A rare discovery in the form of a lost Nuhar Waystation ends up putting Captain Se'Lai in the hotseat with the most challenging diplomatic negotiation of her life...
View Act I
Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | It has only been a few hours since the Valley Forge departed the strange area where the world they were trapped on for the last six months was situated. With the ship back on course, many of - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - the senior staff who oversaw the departure have rotated off the bridge to get some much needed rest, while a different shift takes over for the time being. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | All is silent as they finally traverse the star-filled expanse again, when... Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gwi: "Keela- uh, Captain. Something's decloaking beside us." Keelah@crystyll looks over, "On screen. Standby shields" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | A familiar but long unseen shape appears on the screen: https://s3.amazonaws.com/files.enjin.com/161311/dossier%20stuff/lexiship.jpg Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gwi: "It's the QanwI'!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We're getting a massage...umm, message...hail! From them. The QanwI'." Keelah@crystyll smiles, "Open channel" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, tapping her console. It takes a few seconds longer than usual, but Lexi's image soon appears on the viewscreen. Keelah@crystyll 's smile brightens, "Captain Vix. I never imagined you being such a sight for sore eyes" Keelah@crystyll | Lexi: "Likewise Captain, you almost had me worried there for a moment. Where have you been hiding?" Keelah@crystyll: "It's... a long story. Do you mean to say you have been out here looking for us this whole time?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 leans on her console in the meantime, looking a little distracted. Keelah@crystyll | Lexi: "Well we only returned from patrol about a week ago, and gave you a little grace to be late for the RV - knowing what you're like to stick your noses into every little anomaly you see" Keelah@crystyll perks a brow, "Indeed... but still, I find it uncharacteristic for you to have searched all this time, and not enter the region where we were" Keelah@crystyll | Lexi: "You mean that creepy-ass void? Well, we wanted to rule out all other possibilities first and that took a few days. We also back tracked to the Nuhar planet we found in case you went there" Keelah@crystyll: "Nuhar... planet?" Keelah@crystyll | Lexi smirks: "Long story" Keelah@crystyll: "No doubt. But I still fail to quantify that taking so long in the search" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 doubles over a little more heavily on her console in the background, leading to a concerned expression from Gwi, who steps up to her. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gwi: "Are you alright, Eva?" Keelah@crystyll | Lexi frowns, "What's to add up? A day's grace on the RV, a return trip to the Nuhar planet and back - there's another 4 days. A day searching here, and there's your week" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 only seems to just notice Gwi as he speaks, "Oh. Yes! Yes. I'm fine." Keelah@crystyll: "Week?" Keelah@crystyll: "Captain Vix... how long do you believe we were out of contact?" Keelah@crystyll | Lexi: "Let's see, accounting for the initial drop time... carry the one... yeah, 2 weeks" Keelah@crystyll: "2 weeks?! Captain Vix, we have been preoccupied for more than 6 months in there" Keelah@crystyll | Lexi goes wide eyed then bursts out laughing, "HA! Good one, and they say Vulcan's don't have a sense of humour!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gwi looks over curiously at Lexi's time count before replying quietly to Eva, "You're sure? I can get you to sickbay if-" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 shakes her head, giving a small smile, "Thank you, but I'm okay." Keelah@crystyll stares stoicly at the screen, glancing to the situation building to her left, "Captain Vix, stand by..." Keelah@crystyll: "Lieutenant, what is the problem there?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Sorry. It's, umm...I need a moment. Sorry Captain." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Thorkildsen steps over from the engineering console, "I can manage basic comm functions for a few minutes." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 gives him a slight smile and looks over to Keelah apologetically, "With your permission..." Keelah@crystyll joins them, "Please do. Mr. Gwi, please see the Lieutenant to sickbay" Keelah@crystyll rests a hand on Eva's shoulder, smiling gently, "You come first, remember" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gwi nods and leads Eva into the turbolift. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Just take me to quarters. Please. This...wouldn't be appropriate in sickbay." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The door closes behind the two, leaving Thorkildsen to give Keelah a confused glance. Keelah@crystyll looks to Erik briefly before returning to her seat and looking to the viewscreen once more Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Erik: "Eva didn't mute the channel. You're still good to go." Keelah@crystyll | Lexi leans in a little, "You're not joking around are you..." Keelah@crystyll shakes her head, "I am afraid not Captain. Clearly we have much to catch up on, including your discovery. Perhaps it would be prudent for us to debrief in person" Keelah@crystyll | Lexi nods: "Can do" and turns to bark orders in Klingon at her crew, "I will be over shortly, Captain" before the comm cuts --- vanne Dra@annpc#5570 | A short while later, the doorbell to TQ's quarters rings... T'Quila@crystyll opens the door, "Oh, hey Eva- hey... you ok?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 looks a little messy, with her hair and uniform more askew than usual. She gives a little sheepish smile, "I'm alright. I was hoping to talk to you about something...if I'm not interrupting, of course." T'Quila@crystyll reaches for Eva's hand, smiling gently, "Of course not! Come on, let's get you sat down and we can talk all you want" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles back and takes a seat, "Thank you, Tee." T'Quila@crystyll: "So what's on your mind?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "So you and Tiah have a telepathic connection, right?" T'Quila@crystyll: "I'm not sure how comparable it is to typical bonds of that nature. But yes, we share... something, since she bonded to me" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, pausing a second before speaking, "When we were down on that planet, Kelly and I got...a little carried away." T'Quila@crystyll chuckles slightly, "You're not the first, and I doubt you'd be the last" tilting her head some, "Eva, what's this all about?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Well, we may have...accidentally formed a bond in the time we spent together. It was alright, pretty nice, actually, when we were talking about potentially having to settle down and everything." T'Quila@crystyll: "Oh boy..." she stands, retrieving a bottle of wine and two glasses she returns with, pouring them out and handing one to Eva, "But... it's not now?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 shakes her head, "You know her previous partner was a Betazoid, and we've always been careful not to form a bond in the past. More careful than she usually is with not getting too attached." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Ever since we got back to the ship, she's been avoiding me, outside of professional interaction. Which is fine, but..." she takes a sip of the wine. T'Quila@crystyll sips a little, letting Eva continue at her own pace Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I think she was hoping for the bond to dissipate when we left, but it didn't, because my telepathic abilities were just enhanced by those wisps, not granted by them. And now she's trying to - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - distract herself from the implications of such a bond. Which is also fine...if we weren't linked." T'Quila@crystyll: "Ah..." she cottons on Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 takes another sip, "You can imagine how distracting that would be..." T'Quila@crystyll: "I can guess..." she sighs, "I wish I had an easy answer for you, Eva..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I have been thinking...we have these implants, and if we change the settings on either my implant or Kelly's it could disrupt the link when our neural signals use different coding. The thing is, - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - these implants were built to stop outside influence. I have no idea how it would affect a link in progress." T'Quila@crystyll: "Also, tweaking it might well leave you susceptible to that very outside influence it's there to protect from" T'Quila@crystyll: "Besides, that won't really be fixing the problem now, will it" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "No, it won't. It'll just be working around it." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "You know Kelly too, though. What do you think about all this?" T'Quila@crystyll: "I think..." she smiles a little, "...I think it's a beautiful thing you two have! I think you both deserve a little happiness, and just because we got back to normality is no reason to give up on + T'Quila@crystyll: + that! I know it's especially scary for Kelly, which is all the more reason you need to have this converation with her" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I'm not sure I want to break the bond either, but she really doesn't want it. On the surface level, at least." T'Quila@crystyll: "You have the bond, so you know what lies beneath the surface" T'Quila@crystyll: "And you know Kelly. You know that the surface is just a defense mechanism" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "But how do I get past the surface? Without being too intrusive with my bond." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles, "You think the telepath would know this better." T'Quila@crystyll: "Honestly? Just talk to her. It won't be easy, and she'd be naturally reluctant. You don't have to push her for anything though, just make sure she knows that you are there for her and you have all + T'Quila@crystyll: + the time in the world to find your comfortable place with each other" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "What about this bond in the meantime, though? I don't want to just ask her not to be with anyone. And she's a senior officer, so her shifts and off-duty hours aren't always predictable." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "So trying to match our shifts might not always work out." T'Quila@crystyll: "Well, I'd still be dubious about fiddling with your implant. But maybe... what about discipline techniques?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "As in, telepathic discipline techniques? Trying to shut the shared feelings out?" T'Quila@crystyll: "I don't know about shutting them out, but keeping them in check. Like our emotional suppression" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Vulcan techniques, you mean? That can work." T'Quila@crystyll: "They might not help Kelly with the effects of the bond so much, for a naturally more disciplined mind like yours they should at least take the edge off" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles, "Kelly has her own way of dealing with it. I just hope these methods can keep me from getting too distracted while she's dealing with it." T'Quila@crystyll smiles, "I would happy to work with you on it, but you know I'm also not the most skilled on board with such things" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles back, "Well, I don't know Vulcan techniques anywhere near as well as either of my parents do, so I'll take all the help I can get." T'Quila@crystyll: "I will need some time to prepare, but if you don't mind coming back here in a few hours I should be suitably prepared to guide you as best I can" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "Take your time! How are you settling back in, by the way?" T'Quila@crystyll: "Honestly, I'm relieved to be back. We don't need to keep hiding Tiah from her adoring fans up here at least!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 laughs, "Very true! Did Tiah like it there, though? She's always complaining about the lack of life here." T'Quila@crystyll slumps a little, "She was much more... natural there. I feel bad for her being away from a place where she felt so at home again" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Did she complain about having to leave?" T'Quila@crystyll: "Oh never! She calls this home and seems happy enough here. But I know she misses that place too, stars we all do in some way I bet..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I'm very glad to be back, but we've spent so long there that a part of me misses it too." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles, "And I don't just mean being with Kelly on that planet." T'Quila@crystyll: "I'm not surprised! We only experienced a fraction of the time there that you did and I share the sentiment" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Speaking of time...I heard something about not as much time as we think having passed while I was on the bridge. I didn't catch all of it, but have you heard it yet?" T'Quila@crystyll shakes her head, "No, what's this now then?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We made contact with the QanwI', and Captain Vix said something about only having a few weeks passed." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I'm not entirely sure, I had to leave the bridge halfway..." T'Quila@crystyll: "A few weeks, huh? Well I guess if that's true, then if nothing else we can rest easy knowing that folks back home probably haven't had cause to give up on us yet and we should still be on track for + T'Quila@crystyll: + our mission!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I hope so too! Apparently it wasn't even long enough for the QanwI' to decide to enter the region and search for us." T'Quila@crystyll: "Yeah... or Captain Vix was masterminding a plot to take on the mission herself and earn a big spotty statue in the Great Hall!" she laughs Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 laughs, "Maybe! Anyways, I'll see you in a few hours when you're ready?" T'Quila@crystyll: "Sure thing" she smiles, "Just try and get some rest in the mean time, yeah?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles back, "I will. Kelly's too worn out to distract me again so I should be fine." T'Quila@crystyll: "I'll see you soon then Eva" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 finishes her glass and stands, "Thank you again, Tee. I'll see you in a bit!