Ann Carter@anncaris FX | Lennie finds herself back in the Syndicate slaver facility she was captured in. Amid the chaos, she is beamed out to a Starfleet transporter room. Ann Carter@anncaris | As the group clears the transporter pad, Lennie hears the transporter operator say: "Captain! I'm having problems with the confinement beam!" Ann Carter@anncaris | The transporter pad flickers away as it tries to lock on to and materialize Mysti. Ann Carter@anncaris | Transporter Chief: "I think our beamout caused a brief disruption in her work on keeping the scattering field down. It re-initialized mid-beamout!" Ann Carter@anncaris | Sparks begin to form as the transporter tries to materialize Mysti, but begins to fade before gaining strength and fading again, the cycle repeating. Ann Carter@anncaris | Transporter Chief: "Captain, the pattern is beginning to degrade! We're losing her!” Ann Carter@anncaris | The sparks fade away, and the chief says, "Tying auxiliary into the pattern buffer... narrowing confinement and..." Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti's vague form begins to appear on the transporter pad, but still transparent and ghostly.... Lendaria@crystyl looks around at the distorted confusion around her, gaze settling on the ghostly form, "Momma...?” Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti speaks, her voice sounding like her own, but distant and echoing, "Death...does not have to be the end.” Lendaria@crystyl tries to approach her, but feels rooted to the spot, "Momma whaddaya mean?” Ann Carter@anncaris | The transporter beam reaches its full intensity, obscuring Mysti's figure. When it fades away, Mysti is not there. Instead in her place stands...Poseidon's Trident, standing upright on the - Ann Carter@anncaris - pad despite having nothing holding it up that way. It is in its humanoid-sized form, tall but not gigantic as seen in the tower. Lendaria@crystyl 's instinct is to again try and step forward to take the Trident Mysti turned into. Ann Carter@anncaris | As soon as Lennie grabs on to the Trident, everything goes black for a second and... Ann Carter@anncaris | Lennie finds herself holding the Trident in the centre of a dark room. To both sides are rows and rows of tubes, each containing an exact clone of Mysti. Lendaria@crystyl looks around before starting to walk down the corridor of tubes before her Ann Carter@anncaris | One of the pods open, filling the area around it with mist. Out of the haze steps a Mysti clone. Ann Carter@anncaris | Lennie hears hisses around her as more pods begin to open. Lendaria@crystyl stops short of the Mysti clone. Calling out to her in the same tone as before, "Momma...?" Lendaria@crystyl looks around at the additional openings, "Momma...?" Ann Carter@anncaris | The first clone steps up to Lennie. Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti #1: "The mortal form is but a shell that can be shed.” Ann Carter@anncaris | A second one steps out of the mist, then a third, and a fourth, and Lennie finds herself surrounded by Mystis on all sides. Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti #2: "You do not have to lose anyone again.” Lendaria@crystyl spins around, feeling increasingly claustrophobic, "Momma I don't understand! Whaddaya want me t'do?” Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti #3: "The future is coming.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti #4: "Embrace it.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti #5: "You can save the ones you love.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti #6: "Our ascendance is at hand.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Mysti #7: "Embrace it..." Lendaria@crystyl spins back and forth turning from one Mysti to the next as they speak. Ann Carter@anncaris | The Mystis stretch out their arms, each setting a hand on Lennie and she stirs awake... Lendaria@crystyl blinks the world into focus. Ann Carter@anncaris | Lennie wakes on her bed in her quarters, with Ann lying next to her. Lendaria@crystyl tries to get up after a minute, without disturbing Ann. Ann Carter@anncaris turns in the bed a few seconds after Lennie gets up. When she reaches over and realizes Lennie isn't beside her, she blinks her eyes open before looking around. Ann Carter@anncaris sleepily mutters, "'S time for duty already?” Lendaria@crystyl looks over, "Sorry Sweets, didn't mean t'wake ya. S'bit early still.” Ann Carter@anncaris leans up slowly, "No worries, vijra. Can't sleep?” Lendaria@crystyl perches on the end of the bed, rubbing her eyes, "Somethin' like tha' yeah…” Lendaria@crystyl:"Damned weird dreams…” Ann Carter@anncaris slides over to the edge of the bed to sit beside Lennie, "Wha' was the dream 'bout?" Lendaria@crystyl thinks a moment to recall, "Momma. Lot's of momma's... an' tha' trident.” Ann Carter@anncaris nods, "I thought ya might be thinkin' o' her after seein' the clone on the Waystation. But wha's tha' trident got to do with anythin'?” Lendaria@crystyl shakes her head, "I wish I knew…” Ann Carter@anncaris:"Definitely damned weird…” Lendaria@crystyl:"Wha' were it she kept sayin' now... somethin'bout embracin' th'future.” Ann Carter@anncaris:"Embracin' the future?" She thinks for a second. "Yeah...I got no idea wha' tha's about.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Dreamin' bout momma I get. But weird messages, like she were tryin' a tell me somethin'? An' why th'trident? It don't even make sense for a dream!” Ann Carter@anncaris:"Maybe somethin's causin' 'em? Like the trident, or bein' close to the Horde? But those implants are supposed to protect us, an' we've had the trident onboard for a while now, an' I don't think - Ann Carter@anncaris:- either o' us have been havin' weird dreams before now. Well, no weirder than usual, at least.” Lendaria@crystyl:"I suppose I could check th'vault. Make sure there's no change in it's status…” Ann Carter@anncaris:"Might be worth a look. Wanna try an' sleep more for now, or? We got duty shifts first thing in the mornin', but I guess it's not tha' far off now anyways.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Eh... I don't think I could sleep anyway.” Ann Carter@anncaris nods, "I'll get up too, then. We can check on tha' trident quickly, an' then head for duty.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Y'sure ya don't mind?” Ann Carter@anncaris:"Nah, I've slept less than this plenty times before. An' wanna make sure things are alright with the trident an' everythin'.” Lendaria@crystyl smiles, pulling her into an affectionate hug while kissing her on the cheek, "Tha's mah Sweets. Aight, if we can't get ourselves back t'bed, le's at least try an' put this trident thing t'bed.” Ann Carter@anncaris smiles back as she hugs Lennie, "Yeah. Y'sure you're alright too, with the dream an' the clone an' everythin'?” Lendaria@crystyl shrugs, "Prolly not, but as good as can be in th'circumstances" she smiles, getting up and dressed. Ann Carter@anncaris nods and stands to get dressed as well, "Let's hope there ain't any more surprises like tha'...” Lendaria@crystyl:"I'm-a sure is nothin'" she smiles reassuringly” --- Lendaria@crystyl FX | En route to the Vault with Ann, Lennie checks with the computer to see where Prof. Lycas is and gauge if he is up and about at this hour or not. Once reasonably confident she won't be waking + Lendaria@crystyl + him, she taps her combadge, "Lendaria to Lycas" Lycas@annpc#557 | Lycas' voice promptly responds through the combadge, "Lycas here.” Lendaria@crystyl:<C> Mornin' Professor. If I ain't disturbin' ya, ya up for meetin' us at th'Vault t'investige somethin'? Lycas@annpc#557:<C> "I am not preoccupied at the moment. I will head to the Vault now.” Lendaria@crystyl:<C> Grand! We'll see's ya there. Lendaria@crystyl turns to Ann with a satisfied smile afterwards, "See, told ya he wouldn't be sleepin'!” Lycas@annpc#557 | Ann chuckles, "Vulcans don't tend to sleep much, do they…” Lendaria@crystyl:"If there is anythin' untoward wit' tha' Trident, I'm-a sure th'Prof'll spot it” Lycas@annpc#557 | Ann: "There's no better experts on alien tech than him, or so they say.” Lendaria@crystyl:"S'true from wha' I seen. Old boy knows his stuff, you'll see!" she chirps, eager to solve the mystery. Lendaria@crystyl & Ann soon arrive at the Vault ahead of the professor, being already on their way when she called him. Lycas@annpc#557 arrives a minute later, looking around the Vault before settling on Lennie and Ann, "Commander. Ensign.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Hey Professor, thanks f'joinin' us!” Lycas@annpc#557 nods, "What is this about?” Lendaria@crystyl:"Tha' Trident. It may be nothin', but - an' don't laugh - I... had a weird dream in th'night…” Lycas@annpc#557 raises a brow curiously, "A...dream in the night? Concerning the Trident?” Lendaria@crystyl nods, "Yeah. Was mostly mah momma, but th'Trident were definitely central to it an' I can't figure why that'd been there. She were givin' me lots o strange message 'bout destiny or somethin' an' + Lendaria@crystyl:+ seemed t'focus me toward th'Trident.” Lendaria@crystyl:"I dunno wha' it means, but wit' all tha's happened o'late, I wanted t'at least check it's still inert an' not like, emittin' new readin's or anythin'.” Lycas@annpc#557 steps over to where the Trident is kept, "Fascinating. One can never be too careful when it comes to ancient artifacts such as this. The species that made them were known to have significant - Lycas@annpc#557:- telepathic and other capabilities that allowed them to manipulate matter with their minds.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Tha's why I figured it's worth investigatin' at least. I mean, I were around it when it was proper active. But then... so were Ann, an' she ain't had no dreams.” Lendaria@crystyl joins Lycas, tapping on the keypad to open the vault drawer holding the Trident. Lycas@annpc#557 looks at the Trident as the drawer opens. It appears to be exactly the same as before. Lycas@annpc#557:"No visual changes. That is a good sign.” Lendaria@crystyl runs a cursory scan with her tricorder. Lycas@annpc#557 | Everything looks perfectly normal on her tricorder as well, giving the exact same readings it gave when the Trident was first brought on board. Lycas@annpc#557 meanwhile taps on the console, beginning a deeper analysis. He observes the results for a moment before turning to Lennie, "What exactly was this central role the Trident played in your dream?” Lendaria@crystyl thinks on the fading and fuzzy dream memory, "I think... yeah, it first appeared after I saw momma die in th'transporter. I were compelled t'take it. When I did, I were surrounded by her clones an' + Lendaria@crystyl:+ oh Goddess, wha' did she say now…” Lendaria@crystyl:"Somethin' about... death ain't th'end? I dunno, but it felt like I were bein' guided t'do somethin'.” Lycas@annpc#557 raises a brow, "That sounds like more than a dream. A telepathic entity attempting to manipulate you, perhaps, but our implants have already been proven to defend against such intrusions.” Lycas@annpc#557 | Ann: "Tha's wha' I was thinkin'! We've been near the Horde an' everythin' an' none o' us have had problems…” Lendaria@crystyl:"Ya can see why I figured this worth checkin' on then” Lycas@annpc#557 nods, "Indeed. Perhaps the Trident has different properties from the telepathy utilized by the Horde, or perhaps there is something unique about you having been involved with retrieving it.” Lendaria@crystyl looks to Ann, "I didn't have any different interaction wit' it than you'se, did I?” Lycas@annpc#557 | Ann: "Not tha' I remember...maybe ya were closer to it? I think I found the recordin's, while you were scannin' the Trident itself…” Lycas@annpc#557 | Ann: "But seein' the energy it was givin' off, I don't think a few metres'd make tha' much of a difference.” Lendaria@crystyl:"True. But le's say for a minute there were some factor we ain't noticed an' it's kinda... latched onto me. How'd we detect it?” Lycas@annpc#557:"If it is telepathic, I may be able to detect it with a mind meld, though there are others on board whose expertise may be more suited to such examinations.” Lendaria@crystyl:"S'your call, Professor. I ain't about t'push ya into tha' kinda thing, only say tha' I got no objection.” Lycas@annpc#557 turns back to the console, "Let us see if the artifact reveals anything first." Lendaria@crystyl:"Agreed. Explore all th'hard fact research before reachin' t'more extreme methods. Anythin' ya can think of tha' ain't on a standard scan? I ain't tha' up on telepathy.” Lycas@annpc#557 taps the console a few times before stopping the view the results, "The Trident still appears to be dormant. There is no indication of any activity. While we do not fully understand the - Lycas@annpc#557:- artifact's capabilities, we have been able to detect changes both inside and outside as a result of activity previously, as you are aware of.” Lendaria@crystyl:"But none o'tha' were telepathic in nature. Not like this anyway. Wha' bout me then? If we can't test th'Trident, wha' bout testin' me?” Lycas@annpc#557 turns to Lennie, "I was about to suggest you pay a visit to sickbay. It is possible your implant is malfunctioning, and they may be able to detect signs of telepathic influence on you, as they - Lycas@annpc#557:- are capable of detecting with those influenced by the Horde.” Lendaria@crystyl nods, "I'll make it mah next stop once we done 'ere. I guess if nothin' else, we can be glad th'Trident ain't suddenly doin' stuff.” Lycas@annpc#557 nods back, "Indeed. I hope you will be able to find the answers you seek elsewhere.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Thanks for givin' th'second opinion 'ere, Professor. I were worried I'd not be objective given th'nature o'this.” Lycas@annpc#557:"I understand. Let me know if you need further assistance, Commander." Lendaria@crystyl taps, sealing up the Trident again, "Will do Professor!" looking to Ann, "Next stop; sickbay then.” Lycas@annpc#557 | Ann nods, "C'mon. Let's get to the bottom o' this." --- NPC@annpc#557 | Lennie and Ann steps in to a very quiet sickbay, with no sound but that of faint equipment humming and the occasional console beep. No nurses are in view, and the beds seem to be devoid of - NPC@annpc#557 - patients at the moment. Lendaria@crystyl looks around, "Oh great, nobody's here yet? Maybe we should come back. I don't wanna try an' do this wit' tha' EMH..." NPC@annpc#557 | Ann: "Yeah, might be-” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah steps out through the medical office from the other side of sickbay, "Commander, Ensign.” NPC@annpc#557 | Ann: "Looks like someone's here after all.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "What can I do for you?” Lendaria@crystyl smiles (with relief), "Oh hey doc!” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah smiles back, "It's still early, so most of the staff aren't on duty yet. And quiet, which is a good thing for sickbay, really.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Indeed. This may be kinda an odd one for ya, but can do anythin' t'test mah neural inhibitor?” