worlds. Maybe, just maybe, it'll be enough to spark a revolution." Lorri@crystyll: "There are already whispers..." Lorri@crystyll: "Her death at the Syndicate's hand would have quashed any such thoughts, but the way things transpired..." Lorri@crystyll: "Self sacrifice to again save her daughter from their grasp..." shakes her head, "...This stuff resonates with their kind" she says nodding towards Lennie Kayd@anncarise: "Eisa put it well. That kind of story resonates with everyone." Lorri@crystyll: "That she did" she holds her gaze on Lennie as she sips, "As did young Lendaria; with speeches like that, she's undoubtedly her mother's daughter" Kayd@anncarise chuckles, "That she is. Never got the hang of talking like that myself, and don't think I ever will." Kayd@anncarise: "I'd be more comfortable talking in code than that." Lorri@crystyll: "Much as I might be with you there, I am unable to deny the sense that washed over the crowd as a result of her words earlier. They struck a chord" Kayd@anncarise: "There is power in words. Usually find it more often in the highborns, though." Lorri@crystyll gives her a sideways glance, "...not all of them" Kayd@anncarise: "Oh I don't mean all highborns should be /expected/ to do that or something. Not all lowborns are dancers and entertainers either." Kayd@anncarise: "I mean I couldn't be one if my life depended on it," she chuckles. Kayd@anncarise: "And not even everyone who grew up the same way I did ended up being handy with tech." Lorri@crystyll chuckles, "That is why we are all here, is it not? Testament to the fact that we are all more than our birthright" Kayd@anncarise: "Very true." Kayd@anncarise: "If we didn't have the OSN, all any of us would inherit is a part of the Syndicate's criminal empire." Kayd@anncarise: "Doesn't matter if that's an apartment in the slums or the head of a pirate fleet." Kayd@anncarise: "It's all equally dirty." Lorri@crystyll: "Indeed" she looks around, "I will be much prouder to see my child inherit a part of this" Kayd@anncarise nods, "Even if it's just a simple house with a view like this." Lorri@crystyll: "Or the command of the finest marvel in the fleet. Kayeri Vaj is quite the piece of engineering" Kayd@anncarise: "That she is. Say what you will about Emeria, but she knows what she's doing when it comes to ships." Kayd@anncarise: "Thana Vaneri, Kayeri Vaj...all ships with the right to call themselves Orion. Pretty, but tough too." Lorri@crystyll nods, "I have the upmost respect for Emeria; she did what had to be done regardless of the outcome" Kayd@anncarise: "Even the most advanced computer can't get remotely close to predicting the future. All we can do is what we think is best." Lorri@crystyll: "Quite right too. Had I held her position at the time... I may well have the same, or worse..." she chuckles Kayd@anncarise: "Hard to say what I'd have done. But now that we know what can result from things like that, I think there's a lesson in there for all of us." Lorri@crystyll nods, "There is reason for the Circle after all" Kayd@anncarise nods, "Like the KDF captain said, one mistake and we could be throwing years of all our hard work down the drain." Lorri@crystyll: "That is nothing new though" Kayd@anncarise: "And even for bigger factions like the Klingons, that's still a very real possibility. They did almost destroy themselves with that whole Praxis affair after all." Kayd@anncarise: "But at least now we know how one type of mistake can be made, and maybe we'll be able to figure out how not to make it the next time something like that happens." Lorri@crystyll nods, "Well I should go pay me respects to Lendaria. Goddess watch you, Tabadi" Kayd@anncarise: "And you as well, Tabadi." Kayd@anncarise nods back.

Captain's Log | CAPT K. Se'Lai | Stardate 94749.9
I have decided to hold position in the Narris system for the time being after conveying LCDR Lendaria to her mother's memorial service. Though the formal service for the late Tabadi Mysti has concluded; the 'life celebration' as eluded to by LCDR Lendaria en route is still ongoing, and - by all accounts - may last for some days yet. I naturally have no wish to disrupt this delicate time in the LCDR's personal affairs and have instead opted to utilize this time to further progress our assignment from VADM Perim.
Following the official ceremony I found predictably rapid success in opening dialogue with other members of the OSN leadership. Of particular note are Tabadi's Lorri & Delandria. Whilst Lorri strikes me as a much fresher member of this 'Circle', her realm of influence is matched only by passion in beliefs common with the late Mysti. Delandria would appear to be the closest they have to a single leader within the Circle. She is - as it were - the matriarch of the matriarchs; one of the founding members and well respected throughout the Circle. Both of these - and others - seemed eager to continue Mysti's work and had distinct focus on retaining her diplomatic achievements both with ourselves, the Klingon Empire and the Colonial Fleet of the New World - who we of course still identify more commonly through the figurehead of 'The Branded Lady'.
After concluding my talks with the Tabadi's, I was also able to isolate the Branded Lady - or Vora-Orion Dos Shaie'Foree Nos Zona (Vora for short) as is her proper name - and present VADM Perim's terms. Though naturally tentative, I found her to be highly agreeable in conversation and accepting of our caveat to the armistice that it will not extend to any unaffiliated freelance vessels identified by Starfleet patrols as having a Wanted status. Almost more surprising though, was her willingness to accept the same invitation as the OSN Tabadi's to come to the discussion table with us proper.
Vora did advise however that she only represents her Colonial Fleet and gave me the impression that there is a more political structure in place for the colony at large - making mention of a Council. Though I have done my upmost to encourage her in extending this invitation to them, she remains doubtful of their willingness to present themselves. It seems to me that this is not for the lack of a desire to forge bonds however, but more of inherent protective instinct which also negates the possibility for now of having us meet on their grounds.
---
Supplemental: In an effort to maintain a true diplomatic relationship with Vora and those she represents, I have followed tradition and invited her - and a select few of her comrades - to join my senior staff and I for a reception hosted on board the Valley Forge while we are both holding position in orbit around Narris II. If nothing else; her hesitant reaction makes clear that we need to earn her trust as much as she needs to earn ours if this peace is to last. I of course have every faith in my senior staff to present as the very finest example of Federation culture, and personally relish the opportunity to learn more about their's.
This reception will also be a critical time both for Vora and our own Mana; both having previously expressed a natural interest in meeting, this function will also serve to accommodate the pair with that opportunity. And one final reminder; we have a few days until our guests arrive. In addition to the standard security protocols, I must have Kelly and Silvestrie investigate means to further secure sensitive areas from infrared vision spectrum. Perhaps Mana would be willing to aid in their efforts...