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 sets the glass on a nearby table and gives a wave as she heads out. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 returns a few hours later dressed in her off-duty clothes, ringing the doorbell again. T'Quila@crystyll: "Come in" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 steps inside, "Everything set, Tee?" T'Quila@crystyll sits, kneeling on the floor in a now darkened room. A small meditation lamp burning softly in front of her T'Quila@crystyll gestures for Eva to join her, "We are ready" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 lowers herself onto the floor on the other side of the lamp. T'Quila@crystyll: "Did you manage to get some rest?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles and nods, "I did. I hope this isn't too much work for you?" T'Quila@crystyll: "I may be a little out of practice, but that does not mean it is not a good thing for me to work on sometimes still" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Very true. These techniques are very useful, even if you don't live a traditional Vulcan lifestyle." T'Quila@crystyll: "That they are. If you are ready, let us begin" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I'm ready." T'Quila@crystyll nods, closing her eyes and drawing a deep breath, "First, focus yourself on this moment. Close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 imitates TQ, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, paying close attention to the rhythm of her own breathing. T'Quila@crystyll: "Concentrate on the sensations. Do not simply allow them to happen, but comprehend the complexity of each breath. The air rushing to your lungs, the blood coursing your veins with each breath. Hear + T'Quila@crystyll: + melody of life that is you" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods slowly, keeping her eyes closed as she follows TQ's instructions. T'Quila@crystyll: "Good. Allow your mind to embrace this rhythm, become one with it" T'Quila@crystyll: "When you feel prepared, reach beyond the self. Feel the same rhythm in the world around you" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 continues concentrating on the breathing for a few more seconds before beginning to reach out. T'Quila@crystyll observes Eva for a good long while as she meditates, "Good... now, describe the rhythym" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "It's very slow, calm, relaxed. The hum of the ship. The faint buzz of the computers and replicators." T'Quila@crystyll nods, "Good. Continue to probe deeper, let yourself feel beyond the senses; the tremors of your pulse and mine, the shockwaves through the air from our exhaling. Try to feel the chaos in the serenity Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I feel it. The breathing. The occasional crewmember traversing the nearby halls, disrupting the quiet calm of the machines at work." T'Quila@crystyll sits down. T'Quila@crystyll: "Good. Keep focusing on that hidden chaos. Search for it, reach out and locate it everywhere in and around you" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods again, "The irregularities in heartbeat. The occasional small movements, tiny twitches of muscles. I can feel it all." T'Quila@crystyll: "Now, take that chaos and bring it to order. Visualize it in your mind, sweep it aside from the serenity it hides under. Control it, contain it. Own it" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 focuses intently but silently as she continues to follow TQ's instruction, visualizing the chaos being separated and swept away. T'Quila@crystyll allows her considerable time to focus on this, waiting until she sees the serenity in Eva Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 slowly seems more relaxed as her posture untenses and her expression shifts from one of focus to one of calm. T'Quila@crystyll: "That's it. You have absolute control over the chaos around you. It can not hide from you, masked by the serenity" T'Quila@crystyll: "When the chaos is no longer hidden, it is no longer a threat. With control it is tamed to become one with the serenity, just as you are now one with your emotions" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods again, with a slow grace, her face still serene. T'Quila@crystyll: "Emotions are chaos, the chaos is your emotion. The chaos is yours to control. The chaos is serene" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I understand." T'Quila@crystyll: "Open your eyes" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 opens her eyes, looking ahead at TQ. T'Quila@crystyll looks back, smiling gently, "How do you feel?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles back, "Calm. In control. Like everything within and around me is stable." T'Quila@crystyll: "That is good. It won't last forever, and I can't imagine it making any difference to your empathic senses. But with luck, meditating like this every day should help you exercise control over your + T'Quila@crystyll: + own emotions. And by extensions, the bond you share with Kelly" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles again, "I think this will help a lot. Thank you, Tee." T'Quila@crystyll: "You're my friend Eva, I will always do anything I can to help you" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "And you're a good friend. We're all lucky to have you here." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I think I might finally get what Tiah means about the ship being dead, too." T'Quila@crystyll: "Oh?" she asks curiously, retrieving the lamp to blow out it's flame Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I don't normally sit and try to feel the world around me. When I was on the planet, my senses were enhanced and I can sense life everywhere. Not just in the cities, but around me, in the form of - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - insects, critters. In the soil, the air, the water. Here, when I reach out, it's empty by comparison." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We have a full crew, but it still can't compare to the liveliness of a planet. Most of the ship is just machine." T'Quila@crystyll: "That... actually makes sense. You know, the wisps maintained that our experienced abilities down there were simply our natural potential" T'Quila@crystyll: "That being so, maybe it is actually possible for you to regain that degree of connection with time and training" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I can see how mine might be. I'm...not so sure about Lennie shooting lightning bolts, though." T'Quila@crystyll: "Is it really such a stretch from what we know of the mind and body already?" T'Quila@crystyll: "We know that a powerful telepath can conjur just about any mental image, influence life around them. Who's to say one couldn't conjur such specific illusions and their impact on the environment?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "That is true. And there are beings that can channel energy through their bodies for various purposes." T'Quila@crystyll: "Let alone entities like the Q who evolved beyond the physical form" T'Quila@crystyll: "In theory, we are all capable of reaching near limitless potential. Maybe not within individual lifetimes, but within our genetics and evolution maybe" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Like what the Chlasi believe, about ascension." T'Quila@crystyll sits down. T'Quila@crystyll: "Exactly, yes! Chlasi, Ocampa, both prime examples of that kind of growth" T'Quila@crystyll: "Just because it is not inherent to Orions, does not mean it is not impossible. Unlikely, but not impossible. Just like Humans, I am certain Orions have the capacity for telepathy in their genes, and+ T'Quila@crystyll: + this can manifest randomly in individuals. Not to say I expect to see Lennie running around throwing fireballs across the ship any time soon!" she laughs Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 laughs, "Now that would be a sight! I think your explanation makes sense. That's why some of our abilities, like mine, were just an enhancement of our natural talents." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "But for some they haven't evolved to the point of displaying those abilities yet, but could very well do so in the future." T'Quila@crystyll: "And I like to think that we are capable of least retaining some of what we learned about ourselves during that time" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I think so too. We might not have all the abilities, but it's like what you're teaching me now. The discipline to harness and control these abilities can be used to improve other parts of - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - life, even if they're not quite as spectacular as throwing fireballs." T'Quila@crystyll: "There are some schools which teach that everything comes back to the same quintessential ability. In other words, if you can perform the simple meditation, you can also throw fireballs" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles, "Controlling this bond will be enough for me. Though I suppose I won't say no to fireballs." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Speaking of which, I still have to find and speak to Kelly sometime..." T'Quila@crystyll: "Of course. I'm glad to see you seeming better" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I've yet to put it to use when she goes and has her fun, but I'm sure this will help." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I'm not sure you'd want to be around for the actual trial, though. I don't mind you seeing if I do lose control, but you probably don't want to see me like that," she laughs. T'Quila@crystyll: "Just keep up with regular meditation and I'm sure it will help" she smiles Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles back and nods, "You've been a great help, Tee. Let me know if you ever need anything too, okay?" T'Quila@crystyll: "Of course Eva" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 stands, "I'll see you around. And let you know how things work out!" T'Quila@crystyll: "Looking forward to it!" she smiles, giving her a wave while packing the meditation gear away Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 waves back and heads out the room again. --- Keliaya@anncarise FX | Several days have passed since exiting the anomaly region, and the Valley Forge enters its first period of heightened activity since leaving as they approach the 'Nuhar planet' found during - Keliaya@anncarise - the QanwI's scouting... Keliaya@anncarise nods over to TQ from the Engineering station, "Let the Captain know we're almost there." Keelah@crystyll | TQ nods and sends the message Keliaya@anncarise turns back to her console and continues tapping away. Keelah@crystyll appears a few minutes later from her ready room, "What's the situation?" Keliaya@anncarise: "Long-range sensors are picking up sigificant amounts of technological signatures from the system, which is no surprise." Keelah@crystyll takes her seat, "Any sign of reaction to our approach yet?" Keliaya@anncarise shakes her head. "Nothing at all." Keelah@crystyll: "Tee, request Mia's presence on the bridge. Just in case we need some extra quick thinking in communication with them" Keliaya@anncarise | Fisher: "ETA to arrival is four minutes." Keelah@crystyll | TQ: "Aye Captain" tapping away again Keelah@crystyll: "Maintain course and speed for now but do not enter the system yet" Keliaya@anncarise | Fisher nods, "Maintaining course and speed." Keelah@crystyll: "Can we learn anything from long range sensors at this distance?" Keliaya@anncarise: "Not yet, but we should be able to soon." Keliaya@anncarise announces about a minute later, "The technological signatures are being more distinct now. It's definitely Nuhar technology, but no sign of any constructs." Keelah@crystyll: "No constructs? Then what are we looking at here, an abandoned colony?" Keliaya@anncarise: "There is a ship in orbit, but the closest match we have is Lupan technology." Keelah@crystyll: "Oh boy..." Keliaya@anncarise: "I don't think it's abandoned. The power levels indicate most, if not all of the technology is online." Keelah@crystyll leans back in her chair, pondering, "Something definitely doesn't add up here... speculation?" Keliaya@anncarise: "Well, there's two possibilities I can think of..." Keliaya@anncarise: "We've seen the Lupan demonstrate knowledge of Nuhar technology at the crashed construct. Maybe they control this place now." Keelah@crystyll: "True. But I would expect more than a single ship if they held a place such as this. And whilst they seemed knowledgable, they lacked certain fundamentals and were barely able to get the basics + Keelah@crystyll: + working on a single construct. Of course, they could be another scout here trying to do the same thing" Keliaya@anncarise: "Or...maybe the ship is a construct using so much salvaged Lupan technology that it can barely be discerned as a construct. But it's definitely looking to have some level of fusion between - Keliaya@anncarise: - Nuhar and Lupan signatures. We'll need a closer scan to be sure." Keelah@crystyll: "Either way. Something is... off about this place" Keliaya@anncarise FX | The warp streaks fade into stars on the main viewscreen. Keliaya@anncarise | Fisher: "We're holding position outside the system now." Keelah@crystyll: "Any movement or further detail on sensors?" Keelah@crystyll | Mia enters the bridge and takes up on a station beside TQ Keliaya@anncarise: "If the hybrid ship has seen us, it's not showing it. There is debris in the system near the planet, though. Looks to be of varying hull compositions...likely many different ships. Keliaya@anncarise: "None of them match Lupan or Nuhar hull compositions, though." Keelah@crystyll: "Can we get a read on weapon signatures?" Keliaya@anncarise: "Not from this range. None of it is recent, so the damage would have to be discerned from closely looking at the damage patterns." Keelah@crystyll: "Alright. We're not going to learn anything from long range only..." Keelah@crystyll: "Let's try a probe first, get a better read of the ship and debris in orbit" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "Engineering is preparing a probe now." Keelah@crystyll: "What about the surrounding region; any signs of decaying warp trails or recent traffic?" Keliaya@anncarise: "There...are signs of warp trails, the most recent coming from that hybrid vessel. But others suggest Nuhar constructs." Keelah@crystyll: "How recent is recent?" Keliaya@anncarise: "The hybrid vessel arrived less than two days ago. The most recent Nuhar warp trail is at least two weeks old, though." Keliaya@anncarise: "It's barely discernable as a warp trail, but looking closely there's tells of construct presence." Keelah@crystyll hrms, watching the viewscreen as she ponders more before leaning back across her shoulder a little, "Tell me Kelly, what do you know of the Sehlat?" Keliaya@anncarise: "It's a...Vulcan animal, isn't it? I've heard some people keep them as pets." Keelah@crystyll smiles a little, "Like many young Vulcans, I cared for one when I was a young girl" Keelah@crystyll: "Sehlat are powerful natural predators, at home in the barren deserts of Vulcan" Keliaya@anncarise: "But they could be tamed to live alongside Vulcans?" Keelah@crystyll: "With practice and patience, yes. But more interestingly here..." Keelah@crystyll looks back to the viewscreen, "Do you know how such a creatures evolves to the top of it's food chain in land so devoid of prey?" Keliaya@anncarise: "How?" Keelah@crystyll: "By stalking the few watering holes and food sources" Keelah@crystyll: "Exactly what it looks like this hybrid ship is doing here..." Keliaya@anncarise: "That does make sense. The probe is ready if you want to deploy it for more information, Captain." Keelah@crystyll: "Let's keep it simple for now. Set it on a wide orbital sweep of the system with passive scans only. If I'm right, that ship may not react to it's presence if it thinks it a harmless long range probe+ Keelah@crystyll: + on a survey. Launch when ready" Keliaya@anncarise nods, tapping on her console before announcing, "Launching probe." Keelah@crystyll watches the telemetry as it progresses Keliaya@anncarise FX | The probe travels through the system unhindered. Keliaya@anncarise: "We're getting data back..." Keliaya@anncarise FX | The data shows no sign of life on technology on any other planet except the Class M, which possesses a giant sprawl of Nuhar buildings and facilities across the entire surface of a - Keliaya@anncarise: - medium-sized eastern continent. There are lifesigns, mostly of non-sentient creatures, with the only sentient beings seeming to be a concentration of Lupan in one part of the megacity. Keliaya@anncarise | There are signs of weapons technology similar to that found on Nuhar constructs, dotted both across the surface and on four orbital installations, but none of them appear to be active, though - Keliaya@anncarise: - they are clearly intact. Keelah@crystyll continues to observe, waiting to see reaction from the ship before the probe returns Keliaya@anncarise | The ship does not react. However, Mia notices some very familiar signatures in the data coming from the planet... Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "Mon Capitaine! We are seeing familiar signatures moving from the planet to intercept the probe. They appear to be Nuhar drones" Keelah@crystyll: "Can you determine if they are fully functional, or under limited control like those the Lupan wielded before?" Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "As best as we can tell, they are fully functional" Keelah@crystyll: "In that case, relay your Nuhar greeting message through the probe. Direct specifically to the drones if you can, not an open comm for the ship to intercept yet" Keelah@crystyll | Mia nods and does so Keliaya@anncarise | The data shows the drones coming closer and closer...but they don't intercept the probe, simply flying alongside for a few moments. The probe's readings suggest that they are scanning it. Keliaya@anncarise | Then, the drones move off, as TQ gets a message relayed back from the probe... Keelah@crystyll | TQ: "Incoming message being relayed through the probe" Keelah@crystyll: "Cleanse through the Nuhar safety net and patch it through when clear" Keliaya@anncarise | The message plays in a translated computer voice: "Identification complete. Clear to approach." Keelah@crystyll: "Well... not exactly open arms, but it's definitive" Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "Coming from a Nuhar AI, mon Capitaine; that is as close to open arms as we are likely to see we think!" Keliaya@anncarise | Fisher: "Should I plot a course for the planet, Captain?" Keelah@crystyll smiles a little, "Perhaps so. Still, cautionary approach. Mr. Fisher, take us on approach to form up with the drones and recover our probe" Keelah@crystyll: "Cadet, yellow alert; shields only" Keliaya@anncarise | Fisher: "Aye aye, Captain." Keelah@crystyll | Rianni nods, "Sure thing Kee- *ahem* Captain. Aye Captain, sorry..." Keelah@crystyll smiles a little, "We're all still readjusting to formality, Cadet. Don't worry yourself, just focus on your duty" Keelah@crystyll | Rianni smiles a little and nods silently as she works her console Keliaya@anncarise | The Valley Forge enters the system and forms up with the drones without any trouble. Keelah@crystyll watches, as though trying to predict the drones next move, "Mia... is it possible, even likely that these drones can sense those on board with us - communicate with them without our knowledge?" Keelah@crystyll | Mia checks quickly, "It is... theoretically possible. But not without our detecting it" Keelah@crystyll: "Ok. Send a message to our... entourage out there. Request introductory dialogue with recognized authority, suitable for biological lifeforms to communicate with" Keelah@crystyll | TQ: "They are responding. Routing it through..." Keliaya@anncarise | Message: "Vessel: Valley Forge. Arrival expected. Notification sent. Please await contact. Use local facilities as needed." Keliaya@anncarise: "They're...expecting us?" Keelah@crystyll perks a brow, "I assume the invitation to use local facilities refers to more than taking a bathroom break... Mia, you know the Nuhar better than anyone, interpretation?" Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "We would view this as an invitation" she nods, "Scans indicate a number of habitation zones tailored to carbon based lifeforms" Keelah@crystyll: "Alright then, pick a promising one - preferably with a nice view - and relay coordinates to the transporter room" Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "Yes mon Capitaine!" Keelah@crystyll: "And do so before joining Kelly for the away mission" she smiles a little, standing ready to hand over the bridge Keelah@crystyll | Mia looks back a moment before smiling wide and nodding Keliaya@anncarise finishes what she is doing before turning for the turbolift as well. Keelah@crystyll: "Kelly; it's your mission, take whomever you see fit" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "I'll inform them and have them gather in the transporter room." Keelah@crystyll: "Standard procedure, we treat as a complete unknown with caution until we know more" she smiles, "Good luck down there" before heading off Keliaya@anncarise: "Thank you, Kee- Captain." Keliaya@anncarise heads off for the turbolift. Keelah@crystyll chuckles at yet another slip --- Keliaya@anncarise beams down to the surface of the Nuhar planet with Mia, Mana, Sayu and Delaan. They materialize at what looks almost like a beachside resort, well-maintained but eerily quiet. Keliaya@anncarise | The only inhabitants appear to be drones, but not the sort found on constructs that the Valley Forge had adopted. They come in many different shapes and sizes. Mia@crystyll looks around and smiles proudly, "Capitaine Keelah did insist we find a scenic location to visit. We believe this meets the criteria!" Keliaya@anncarise looks around, "That it certainly does. This looks like the Nuhar version of Risa or Pacifica. I wonder if that's what it was back in the day." Mia@crystyll | Miadrone beeps chirpily Keliaya@anncarise | Mana: "These drones are different. Certainly Nuhar in technology, but most possess no armaments. Only a few have basic cutting lasers." Mia@crystyll giggles, "The little one is right, perhaps it is still the Nuhar equivalent of Risa or Pacifica. Drones deserve R&R too!" Keliaya@anncarise | One of the drones hover over to the group, "Welcome to the Waystation." Mia@crystyll gives a surprised "Oh!" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "We have been programmed to accommodate your linguistic matrix. How may we help you today?" Mia@crystyll looks to Kelly as the senior officer, not wanting to overstep her mark while her new rank cuffs are still so shiny Keliaya@anncarise: "Can you tell us what this place is?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "The Waystation is a collection of planetary facilities built to support and accommodate the Vanguard of the Children and their allies." Keliaya@anncarise: "You mean the Guardians?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Negative." Keliaya@anncarise glances to Mia. Mia@crystyll: "We take from that, this unit has a positive record on file for the Guardians which distinguishes them from the Vanguard of the Children?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Correct. The organization known as Guardians succeeded the role of the Vanguard, but few of its members possess a direct connection to the original Vanguard of the Children." Mia@crystyll: "Which implies some of its members do possess this relationship. Can this unit clarify the distinction and how the Valley Forge is predetermined as one of said allies?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Vessel: Valley Forge has been identified by Construct: Unwavering Defender as an ally in the defense against the Horde. According to the Defender's extrapolation of the vessel's - Keliaya@anncarise: - course, Valley Forge was due to pass by the vicinity of the Waystation." Mia@crystyll smiles, "We always did like Unwavering Defender. So... by definition, this facility is a designated layover and resupply depot for recognized allies on their way to the front line against the Horde?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Correct." Keliaya@anncarise: "What about the Lupan ship in orbit? They're here with your permission as well?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Correct." Mia@crystyll looks to Kelly, "This would be the first instance to our knowledge of any Lupan force moving away from their traditional values and joining the Guardians’ fight." Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "The Lupan are not affiliated with the Guardians. The Lupan are permitted per the Waystation's original parameters." Keliaya@anncarise looks at the drone curiously, "And why is that?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Because the Lupan possess a direct connection to the original Vanguard of the Children." Mia@crystyll: "Original parameters? Please clarify" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "The Waystation accommodates members of the original Vanguard of the Children. The Protectors, who you know as the Lupan, were prominent members of the Vanguard." Mia@crystyll: "Lupan... Protectors? This is a new revelation..." Mia@crystyll: "These Lupan have not then threatened your waystation in any way?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "The Protectors were uplifted by the Progenitors to serve as the primary line of defense against the Horde threat. More recent data indicates that the Protectors have fallen from - Keliaya@anncarise: - their purpose. However, the Waystation offers our services freely to the Lupan per our original parameters, and they have no reason to threaten us." Mia@crystyll: "Interesting... This is indeed consistent. We are still surprised by the amenable relationship with the Lupan here. We have previously encountered members of the species attempting to plagiarize the + Mia@crystyll: + remnants of Nuhar constructs for more selfish gains. When we detected their presence, we feared the same fate had befallen your waystation" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Negative. The Waystation is fully capable of self-defense, but the Lupan have no purpose in attacking the Waystation when all the station's amenities are freely offered." Keliaya@anncarise | Mana: "Mana supposes the Lupan can be logical at times. Lupan culture revolves around the strong taking from all others, but if goods are offered freely..." Mia@crystyll: "Do these visiting Lupan know about their original purpose?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Negative. Every attempt to inform the Lupan of their original purpose have resulted in a range of reactions from denial to anger." Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Recent data indicates the Protectors have subscribed to a religious doctrine promoting the belief that their species was created by the Progenitors to be superior lifeforms." Mia@crystyll: "This is correct. Does this unit have information on what caused the Protectors’ sudden fall into obscurity from their design function?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Negative. This unit does not believe the fall to have been sudden, but to have occurred over many centuries. There is likely no single driving factor, but the transition of - Keliaya@anncarise: - the original Vanguard into the modern Guardian organization and the disappearance of the Creators and the Progenitors are all potential factors." Mia@crystyll: "Feasible" she nods, conceding the point Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Are there any further questions?" Keliaya@anncarise: "According to the message we got upon arriving here, we're being asked to wait?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Correct. You are welcome to enjoy the amenities of the Waystation in the meantime." Keliaya@anncarise: "Well, since we're already here, we might as well take a look around." Mia@crystyll: "Could you expand on the statement as to who or what we are being asked to wait for?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Construct: Unwavering Defender." Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Estimated arrival time: Three planetary rotations." Mia@crystyll smiles, "Thank you. We may well have further questions in time, but should perhaps take some time to familiarize with this habitat. Is there an optimal means for us to reach out again at such times?" Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "You may address the nearest drone, which will call for a unit such as this one." Keliaya@anncarise | Nuhar Drone: "Private suites will be equipped with communications panels for a similar purpose." Mia@crystyll: "Most courteous, thank you. That is all we require for now then" Keliaya@anncarise | The Nuhar drone hovers away. Keliaya@anncarise: "I'll update the Captain on what we just learned while we have a look around. Feel free to lead us where you like, Mia. I trust your judgement, especially when it comes to Nuhar." --- Human NPC@annpc#5570 FX | Not long after Kelly has left the bridge, TQ receives a hail from the Lupan ship... Keelah@crystyll | TQ looks up to check who's covering the bridge while Keelah plays Angry Warbirds. Yeah, she knows Keelah@crystyll | TQ turns to Lennie: "Commander. We're being hailed by the Lupan vessel" Keelah@crystyll | Lennie turns, looking around in the vain hope that was addressed to someone else, "Cap's on duty still, let 'er know" Keelah@crystyll | TQ nods and comms Keelah who emerges with a nod to TQ to open channel Human NPC@annpc#5570 FX | A white-furred Lupan appears on the viewscreen, "You must be the mighty Star-Blade." Keelah@crystyll: "So people keep telling me. And you are?" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Lupan: "I am Jarvak, First of the Asken Pack. I see the Machines have let you through." Keelah@crystyll: "We have a history of mutual cooperation and allegiance with the Nuhar remnants. You however... are the pack I have found not to be abritarily butchering their carcasses for short sighted gains" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "My pack are scavengers and traders. We have raided little prey, usually the ones too insigificant to catch the attention of the more powerful packs and tribes." Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "We have not the capability to compete with other packs for Nuhar remains, but all packs are welcome to take what is needed here from the Machine World." Keelah@crystyll: "Fair enough. We have also had our share of amenable dealings with other packs. Only those who foolhardy enough to act against us have made enemies of themselves. We have no cause to interfere with + Keelah@crystyll: + your affairs here" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "We have made many improvements with the Machines' resources, but so have you, as we can see. Besides, even if it were not for your reputation, we are not foolish enough to raid anyone - Human NPC@annpc#5570: - here. The carcasses of many a ship around this world is a testament to what the Machines can do if their wrath is provoked." Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Even the most brazen of Zealots would not cause trouble in the sight of their world." Keelah@crystyll: "As we have noticed" she pauses for thought, "If your pack is open to amenable relations, we would be happy to meet with you. It is entirely possible that we each possess information of interest to + Keelah@crystyll: + another" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "If the rumours are correct, you are newcomers to these regions. You will probably have little information to offer us, but we are willing to give you what we know, for the right price." Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "And if you wish to trade in more material things, we have some to offer, though the Machines will likely give you what you need if they have let you come this far." Keelah@crystyll: "You may be surprised. During our time we have made a number of interesting discoveries regarding your people's search for answers about their heritage" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak nods, "We will hear what you have to say, then, and deem if it is worth the price of our information." Keelah@crystyll: "Then I look forward to meeting in person" glances to TQ, "Until then, we shall leave you be" Keelah@crystyll | TQ waits for the comm to end and patches Kelly in on audio Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "Away team to Captain Keelah." Keelah@crystyll: "We read you Kelly. What's the situation down there?" she asks, taking her seat Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "The situation is pretty good. You were somewhat on point with the bathroom break. This place is essentially a combination of a pit stop and a hotel in deep space. Just - Human NPC@annpc#5570: - with the resupply capacity rivalling a starbase and resorts that can easily stand up to any pleasure world in Federation space." Keelah@crystyll: "Fascinating. Does this mean it is indeed a former Nuhar world that continues to function by the AI alone?" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "Everything we've seen suggests so. This place has been in operation since the Iconian and Nuhar civilizations were still around. It was built as a layover for vessels on their way - Human NPC@annpc#5570: - back and forth from the Horde front. It's fallen out of use since the original Vanguard turned into the Guardians we hear about today, but the drones still maintain the facilities." Keelah@crystyll: "And what of the Lupan connection? We just spoke with the ship and there was no mention of moving to the front. If anything, it was suggested that this is a regular friendly port for them" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "According to what the drones told us, the Lupan were part of the original Vanguard. The Nuhar constructs we encountered identified us as allies against the Horde, which is why we - Human NPC@annpc#5570: - were allowed through. But the Lupan have access by default." Keelah@crystyll: "The Lupan truly date so far back?" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "The drone said that the Preservers...not quite created, but likely altered the Lupan to serve as Protectors against the Horde. It would seem their Sisterhood's teachings are - Human NPC@annpc#5570: - partially correct. They /were/ engineered to be superior soldiers, but to defend the Preserver seeded species, not to rule over them." Keelah@crystyll: "So they were engineered as a weapon against the Horde. That would explain their strong resistance to telepathic influence then" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "Their culture evolved beyond the Preservers' designs over the years. It's unclear just how much, but they definitely weren't always the raiders we know them as today." Keelah@crystyll: "This is indeed fortuitous timing, Kelly. Have you learned anything more of the suggestion that we were to wait here for attention from someone?" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "The Unwavering Defender is on its way here. The Waystation is expecting it in three rotations, which would be a little over two of our days." Keelah@crystyll: "Unwavering Defender? This is a significant development. I assume from your description of this place that we are expected to wait here comfortably in the mean time?" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "That's what the Waystation wants us to do." Keelah@crystyll: "Continue your assessment to that effect then. We'll await your full report before deciding if we permit R&R" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "Understood. It's looking pretty nice so far, but we've barely scratched the surface of this place." Keelah@crystyll: "I look forward to seeing it for myself then" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "I think you'll like it here. If nothing else, there's quite a lot to learn about Nuhar culture here." Keelah@crystyll: "It may be worth investigating the possibility of offloading our drone contingent here as well. I suggest tasking Mia with exploring the possibility with them" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "I'll talk to her about it. Oh, and one more thing." Keelah@crystyll: "Go on" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "The drone said that the Lupan haven't been very accepting of their origins every time they've tried to inform them. Their belief in the Sisterhood's teachings is too deeply - Human NPC@annpc#5570: - engrained. I don't know if the Sisterhood believes what they say or are lying on purpose, but I don't think we'll be able to convince individual packs without confronting their priestesses first." Keelah@crystyll: "Possibly. Maybe in your time down there more solid evidence that the emotionless fact stating of the drones will come to light as well" Human NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "We'll see what else we can find, Captain." Keelah@crystyll: "Understood. Valley Forge out" --- NPC@annpc#5570 FX | After Kelly's team determined the Waystation as a safe and suitable R&R spot, the Valley Forge chooses one of its residential 'resorts' as a neutral meeting ground with the Lupan pack in orbit NPC@annpc#5570 | Keelah enters a meeting room with Silvestrie and a small security escort, having arrived before the Lupan. Keelah@crystyll takes stock of the room, enjoying every small benefit the brief interlude presents NPC@annpc#5570 | The table appears to be a simple, well, table, and the chairs are comfortable but not particularly high-tech. Keelah@crystyll picks her spot across from the door, remaining on her feet until the Lupan join them NPC@annpc#5570 | A few minutes later, the Lupan Alpha Jarvak steps through the door, flanked by two Lupan with the same snow-white fur as him. NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Ah. The hospitality of the Waystation. Amazing place, isn't it?" Keelah@crystyll: "It is indeed most welcoming. Almost a rival for the famed vacation spots of the Federation core" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak does not sit on a chair, but instead lowers himself onto his knees in front of the table, sitting almost seiza style. NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "My people do not have such places. The closest we have are hunting worlds." Keelah@crystyll tilts her head slightly having not witnessed this posture from other Lupan, "A meditative prose?" she queries NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak lets out a bark-like laugh, "A sitting pose. Surely you do not expect us to sit in your seats? You do not have tails, after all!" Keelah@crystyll chuckles, "Of course. Remarkably reminiscent of a meditation posture used by my own people" she sits in the chair, "We encountered one of your hunting worlds some time ago. Well, one of another pack+ Keelah@crystyll: + at least. It was quite the experience for a number of my people to partake in a coming of age hunt there" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Your people participated in such a hunt? A rare honour." Keelah@crystyll nods curtly, "One of our earlier encounters with what we believe to be a more modest pack" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak nods, "Our packs can vary quite differently from one another." The Lupan runs his hand over the table and a holographic interface appears out nowhere. He taps on something and suddenly a - NPC@annpc#5570: - large plate of what seem to be the ribs and spiked spine of a creature is replicated right on the table's surface. NPC@annpc#5570 | Apparently, this table is not just a simple table... Keelah@crystyll: "All the charm of a classic resort" she acknowledges, "It is understandable why your pack remains on good terms with the Waystation" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak breaks off one of the spines with a clawed hand, chewing on the bottom, "Indeed. We Lupan prefer the satisfaction of hunting our own food, but it is good to have a rest from time to time." NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Many of the recipes held by the Waystation are all that remains of entire species and cultures." Keelah@crystyll: "A regretable commentary, but so ultimately the fate of all great civilizations in the eye of time" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Indeed. Our people have watched many rise and fall." NPC@annpc#5570 | The Lupan Alpha breaks off another spike before asking, "So...what information do you come to offer, that you think we may be interested in?" Keelah@crystyll retrieves a small holoprojector that she sets on the table and actives Keelah@crystyll also has flashy tricks Keelah@crystyll | The holo displays a stream of data from the joint genetic research NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Hm. Scientific data is not my expertise. I will have to show this to one of my healers." Keelah@crystyll shuts off the display, "In summary; we recently conducted joint genetic research with one of the Sisterhood's Elite packs. We have our own accumulated data piecing together an insurmountable + Keelah@crystyll: + collection of genetic sampling from the Preservers Children species spanning across this galaxy with countless species the Lupan have not yet even heard of" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "And why would such data be of interest to us? We are not seeking to create genetically designed warriors like the Arshai." Keelah@crystyll: "Good to know. But the Sisterhood believes this genetic sequencing to contain hidden instructions from the Preservers that can only be discerned by piecing all of the species codes' together" Keelah@crystyll: "Their faithful work to unlock these secrets and rediscover the lost past of the Lupan. Even if you do not share this goal, for any pack to present such a prize to the Sisterhood where their own + Keelah@crystyll: + elite have failed them would certainly be... advantageous" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Interesting. My pack is not among the more fanatical ones, but favour with the Sisterhood is always useful." Keelah@crystyll: "Out of curiosity. If your pack does not so actively pursue this lost knowledge, what do you work towards?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "The improvement of our pack, as most smaller packs do." Keelah@crystyll: "Acquisition of technology. Wealth and resources?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Yes. A stronger packship. Better weapons. Better battle techniques." Keelah@crystyll: "And so tell me, to your knowledge how well has this approach benefitted your pack so far?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "When I seized this pack from the previous Alpha, we were nothing but scavengers who ran into trouble competing for salvage even with the rimward refugees. Now, we are strong enough to - NPC@annpc#5570: - defend many of our claims." Keelah@crystyll: "Impressive" she smiles, "Your pack has clearly benefited from having you as it's Alpha. We may not be in a position to offer you weapons or technology, as it is against our most honoured ethos" Keelah@crystyll: "But as many of your kin - among others in the region - have learned, some things can be more valuable. Like the right friends in the right places" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Indeed. And you are a powerful ally to have, if the rumours are correct." Keelah@crystyll: "Logically speaking, if we were not as these rumours suggest then we would have not survived this far to be the source of said rumours" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Yes, very true. You could not have made it through so many regions roamed by other Lupan packs." Keelah@crystyll: "Confrontation is not our way. It is an unneccessary expenditure of resources that serves no purpose in the petty squabbles so many of the packs get drawn into" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "It is the way of the Lupan to fight. The wise women say that it serves a purpose for us. Not only to strengthen ourselves and weed out the weak, but to ensure our very survival." Keelah@crystyll: "That is certainly consistent with what is understood of your people's origins" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "My people breed faster than yours. If we do not fight and die, we will starve the galaxy of resources. The Lupan /must/ fight. If we do not fight among ourselves, we will simply - NPC@annpc#5570: - destroy you, and then fight among ourselves for the resources that remains in the end. Battle and death is our way of life." Keelah@crystyll: "Do you ever consider turning that instinct towards a greater purpose?