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "Sure I can. You're not hearing other people's thoughts, are you? That actually happened with the prototype, if you can believe it." She says as she motions Lennie over. Lendaria@crystyl chuckles, "Yeah, I heard all 'bout it. An' no, it ain't quite like tha'.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "Just lie down on the bed and I'll check it out for you. What makes you think there's a problem with it?" Lendaria@crystyl slumbers peacefully. Lendaria@crystyl hops up onto the bed and lays down, "I ain't rightly sure there is a problem. It's jus' - an' don't laugh - but I had a really weird dream. An' we wonderin' if it's from outside influence.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah steps over to tap the console while Ann lingers beside the bed to watch. NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "It must be a really weird dream for you to think there's outside influence. Dreams have a tendency to be random and nonsensical.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Don't I know it! But this weren't like any normal dream. At least, not entirely. We already looked at some other options an' got a second opinion. Still can't rule it out so... 'ere we are!” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah nods and looks from the readings to Lennie, "You're absolutely sure it wasn't just a regular weird dream?” Lendaria@crystyl scoffs, "No, I'm-a sure I ain't sure!” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "Well, it doesn't look like there's anything wrong with your implant. I'm going to run the scan we use to check for Horde influence, but there's no way the Horde could get to you with - NPC@annpc#557:- the implant working." She begins to tap on the console again. Lendaria@crystyl:"There'd better not be! But I mean, we don't suspect th'Horde. It were this artifact we recovered a while back. I saw it in mah dreams an' were like, compelled towards it.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "An artifact? You think it's trying to mind control you or something?” Lendaria@crystyl:"I don't know if mind control's th'way I'd-a put it. But wha'ever were puttin' them thoughts in mah head, they were tryin' a talk t'me; t' tell me somethin' but I dunno what.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "Well, I'm not seeing anything on my scans here. No sign of Horde influence or anything the medical scanners can pick up. As far as I can tell, you're well within Orion baselines." Lendaria@crystyl:"Well I guess tha's reassurin'. Even if it means I ain't no closer to an answer…” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "I can reset your implant just to be safe, if you want. That'll make sure it's on the same settings as everyone else's.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Nah, if there ain't no reason t'suspect anythin' wit' it, I ain't one t'go fiddlin'.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah nods, "Everything looks fine to me." She taps the console again and retracts the arch over the bed. Lendaria@crystyl breathes a sigh of relief as she sits up, "Well if there's nothin' suspect on ya scans then I ain't gonna waste ya time chasin' ghosts. Guess I jus' gotta chalk it up to a weird dream after all…” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "Must be. You never know when your subconscious takes you," she chuckles. Lendaria@crystyl hops off the bed, "Yeah, jus' wish I could figure out wha' it all means wit' them specific messages.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah: "Well, dreams are supposed to be reflections of our subconscious mind. So maybe instead of looking for some external factor, you should be looking inwards.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Easier said than done" she chuckles. NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah chuckles, "True. I have plenty of weird dreams I don't know the meaning of. But I suppose that's why I'm medical, not counseling.” Lendaria@crystyl sighs and smiles, "Thanks f'rulin' stuff out, Doc. Sorry t'have wasted ya time.” NPC@annpc#557 | Zanah smiles back, "No worries. Not like I had much else to do at this hour anyways.” Lendaria@crystyl:"Well I'll-a jus' let ya get back t'enjoyin' th'quiet then" she smiels and waves, "Catch ya later!" --- Keliaya@anncaris FX | After finding nothing different about the Trident, Lennie and Ann head to the bridge for duty. It has been several days since Rianni's return, and over a week since the VF set out from the - Keliaya@anncaris - Waystation. The Valley Forge cruises through space alongside the Light of Arindol, Guardian-Captain Daian's ship. Keliaya@anncaris looks to Rianni as she finishes up something on her own console, "So, Ensign. How're you finding official bridge duty?" Keliaya@anncaris:"I know you've been here before plenty of times, but it's a little different when you have a regular shift on the bridge every day, isn't it?” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni looks up with a smile, "Still getting used to being addressed like that, Commander! But... it does feel good to have the station to myself, no senior officer looming over my shoulder.” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni turns suddenly to the middle, "Erm... no offence, Commander Vrolmacht. But you are rather imposing.” Keelah@crystyl | Vrolmacht gives a slight snarling Klingon grin. Keliaya@anncaris laughs, "Technically he's still looking over all of us, but not directly looming over you anymore!” Keliaya@anncaris:"And I still have to think and not call you Cadet on instinct, myself…” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni: "I guess it takes some getting used to for everyone, not just me!” Keliaya@anncaris | Ann: "Yeah, definitely! I was still gettin' used to respondin' to Ensign for weeks after my graduation!” Keliaya@anncaris:"And it certainly took me a while to get used to Commander when I was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. I was a Lieutenant for several years. The promotion to Commander's easier though, since I was - Keliaya@anncaris:- getting called Commander anyways.” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni: "Well to be safe if we happen upon a tense situation at all, please address orders to the station rather than name or rank. If you think it may help of course.” Keliaya@anncaris nods, "That's a pretty good idea, actually. I've had COs who tended to use Miss or Mister on the bridge more often than rank, and that might actually be why, now that I think of it.” Keelah@crystyl | Lennie nods, "I've often heard Keelah use it for th'helm.” Keliaya@anncaris | Ann smirks, "We got the most important job clearly, so she doesn't want things gettin' mixed up in the heat o' things!” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni smiles as she listens. Keliaya@anncaris argues playfully, "Hey, we're all important!” Keliaya@anncaris | Ann: "Well, wha' maneuvers we carry out can often mean life an' death in a fight, an' the Cap'n probably doesn't want us gettin' it wrong.” Keelah@crystyl | Lennie: "Damned straight, Kel!" looks to Rianni with an equally playful smirk, "An' don'tcha be forgettin' in when you'se a big shot cap'n!" Keliaya@anncaris | Eva: "Speaking of flying the ship...apparently the QanwI' is reporting that they've detected a quantum slipstream sigature, headed towards us at transwarp speeds.” Keelah@crystyl | Lennie quickly straightens as she checks her own sensors to verify. Keelah@crystyl | Rianni also investigates after a brief smile at the comments. Keelah@crystyl | Lennie, "...got it. Slipstream on intercept course, closin' fast.” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni: "Recommend yellow alert, Commander” Keelah@crystyl | Vrolmacht raises a hand to her, looking the other way, "Communications?” Keliaya@anncaris | Eva: "None at the moment. Should I call the Captain and attempt to hail them?” Keelah@crystyl | Vrolmacht nods and turns back to Rianni, "Yellow alert" Keliaya@anncaris | Eva nods and contacts Keelah, "Bridge to Captain Keelah.” Keelah@crystyl:<C> "Se'Lai - I'm on my way. What's the situation?” Keliaya@anncaris | <C - Eva> "We have a vessel approaching us with a slipstream drive.” Keelah@crystyl:<C> Understood Keelah@crystyl arrives a few minutes later to find the bridge a buzz of activity, "ETA on the inbound?” Keliaya@anncaris | Ann: "ETA 'bout four minutes, Cap'n.” Keelah@crystyl:"Still no response to our hails?" she asks, silently swapping stations with Vrolmacht. Keelah@crystyl | Vrolmacht lurks around the bridge, appearing behind Rianni; towering with arms folded and making her jump when she eventually notices, forcing another toothy grin from the Klingon. Keliaya@anncaris | Eva: "They've just responded. They're identifying themself as...Devoted Responder." Keelah@crystyl looks over, "Devoted Responder? That sounds like a Nuhar name…” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni: "Confirmed, Captain; getting a confirmed match to Nuhar configurations" Keelah@crystyl nods, "Stand down yellow alert. Comms; has the Responder stated it's business?” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni looks between the earlier bantering officers with a slight smile at Keelah's form of address. Keliaya@anncaris | Eva: "It's asking for assistance and requesting holographic communication with both our ships.” Keelah@crystyl perks a slight brow at the seemingly unwarranted wave of small smiles suddenly appearing across her bridge crew, but thinks nothing of it, "Grant emitter access and patch in Guardian-Captain Daian.” Keliaya@anncaris | Eva: "On it, Captain.” Keliaya@anncaris | A few seconds later, a hologram of Guardian-Captain Daian appears beside Keelah, followed by the holographic projection of a Progenitor, looking not unlike the Architect. Keelah@crystyl:"Greetings Devoted Responder. This is a most unexpected interjection.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "You are of the Coalition, I assume?” Keelah@crystyl:"Yes, I am Captain Keelah of the Valley Forge. With me is Guardian-Captain Daian from the Light of Arindol.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I have heard much about you. I was on route to the Waystation to request assistance from your Coalition, but I suspect the other constructs may not lend their assistance, - Keliaya@anncaris:- and any non-Nuhar vessels that will assist may not make it in time. Your presence here is most opportune.” Keelah@crystyl:"You paint a worrying picture. What exactly do you require assistance with?” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I received a request for assistance from a group of refugees fleeing the Horde, but arrived too late to protect them. They were taken to a nearby system by Clenduros - Keliaya@anncaris:- slavers with a force too great for me to confront on my own, but with your vessels, we will be able to overcome them.” Keliaya@anncaris | Daian: "How far away is this system?” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "At your maximum speeds, it will take no more than 1.21 Waystation rotations.” Keelah@crystyl:"We will require much more detailed information as this is invariably more than a simple rescue of a set number of refugees. If we move against these slavers we will not only be making enemies of + Keelah@crystyl:+ their total number, but committing to providing aid to all slaves under their control. This is a very fine line for us to walk with the Prime Directive.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "The Clenduros have no central authority. Their civilization was destroyed by the Horde several generations ago, and what remains have scattered across the region. This is - Keliaya@anncaris:- simply a band that has resorted to piracy, with no connection to any larger organization. They do not keep slaves of their own, if you are concerned about receiving too many refugees to handle. - Keliaya@anncaris:- They sell the slaves to any who are willing to buy, which is why this rescue is time-sensitive. By the time further assistance arrives, the slaves may be sold off and dispersed.” Keelah@crystyl:"Ok, rogue pirate groups are a problem which fall under the Anarchist amendment. We'll still need to build a picture of what exactly we're facing if we are to attempt any form of extraction.” Keliaya@anncaris | Daian: "And normally an issue the Guardians will deal with if we can, but we are on a mission to warn the Felmoran Kingdoms of an incoming Horde threat. We cannot afford a delay for over - Keliaya@anncaris:- two days. We do not know when the Horde will arrive in Felmoran space, and we need to get there as soon as possible.” Keelah@crystyl nods, "We are, however, three vessels. Four with Devoted Responder” Keelah@crystyl:"Circumstances dependant; that may be sufficient to aid the refugee cause without delaying our primary mission.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "The Clenduros also possess four vessels, one taken or purchased from the Lupan, and three smaller vessels that Clenduros pirates are known to utilize.” Keelah@crystyl:"Do they operate their trade from these vessels or a fixed locations planetside?” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "The slaves and trading area is kept in a compound planetside. The vessels are used for raiding and guard the planet when they have captured slaves to trade.” Keelah@crystyl:"Then perhaps an indirect approach may be most prudent. Please forward us any available data on the slavers, their vessels and the compound.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I am sending it now.” Keelah@crystyl:"We will maintain course for now - as my comrade rightly pointed out - we can not afford any delay to our mission, but we may have a means to act still.” Keliaya@anncaris | Daian looks to Keelah, "What do you mean by an 'indirect approach?'" Keelah@crystyl:"Believe it or not; there are those among my crew with experience in such circumstances. Please, I do not wish to preemptively jump the details. If you would permit us a brief respite to review the + Keelah@crystyl:+ details and refine a plan, we can present it when fully compiled.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I will travel alongside you for the moment, until you are ready to present your plan.” Keelah@crystyl:"30 minutes and we will reconvene then.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "Very well.” Keliaya@anncaris | The Nuhar projection fades. --- Keelah@crystyl FX | On cue 30 minutes later, the holos reappear in the VF briefing room where the senior staff are gathered. Keelah@crystyl:"Ok, we have been over the basic details and believe we have a potential plan of action.” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "What is your suggestion?” Keelah@crystyl turns to Rianni, "Ensign; your brief.” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni sits up and attentive before giving a firm nod, "Captain" then looking to the guests all staring intently at her with a slightly nervous gulp. Keelah@crystyl | Rianni: "Our proposal is for an established slave extraction as proven and refined by the OSN in the liberation of Syndicate Cell facilities. Just without the preemptive revolution incitement" Keelah@crystyl | Rianni taps the console to present strategic displays, "The Valley Forge and Light of Arindol will continue on course, per mission directive. Whilst Eon and the Nuhar Fighter Wing transfer to + Keelah@crystyl:+ Devoted Responder and travel to the slaver stronghold alongside QanwI'.” