Stardate 52775.1 |Construction of the newest Defiant-class ship U.S.S. Radiant was completed shortly after the Breen attack on Earth. The Radiant was assigned to the Third Fleet to bolster defense of the Sol system and as a result did not see action during the war.
Stardate 73088.5 | Following over twenty years of active service where the Radiant performed little more than routine patrols, a new Vigilant-class escort replaced the Radiant's position in the Third Fleet while the older Defiant-class entered drydock in Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards for a five-year major refit. The purpose of the refits was to optimize the Radiant into an actual escort ship, as its role was slowly being replaced by the Vigilant and the then-in-development Gallant-class. A major part of the modification was the complete replacement of the Class-7 Matter-Antimatter Reaction Assembly with a state-of-the-art Class 9 core. This improved M/AM reactor technology allowed the Radiant greater power reserves to draw on, which made the overhauled deflector and engine systems possible. The Radiant was also equipped with the latest stealth detection suites to bolster its protective capabilities.
Stardate 78453.2 | Radiant was released from drydock and assigned to priority escort missions such as important supply ships and diplomatic convoys.
Stardate 82181.9 | With the outbreak of the Klingon-Federation War, the Radiant was reassigned to a reconnaissance role due to the effectiveness of its stealth detection systems against Klingon ships. For this purpose the Radiant underwent a minor refit with the intention of matching its combat ability to that of modern escorts. Due to the improved warp core and power systems, engineers were able to attach two additional phaser pulse cannons which can be fired simultaneously with the original four, albeit with substantial power drain.
Stardate 84764.7 | Radiant is disabled and boarded by Klingons during a failed recon mission. While reinforcements arrived before they could destroy the ship, the commanding officer of the Radiant, Commander Narong Wu was captured and eventually killed by the Klingons. Captain Rudolph Von Essen, who had just returned to service after the loss of his former ship, is placed in command of the Radiant.
Stardate 90318.4 | Being one of the Starfleet ships deployed in the Klingon Neutral Zone, the Radiant responded to the Klingon Defense Force's call for aid and assisted in the aftermath of the Undine attack on Qo'noS.
Stardate 91333.1 | USS Radiant was lost during one of the initial engagements with Iconian Herald forces at Una II. Only three survivors were recovered in the aftermath of the battle.