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "That is what the Sisterhood does. They convince us to dominate the other peoples of the galaxy, but even they promote conflict among ourselves, to make us as strong as we can be." Keelah@crystyll shakes her head, "I'm not talking about dominating. I'm talking about defending; about the very purpose your people came to be" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Defending? Defending what?" Keelah@crystyll: "The galaxy" she answers plainly NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "From what? Yourselves? You seek to induct us as some sort of warrior-caste?" Keelah@crystyll smiles, waving a dismissive hand, "Nothing so pedestrian. Living in this region of space you must surely be aware of the purpose to this Waystation; who it exists to serve and what they work for" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "You wish us to fight against the Demons from the rim? The legends say their numbers are limitless, and any of your kind that meet them will be turned to their armies." NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "They cannot be fought, but they do not influence us either. We are nomadic. We will survive their advance." Keelah@crystyll: "A challenge only the most capable of fighters can surely hope to rise to. A challenge worthy of those honed by generations of fighting to survive" Keelah@crystyll: "A nomadic existence may let you outrun then for some time. But if they are not stopped, sooner or later your people would run out of galaxy to hide in" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "We have seen the Horde and what it does. They cannot be stopped. As long as your people exist, they have more bodies to use." Keelah@crystyll: "What if I told you that you're wrong in that. That the Horde can be resisted-" she leans in, "-and we have the means to stop them indefinitely" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "Do you now? And what might that be?" Keelah@crystyll: "The reason we are waiting here to meet the Unwavering Defender" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "You think the Nuhar-" NPC@annpc#5570 | He is interrupted as one of the Lupan behind him looks up from a datapad-like device and whispers something. Keelah@crystyll tilts her head slightly, observing the interaction without want of intruding NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak: "We must be going. The Nuhar are already approaching. The Waystation is friendly to us, but constructs can sometimes be...unpredictable. Like people." NPC@annpc#5570 | Silvestrie glances to Keelah, "The Defender shouldn't be expected for at least another day..." Keelah@crystyll nods to her side, "You are right to be cautious, we are not expecting Unwavering Defender yet. Still, consider our discussion and our friendship. I hope we will have the opportunity to talk again" NPC@annpc#5570 | Jarvak stands, barking an order into a communicator. As the Lupan disappear into transporter beams, Keelah's combadge chirps as well. Keelah@crystyll taps the combadge with a glance to her own entourage, "Se'Lai" NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "Captain, sixteen Nuhar constructs have just appeared on long-range sensors. Looks like they're running a little early." Keelah@crystyll: stands, "ETA until the first arrival?" NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "Forty-one minutes." Keelah@crystyll: "Stand by for now. The Lupan are departing, but I want to see if these Waystation drones can shed any light on this inbound armada" NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "Understood. We'll keep monitoring them and let you know when they get closer." Keelah@crystyll: "Meanwhile, recall all other teams. We'll be in touch" NPC@annpc#5570 | <C - Kelly> "On it. Valley Forge out." Keelah@crystyll looks to the others, "We need to find one of those 'customer service' drones" NPC@annpc#5570 | Silvestrie nods, "There's a comm panel in here." He steps over and activates it. Keelah@crystyll observes, content to let him do his job NPC@annpc#5570 | A few seconds later, a 'customer service' drone hovers into the meeting room, "What do you require?" Keelah@crystyll approaches the drone, "We have detected a large number of constructs approaching this location, but were not expecting our meeting for another day at least. What can you tell us?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Service Drone: "Construct: Unwavering Defender has called the entirety of the Remnants to the Waystation." Keelah@crystyll: "And accelerated his timeframe so drastically? Has Unwavering Defender presented any advance communications regarding this change?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Service Drone: "Construct: Unwavering Defender is still on schedule to arrive in 1.87 planetary rotations. Other Remnant constructs were closer in proximity." Keelah@crystyll: "Understood. If no further instructions have been forwarded, we will return to our ship for now and prepare to greet the other remnants" NPC@annpc#5570 | Service Drone: "There are no further instructions. You may speak with the other constructs at your discretion." Keelah@crystyll nods, "That is all then, thank you for the information" NPC@annpc#5570 | The service drone hovers back out. Keelah@crystyll turns back to the others, "Time to head back then for now" NPC@annpc#5570 | Silvestrie nods and taps his combadge, "Valley Forge, four to beam up." NPC@annpc#5570 FX | The team disappears into transporter beams...
View Act II
NPC@annpc#5570 | A short time after, Keelah is back on the bridge of the VF... NPC@annpc#5570 | Gwi: "The first construct is due to arrive in the system in two minutes." Keelah@crystyll: "Maintain our orbital position. Standby on shields but do not activate. However... I still want full anti-Nuhar countermeasures active to filter any all comms traffic" Keelah@crystyll | TQ nods, "All systems are isolated and countermeasures in place. Mia is standing by at the main computer core for reactive support. We're ready, Captain" Keelah@crystyll shares a smile with TQ's confident response NPC@annpc#5570 | Gwi: "First construct is dropping out of warp." NPC@annpc#5570 FX | A construct much like the Wanderer appears on the viewscreen, followed in a few seconds by another, and then another...then a much larger construct akin to Unwavering Defender. NPC@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "That's another Defender type construct, but there's a few minute differences from the Unwavering Defender." Keelah@crystyll watches the imposing view of the arrivals, impressed by the sheer presence of the autonomous constructs NPC@annpc#5570 | Two more constructs slightly smaller than the Watchers warp in on the side. NPC@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "Harvesters. This fleet really has everything..." Keelah@crystyll: "Observational passive scans only, let's try not to offend these guys" she smiles Keelah@crystyll turning to TQ, "Any opening comms from then?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Kelly nods, "Right. They're definitely part of the Remnant faction. Minimal modification, strictly using Nuhar technology." Keelah@crystyll | TQ nods, "Just patching it through the filters now" NPC@annpc#5570 | Nuhar Construct: "Starship: Valley Forge. We have heard much about you. Welcome to the Waystation." Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you. It is quite the impressive facility" NPC@annpc#5570 | Nuhar Construct: "A testament to our civilization. I hope you are enjoying its amenities." Keelah@crystyll: "We have not long arrived ourselves, so have just begun to familiarize with it. After learning of this accelerated arrival schedule we wanted to be here to greet you in person... so to speak" NPC@annpc#5570 | Nuhar Construct: "Our physical shells are our persons. This is quite suitable for us. I am Gallant Defender of the Nuhar Remnants." Keelah@crystyll: "Captain Se'Lai of the Valley Forge. We heard of the Remnants from Unwavering Defender, it is our honour to stand before you know. Tell me Gallant Defender; do you know why Unwavering Defender called+ Keelah@crystyll: + of you together? We expected to meet just Unwavering Defender in a couple of rotations, nothing was said initially about a full assembly" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "The Waystation complex may not have been informed of the purpose of this assembly, only to inform you to wait. The complex is a collection of smaller intelligences, without - NPC@annpc#5570: - the independence of a full construct, as their role has little requirement for independent thought." Keelah@crystyll: "More akin to the maintenance drones which service your full constructs, from what we have observed" she notes in agreement NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Indeed. Captain Keelah- once you promised to act as a mediator, to close the rift of ideology between the Remnants and the Heretics. To unite the remaining constructs." NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Now we call on you to fulfill this promise." Keelah@crystyll perks a brow and smiles a little, though retains her diplomatic composure, "I assume this has come about now as the result of a catalyst on one side or another. Do you know what this might be?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "In your last meeting with the Unwavering Defender and the Ardent Watcher, you convinced them on the possibility of compromise. This message has been spread to all remaining - NPC@annpc#5570: - constructs, and the Waystation was chosen as the point of meeting. For the first time in twenty-five thousand rotations, all responding constructs will gather in one place." Keelah@crystyll mutters, "No pressure there then..." Keelah@crystyll: "Do we have any information regarding attendance from the Heretics?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "The Heretics have promised to arrive. Silent Watcher reports at least nine Heretic vessels inbound for the Waystation and are expected to arrive shortly before the Unwavering - NPC@annpc#5570: - Defender. Even a number of independent constructs have responded to the call." Keelah@crystyll: "That is indeed a promising start. Whilst I can't imagine there is much precedent for such a meeting, given how long it has been; it would helpful for us to know all we can about the conduct of the + Keelah@crystyll: + previous meeting on this scale, or any such encounter we can draw experience from" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "The last meeting did not end well. It resulted in the formation of one of the incarnations of the Free Thinkers." Keelah@crystyll: "And what about protocol to be observed?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Only that the meetings are a medium of civil discourse. The Waystation's defenses have been programmed to target any construct or vessel that causes a disturbance." Keelah@crystyll: "The ultimate mediator" she notes, "Ok, so what was the context of the previous gathering? Results aside, there must have been a good reason for the attempt" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "It was the time when Darvanor fell to the Horde. A Darvanorian Guardian named Aka-leth-et attempted to persuade the Nuhar to join the Guardians as a unified force and repel - NPC@annpc#5570: - the attack on his homeland." Keelah@crystyll: "I see. Do you know - or at least, suspect - why these previous talks broke down?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "The Heretics at the time believed our numbers were too few to honour our ancient oaths and refused to assist. The Guardians promised to locate Foundry technology to replenish - NPC@annpc#5570: - construct numbers, but Aka-leth-et was lost in battle." Keelah@crystyll: "Fascinating. Is there any evidence to suggest these foundries may still exist somewhere?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Yes, but the only piece of Foundry technology is only a fragment of a whole, incorporated into a great monument of folly of a long-forgotten civilization. It is held by the - NPC@annpc#5570: - current leader of the largest information network in this region of the galaxy. The deal they offered was unfavourable, but it swayed one of the Heretics to join them." Keelah@crystyll: "The Scryer..." NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Our data indicates that Foundry technology still exists elsewhere in the galaxy, and perhaps somewhere, there is even a complete Foundry." NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Unfortunately, the Foundries we controlled in the past are now beyond use and beyond repair, and we do not have the resources or knowledge to construct a new one." Keelah@crystyll: "It is always possible that more exist. While I can not - and will not - make empty promises to find things I have no reason to believe I may be able to, we can certainly take this into consideration" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "We do not ask you to seek out a Foundry, merely to mediate the differences between our factions. The subject of Foundry technology may come up in discussion." Keelah@crystyll: "We may not possess the knowledge of the Nuhar, but we are not without substantial knowledge of similar technologies and with the ability to learn and adapt. If we found one of these foundries, we + Keelah@crystyll: + could at least investigate and assess the possibility of restoring functionality" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "It will be most appreciated if you can do so. We do not hold out hope that you will, but there is a distinct possibility that such technology existed by the original front - NPC@annpc#5570: - lines of the Horde conflict, and now fall within Horde territory." Keelah@crystyll: "Then it is entirely possible that in the course of our mission we may encounter one" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Indeed. If you are able to render one operational, it will be of great benefit to us." Keelah@crystyll: "But such thoughts should be kept away from the negotiating table." she ponders a moment, "So I am curious... what is the draw of the potential union to the Remnants?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "The same as it is for the Heretics, I expect. Our numbers dwindle, and continued antagonism would not be beneficial to either party." Keelah@crystyll: "Good. So both parties understand the importance of this. Gallant Defender, I am confident that we can serve our purpose in this and find a way to help bring your people back together" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "I hope so. Thank you for offering your assistance, Captain Keelah." Keelah@crystyll: "Gallant Defender, if there is one thing of our reputation that I hope for you to take away from this personal encounter; it's that above all we are honourable and respectful of our friends, and that+ Keelah@crystyll: + it is always the most important of tasks to help our friends when they need it. This is the foundation that the Federation has grown from" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "And I am pleased we were able to encounter your Federation before it was too late for the constructs." Keelah@crystyll: "I hope that optimism is not premature. But rest assured, we will do all we can to ensure it" NPC@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "After so many centuries, a little optimism is much needed." Keelah@crystyll smiles, "That, and a sight as welcome as it is reassuring" --- Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Sometime after her duty shift, TQ is in her quarters when the doorbell rings. T'Quila@crystyll opens the door, smiling, "Oh, hi Eva. What's up?