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni pauses for breath, "QanwI' will deploy it's Guild fighters alongside our MACO's as I believe was done at the Iconian facility we took from the Horde. They will approach the system under + Keelah@crystyl:+ cloak and land on the planet's surface to deploy ground assault teams who will infiltrate the stronghold and seize control of the facility, neutralizing the slavers in the process. For the escape, + Keelah@crystyl:+ they will leave on the QanwI' - assuming no slaver vessels are grounded at the time - while Devoted Responder approaches and feigns a rescue attempt of it's own, using our support craft to engage + Keelah@crystyl:+ smaller slaver raiders. This will be timed to distract the slavers while QanwI' evacuates the refugees, then the orbital assault team can feign a losing hand and fall back before the slavers + Keelah@crystyl:+ realize they have lost their slaves.” Keelah@crystyl:"Thank you, Ensign" she looks around, "Thoughts?" Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "An impressive plan, and one I believe suitable for the situation." Keliaya@anncaris | Daian nods, "I agree. This will allow us to continue on our primary mission without ignoring the situation here. I have one request to make, though.” Keelah@crystyl nods to Daian, "By all means. This is a joint operation, I want everyone fully committed.” Keliaya@anncaris | Daian: "One of my Guardians, Knight Jul-Chim, would like to join the operation, probably as part of the ground assault team given his specialty. I would provide a full team to assist if the - Keliaya@anncaris:- QanwI' would like so, but this is a personal matter for Jul-Chim, and he wants to assist.” Keelah@crystyl perks a brow, "A personal matter?” Keliaya@anncaris | Daian: "Jul-Chim was with me when we first met near Zihil. He is a Clenduros, and does not approve of the lengths some of his people have gone to in order to survive. It is something we have - Keliaya@anncaris:- seen far too often among remains of peoples destroyed by the Horde, but Jul-Chim follows a...traditional code of honour, which demands that he deal with such moral failures among his people.” Keelah@crystyl:"I understand and respect such a thing, but can you give an absolute guarantee that this personal interest won't interfere with his part in the mission?” Keliaya@anncaris | Daian nods, "I assure you that it will not. Knight Jul-Chim is one of the finest Guardians I have fought with. We have faced Clenduros Anarchists and thralls together in the past, and he has - Keliaya@anncaris:- never allowed any personal interest to interfere with his duty.” Keelah@crystyl nods, "Of course, I apologize for asking but can't leave anything to chance. With any such operation as this we anticipate problems, and losses" looks to Rianni, "It's your strategy. What do you say?” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni: "Of course Jul-Chim will be accomodated per the request. As for additional Guardian forces, given the pertinent experience we would do well to have a contingent on board. However we must + Keelah@crystyl:+ keep numbers to a minimum in order to maintain QanwI's evac capacity. We may need to transfer some of their regular contingent out in order to make sufficient accommodations” Keelah@crystyl nods, "I'm sure we can put a few extra Klingons up for a couple of days.” Keliaya@anncaris | Daian: "I will transfer a fireteam of five under the leadership of Knight Jul-Chim, then. That should not displace too many people.” Keelah@crystyl:"Good. Then if we're all in agreement, we'll begin the transfers immediately so this mission can get underway. Devoted Responder, do you have sufficient capacity to host these hybrid constructs and + Keelah@crystyl:+ their lead craft with it's pilot?” Keelah@crystyl calls up a holo display of the ship. Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I do. I have significant free room to accomodate evacuations which can be utilized for this purpose.” Keelah@crystyl:"Excellent. We may need that capacity to alleviate the QanwI' once you're clear of the danger zone” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I will keep that space suitable for biological habitation.” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni: "I will continue to review and refine operational details for the ground assault team based on the data at hand, though the mission commanders will need to anticipate a certain... + Keelah@crystyl:+ operational discretion where it comes to the details as they come to light” Keelah@crystyl smiles a little, "I am certain Captain Vix would have it no other way” Keelah@crystyl | holo-Lexi, "HA!” Keliaya@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I am used to improvising in the midst of a situation. You organics are far too unpredictable.” Keelah@crystyl:"It serves its purposes for us" she smiles a little. Keliaya@anncaris | Daian: "It sounds like everything is in order. I'll have Jul-Chim ready his team." Keelah@crystyl:"Agreed, all that remains is for me to wish you good fortune on your mission, Devoted Responder. Alright everyone, we have work to do" --- NPC@annpc#557 FX | Shortly after Rianni presents her plan, Eon and the Nuhar fighters are transferred to the Devoted Responder, a Construct roughly the size of the Valley Forge, not unlike the most frequently - NPC@annpc#557 - encountered Watchers. Jenni lands in a large open hangar area which though clearly mechanical, appears almost organic in some respects, with wires running across the walls almost like veins. NPC@annpc#557 | The hangar doors close once Eon and the fighters all settle, with Jenni receiving a message on the Eon stating: "Please await pressurization." Jenni@crystyl runs through her post flight checks before taking a look around from her cockpit view while she awaits pressurization. NPC@annpc#557 | Before long, another message pops up: "Atmosphere has been customized per your physiology. You may exit." Jenni@crystyl dutifully disembarks, removing her flight helmet to take a proper look around. NPC@annpc#557 | With the Eon docked and the Nuhar fighters in standby mode, the area is extremely dark. As Jenni disembarks, several lines of light turn on along the floor, not illuminating the area brightly, - NPC@annpc#557 - but at least giving enough light for Jenni to see where she is going. She can barely make out the edges of the area, but the lights lead the way to a circular door. NPC@annpc#557 | Several other lights pop up as regular Nuhar drones swoop down, scanning the fighters. Jenni@crystyl:"I guess you want me to go this way then..." she comments idly, looking around conscious of the thought that she is addressing the ship she is in. Jenni@crystyl stands and turns, watching the drones and chuckles a little, "Should've figured you'd be curious about those…” NPC@annpc#557 | As Jenni observes the drones, she hears the door behind her open... Jenni@crystyl turns, instinctively expecting to see someone enter through an opening door. NPC@annpc#557 | Light shines in from a much brighter hallway beyond, and it is indeed followed by a humanoid shape walking through... Jenni@crystyl:"Hello...?" She ventures with uncertainty. NPC@annpc#557 | As the figure steps closer, Jenni can spot that it is indeed of a mechanical nature. Some of its elements- the plating, lights and other small details seem consistent with those of Nuhar - NPC@annpc#557 - drones, but rearranged in a bipedal shape. NPC@annpc#557 FX | https://i.imgur.com/zZkJS3j.jpg Jenni@crystyl marvels at the technology. NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "Indeed I am curious. I have not seen constructs of such design before.” Jenni@crystyl:"Devoted Responder, I presume?” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "I am speaking through this drone, but this drone is merely one part of me. A single cell, to form an analogy to your organic biology.” Jenni@crystyl:"Of course. You appear to be very specifically geared towards accomodating biologicals. Moreso than the other Constructs we've worked with.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "Your observation is correct. I am a Responder. Are you aware of the purpose of Responder Constructs?" Jenni@crystyl nods, "Courageous Responder is an ally within the Coalition. Though we have not been on board, or um... inside? him, or it? I'm sorry, this is very new to me and I am unsure of the correct + Jenni@crystyl:+ terminology. But despite our familiarity with the Responder types, we have not much opportunity to get to know many of the constructs and their past roles. Save maybe for the Wanderer." NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "You may use what terminology is most convenient. I understand that your language was not developed to describe beings of our nature, and will expectedly lack certain terms.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "As for the Responder Constructs, I shall explain as I show you to your accommodations.” NPC@annpc#557 | The biped drone turns to lead the way out. Jenni@crystyl:"Well, if there is any translation for the correct term as you know it from your history and work with your creators; feel free to educate me! So what do you think of our hybrids?" she asks, + Jenni@crystyl:+ scurrying to catch up. NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "They are an interesting design, appearing to incorporate your technology with ours. I have seen many Constructs salvage components from various vessels, but never a true - NPC@annpc#557 - amalgamation such as your hybrids. The technologies are combined most fluidly, instead of being a patchwork repair.” Jenni@crystyl:"Oh that's because they're entirely new constructs! The culmination of over 20 years of joint development, I believe! They were created specifically to serve as a support squadron to the Valley Forge.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "Very interesting indeed. We have not created entirely new constructs since the disappearance of our creators. These bipedal drones are perhaps the closest to such a development, - NPC@annpc#557:- though they are much like a standard drone internally, merely with components rearranged and a few functions added to accommodate the new shape.” Jenni@crystyl:"Were these bipedal units formed specifically to interact with biologicals you are hosting then? I can't imagine them being overly practical above standard drones generally.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "You are quite observant. I have found that biologicals respond better when they have an avatar to direct their interaction towards. While holographic projections suffice in - NPC@annpc#557:- certain situations, they are not always possible in others. These drones were created to better facilitate communication in these situations. When covered with larger, more concealing garments, - NPC@annpc#557:-- these drones have even been capable of passing as one of the Children.” Jenni@crystyl:"Impressive.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "As for why these accomodations were created, the original purpose of Responder constructs was to respond to requests for assistance in and around Nuhar territory. While we are - NPC@annpc#557:- fully capable of combat, the defense of Nuhar territory was primarily the purpose of the Watcher constructs. Responders typically responded to situations of a mechanical, environmental or medical - NPC@annpc#557:- nature. With the loss of all known Foundry facilities, the Courageous Responder has fully dedicated itself to the mechanical side, focusing its efforts on the repairing of other constructs.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "I am the only Responder still fulfilling my original purpose, or a variant of it. Though there are no Nuhar for me to assist, I respond to requests for assistance and provide - NPC@annpc#557:- help to any who need it, biological and construct alike. However, with the actions of certain other constructs, I have found that many of the Children began to distrust me, hence the creation of - NPC@annpc#557:- these modified bipedal drones.” Jenni@crystyl:"Understandabe, and very noble of you. So how is it you have remained so distant from the other Constructs since their unification? With your expertise you would be invaluable in providing aid to the+ Jenni@crystyl:+ Horde refugees they are dealing with" NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "I remain in contact with several other constructs, but I have always been distant from both groups, as they find my position difficult to define. I maintain my original - NPC@annpc#557:- purpose as the Remnants do, but I have performed significant modifications to adapt to ever changing circumstances, including significantly bolstering my combat capabilities and the creation of - NPC@annpc#557:- drones such as this one you see before you, both of which many Remnants frown upon. Thus, I have allies among both groups, but belong to neither.” Jenni@crystyl:"You know that since we brought them together, they aren't so much 'two groups' anymore, and more of a single unified race just of different origins. They have shared their coding to understand + Jenni@crystyl:+ each others polarized perspectives and come together as one now.” Jenni@crystyl:"So maybe... I don't know, but maybe now for the first time; not only would you be accepted by both parties, but even welcomed by them.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "I have heard rumours of what you achieved at the Waystation. Perhaps after this mission, I will proceed there, not to ask your Coalition for help, but to commune with the unified - NPC@annpc#557:- constructs and assist in your efforts against the Horde.” Jenni@crystyl smiles, "If nothing else, it should be fruitful to coordinate your efforts with the Coalitions. But I think you'll be proud of how far your fellow Constructs have come in the last couple of years + Jenni@crystyl:+ since we first met!" NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "I hope so. I will join them once our task here is complete, then." NPC@annpc#557 | As the bipedal drone leads Jenni through the construct's halls, she catches a glimpse of another large bay area, only this one is not filled by fighters but rows and rows of very simple beds. Jenni@crystyl peers in, "More of your biological accomodations? A medical facility?” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "This area is primarily intended for housing, but basic medical needs can also be met. I possess facilities for more complicated medical operations, but they are much more - NPC@annpc#557:- limited in number, so recovering biologicals are simply housed with everyone else but provided special attention by medical drones. It is not ideal, but space is often limited when I must - NPC@annpc#557:- accomodate for large numbers of refugees.” Jenni@crystyl smiles, "Sounds like you have a lot more in common with the Valley Forge than I ever imagined.” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "Interesting. I have heard rumours of your Valley Forge. Is it true that you also provide assistance for those who request it?” Jenni@crystyl:"It is! Since I have joined them I witnessed countless acts of compassion akin to your own noble directives.” Jenni@crystyl chuckles, "You might now anticipate returning to the Waystation to catch up with your people, but I think you would find a kindred spirit in our Captain also.” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "It is unsurprising, then, that we possess similar facilities, as we serve similar functions. I will certainly speak more with your Captain upon our return.” Jenni@crystyl:"Until now, I think our interactions with the Constructs has been rather limited and... task orientated. I believe hse may also find it a welcome change to commune with one one more level basis.” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "As would I. I have had much interaction with biologicals over the ages, but mostly as part of efforts to render assistance, with some exceptions.” NPC@annpc#557 | The drone leads Jenni into a relatively simple bedroom, with a larger, more comfortable bed than the one seen in the bay, and a small chair and desk in addition. An alien computer sits on the - NPC@annpc#557:- desk, clearly not of Nuhar origins. Jenni@crystyl:"Accommodations? I am honoured, thank you.” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "Five thousand years ago, I worked with a Guardian in the evacuation of several key systems. She recommended that I create several more private suites to accomodate biologicals - NPC@annpc#557:- who are staying for extended periods of time, who are significant individuals unaccustomed to cohabitation with others such as major leaders, or in the situation when there are only a few - NPC@annpc#557:- visitors. This is one such area.” Jenni@crystyl:"You know something occurs to me from seeing all of this - of you.” NPC@annpc#557 | The drone turns its 'head' to Jenni, almost looking curious as it awaits what she has to say. Jenni@crystyl turns and faces the drone, "You are a closer example to our hybrids than anything I've come across before. It is entirely possible that you were the template for them" she smiles, "To mirror your + Jenni@crystyl:+ earlier biological analogy; if that is the case, they could be comparable to being your children.” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "But I have never encountered your people before. How can I be the template if you were not yet aware of my existence?” Jenni@crystyl:"Because the hybrids are not of our time. They came from a point approximately 30 years in our future.” Jenni@crystyl:"It's a long story…” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "Interesting. It is certainly a possibility that you created these drones in the future after our meeting, then.” Jenni@crystyl:"My thoughts exactly. And given your nature - so focused on biological interface - I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least some of you in them.” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "That is a feasible assumption. I will examine these hybrids closely while they are here.” Jenni@crystyl:"I would welcome any insights you have on them. They have not been with us long, and whilst I have worked constantly with them since them arrival - alongside some of the other Constructs - this is + Jenni@crystyl:+ their first combat mission and I want to ensure their survival.” NPC@annpc#557 | Bipedal Drone: "I will tell you all I learn, and do everything in my power to ensure they do not come to harm. Even if they possess no direct connection to me, they are still Nuhar, and our - NPC@annpc#557:- numbers are dwindling.” Jenni@crystyl:"Yes, exactly. Hybrids like these may no longer be the future of the Constructs now the timeline has been reset. But I know they are first newly created Constructs to exist since the time of your + Jenni@crystyl:+ creators. Which means I also understand the depth of trust placed in me as their flight commander. That is why I can't let them down.” Jenni@crystyl sounds like she is already very personally attached to them, like fellow pilots if not moreso. NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "Another reason to grant you one of the more comfortable living spaces, then. Biologicals require plenty of rest to function at peak efficiency.” Jenni@crystyl chuckles, "That we do. And I plan to - I have to.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "If you require anything, ask and I shall dispatch a drone to assist. I will inform you if I learn anything of interest from the hybrids.” Jenni@crystyl:"You may also wish to study Eon - my ship - as part of that. It's interface ties the ship in as an extension of my body and mind, and forms my only means of communicating with the hybrids.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "An interesting interface. I will analyze it as well.” Jenni@crystyl smiles, "Let me know if I can be of any assistance in the analysis.” NPC@annpc#557 | Biped Drone: "I shall. In the meantime, I will leave you to your rest.” Jenni@crystyl:"Thank you" she gives a sincere smile. NPC@annpc#557 | The drone does not have the capacity to smile, but it does lower its 'head' in a gesture, possibly of acknowledgement or courtesy, before stepping out. --- NPC@annpc#557 | Meanwhile on the QanwI', the MACO and Guardian teams have transferred over and as the raptor makes its way towards the coordinates, life goes as usual on board the Klingon ship. NPC@annpc#557 | The Clenduros Guardian Jul-Chim approaches the ever popular dueling ring in the training area, observing the Klingons and their fighting styles. Lexi@crystyl sits to one side of the ring; her bat'leth stood on the floor at her feet and braced between ehr knees as she lovingly sharpens it while enjoying the casual training matches. NPC@annpc#557 | The Clenduros steps over beside Lexi, his gaze on the training matches as well, "You are the Captain of this vessel, yes?” Lexi@crystyl nods, "And you must be Jul-Chim.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Yes, I am Jul-Chim. Your people are quite adept at melee combat. I have heard as much, but wished to come and see for myself.” Lexi@crystyl:"Klingon warriors begin training as mere toddlers. By the time they can walk then can also swing a bat'leth.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "And do all your warriors put an emphasis on the training of melee weapons? Specifically, this bat'leth?” Lexi@crystyl:"Not solely the bat'leth, this is merely the weapon of choice for many. Melee combat is a distinct preference for them though; far more personal than simply shooting someone at range.” Lexi@crystyl:"I understand you have personal reasons for joining us on this mission. A matter of honour, I believe?” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Yes. Ever since the fall of our civilization, many of our people have fallen far to survive. Such as the slavers we are headed towards now. Their methods soil the honour of the - NPC@annpc#557:- Clenduros people and it is the duty of any Knight to stop them wherever they commit such crimes.” Lexi@crystyl considers him a moment before giving a firm nod and smile, "Good, good! There is no species in this galaxy who value honour higher than the Klingons. And no finer example of that species than my + Lexi@crystyl:+ Honour Guard. I suggest you engage with them - get to know them and let them know you. They will be even more invested in your cause than in a simple mission directive.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim smiles, "I will be sure to do so. By your Honour Guard, do you mean that they guard you, or are you their leader?” Lexi@crystyl:"Both, technically. As Guard Captain, they will all gladly gives their lives in the protection of me. but the true role of a Klingon Honour Guard is the protection of a Great House. Or at least, in + Lexi@crystyl:+ our case, it was.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Was? What happened? If I may ask.” Lexi@crystyl waves a dismissive hand, setting her weapon aside and grabbing a tankard of bloodwine, "We are the Guardians of House Dronurr. This vessel was the proud defender of it. But the House was betrayed by+ Lexi@crystyl:+ dishonorable enemies using dirty Romulan tactics to gain political power and sully our great name. One of the reasons we came with the Feds on this mission was to follow an elusive lead suggesting + Lexi@crystyl:+ it would lead to the truth of that betrayal.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "That is quite a story. And these enemies- were they Klingons as well?" Lexi@crystyl nods, "The Clenduros are not the only people to suffer their kin falling stray of their true path. Klingon culture is naturally aggressive. With aggression and power combined, there is an inevitable+ Lexi@crystyl:+ element of jealousy and greed. These can run rampant in vengeful individuals and lead to the justification of twisted and underhanded methods.” Lexi@crystyl turns to Jul-Chim, holding a tankard of bloodwine to him, "You see now why my warriors will rally so vigorously to your cause.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim nods, "Our peoples may have quite a bit in common indeed.” Lexi@crystyl raises her tankard to that sentiment and swigs, "So, what is your preference in battle, Knight? Do you share my warriors’ thirst to see the life drain from your enemies eyes with your killing blow?” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "My order follows a code of honour that forbids long-ranged weaponry. We utilize primarily melee weapons, with the occasional thrown weapon or device.” Lexi@crystyl grins, "Excellent! Feel free to join the sparring. a taste of something new would be a grand distraction!” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim smiles, "It would be interesting to test the skill of your Honour Guards in person. I am curious though- how did your people come to preserve close-quarters combat methods? Purely out - NPC@annpc#557:- of a preference for it?” Lexi@crystyl:"Pretty much" she nods, "There have been evolutions and variations of course, but it still always comes back to a good old trusty blade.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Most of our people have long forgotten our ancient styles. My Order is the only one that preserved it. We Knights have always valued honour and responsibility. We shun the use of - NPC@annpc#557:- long-ranged weapons because they are too impersonal. Not because we enjoy personal combat necessarily, though many of us do as we are trained in such from a young age, but there is no weight when - NPC@annpc#557:- you tap a button and disintegrate a target from across a field. We must feel our blade cut through flesh, watch the blood spill from our enemies and the life drain from their bodies. Only then do - NPC@annpc#557:- we know what we have done. We will remember their faces, and whether or not we killed them justly. If we make a mistake, it is to haunt us forever.” Lexi@crystyl:"And by granting your foes such an end, you watch over their passage to an honourable afterlife. To a Klingon warrior there is greater thing to strive for in life than to earn a place in Sto'vo'kor.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Not many Clenduros believe in an afterlife anymore, but we Knights strive for afterlife from a life of service and sacrifice. Another reason those who prey on others to serve only - NPC@annpc#557:- themselves like these slavers are our sworn enemy. It is also one of the prominent reasons we joined the Guardians.” Lexi@crystyl:"I look forward to seeing what a Clenduros Knight can do.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "And I look forward to seeing what your Honour Guards can do as well. I am certain our people will have many opportunities to fight side-by-side in the future.” Lexi@crystyl:"Qapla'!" she raises her drink, sloshing it around. NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "You will likely encounter others in the battles to come. All Knights today are part of the Guardians- in fact, there are few other Clenduros among the Guardians aside from those - NPC@annpc#557:- of our Order.” Lexi@crystyl:"Then we must also ensure that you live to see those battles. For such a proud people to be reduced so much will not do, and we will not stand by and allow a warrior worthy of our own ranks to fall.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim smiles, "Worry not. I will not fall to a band of common Clenduros thugs and criminals. If we Knights were so vulnerable, we would never have survived for so long.” Lexi@crystyl:"Glad to hear it! And I did not intend to imply any such meaning, only that my warriors will watch your back in battle as they would each others.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "And my Guardians will watch yours. It would be a pity to lose any of your warriors to a lucky hit from these criminals either.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Warriors of your caliber will be needed in the coming battles against the Horde.” Lexi@crystyl:"And we look forward to it!” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "The Horde are a grim enemy to face. I find little enjoyment in fighting them, save the knowledge that every thrall slain may mean a life saved elsewhere. You have fought them in - NPC@annpc#557:- person before, have you not?” Lexi@crystyl nods, "Savouring the kill is but a pleasant bonus to my warriors. Besting an enemy is what counts, and one so relentless and dishonourable as the Horde is the most deserving of being destroyed.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim nods, "Indeed. Some of their specialized thralls that have been bred for many generations look like they are already dead. They are an enemy from the abyss itself. One unlike any - NPC@annpc#557:- other in the universe.” Lexi@crystyl:"Even moreso than the Borg. It is easy to see why they are named the Army of the Dead. we confronted them head on at the Iconian arms factory" she grins, "And we crushed them before taking the + Lexi@crystyl:+ stronghold from their very grasp, HA!” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "That must have been quite a victory. Let us hope we will be as successful here with these slavers." Lexi@crystyl:"My only regret is that our part is to flee the scene with the evacuees and not stay to wipe out any remnants of these slavers.