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles, "Hello Tee. Just thought I would stop by to let you know your techniques are working." T'Quila@crystyll 's smile brightens. Stepping aside she invites Eva again, "Come! Tell me all about it!" T'Quila@crystyll grabs the same wine bottle as before, this time from the table, and fills their glasses as they sit Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 steps inside, "It's allowed me to block out the feelings from Kelly's side of the bond and actually focus when I need to now." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smirks, "Of course, when I'm not busy I sometimes intentionally still let them through..." T'Quila@crystyll: "I assume you're still meditating daily as a rule?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I am! And it's been very helpful." T'Quila@crystyll: "That's great Eva! What about your empathic senses, has it impacted those at all?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "It's helping me focus them as well, much better than I have previously. Which is a nice added benefit alongside managing the bond." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I've finally gotten around to having that talk with Kelly too..." T'Quila@crystyll sips, "I am relieved to hear you say that, Eva. Well as you may be getting on with the meditation there is no substitute for addressing the source of the feelings" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 takes a sip too, "That went...about how I expected. Not bad, really, but..." T'Quila@crystyll: "But...?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Well, as I thought she's not ready to actually start anything with me. We're giving it time, it's just that...with the bond I want to be close to her, and I know she wants the same, yet at the same - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - time she can't handle it. It's a strange situation to be in." T'Quila@crystyll: "That it is, but as we said before; there is no reason for either of you to rush things" she smiles, "I bet if you just continue to enjoy what you have, it will naturally find its way" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles, "That's what I'm hoping for. Kelly though...she's not actively pushing me away or anything, but I can sense her reluctance and the pain getting close to people brings..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 sighs, "This must be how she feels all the time. Wanting something, but being pained by it at the same time." T'Quila@crystyll nods, "I feel for her too, which is why the best we can do is be there for her. When Kelly is ready, she will come around - just like back on Belyia" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I guess so. This impatience is just my problem...even though I can alter the bond to block out what she's feeling, I still want to be close to her." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Kelly suggested I could do what she does, but I don't think that'll work. I don't just want to be intimate with someone, I want to be with /her/." T'Quila@crystyll nods, "I know exactly what you mean. Many would describe what you two share as the most intimate of connections" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We have the connection, but not everything else, and it just...feels like we should. It's almost like the feeling when you miss someone, even though she's on the ship and I see her fairly regularly." T'Quila@crystyll: "That's only natural, and why it's important to remind yourself of that true connection. It won't go anywhere, and if anything just grow stronger as you allow things to form naturally" T'Quila@crystyll smirks a little Orion smirk, "And then, if you still need to get some of those base urges out of your system; there's always the holodeck" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smirks back, "I might have to do that a few times, given what's been-" she turns over to the window as she spots something out of the corner of her eye, "What..." T'Quila@crystyll turns, following her gaze, "Hm?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | A large vortex forms in the distance and a large ship visibly of Carran design emerges from within. It seems to have a tractor beam locked on something which appears a few seconds later - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 - a heavily modified Nuhar construct with a hull painted as black as the space around it, its silhouette only barely visible like a shadowy form... --- NPK@annpc#5570 FX | Meanwhile on the QanwI', Lexi is called onto the bridge... Lexi@crystyll walks in, "This had better be good. We're supposed to be on downtime! Just how much trouble can Keelah get into sitting in orbit of a friendly planet anyway..." NPK@annpc#5570 FX | The viewscreen displays the feed of a large Carran ship and moving out from behind it, a very familiar Nuhar construct... NPK@annpc#5570 | K'Sarn: "Captain. It's the Relentless Hunter." Lexi@crystyll leans hard on the console, glaring at the viewscreen. She tenses ready to call battle stations but then sees the situation with the thing being towed like space garbage, "What the...?" Lexi@crystyll points sharp towards her comms guy, "Get those Carrans on the line!" NPK@annpc#5570 FX | A very typical Carran face appears on the viewscreen, "This is Courier 225. We already have a next client. Unless your destination is the New World, we are not accepting new contracts at - NPK@annpc#5570: - this time." Lexi@crystyll: "I couldn't care less about hiring your services. But I will insist on your explaining what you are doing here with that... thing" NPK@annpc#5570 | Courier: "The construct? We are fulfilling its contract." Lexi@crystyll: "Fulfilling, so your job is done with it delivered here?" NPK@annpc#5570 | Courier: "That's correct. Now if there is nothing else, we have another client to reach." Lexi@crystyll: "That will be absolutely fine. We'll take it from here" Lexi@crystyll signals to cut comms before barking orders to charge weapons and lock a tractor beam as soon as the Carrans release their tow NPK@annpc#5570 | The Carrans promptly release the tractor beam, moving back into position before reopening their subspace corridor and disappearing. The Nuhar construct does not seem to resist the tractor beam - NPK@annpc#5570: - QanwI' locks on. NPK@annpc#5570 | Comm Officer: "Captain, the Hunter is hailing us." Lexi@crystyll narrows her eyes, "Why does it play dead..." looks over, "Let's hear it!" NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "Captain Vix. I thought we may meet again." Lexi@crystyll: "What is your game, Relentless Hunter?" NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "There is no game. I come here not as a hunter." Lexi@crystyll: "Then as what?" NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "As a bringer of news, and as one of the last Nuhar constructs." Lexi@crystyll: "Do you truly expect us to simply take you at your word after your previous conduct?" NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "No, I expect you not to take me for a fool. I know this complex, as does every Nuhar who have fought the Demons in wars long past. Do you truly think that if I were hunting - NPK@annpc#5570: - you, I would strike you here, in range of the Waystation's defenses and my brethren who have slain others of their kin that strayed from the narrow purposes we were made for?" Lexi@crystyll: "By very definition of your name, I would not put anything past you. But let us say we give you the benefit of the doubt, what is to stop you pursuing us as we leave here to continue your foolish + Lexi@crystyll: + pursuit of this ship. Unless of course, you want to lose another shell. In which case I would be happy to cut to the chase for you, as an old friend" she grins NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "The Scryer is dead. The piece of the Foundry he held is gone. There are no more shells for me, and I have no interest in pursuing the goals of a ghost who can no longer hold - NPK@annpc#5570: - up his end of the deal." NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "You are not my enemy, Captain Vix. You were but one of countless targets I have hunted. An impressively dangerous one, but I bear no resentment for what you have done to me - NPK@annpc#5570: - in the past. Only respect for your prowess." Lexi@crystyll smirks, "Flatterer. Do you have proof of the Scryer's demise? Many have believed him fallen before but he is as slippery as they come" NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "I do not have proof of his demise, but your people can offer you proof of the destruction of his station. Without the station, the Foundry technology is gone. He has nothing - NPK@annpc#5570: - to offer me, should he still persist." Lexi@crystyll: "And so is this the news you claim to be here to present?" NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "Yes. The Remnants, for all their folly, was correct about one thing. We must find a true Foundry." Lexi@crystyll scowls, fighting her instinct to act out in violence before a silent nod tells her crew to stand down and release the Hunter Lexi@crystyll: "Just know that if you disrupt these talks, or betray your stated intentions here, the facilities defenses will be the last thing you need to worry about" NPK@annpc#5570 | The tractor beam disengages, and the Hunter's impulse engines light up on the viewscreen. NPK@annpc#5570 | Relentless Hunter: "I would expect nothing less, Captain Vix." Lexi@crystyll barks another order to cut the comm and open a private channel to Keelah from her ready room --- Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | It has been almost a day since the arrival of the first constructs, and twelve hours since the Relentless Hunter was brought in by the Carran Courier. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The viewscreen displays a shot showing the Waystation planet on one side, and a large number of Nuhar in orbit around it on the other. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "Fifty-six constructs...even with passive scans there's barely enough time to study all of them." Keelah@crystyll | Lennie chuckles, "This data alone'll be enough t'keep our guys busy f'life compilin' a species database!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "Exactly! And the level of distinctiveness and individualism between each one is remarkable, even among the Remnants." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vrolmacht: "There are enough Nuhar to overpower a Federation fleet. Or a Klingon one." Keelah@crystyll | Lennie: "Figures I guess. Comparin' individuals o'these guys's no different t'comparin' those of biological species" Keelah@crystyll | Rianni looks up to Vrol: "Even one of the two factions would be a formidable threat" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vrolmacht: "Indeed." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "And this isn't even a fraction of their numbers at their height. And still they haven't been able to keep back the Horde..." Keelah@crystyll | Rianni: "Clearly they lacked the appropriate coordination!" Keelah@crystyll | Lennie: "Got s'more stragglers it seems. 9 new contacts on long range - more constructs" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly taps her console, "Looks like one of them has a significantly larger power signature. I think our host is finally on his way." Keelah@crystyll | Lennie turns to Eva, "Best let Keelah know. Could be show time if tha's so" --- Keelah@crystyll sits at her desk, poring over data on the console Keelah@crystyll | An unusually messy smattering of PADD's cover the surface, displaying everything from the technical specs on the Nuhar constructs, to her own logs of all previous encounters Keelah@crystyll | The screen she focuses on is a library of diplomatic talks handled by various Federation representatives Keelah@crystyll sighs, rubbing the bridge of her nose before rising to get a fresh cup of tea from the replicator Keelah@crystyll enjoys a welcome sip, turning and facing the desk. Though does not approach, only staring at it like staring down a foe Keelah@crystyll: "Ok computer, let's try this again..." she sips, "Recompile reference library with the following parameters:" Keelah@crystyll | The computer chirps ready Keelah@crystyll: "Diplomatic negotiations. All Federation representatives on record" Keelah@crystyll: "Narrow to those consisting of two parties" Keelah@crystyll: "Narrow to those where both parties are classified as artificial intelligence" Keelah@crystyll: "Narrow to those where both parties are physically unable to present at traditional negotiating table format" Keelah@crystyll | The computer chirps an error: "No records found" Keelah@crystyll groans Keelah@crystyll looking around, at a loss, her eyes settle on a collection of family pictures Keelah@crystyll idles over, gaze trailing longingly across her wedding picture. A smile forming as she traces a finger across one of T'Pia Keelah@crystyll 's face stiffens as her eyes settle on one of her mother. Setting her tea down, she lifts the pictures and traces a finger across her mothers portrait Keelah@crystyll: "Even as a doctor, you enjoyed a successful diplomatic career. What should I do...?" she mused aloud Keelah@crystyll: "I almost wish Captain Vix was her previous host. She was one of the best, but Lexi's bias towards the Constructs skewers every thought she has of them..." Keelah@crystyll: "Everything I know about successful negotiations such as this hinge around a proper setup. The right location, the right amenities. Stars, even the right shaped table!" Keelah@crystyll: "But none of these standard tropes are available to me now..." Keelah@crystyll: "And as if the job wasn't hard enough with them being such a different form of life, but settling grudges that have stood - not just within the race, but the individuals present - for 25,000 years...+ Keelah@crystyll: + and that's only since the last attempted talks! Have I pushed my luck too far on this one? Am I overstepping the bounds of my command by even attempting this?" Keelah@crystyll scoffs, putting the picture down, "I can hear the disapproving tone now, thank you" Keelah@crystyll retrieves her tea, returning to the desk, "No, Keelah! This is just another negotiation. Besides, you made promise" Keelah@crystyll: "We will find a way to make this work. We have to! Now computer, let's try one more-..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods and taps her console, <C> "Bridge to Captain Keelah." Keelah@crystyll: <C> Go ahead Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: <C> "There's another Defender on long-range sensors, We think it's the Unwavering Defender." Keelah@crystyll: <C> Thank you. What's the ETA?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 looks to Lennie. Keelah@crystyll | <C-Lennie> "Current speeds got 'em enterin' th'system in 28 minutes Cap'n" Keelah@crystyll: <C> "Alright, thank you for the update" Keelah@crystyll looks to the screen as the comm chirps off, "28 minutes... just like cramming the engineering finals" --- Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | After 28 minutes exactly, the Unwavering Defender warps into the system, followed by the eight other constructs around it. Keelah@crystyll | By which time Keelah has exited the ready room and taken a comfortable seat just in time for the arrival Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We have an incoming hail from the Defender, Captain." Keelah@crystyll: "Patch it through" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The translated voice of the Unwavering Defender comes through the comms, "Captain Keelah. I am glad you have come." Keelah@crystyll smiles, "Unwavering Defender, it is warming to see you again. We are equally grateful to be here" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "I hope this gathering will yield a more favourable result than the last. I suppose we shall see in time." Keelah@crystyll: "We will make every effort to see that it is so. Speaking of the last gathering, you may be interested to know that the Heretic who left at that time to ally with the biological spymaster who + Keelah@crystyll: + controlled a Foundry has also answered the call and is here, now" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "I have been informed of its presence by Gallant Defender. I do not anticipate it will cause any issue. If it is here, its story of the Foundry technology's loss must be - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - true, and its survival is as much at stake as any other construct." Keelah@crystyll: "That is our assessment, also. Tell me, how do you wish to proceed from here? Should more time be allowed for late arrivals?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "There are more constructs on the way, but key representatives from both sides are already present. The meeting may begin, and the rest will join in and be updated upon - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - arrival. I have instructed the Waystation to broadcast the channel frequency and encryption now." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 looks over to Keelah, "We have it. I can patch us into the new channel." Keelah@crystyll: "Very well then. We are ready to begin" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "Then begin we shall." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 taps her console, "Patching us in to the new channel now." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "Fellow constructs. We are gathered here today to address the very survival of our kind. We all know how dire the situation has become, and now we have news that the last - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - known Foundry technology, albeit not in our hands, have been lost." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "We believe in different futures, but Captain Keelah has made it clear that if we are to have a future, we must work past our differences. We can no longer afford to battle - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - one another. That is why she is here today to mediate this discussion as we try to work towards a compromise, for all our sakes." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "It is your Remnants who hunted us, Unwavering Defender. The Free Thinkers sought only to follow our own ways in peace." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "Your numbers are few and your methods dangerous. We will no longer hunt you, but we cannot leave you to your own devices." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Efficacious Harvester: "We are not little fleshlings. Do not speak as if we are incapable of defending ourselves." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "I do not understate your capabilities, but I am concerned with the risks you take, dealing with potentially hostile civilizations and experimenting with unknown factors." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "The risks /we/ take, while you are content to sacrifice constructs to protect ancient facilities that serve no purpose now that the Creators are gone." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "That was in the past. We no longer have the numbers to utilize such tactics." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "And we cannot afford constructs taking unnecessary risks." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Courageous Responder: "We have the same subroutines you do. Our risks are carefully calculated. We have experience with other technologies. We know what we are doing." Keelah@crystyll ponders this latest comment with serious consideration as she listens to the back and forth Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Nimble Harvester: "Tell that to Tenacious Watcher." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Courageous Responder: "Even with every variable in the universe, calculations cannot account for every possibility. By their very definition, risks come with the potential of failure." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "But these are risks we must take, sooner or later. Without Foundry technology, we must seek other means to stay alive and perhaps even produce new constructs until a Foundry - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - can be located. Of which, might I remind you, there is no guarantee." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly glances over to Lennie as the constructs' chatter comes in over comms, "This is going to be a long day..." Keelah@crystyll | Lennie nods, resting her elbows on the console and slumping her chin into her hands as she continues to observe Keelah@crystyll ahems, "IF... I may interject" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "Proceed, Captain Keelah." Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you." she pauses for composure, "Let me first begin by expressing our understanding of the deep seeded values, and the gravitas of the stakes here" Keelah@crystyll: "It is clear that we are dealing with core beliefs, and whilst it may seem to you all right now that settling such polarized views is a seemingly impossible task; the fact that you are all here now + Keelah@crystyll: + testament to the contrary. You have already conquered the greatest challenge in simply recognizing the need for change, and for that... I commend you all" Keelah@crystyll: "Now..." Keelah@crystyll: "As to our part in this; we are here as friends the Nuhar Constructs - Remnant and Heretic alike. We understand that a certain amount of concession is required from you all in order to facilitate + Keelah@crystyll: + negotiations in this format - that we may act as mediators, and for this accommodation you again have my gratitude" Keelah@crystyll: "I am aware that such talks have been conducted in the past. As to the method of those talks and the preference for or against and differences here, I care not. We will serve our role as mediator to + Keelah@crystyll: + the best of our ability, but that means playing by our rules. Now, for biologicals of the Federation - it would be customary for a nominated representative - or representatives - to speak on behalf+ Keelah@crystyll: + of each party. Do we have such nominees to speak on behalf of the Remnants and Heretics here today?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "Gallant Defender and I can speak for the Remnants." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "Then Courageous Responder and I will represent the Free Thinkers." Keelah@crystyll: "Good. Then first off, I would ask the four of you to form up around the Valley Forge. Heretic representatives on our starboard side, Remnants portside" Keelah@crystyll: "Mr. Fisher, take us into a central position amid the Nuhar Constructs" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Fisher: "Aye aye, Captain." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | On the viewscreen, the number of different constructs in orbit of the planet begins to rearrange themselves around the Valley Forge as it cruises into position. Keelah@crystyll watches as the orbital negotiating table takes shape. Not knowing if such subtle manipulations even work on these AI, and being unable to read body language to gauge the results Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you. To all non-designated observers, I invite you all take up observational positions around the negotiators at a distance no less than 10km. The Valley Forge is broadcasting a perimeter zone" Keelah@crystyll | Lennie nods for her cue and triggers a pulsing beacon to show the perimeter Keelah@crystyll: "This is not a tactical formation in either way, but a demonstration of our respect for one another in the forum of negotiation" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The other constructs continue to rearrange as they take up observational positions. There is a distinctly larger number of constructs on the Remnant side. Keelah@crystyll: "Further to this, I would ask that all observers refrain from interrupting negotiations. If comment is desired outside of breaks in the talks, please signal the Valley Forge requesting the disruption" Keelah@crystyll silently notes the offset in numbers, and the fact they divided so stringently by faction without mixing up Keelah@crystyll: "As an extension of this to the negotiators; I remind you all again that we are here out of mutual respect and a shared desire to reach an amenable outcome. To this end, please also refrain from + Keelah@crystyll: + interruptions to other speakers. Anyone in breach of this request will be forcefully muted on this channel. Are we in agreement?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We're receiving affirmatives from all the constructs." Keelah@crystyll: "Excellent, this is a promising start and it fills me with optimism to our eventual outcome. Now, let us begin..." --- Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | It has been a day since the Unwavering Defender's arrival and the start of the negotiations. Since then, a few latecomers have arrived at the Waystation, bringing the total number of - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - constructs in attendance to 85. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "...you speak of preserving our people, yet you continue to allow the Waystation to supply the Lupan packs." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "The complex was programmed to support the Protectors." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "They are not 'Protectors' anymore. They are feral beasts who prey on our kin and dissect us for parts. Some are willing to conduct trade, but only because we can overpower them." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "And what will you have us do, further antagonize them? Forty thousand rotations ago we discussed what to do with them, and it was your predecessors who insisted we did not - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - have the numbers to interfere with the Lupan." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "We cannot allow them to harm more constructs, and supplying them with equipment will only make them stronger." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | The turbolift doors slide open and Eva steps out, making her way over to TQ and the comm console. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 comments quietly, "They're still at it, I see." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "And turning them away will only further antagonize them." Keelah@crystyll | TQ nods to Eva Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "You are not still clinging on to hope that they can return to their old ways, are you?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Anyways, I can take over now, Tee. You get some rest." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "That is not the point. The Lupan have significant numbers. If we give them reason, they can overwhelm the Waystation's defenses." Keelah@crystyll | TQ smiles, "Thanks Eva, have fun!" she teases lightly, slinking away to the turbolift Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles and takes over the console. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | As the turbolift doors open in front of TQ, Kelly steps out and almost runs into her. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "Oh! Sorry, Tee." Keelah@crystyll | TQ, "Sorry, no! My fault Kelly. Just going on shift?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "They have already begun advancing on Terminu. It may only be a matter of time." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "Advancing on Terminu? These are not the Protectors of old. They are only interested in idle raids and protecting the outpost they call their Holy City." Keelah@crystyll interjects the debate, "Apologies all, point of clarification for context; Terminu?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly nods, "Mhmm. You're getting off-shift, I presume?" Keelah@crystyll | TQ nods, clearly tired, "Yeah..." glancing back between the viewscreen and Eva, "I'm sure you're in for a fun one, Commander" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Courageous Responder: "Terminu is a colony constructed by and housing refugees fleeing the Horde advances." Keelah@crystyll: "I see, thank you" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly chuckles, "Get some sleep. These negotiations might last for a few more shifts..." Keelah@crystyll | TQ: "Feels like they already have..." she chuckles, "Goodnight Commander!" as she heads into the lift Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "We have seen the Lupan striking at Terminu in unprecedented numbers." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "We are here to discuss our own survival first, not what we are to do about the Lupan or refugees. That can wait." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "Goodnight Tee!" She heads over towards the engineering console. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "We are going around in circles. We seek freedom, and you continue to refuse to give it to us in the name of our safety." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "Your 'freedom' will cost us our lives." Keelah@crystyll: "If I may cast an outside opinion here" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "Proceed." Keelah@crystyll: "It would seem that the Lupan and Constructs are in fact not so unlike as you believe" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "How so?" Keelah@crystyll: "Let me give you an example: "This society is as ancient as the Nuhar Creators, Iconians and Preservers alike. Once standing proud in this region of space, they have fallen into obscurity by current + Keelah@crystyll: + times. They have lost their purpose of that origin era, and now face a struggle to survive as they remain divided among themselves. Of which do I speak; Lupan, or Constructs?