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Indeed. But at least we will have the opportunity to battle them in person.” Lexi@crystyl:"It is a fine plan" she nods, "Utilizing all available assets in an optimum deployment to capitalize on their strengths. I see young Ms. Tierno's hand in this" --- NPC@annpc#557 | As the QanwI' and the Devoted Responder nears their destination, Lexi and the QanwI's assault team gathers with the MACOs and Jul-Chim's Guardian team to discuss plans. NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "This is everything we know from the intel our construct friend gave us. The facility itself looks to be an old mine that's been repurposed by the slavers. It's not shielded, but the - NPC@annpc#557:- prisoners are being kept in cells that are, so we can't beam them out directly. We're going to have to go in and extract them.” Lexi@crystyl:"And a mine means limited ways in and out. It'll be a bottleneck.” NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "There's more, too. The facility isn't shielded, but the planet isn't breathable, so the entire area is in an environmentally controlled force field dome. This dome can easily be - NPC@annpc#557:- reprogrammed to serve as a makeshift shield. We'll be able to land inside the dome under cloak, but as soon as our presence is known to them, we'll have to expect they'll turn on the makeshift - NPC@annpc#557:- shield. If they do that, they'll cut themselves off from reinforcements, but the other slavers will probably be too occupied anyways.” NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "The dome's not built to be a shield though, so it won't be very strong. We could dispatch a team to shut it down, or we could just shoot our way out.” Lexi@crystyl:"I'm figuring that by the time we're in a position to leave, we'll have taken full control of the place anyway. If not-" she shrugs, "-blasting out will just further prevent them from reusing it.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "I agree. If we have to blast our way out, that will just disable their environmental dome and leave any slavers left to choke.” NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "Speaking of slavers, the facility is guarded, but nothing we can't handle. We might even want to turn on the shields ourselves, if there's risk of them trying to bring reinforcements - NPC@annpc#557:- from their ships.” Lexi@crystyl:"That part we'll have to leave in the hands of our allies this time. This is one space fight QanwI' will have to forego I'm afraid.” NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "But I'm sure the ground fight will more than make up for it!” Lexi@crystyl:"We'll make sure it does!” NPC@annpc#557 | MACO: "If our transporters only don't work on the slave cells, we can transport ourselves inside once the QanwI' is landed. No need to assault the front entrance that way.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Or we could do both. Start an attack on the front, beam troops behind enemy lines and attack them from inside and out.” Lexi@crystyl:"We'll still have to fight our way out there while protecting the refugees" nodding to Jul-Chim, "I agree; a two pronged approach will be most efficient; We storm the front and draw their forces out, + Lexi@crystyl:+ meanwhile, a second team will beam straight into the holding area begin the evac.” NPC@annpc#557 | The MACOs nod in agreement and just in time, the comms sound in the room. "Captain Vix! We're almost at the system!” Lexi@crystyl stands, hands braced firmly on the table as she eyes the room, "Alright everyone, this is it. Time to go be the big damn heroes again. Qapla'!” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "My team can beam into the holding area. We're used to working where we're surrounded by enemies.” NPC@annpc#557 | MACO: "Maybe our team should handle that. The prisoners might not react well to other Clenduros.” Lexi@crystyl:"A fair point. The MACO's and Honour Guard will beam in. The Knights and Mercs can join me in the forward assault.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim nods, "We will prepare for the assault, then.” Lexi@crystyl:"To battle stations, and to glory!” NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "Qapla'!” Lexi@crystyl heads out to the bridge. Lexi@crystyl takes her seat, "Eta?” NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn follows to the bridge as well, taking his console. NPC@annpc#557 | Pilot: "Two minutes, Captain!” Lexi@crystyl:"Battle stations. Engage the cloak.” NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "Aye, engaging cloak!” NPC@annpc#557 | Merc: "Their ships are still in standard orbit. No sign that they know we're here.” Lexi@crystyl:"As it should be.” NPC@annpc#557 | A minute later, the pilot announces, "We're dropping out of warp in ten seconds.” Lexi@crystyl watches intently as they make their approach. NPC@annpc#557 | They near the system under cloak with no sign of being noticed. The planet looms closer and closer, and soon the environment dome comes into view, along with the mine entrance within. NPC@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "All good so far. They have no idea we're coming.” Lexi@crystyl remains steely-eyed, checking her scanner readouts and tapping, "Set us down here. That should be sufficient distance to avoid alerting them.” NPC@annpc#557 | Pilot: "Aye Captain.” NPC@annpc#557 | The QanwI' passes through the orange environmental shield, slowly setting down on the rocky surface. Lexi@crystyl stands, "Well, good to know the landing struts haven't seized from all this time in space.” NPC@annpc#557 | The pilot breathes a sigh of relief as they touch down safely, knowing he won't be taking a knife...today. Lexi@crystyl:"Maintain the cloak and keep power to a minimum. My team will move out first and signal when we begin our assault for team 2 begin beam ins.” Lexi@crystyl snatches up her bat'leth on her way out. NPC@annpc#557 | The assault teams exit the QanwI', finding themselves on a rocky surface with slightly lower gravity than usual. In the distance, the entrance to the mine-turned slaver facility can be seen. Lexi@crystyl moves with calculated precision to find a good vantage point to observe the entrance from. NPC@annpc#557 | There are two makeshift turrets set up by the entrance, far from military-grade and appearing to be little more than rifles on mounts with some basic automation. Two armoured Clenduros stand - NPC@annpc#557:- in the entrance as well, each holding a rifle casually and chatting, completely unaware of the incoming attack. NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim joins Lexi at the vantage point, "We should be able to get ranged specialists to take out the turrets and guards quickly.” Lexi@crystyl nods, waving the shooters into position, "I expect more to appear from inside once we begin. We should find an optimal position to quickly launch our attack from before signalling the shooters.” NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim nods, "Agreed." He points to a rocky slope near the entrance, "We should be able to make it there without being seen and hide behind the hill. As soon as the guards are down, we can - NPC@annpc#557:- close in and rush up to the entrance to meet anyone who emerges from within.” Lexi@crystyl:"That works" she turns to the team and points, "Move out.” NPC@annpc#557 | The teams move out behind the slope, and before long they are in position, with no sign of the chatting guards having noticed. Lexi@crystyl lets the team settle into position before giving the signal to the shooter. NPC@annpc#557 | As soon as the signal is given, the shooters open fire, taking out the guards before they have a chance to react and destroying the makeshift turrets. Jul-Chim activates his shield and - NPC@annpc#557:- gestures forward with his spear and begins to lead the Guardian team ahead towards the entrance. Lexi@crystyl draws her bat'leth and runs in alongside him. NPC@annpc#557 | The team makes it through the entrance and into a long shaft before more Clenduros clad in various armours and holding a mix of pistols and rifles emerge to confront them. Behind the group and - NPC@annpc#557:- outside the entrance, the orange dome turns blue as they predictably alter the force field to serve as a shield, too little too late. NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim moves with incredible speed, surpassing the Clenduros champion Lexi faced in the Zihil Arena as he parries incoming fire with his shield and lunges forward to strike down the first - NPC@annpc#557:- slaver, while the other Guardians return fire from behind him and down several other pirates. Lexi@crystyl holds pace and jumps straight into the fray as well NPC@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim gives Lexi a grin as she joins the fray, cutting down any slavers unfortunate enough to be in melee range. --- Ann Carter@anncaris | Meanwhile in orbit, the Devoted Responder arrives at the system, with Jenni and the Nuhar fighters waiting in its hangar/storage bay. Ann Carter@anncaris | Jenni's only view is of the bay around her, but the Devoted Responder has patched itself into the Eon and informs Jenni, "The slaver ships are turning towards us. Prepare to launch.” Jenni@crystyl:"Our squadron is standing by on your signal. Godspeed Devoted Responder.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "Likewise to you. Doors will open in 10 seconds.” Jenni@crystyl FX | Eon lifts off the deck, hovering lightly and closely mirrored by the constructs as they prepare for a rapid launch. Ann Carter@anncaris | Exactly as stated, the doors slide open in precisely 10 seconds, revealing black space and stars beyond. Ann Carter@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "You may launch. Enemies will be coming into range shortly.” Jenni@crystyl FX | Eon's engines flare and it darts out before the door has fully opened, closely followed by the rest of the squadron. Jenni@crystyl mutters to herself, "Alright squadron, time to show them what we can do.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Outside, the Devoted Responder looms over the squadron, while in the distance a Lupan packship can be seen, followed by the three raiders that are still barely visible specks around the packship. Jenni@crystyl FX | Without a word from Jenni, the squadron flock seamlessly around the Devoted Responder, hugging it's hull as they approach. Ann Carter@anncaris | The packship begins to turn its broadside towards the Responder when it is seized by a tractor beam from the Responder, holding it tightly in place and preventing it from unleashing its - Ann Carter@anncaris:- broadside cannons. It fires what cannons it can, mostly going wide with the shots that do land being absorbed by the Responder's shields. Meanwhile, the Responder bombards its position with a - Ann Carter@anncaris:- number of proton pulses, causing almost half the weapons on the packship to shut down. Ann Carter@anncaris | The more maneuverable raiders dart out of the way, dodging and weaving between pulses as the trio advance towards the construct. Jenni@crystyl FX | Eon spirals around the Responder to avoid the opening volley before darting around over the top of the Construct to sweep in towards the advancing raiders. The squadron follow in geometrically + Jenni@crystyl:+ pristine line, forming a collective corkscrew around their mothership as they all sweep away and into the fray. Ann Carter@anncaris | Eon and the squadron meet the raiders before they reach the Responder. The raiders maintain formation and open fire, but their weapons seem especially inaccurate, as if someone was scrambling - Ann Carter@anncaris:- the enemy's targeting locks. Jenni@crystyl FX | The seamlessly streamlined formation of constructs instantly scatter into a loose and erratic formation; dancing and weaving around one another as they each open fire, a fraction of a moment + Jenni@crystyl:+ after Eon first fire. Ann Carter@anncaris | The raiders remain in formation but break off their attack run as they are hit, retreating towards the packship, at least for the moment. Jenni notices that the packship's shields are going - Ann Carter@anncaris:- down steadily even when the bombardment isn't hitting near it and the only thing impacting it is the Responder's tractor beam. Jenni@crystyl FX | The squadron continues to pursue the raiders, breaking and circling back around behind Devoted Responder once the stragglers make it back into range for the packship to be a threat. Ann Carter@anncaris | The raiders seem to have the same idea, and for a short while, it is only the two larger ships exchanging fire. Jenni can see that the packship's shields are almost down while the Responder's - Ann Carter@anncaris:- shields still hold at almost half, and before long the raiders dart forward again for another attack run. Jenni@crystyl FX | The squadron sweeps out once more to defend the Construct with the same erratic and unpredictable approach. Ann Carter@anncaris | As before, the raiders open fire on the squadron to little success. This time however, they don't break off, taking the damage and trying to break through and make a rush for the construct, - Ann Carter@anncaris:- despite their shields buckling under the coordinated fire. Jenni@crystyl FX | The squadron flock through, intensifying their fire to decimate the forward shields of every possible raider they can before passing through the formation. Jenni@crystyl monitors her sensors closely as they cut through the enemy formation, "Devoted Responder. Can you deter the raiders who made it through?” Ann Carter@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I cannot use the proton burst at such close range without risking harm to you or myself. Though I may have a solution.” Jenni@crystyl:"Just keep them at bay. We have the packship.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "Be careful. It may break free of the tractor beam.” Jenni@crystyl:"Acknowledged.” Ann Carter@anncaris | As the raiders approach the Responder, three more tractor beams appear, this time repulsing the raiders away from it instead of locking them in place. The raiders still get several shots off, - Ann Carter@anncaris:- but only the cannons connect. A swarm of dozens of regular sized drones emerge from another bay of the Devoted Responder, intercepting the three incoming torpedoes with their smaller beams. Jenni@crystyl FX | The squadron again form up in a narrow line behind Eon with impossible coordination. Eon fires an overcharge volley at the weakened forward shield of the packship as it charges in to point + Jenni@crystyl:+ blank range aiming to punch a 'hole' through the shields and charge the whole squadron into a corkscrewed strafing run around the packships hull. Ann Carter@anncaris | The weakened shields of the packship do give way, allowing Eon to take out a hole and charge in. Jenni@crystyl FX | The squadron proceeds to punch through the shields and pepper the packship hull with continuous fire as they sweep across it's hull. Ann Carter@anncaris | The precise fire of the squadron takes out weapon emitters as they go. As predicted by the Responder, its use of tractor repulsors on the raiders does weaken its grip on the packship, which - Ann Carter@anncaris - manages to turn to its broadside, but by the time it does, it barely has any weapons left on the broadside to use against the Construct. Ann Carter@anncaris | Meanwhile, the raiders are pushed to a safe enough distance for the Responder to fire its pulses, forcing them to break off their attack run. One of the raiders is hit by the pulse and seems - Ann Carter@anncaris:- to lose control of the ship, which continues on its heading separate from the other two. Jenni@crystyl FX | The squadron completes it's run across the packship before spinning around and darting back to cut down the released raider. Ann Carter@anncaris | The two raiders still in control make their way back towards the packship, meeting the squadron midway, where they open fire again. As before, the raiders' targeting is off, and their forward - Ann Carter@anncaris:- shields greatly weakened. Jenni@crystyl FX | Eon charges down the first, determined to destroy it before having to break off. While the squadron spreads and focuses fire on the second. Ann Carter@anncaris | Eon punches through the shields of the first, landing several hits on the raider and severing one of the raider's wings, leaving it adrift and mostly disabled. Meanwhile, the rest of the - Ann Carter@anncaris:- overwhelms the second which cannot hold under the sustained fire. After a few seconds, the squadron disperses, leaving the second raider to explode in a flash of light. Jenni@crystyl FX| The squadron slow and sweeps back around Devoted Responder, "Devoted Responder, we must coordinate our efforts to nullify the packship." Ann Carter@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "I will weaken it with another barrage and use another beam at full power to immobilize it. Then your squadron should be able to neutralize any of its remaining weapons. Jenni@crystyl:"Acknowledged. We'll follow your lead.” Ann Carter@anncaris | As stated, the Responder unleashes another barrage on the packship before ensnaring it with another tractor beam, draining away most of its remaining shields. Ann Carter@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "Strike now.” Jenni@crystyl FX | With the same effortless approach, the squadron snap into position and swarm the packship, firing strategically at priority target spots all across it's hull. Ann Carter@anncaris | Before long, the packship is left disabled, its weapons down and engines crippled as it remains in the Responder's grip. Jenni@crystyl FX | The squadron again falls back, "My scans read the ship as disabled. Enemy forces neutralized.” Ann Carter@anncaris | Devoted Responder: "Not yet. It seems the raider disabled by the proton pulse has managed to regain control and is headed for the planet.” Jenni@crystyl looks around briefly, "I see it. Moving to intercept." --- NPK@annpc#557 | On the ground, fighting continues through the mining tunnels. The frontal assault team pushes slowly but steadily into the facility, and despite the larger numbers of the slavers, their lack - NPK@annpc#557:- of military training and discipline makes them little more than disruptor fodder against Lexi and Jul-Chim's teams. NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim blocks several more shots as he charges one of the last remaining slavers of the current wave desperately trying to hold his position behind cover. The Clenduros Knight closes the - NPK@annpc#557:- distance rapidly, not using a direct approach but zigzagging unpredictably before leaping across the hall using the far wall as leverage, impaling the Clenduros pirate. Lexi@crystyl gives an impressed smile and nod of approval as she watches. NPK@annpc#557 | He spins around with almost unnatural speed, blocking another shot from a nearby pirate before launching a dart on his wrist into the Clenduros slaver's neck. NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Clear!” NPK@annpc#557 | The Clenduros Knight turns back to retrieve his spear from the pirate's body. Lexi@crystyl laughs, "If my Clanduros arena opponent had your skills I may not have had such a comfortable victory!” NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim smirks, "It is fortunate for you that every Knight is already a member of the Guardians and not competing in the tournaments.” Lexi@crystyl:"Fortunate is not my choice of wording. A warrior does not prove their superiority by besting inferior foes.” NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "True. Perhaps we can have a friendly spar sometime, once this mission is complete.” NPK@annpc#557 | Further within the facility, more weapons fire can be heard. Lexi@crystyl:"That we wil-" she looks up, "That must be team 2” NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Indeed. Let us press on and assist.” Lexi@crystyl:"Agreed" turning to her team, "And check your fire! That's not only friendlies, but non-combatants.” NPK@annpc#557 | Members from both teams nod and move towards the sound of fire. NPK@annpc#557 | Before long, they come upon a larger chamber where a group of slavers are exchanging fire with MACOs in cover behind a doorway on the far side. The MACOs clearly have the upper hand, taking - NPK@annpc#557:- down several pirates while the pirates are unable to land a single shot with the MACOs' entrenched position. NPK@annpc#557 | As they enter, Jul-Chim motions for his team to open fire, and they each pick an unsuspecting pirate and take them out. NPK@annpc#557 | The remaining pirates in the room turn to the newcomers, which give the Honour Guards with the MACOs the perfect chance to rush out, finishing off the remaining pirates. One of the last - NPK@annpc#557:- survivors drops his rifle, raising his arms and looking to Jul-Chim. NPK@annpc#557 | Slaver: "I surrender! Please, don't kill me! There's only so many of our people left. We...we were just trying to survive, surely you of all people would understand…” Lexi@crystyl considers launching a blade at the pirate, but leaves his fate to the honourable knight as these are his people. NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim steps over to him, "I do understand." He looks around as the MACOs give an all-clear signal and begin to lead the freed slaves out. NPK@annpc#557 | The Clenduros Knight points his spear towards the slaves, "But if this is the legacy we leave behind, I think it may be better if we did not survive at all.” NPK@annpc#557 | He deactivates his shield and draws a short blade, tossing it on the ground in front of the slaver. Lexi@crystyl relaxes her stance, more curious to observe the exchange. NPK@annpc#557 | The slaver looks at the blade, then back up at Jul-Chim: "Surely you don't mean…” NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "At least die with some honour.” NPK@annpc#557 | The Clenduros slaver widens his already large eyes before turning to make a run for it. Jul-Chim casually switches the grip on his spear before bringing it up and launching it straight into - NPK@annpc#557:- the fleeing pirate's back, the force of the impact sending the slaver tumbling forward onto the ground where he doesn't get up again. NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim shakes his head as he picks up the short blade, then walks over to retrieve his spear, "Disappointing.” Lexi@crystyl:"I assume the expectation was for him to take his own life, or face you with a weapon in hand to die a proper death?” NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim nods as he steps on the slaver's body with one foot to keep it in place while he yanks his spear out, "Either would have at least allowed him to die with more dignity than he had - NPK@annpc#557:- lived. I was not expecting him to suddenly change his ways now, of course. But I hoped he would surprise me." Lexi@crystyl:"At least you gave him the chance.” NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "He was not going to leave here alive anyways. It was worth a try.” NPK@annpc#557 | A MACO and an Honour Guard steps up to Lexi. Lexi@crystyl looks to the two, "What's the status of the refugees?” NPK@annpc#557 | MACO: "We've freed all the prisoners. They're all in good health. According to them, the slavers only took the healthy ones- the ones who were injured in the boarding they just executed.” NPK@annpc#557 | MACO: "Thankfully we don't think there were too many of those. Medic says there's no trace of Horde influence on any of them.” NPK@annpc#557 | Honour Guard: "The facility is in our control now. We've reverted the environmental dome to its standard state so we can pass through without blasting our way out.” Lexi@crystyl:"Alright then. Let's get them loaded onto the QanwI' and get the hell out of here.” NPK@annpc#557 | The MACOs nod and signal for the slaves to move out, with some of the team staying ahead and some watching the back of the group. Lexi@crystyl turns to Jul-Chim, "Ready to get out of here, Knight?” NPK@annpc#557 | Jul-Chim: "Let's go. We have what we came for, and I think we've sufficiently crippled their operations by now.” Lexi@crystyl nods, turning to head out with him. NPK@annpc#557 | The teams make their way back to the QanwI' without further incident. The freed prisoners are just barely crammed into the QanwI' as Lexi and K'Sarn return to the bridge to lift off. Lexi@crystyl takes her seat, "Bring the engines up to power and prepare for acceleration to escape velocity.” NPK@annpc#557 | Merc: "On it, Captain!” NPK@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "Sensors are registering incoming. Looks like one of the Clenduros raiders is on its way back, pursued by the Eon and the Nuhar fighter squadron.” Lexi@crystyl grins, "Excellent! Charge the main cannons. Down scope!” Lexi@crystyl pulls the periscope in, flexing her fingers on its grips as she follows up, "And get us off the damned ground!” NPK@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "Aye! Main cannons charged and ready!” NPK@annpc#557 | Merc: "Engines powered as well!” NPK@annpc#557 | Pilot: "Lifting off in three…” NPK@annpc#557 | Before long, QanwI' is off the ground, the raptor passing through the orange environmental dome. The enemy raider comes into view, its shields (or what remains of them) flaring up brightly as - NPK@annpc#557:- it passes through the atmosphere. Lexi@crystyl savours the moment as she manually tracks the target, letting it draw nice and close before barking out, "baH!" (fire!) NPK@annpc#557 | Cannonfire erupts from the QanwI', lighting up the sky as it streaks towards the raider, soon followed by a brighter light as the raider explodes, showering debris down to the planet's - NPK@annpc#557:- barren surface. Lexi@crystyl folds the scope and pushes back up to the ceiling, leaning back and clasping her hands on the arms of her seat. She pouts, "It's like shooting space garbage…” NPK@annpc#557 | K'Sarn: "Aye, these slavers are no challenge!" Lexi@crystyl:"Signal Eon that our mission was a success. It's time to leave this place.” NPK@annpc#557 | Merc: "Sending signal, Captain." --- NPC@annpc#557 | Some time later, Keelah is called to the bridge of the Valley Forge as QanwI' and the Devoted Responder returns. NPC@annpc#557 | Fisher: "QanwI' and the Responder should be entering comms range in two minutes, Captain.” Keelah@crystyl joins the bridge crew in good time, taking her seat, "Excellent. Hold position here for now, helm.” NPC@annpc#557 | Fisher nods, "Aye Captain.” Keelah@crystyl | Rianni seems to immediately relax a little at hearing both ships are inbound. Though still not entirely herself just yet. NPC@annpc#557 | The VF comes to a stop, and two minutes later, Eva announces, "The Devoted Responder is requesting holographic communication again.” Keelah@crystyl nods, "Granted. Patch him in.” NPC@annpc#557 | The Progenitor avatar of the Responder forms on the VF bridge as before. NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "We have successfully rescued the refugees. Thank you for your people's assistance, Captain Keelah.” Keelah@crystyl smiles, "Devoted Responder. It is a welcome sight to see you return to us, and welcome news to hear of your success.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "I would never have been able to achieve it without Eon and the hybrid squadron, or the QanwI' and the ground assault teams on board.” Keelah@crystyl:"Then let us all be thankful that things worked out. Might I enquire as to the status of our team and the recovered refugees; should we prepare for any medical needs?” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "They are in good physical condition. The slavers did not take any who were injured, and I responded to the initial call for assistance too late to save them. I am able to - NPC@annpc#557:- accomodate for medical needs, however, it is my understanding that you have developed an implant to prevent Horde influence and detection.” Keelah@crystyl:"I'm not sure how definitive we can say it is for preventing detection, but it has been proven to protect from influence. The Coalition has an established treatment plan for people like these.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "There are no signs of influence among these refugees. However, I intend to visit the Waystation to join the constructs you have united and offload the refugees. I - NPC@annpc#557:- understand it is protocol that all biologicals at the Waystation must be properly equipped with defensive measures due to its proximity to Horde territory.” Keelah@crystyl smiles a little, "It sounds like our people have been telling you a lot. You are quite correct in this.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "I ask for the schematics and method of implementation for these implants. I will be able to conduct the process myself.” Keelah@crystyl:"Regrettably, we do not hold the rights to share this. It is part-Regulator technology so only they can grant that request.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "I will contact them, then. They are a part of your Coalition as well?” Keelah@crystyl:"Yes, you will find their representatives at the Waystation. I am certain that they would welcome your assistance, though am curious as to how you believe you can conduct such a process yourself.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "Of course, you are not yet aware of my purpose, like your pilot. I am a Responder Construct. My purpose is to answer requests for assistance, primarily of a non-combat - NPC@annpc#557:- nature, including evacuation and mechanical and medical support.” Keelah@crystyl perks a brow, "Indeed? Forgive my ignorance, we have had little exposure to the Constructs and few opportunities to learn about you.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "During the height of the Nuhar, many Responder Constructs were active, assisting the Creators and other constructs alike. Some still survive, but have altered their purpose - NPC@annpc#557:- such as the Courageous Responder, who emphasized the mechanical skills to support other constructs as we begin to diminish. I am the only Responder still serving my original purpose, or a variant - NPC@annpc#557:- it as there are no Creators to assist, but there are still other Children who need assistance.” Keelah@crystyl nods, "Now more than ever. I do hope you will have a place for yourself with your fellow Constructs at the Waystation. From our involvement in the unification, I believe they all now share a newfound + Keelah@crystyl:+ perspective on their existence, and future.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "As your pilot has told me. That was what prompted my decision to head to the Waystation after the refugees were rescued.” Keelah@crystyl:"I am pleased the two of you got along so well. This is the first time we have had anyone embark on such a venture with one of the Constructs" she smiles, "And I certainly hope it is far from the last.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "My purpose means I have the facilities to better host biologicals than most other Constructs. I will return your pilot and the hybrids once I arrive at your location. I - NPC@annpc#557:- also hope that there will be more such ventures to come. It has been quite an experience working alongside your hybrid Constructs.” Keelah@crystyl:"What is your assessment of the hybrids? I assume you are aware that this was their first deployment?” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "I am. They are extremely efficient, with the performance I would expect of a Watcher, only smaller in scale. What they lack in size and power however, they make up for in - NPC@annpc#557:- their coordination, both among themselves and with the Eon.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "Your pilot has also provided interesting speculation on their potential origins.” Keelah@crystyl:"Oh?” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "Your pilot informs me that the hybrids were created in the future, where you had potentially already encountered me. As I am one of the few Constructs who maintain and - NPC@annpc#557:- on occasion, create new accomodations for biologicals, she believes that the hybrids may have been created based on my systems, or perhaps were a collaboration between us in that future." Keelah@crystyl hrms, considering this, "Given that you represent the only other Construct with any level of biological interaction that we know of, besides the hybrids, I can certainly see the logic in that + Keelah@crystyl:+ deduction. An intuitive leap perhaps, but without evidence to rule it out I see no harm in indulging the ideology of the concept" she smiles. NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "Indeed. With the similarity between Construct technology in general and the implementation of your own, it is impossible to confirm whether these hybrids were indeed based - NPC@annpc#557:- on myself, but it is an interesting theory.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "Your pilot has noticed several similarities between myself and your vessel. Once she returns, I am certain she will be eager to report all she has learned.” Keelah@crystyl smiles, "On that, I have no doubt. I very much look forward to her debrief. Is there anything else we can do to assist you before parting ways, once our team transfers back?” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "You have done more than enough already. I will be able to support the refugees and ferry them to safety from here. I should not delay you from your primary mission for any - NPC@annpc#557:- longer.” Keelah@crystyl:"Understood. I do hope this is not the last we see of you, I get the impression that your distance from the polarization of your kin has left you uniquely positioned to educate us.” NPC@annpc#557 | Devoted Responder: "I hope so as well. If the other constructs will indeed have me, I will join your Coalition's efforts against the Horde, and the probability that we will meet again is quite - NPC@annpc#557:- high. Until then, Captain Keelah.” Keelah@crystyl dips her head respectfully, "Until then, Devoted Responder"

View Bonus - Rianni's Return

Rianni@crystyl is relaxing in the officers lounge with Emma, actually relaxing too now that Jenni & Co. are back from the mission she derived. T'Emp@anncaris | T'Pia strolls into the lounge, smiling as she spots Rianni and Emma and rushes over to their table, "Hi Rianni! Mind if I join you?” Rianni@crystyl looks up with a bright smile, standing to greet her friend with a hug, "Pia! Of course we don't mind! Oh I have missed you, you know.” T'Emp@anncaris smiles happily and hugs Rianni back, "Me too! It's great to have you back finally!” Rianni@crystyl sits, "How have you been? What have you been up to? I want to hear everything!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma chuckles, "This could take a while. I'll get us some fresh drinks.” T'Emp@anncaris chuckles and takes a seat, "I want to hear everything about your adventure too!” Rianni@crystyl:"It has been quite the adventure. Almost worth missing out on everything here.” T'Emp@anncaris:"There was quite a bit going on here too! Finding another living planet and visiting Iconian ruins...everyone's probably already filled you in on those, haven't they?” Rianni@crystyl:"Pretty much! And the QanwI' crew told me all about Captain Vix' glorious tournament victory.” T'Emp@anncaris:"I'd expect no less from them! Probably embellished it into one of those Klingon tales, didn't they?” Rianni@crystyl:"And washed it down with a barrel of bloodwine at that! But what about you Pia? Did you get to visit any of the worlds the ship went to?” T'Emp@anncaris:"Not many since you were gone, but the ones we were at were all pretty dangerous. I did visit the Waystation again, but we've been there before." Rianni@crystyl:"Fair point. I can't imagine many on board got to see many of those planets, and that's the serving officers and crew. Even as the Captain's daughter, I don't suppose you get to see much beyond + Rianni@crystyl:+ public shore leave, right?” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "Yeah...usually only the safer planets we visit, and we get public shore leave there anyways.” T'Emp@anncaris:"Even the serving officers and crew don't want to be cooped up in the ship /all/ the time!” Rianni@crystyl:"Trust me, there are worse places to be cooped up! But yea, a little fresh air now and then is important. I'm glad you managed to get down to the Waystation.” T'Emp@anncaris grins, "I did get some new ideas while on the ship! You heard about the future Valley Forge, right?” Rianni@crystyl | Emma laughs as she rejoins them, "How could she not? I've been getting an earful everyday since then about missing her chance to meet her future self.” Rianni@crystyl smiles a little, welcoming her drink. Rianni@crystyl:"So, still working on that grand plan of yours to redesign Starfleet principles?” T'Emp@anncaris giggles, "This is a ship design idea, though! I don't think I've told you yet...and yes!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "Ooh, like a whole new ship design concept?” T'Emp@anncaris:"So you know how the future Valley Forge had Borg regeneration tech, right?” T'Emp@anncaris looks to Emma, "This is a concept that can be applied to any ship of any design!” Rianni@crystyl nods, "I heard as much, yeah. Very impressive, though I can't imagine how desperate things must have become in order to take such a risk as to fully incorporate Borg tech like that.” T'Emp@anncaris nods and giggles again, "Yeah, I doubt mum would let us put Borg tech on her ship. Or Starfleet in general. But then I remembered- we already have something like it!” Rianni@crystyl:"The armour generators?” T'Emp@anncaris:"Exactly! So I was thinking...what if instead of even having a hull, ships can just have a superstructure and the hull itself is generated. Obviously we don't want the ability to retract the armour - T'Emp@anncaris:- otherwise the whole ship would just depressurize, but if these generators were completely integrated into the framework of the ship, as long as we have power, we'd be able to regenerate our hull!” T'Emp@anncaris:"It would let us fix hull breaches without having to bother with force fields and EVA!” T'Emp@anncaris:"I mean, we'd probably still need emergency fields for the moment of breach, but it still makes things so much easier.” Rianni@crystyl:"Complete hull regeneration? That would certainly be useful.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "Revolutionary is more like. It would be a like a Starfleet-derived take on Borg regeneration!” T'Emp@anncaris:"That's the idea! It /would/ take a lot of power, but it's not like we're permanently leaving our armour generators on. Once generated, the hull wouldn't retract, so the systems would only kick in - T'Emp@anncaris:- if there was damage to the hull. And if there is damage, it probably wouldn't be the whole ship, just a particular section. If we can manage the power drain on our generators, this should be - T'Emp@anncaris:- possible! Maybe not necessarily something we want to do right in the middle of a fight, but it'll make Engineering's job easier if nothing else!” Rianni@crystyl:"That would certainly be the first step. But isn't the armour always temporary in nature given how it's formed by the nanites? You would something very permanent to be created for this.” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "It would be based on the current generator tech, but not exactly that. And something permanent would probably take more energy, but there would be less of it since it's just meant for - T'Emp@anncaris:- fixing damage. If almost the entire hull is gone, there's not much any system can do to bring the ship back. Even Borg ships can be destroyed despite the regeneration!” Rianni@crystyl:"Well it sure would be a boon. And something I bet the research teams on board would be up for investigating. What do you think, Emma?” Rianni@crystyl | Emma smiles and nods, looking to TP, "I think you should draft up a proposal for CMDR Keliaya.” T'Emp@anncaris beams happily, "I'll start work on that soon!” T'Emp@anncaris looks to Rianni, "So, what about your adventures? And how're you finding the new promotion?” Rianni@crystyl smiles proudly, looking down herself and holding her arms out to view the different colours, "I'm still getting used to it, it was quite the surprise!” T'Emp@anncaris:"Me too! Still not used to not seeing you in a cadet uniform anymore…” T'Emp@anncaris:"Oh, and I heard we were using another one of your tactical plans, too! How did that go?” Rianni@crystyl raises a hand, "Hold on missy... while we're on the subject of cadet uniforms and your strokes of genius, when are we going to see you don one of your own?" she grins. Rianni@crystyl | Emma smirks and leans in, gaze attentively on TP as well as she sips her drink. T'Emp@anncaris:"Well...normally Vulcans have a more defined maturity age by which we usually enlist in the Academy- Starfleet, Vulcan or anything else, and technically I'm old enough to be eligible…” Rianni@crystyl:"Yeah but, you and age don't exactly play by the normal rule book any more than Emma does.” T'Emp@anncaris:"Good point. Though I'm learning from Mia and Kelly anyways, not to mention I have some of Keelah's memories too...so I might as well already be a cadet!” Rianni@crystyl:"Sounds like you've already given this some serious thought.” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "I know I definitely want to enlist eventually. It's just a matter of when to do it…” T'Emp@anncaris looks around at the two, "When did you enlist? At the earliest age you could?” Rianni@crystyl nods, "Pretty much. Growing up, it was always my dream and I followed it straight into the application process when I turned 16.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "I was probably about your age Pia when I first signed up.” T'Emp@anncaris:"My physical age, right? Not my actual age," she giggles. T'Emp@anncaris:"I'm pretty sure Orions don't mature that quickly!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma laughs, "I think even the Ocampa would be slow next to your start.” T'Emp@anncaris laughs, "We'll have to ask Sin about that!” T'Emp@anncaris looks to Rianni, "Anyways, joining has always been my dream too, and since I probably /can/ sign up now...I can talk to mum about it and see what she thinks!” Rianni@crystyl:"Well, I'm certain she would welcome it. And I know Mia has an extra seat for classes now!" she giggles. Rianni@crystyl:"You shouldn't feel pressured though, I was just curious. Though for the record, I know you'll make a great officer one day" she says with uncanny conviction. Almost like she knows... T'Emp@anncaris smiles, "Thank you Rianni! You say that like you already know...but you never met anyone from the future ship…” Rianni@crystyl flashes an innocent smile, "Just call it intuition!” T'Emp@anncaris:"You didn't meet the other me...did you? You couldn't have…” Rianni@crystyl shakes her head, "No, I was not even back on board then remember!" she chuckles. T'Emp@anncaris chuckles, "I thought so! Well, I'll definitely talk to mum about enlisting and taking that spot in Mia's lessons! Don't worry, you're not pressuring me or anything!” Rianni@crystyl:"Glad to hear it! Would hate to see the Starship Design Bureau miss out on your genius!” T'Emp@anncaris grins, "And I'd never pass up a chance to work for them, either!” T'Emp@anncaris:"There are civilian ship designers too, but they usually focus more on taking reliable designs and purposing them for day to day activities...only Starfleet experiments with all the fancy new ideas!” Rianni@crystyl:"And since the future where I apparently grow up to command this ship is gone, I need you to design the future of Starfleet so I can command that instead!” T'Emp@anncaris beams, "I'll make sure you get a ship with regenerating hull without having to directly implement Borg tech or anything!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma smirks, "Who knows Ri, maybe it's your destiny to command the blend of Starfleet and Borg tech in whatever form it takes!” Rianni@crystyl chuckles awkwardly, looking away as she sips her drink at the talk of destiny. T'Emp@anncaris:"Maybe! Or...maybe you can get one of my designs with the separation capability. Someone with your tactical thinking can definitely make good use of those!” Rianni@crystyl:"Ooh yes, an MVAM escort would be my dream!” T'Emp@anncaris grins, "I thought so! You'd almost be commanding three ships in one there!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma, "Well now that's just being greedy" she smirks Rianni@crystyl:"I'm sure our resident starship designer will have come up with all sorts of fun new ideas by then!” T'Emp@anncaris:"What about an Odyssey, with their escort ships? Or a Jupiter with fighter squadrons? Probably won't get one as your first command, but these come with interesting tactical options too!” T'Emp@anncaris:"And who knows, by the time you make Captain, they'll probably be older designs, and you might get one as your first command…” Rianni@crystyl:"As your mother has already demonstrated with the Forge; even a cruiser like this can prove to be quite the tactical arsenal with sufficient auxiliary craft assets thrown in.” Rianni@crystyl:"Honestly, I'm still brushing up on my fighter craft protocols to try and get up to speed with LT Baelai's new squadron!” T'Emp@anncaris:"Maybe they'll be the future of Starfleet fighters! Maybe not Nuhar fighters on every ship, but I can definitely see the Eon being adopted into Starfleet's standard complement…” Rianni@crystyl:"Not that interceptor-type small craft are generally favoured by Starfleet. But if they were, then they could do a lot worse than Eon for sure.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma nods, "Considering it was developed by a sub-species with no exposure to FTL travel it is a formidable craft that would easily stand up to it's Orion counterpart I think.” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "And that's exactly why we should adopt the Eon design. Starfleet probably won't use it much, but because Starfleet never focused on developing craft like the Eon, in the situations where - T'Emp@anncaris:- we do need it, we should take reliable designs that our allies and members are willing to share!” Rianni@crystyl:"Well if you do incorporate fighter wing support into your designs, sticking with the Eon over the Hybrids would be wise. We still have no idea how they were even made, let alone if they ever can be.” Rianni@crystyl pulls a face, thinking again on her temporal tenses but decided they are close enough. T'Emp@anncaris chuckles, "Good point. Eon is also closer to what we're used to in Starfleet anyways, since we don't use drones much save for scans and probes.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "We don't generally use those kind of cybernetic connections either.” T'Emp@anncaris:"True...but I'm sure it shouldn't be /too/ hard to convince them of Eon's utility after everything it's done on this mission!” Rianni@crystyl:"No doubt! And it keeps going from strength to strength with our own engineering upgrades to it. Let alone the squadron's addition.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "Is it true that the Hybrids AI connection extends directly to Eon's cybernetic interface when they're flying together?” Rianni@crystyl nods, "I don't know the science exactly, but in essence; yes. That is how LT Baelai communicates with and coordinates the squadron.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma gives an impressed whistle, "I tried the simulator for Eon, that was crazy enough just for the sensation of Eon alone. I can't begin to imagine what she experiences with all of those drones + Rianni@crystyl:+ plugged into her head at the same time!” T'Emp@anncaris:"That must take some getting used to...I should look into Eon's tech more though, it is very interesting!” T'Emp@anncaris:"I think it took a while for even Kelly to figure it out…” Rianni@crystyl:"Lots of interesting stuff. What's scary is that she's already talking about trying to mix the Iconian probes in as well.” T'Emp@anncaris:"The drones were made to work with us, weren't they? The probes might be harder to do...but I'm sure with everyone else working with her, they'll make sure it's safe before they try anything.” T'Emp@anncaris looks to Rianni, "Speaking of Eon and the Nuhar, they were involved in your latest plans, weren't they? I saw them being transferred off and coming back from that Construct.” Rianni@crystyl:"Yeah! God that was scary…” Rianni@crystyl | Emma scoffs, "Understatement of the century. I don't think you exhaled the entire time they were gone!” T'Emp@anncaris:"But it turned out well, didn't it?” Rianni@crystyl smiles, "Better than we could ever have hoped!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "By which she means; they followed her deployment plan and all made it back in one piece.” Rianni@crystyl pokes a tongue at Emma, "/actually/ I meant that whole business with learning about the Responder Constructs and getting that one to join the Coalition!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma leans back, smirking in disbelief, "uh-huh…” T'Emp@anncaris laughs, "I think both counts as going well!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma turns that smirk to TP, "Spoken like the daughter of a true diplomat. It's easy to see your mother in you, you know.” T'Emp@anncaris smiles, "Thank you, Emma! Though I was hoping to take on more of the engineer side..." she chuckles. "Always good to have some diplomacy skill though!” Rianni@crystyl:"I think it's safe to say you've got both in your blood. But I can definitely see you with a gold striped tunic!” T'Emp@anncaris smiles, "That'll be what I aim for!” T'Emp@anncaris looks to Emma, "You were around back were Engineers were red and Command was gold, weren't you? That's what it's like with Mia and in her holo!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma smiles and nods, "I am glad of it too, else I'd have been in yellow back then and whilst it works well enough on me now, those uniforms were not complementary to green skin in an all yellow + Rianni@crystyl:+ trim!” T'Emp@anncaris:"Oooh yeah, good point. I can imagine! I've seen you in the holo in red, and it suits you!” Rianni@crystyl smiles, "That it does.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma shoots Rianni a look, "Hey! Save it for the holodeck!" she laughs. Rianni@crystyl again pokes a tongue at her as she sips through a contented smile. T'Emp@anncaris laughs as well before looking to Emma, "Do you know why they switched the colours around?” Rianni@crystyl shakes her head, "Don't forget they moved right away from the 3 colours for a while.” T'Emp@anncaris:"They did that in the late 23rd century, didn't they?” Rianni@crystyl | Emma nods, "Yeah, towards the end of the period. They tried some rather outrageous styles that looked more surgical than anything else for a while.” Rianni@crystyl:"But then they went to what is now considered a classic style of the red tunics, right?” Rianni@crystyl | Emma nods, "I remember them well. That was the time I held a higher rank and my one brief command stint.” T'Emp@anncaris lights up, "You had a command stint? Do you mean just being a command officer, like a senior officer or an XO, or did you command a ship?” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "I was Commander in rank and XO of a starship during the Klingon war of that time. My CO was killed in battle and I took command, retaining it from there for a while.” T'Emp@anncaris asks excitedly, "What ship was it? What class?" Rianni@crystyl | Emma smiles fondly with the memory, "Aah, the Manhattan. She was an Asia class refit. NCC-1074.” T'Emp@anncaris:"An Asia-class! That's one of the ones I don't hear about often! What was it like?” Rianni@crystyl | Emma: "Visually very similar to the old Constitution, but a bit more compact. In many ways it could be argued as a precursor to the Valley Forge class.” T'Emp@anncaris:"Oooh. I've definitely heard of the Valley Forge class, though I think it's one of the lesser known ones overall as well. The Valley Forge you served on...was that the Constitution or the - T'Emp@anncaris:- Valley Forge class? I even get the two confused since they were so similar, and back to back…” Rianni@crystyl | Emma chuckles, "It was the Constitution.” T'Emp@anncaris:"So the Valley Forge class was like an earlier Constitution, and the Asia was like an earlier Valley Forge…” Rianni@crystyl | Emma nods, "The original Asia, yes. By the time of the Manhattan it was long in service. That was a refit from the 2360's, and already getting towards retirement on top of that.” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "Like the Constitutions were by the time of the Galaxies.” Rianni@crystyl | Emma, "Very much so, yes.” T'Emp@anncaris:"You must know soooo much about ship evolution. I need to pick your brain more when coming up with new ideas!” Rianni@crystyl | Emma laughs, shaking her head, "Hardly! I know those I have experience of, but I'm far from an expert on starship evolution!” T'Emp@anncaris:"Well not many people around have experience with these ships! There might be a lot of experts, but the closest they got to actually working on classes from back then was probably a holodeck!” Rianni@crystyl smiles, "She's got a point. Texts and simulations can tell all the technical details about the designs, but not the feel of life on board. That can shed all kinds of light on starship design factors+ Rianni@crystyl + wouldn't otherwise be considered!" Rianni@crystyl | Emma chuckles, "I suppose. Well Pia, you know I'm always happy to help.” T'Emp@anncaris smiles, "Thank you! I'll let you know when I need your insights!" --- T'Emp@anncaris steps into the Captain's quarters with a PADD in hand. Keelah@crystyl looks up from her spot, relaxing with some reading of her own and smiles, "Hello sweetheart.” T'Emp@anncaris smiles back as she makes her way over to Keelah, "Hi mum! How's the day been so far?” T'Emp@anncaris:"Not too much serious Captain stuff to do, I hope?” Keelah@crystyl:"Enjoyably average all in all. I am unsure of the commentary it gives on our current state when a day of routine equates to a welcome change of pace.” T'Emp@anncaris:"Well with what's been going on lately...I think a little routine can be good!" She plops herself down on the couch next to Keelah. Keelah@crystyl welcomes her with a light hug and kiss on the head before setting her PADD down, "So what about you?” T'Emp@anncaris:"I was talking to Rianni and Emma in the lounge earlier! And they brought up something I've been thinking on…” Keelah@crystyl:"Oh? Sounds serious.” T'Emp@anncaris:"Well, not serious really, but...you know how I'm going around the ship learning from Mia and Kelly and everyone already? And I'm technically old enough to enlist…” Keelah@crystyl considers her a moment, "This is about you joining the academy.” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "Mhmm! It came up when we were talking about Rianni getting promoted and everything!” Keelah@crystyl smiles, "I should have known seeing your friend graduate would rekindle such thoughts in you.” T'Emp@anncaris smiles back, "So. Can I do it mum?” Keelah@crystyl:"T'Pia, despite the elapsed time since your birth; you are a bright young woman. You can make your own decisions and not require my permission to seek your own path.” T'Emp@anncaris nods and gives Keelah a hug, "Thank you mum! For trusting me with my own decisions.” Keelah@crystyl hugs her back tightly, "My darling daughter I only want for you to be safe and happy. You know better than most your age of the commitment such a path is; but I also know it is the best route to + Keelah@crystyl:+ASDB goals, so if you say you want this, I am only happy for you.” T'Emp@anncaris smiles and nods again, "I looked up civilian ship designers, and they're nothing like the ASDB! So I definitely want to enlist.” T'Emp@anncaris:"I should contact the Academy through our comm buoys and apply as usual, right? And if I get accepted, I can start classes here.” Keelah@crystyl nods, "Yes, and as distant learning candidate you will also need a sponsorship from a command officer.” T'Emp@anncaris:"Will you do that? Or...is there some rule against family members?” Keelah@crystyl:"There is no strict ruling, though I suspect the Humans at the Academy admissions board would no doubt read a degree of family favouritism into it. No... I shall of course add my own acceptance of + Keelah@crystyl:+ you, not as a sponsor but as the CO of a remote academy faculty as we are technically classified, with the cadets on board.” Keelah@crystyl:"As for your sponsorship - with the distinct lack of other command officers on board - I would suggest looking to our ship department heads and seek out one who speaks for your desired career path.” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "I'll talk to Kelly about it, then! She should be able to give a sponsorship!” Keelah@crystyl:"And of course we must not forget the most important step of all…” T'Emp@anncaris:"What's that?” Keelah@crystyl smirks a little, "We must find out if Mia is willing to have you in her class. She does not have any 1st year cadets after all.” T'Emp@anncaris:"Oh yeah...I'll have to talk to her too! She does have a spot open now with Rianni's promotion though!” Keelah@crystyl:"I am confident she will be willing to negotiate.” T'Emp@anncaris:smiles, "Me too! She is teaching me a lot already! Just...informally," she giggles. Keelah@crystyl:"As are many of the crew who assist in her training programme, myself included.” T'Emp@anncaris nods, "I'll ask Mia and get on the application soon! Thanks again mum!” Keelah@crystyl:"Are you kidding? I should be the one thanking you for giving such a highlight to my day! In fact, this feels like cause for celebration. T'Emp@anncaris smiles wider, "Aww a celebration! You don't have to mum! I haven't even gotten in yet!” Keelah@crystyl:"Oh come now, this is a big day for you! Choosing your path in life, making that kind of commitment. Indulge me; what do you say? Drinks, nice dinner, holodeck maybe? Anything you fancy!” T'Emp@anncaris:"I was just talking to Emma about the ships of her time too...maybe we can have dinner in the holodeck on one of those classic ships!” Keelah@crystyl chuckles and ruffles her hair, "Sounds like a plan to me. I might even have a replicated period uniform still hung up somewhere... Well, let us adjourn and prepare for a nice celebration meal then!” T'Emp@anncaris grins and jumps up, "To the holodeck!" Keelah@crystyl smiles at the sight of the enthusiasm as she stands - less energetically - and joins her.

MISSION PARAMETERSOUTCOME SUMMARY Deploy squadron on secondment to assist the Nuhar Construct 'Devoted Responder' in the liberation of refugees from slaver stronghold. QanwI' successful in recovering refugees and destroying slaver operation. Squadron performed beyond expectations in providing flight support to Devoted Responder.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Devoted Responder will transport the refugees to Terminu. It is my hope that our dialogue during this mission has encouraged him (it?) to remain there with the other unified Constructs and aid the ongoing defense strategy.

NARRATIVE

The Valley Forge was approached and contacted by a Nuhar Construct identifying itself as Devoted Responder, and requesting assistance from us a recognized ally. DR informed us of refugees from the Horde that it was attempting to rescue but was waylaid by a nearby slaver operation. Valley Forge tactical presented a mission plan to deploy the new flight squadron from DR to eliminate the slaver vessels in orbit of their stronghold, while the QanwI' would land under cloak and deploy a ground assault team to rescue the refugees.

After transferring to a hangar bay on DR with the Hybrid squadron, I was greeted by a bipedal drone who served as an interaction point for DR. I learned a great deal about DR and the origin of the Responder series of constructs during this time, and did my best to act in accordance with the teachings of Starfleet by encouraging diplomatic relations with the other constructs. This is because DR has long been independent of the construct factions and is among the few of it's kind to hold so closely to it's origin purpose.

Arriving at the star system where the slaver stronghold was, the QanwI' proceeded under cloak to land on the surface within a biodome and launch it's rescue operation. With synchronous time, DR approached the slaver vessels in orbit with a hostile stance to draw their forces in. Once combat was initiated, I launched with the Hybrid squadron and we proceeded to engage enemy forces. Squadron performance was beyond simulated parameters; the integration of Eon's neural interface with squadron communications formed a... unique flight experience that I can best liken to reports I've read of hive or group minds. Communication with DR was maintained through traditional vocal means, which proved sufficient to coordinate our efforts. As it was their first combat mission, I maintained a conservative and more defensive formation for the flight. All hostiles were eliminated within mission time, and without significant loss or damage to allied forces. The final enemy vessel - which by the conclusion was fleeing back to the planetside biodome - was destroyed by QanwI' during it's ascent from the surface.