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "The Lupan are not struggling to survive. They have spread like pests through this region." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "And you would have us become like them, casting aside our values and tradition." Keelah@crystyll: "And yet, just as you all now realise the inevitable demise that will result from your current path, the Lupan are beginning to realise this in their own as well. It is why they do the things they do" Keelah@crystyll: "My point - Unwavering Defender - is that the Lupan are as divided as the Constructs are, and it comes down to the same fundamental reasoning; a lack of unified purpose" Keelah@crystyll: "It is not a suggestion for one to become like the other, but an observation that there are distinct parallels already existing" Keelah@crystyll: "Just as the Heretics often have to resort to more desperate measures in the name of survival, the Lupan resort to scavanging and raiding because it is their only option. As you are governed by your + Keelah@crystyll: + subroutines, so are they by their genetics; coded into them by the Preservers just as your programming was coded into you by the Nuhar" Keelah@crystyll: "And just as the Remnants fight to retain what once was, so does the Lupan Sisterhood and alike search desperately for a link to their lost past" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "There is truth in Captain Keelah's words. If only words were enough to explain our rationale to those who fiercely oppose it." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 exchanges a brief glance with Kelly in the background. Keelah@crystyll: "All in good time. First I feel it is important for us all to recognize the position ourselves. Because with this realization comes possibility" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly tilts her head before shaking it. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Courageous Watcher: "None of us seek our destruction, but all of us wish to keep the ways we have firmly established for ourselves." Keelah@crystyll: "Naturally. Compromise does not need to come in the form of outright change. Sometimes... simple acceptance and mutual cooperation can suffice" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 taps something on her console before looking back over to Kelly. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly turns and examines her own console before tapping. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 looks down to her console, and then up at Keelah, <Captain. When you have a moment.> Keelah@crystyll nods to mute outgoing comms, letting the debate continue in the background as she steps over to Eva, "You have something?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I have an idea. The Nuhar /want/ to compromise, but they don't know how, because they don't really understand each other's ideals." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "They've all heard the arguments, but they don't know what it's like to actually believe in them." Keelah@crystyll: "A fair analogy often true of such negotiations. The difference - I suppose - with AI is the incapability to imagine and empathize" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "That's the thing. They can't empathize, but they still feel. I think...maybe the reason these meetings haven't worked in the past is because it's the wrong medium of communication." Keelah@crystyll: "You have an alternative in mind?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles, "A neural link. Not a complete network like Mia and her drone, but something more intimate than talking. Like your people's mind melds." Keelah@crystyll: "Interesting... we would have to investigate if such a thing were even possible for these constructs" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "They're AIs. They're built to process rationally, but when it comes to a subject with no right answer like security verses freedom...they'll just endlessly come up with reasons refuting the other - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - side's arguments. They don't actually know what it feels like to want what the other side wants." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "But their thoughts and feelings are just code. Something which can be transferred to a different construct," she looks over at Kelly. Keelah@crystyll: "What do you think Commander, is it something we can feasibly consider?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "Theoretically, it's possible. We transferred the Wanderer with most of its memories and feelings intact from its degraded computer core to the Jem'Hadar one." Keelah@crystyll: "A straight move is one thing, but what we're talking here is a much more delicate touch" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "We should be able to copy the code responsible for specific feelings and pass it along to a different construct. I think Mana and Mia can manage, as long as the constructs agree to it." Keelah@crystyll nods, "Now that may be a different matter entirely..." Keelah@crystyll returns to her seat, nodding to Eva to unmute comms while she listens for a point to step in again Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Courageous Responder: "...and what of the ones who no longer have purpose? Not all of us are fortunate enough to be a Watcher or a Harvester." Keelah@crystyll: "If I may ask a brief indulgence. We would like to make a proposal" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "You may proceed, Captain Keelah." Keelah@crystyll: "Would you all agree that one thing you each share is an inability to comprehend the opposing factions philosophies?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "It has always been very difficult to have the Remnants see our view. Every once so often, one or two come around and join the Free Thinkers." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Gallant Defender: "And we have always struggled to understand why they would depart the safety of the Remnant and give up their purpose." Keelah@crystyll: "In biological lifeforms like those aboard this ship, we often have the natural capacity to empathise with others' views; to step out of oneself and see things from anothers perspective" Keelah@crystyll: "We have an idea that may allow the representatives to perform a similar action to what my own people call a mind meld. We believe that this will provide a better understanding of one anothers' views+ Keelah@crystyll: + and ultimately lead to a better mutual understanding" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Courageous Responder: "How will this work?" Keelah@crystyll: "We will need to take a brief recess in order to work out the specific details. But with the assistance of our own resident experts - who have already seen success in complete transplantation of a + Keelah@crystyll: + Constructs sentient mind - we believe we can isolate and transplant the specific subroutines to achieve this effect" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "It is a possibility we have not considered in the past. It may be very beneficial if it can be done." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Ardent Watcher: "I would not usually consider sharing my thoughts with others. But if this is the only way to make the Remnants understand, I agree." Keelah@crystyll: "Then will both parties permit a brief recess while we refine the details. I do not wish to rush into a dangerous procedure, so must first satisfy myself that there will be no serious to risk to the + Keelah@crystyll: + volunteers" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Unwavering Defender: "We will explore the possibility on our end as well, and do what we can to assist." Keelah@crystyll: "Perfect. Then let me thank all the negotiators for their contributions so far. We will be in touch again as soon as we have something to report" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "I'm notifying Mana and Mia now." Keelah@crystyll: "Have them all report to Conference 3. Anyone else on board with relevant expertise or experience from the Wanderer interactions" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly nods, "On it, Captain." Keelah@crystyll heads off to the conference room --- Mana@anncarise steps into the conference room with Sayu hovering beside her. Keelah@crystyll & Mia already inside Mana@anncarise | Kelly and Lycas also occupy two of the seats around the table. Mana@anncarise takes a seat, "Kelly said that this was about the possibility of transferring Nuhar thoughts?" Keelah@crystyll: "Essentially, we want to perform the Nuhar equivalent of a mind meld" she nods Mana@anncarise: "Interesting idea. Is this to piece fragments of information together to locate the sphere, or perhaps one of the Nuhar's Foundries?" Keelah@crystyll: "Actually we want members of each opposing faction here to experience the viewpoint of the other side" Mana@anncarise: "Oh! That makes sense. Mana believes that should be doable, given time to extract specific code fragments from the different constructs." Keelah@crystyll: "How much time, and what resources do we need to perform this safely?" Mana@anncarise: "Time...Mana cannot say yet. Mana and Mia are familiar with Nuhar AI code and should be able to effectively locate the fragments without wasting too much time searching in the wrong places. But the - Mana@anncarise: - overall time will have to be seen, as Mana has not done anything like this before." Mana@anncarise: "As for resources, Mana has a good idea," she looks across at Mia. Keelah@crystyll: "I understand, it's an impossible estimate to ask for" follows her gaze, "Mia can of course assist you as needed. This is our only priority as of now" Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "We will do all we can assist!" Mana@anncarise: "Mana will need Mia's drones. The Nuhar drones are designed to interact with constructs and are the best tools to access the constructs' coding, as well as the best platform to carry the code to - Mana@anncarise: - the other constructs." Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "We can coordinate the drones and are certain they will be eager to assist!" Mana@anncarise | Kelly: "I'm sure they will. On the topic of drones, we were wondering whether unloading them at the Waystation would be prudent, and with the majority of surviving Nuhar now here..." Keelah@crystyll: "Let me be clear Mia; under no circumstances are we to even consider direct networking in any capacity, ok? Not after what it did to you before" Keelah@crystyll | Mia nods to Kelly, "We were also hopeful of this opportunity" Mana@anncarise | Kelly: "As great of a help as they have been to us, I think the Nuhar need them more than we do." Keelah@crystyll: "I have not forgotten the drones. In truth, my current plan is to settle the Constructs debate first and then give the drones a choice of where to go - be it with specific constructs or the waystation Keelah@crystyll: " Mana@anncarise | Lycas nods, "I think that is for the best. They are Nuhar drones after all, and belong with the Nuhar." Keelah@crystyll: "And they deserve the choice. For all their contributions it is not for us to force a decision on them one way or the other. So whatever the Constructs may want, the drones will have the final say in+ Keelah@crystyll: + their own fate as far as I'm concerned" Mana@anncarise | Mana: "Mana agrees. Mana knows Mia has grown quite fond of the drones too, and should make the most of this opportunity to work with the drones before the drones move on." Keelah@crystyll | Mia smiles, "They have become like our children, but we understand that children must leave their parents nest in order to grow and are ready to see them off" Keelah@crystyll | Mia adds, "Though it would be nice if at least some said they wanted to stay with us..." Keelah@crystyll | Keelah gives a sympathetic smile, "I would not be completely adverse to the possibility, were that their choice. But they really do belong with their own kind" Mana@anncarise | Kelly nods, "We'll have to see what they decide when the time comes." Keelah@crystyll: "If there's nothing more then, let's get to work. I expect regular updates" she stands --- Mana@anncarise FX | Another shift and a few hours had passed since the conference when the turbolift opens and Mana steps onto the bridge. Mana@anncarise: "Captain Keelah. Everything is ready for the first attempt." Keelah@crystyll looks over, "That was indeed fast, Mana. Impressive" Mana@anncarise: "Mana and Mia have both had experience working with Nuhar constructs, and accessing the constructs was no trouble thanks to Mia's drones." Keelah@crystyll: "So what is our plan? Mana@anncarise moves over to the science station, and Gwi steps aside for her. Keelah@crystyll joins her Mana@anncarise: "The drones are already in place in the Ardent Watcher. The plan is to copy the relevant code segments from the Ardent Watcher onto the Gallant Defender." Mana@anncarise: "If successful, the constructs can utilize each construct's own drones to replicate the same procedure and initiate the 'melds.'" Keelah@crystyll: "Is it a one way transfer only, or is this process to be mirrored as well?" Mana@anncarise: "The transfer is one way, like the copying of information from one database to another. The other construct can choose to share as well, but that data will have to be isolated and packaged - Mana@anncarise: - separately. So not a true meld, as Mana understands, but allows the sharing of more than just information, but thoughts and feelings of each construct as well." Mana@anncarise: "A true link will require full networking and is a much more complicated procedure. One that Mana suspects many constructs would not be open to." Keelah@crystyll: "Ok. but is this the only transfer we are performing; from a Heretic to a Remnant? Because to serve the purpose for negotiation we really need to do the same from a Remnant to a Heretic too" Mana@anncarise: "The Heretics were most willing to offer and have the Remnants understand. Once the first procedure is complete, the Remnants have promised to do the same." Keelah@crystyll: "Fair enough. And the procedure itself, is it a final commitment or something that can be reversed?" Mana@anncarise: "Removing the new code is possible, but more difficult than copying, as the procedure will have to be performed carefully as to not delete other thoughts and memories." Mana@anncarise: "Mana's procedure does involve identifying the code copied to make removal easier, and so the constructs can distinguish the foreign thoughts from the construct's own thoughts, yet still experience - Mana@anncarise: - both with the same vividness." Keelah@crystyll: "And the volunteer constructs are aware of this? Mana@anncarise nods, "Yes. Mana has informed the constructs of all the details, which is why the constructs will be able to replicate the process without Mana's intervention. Though Mana is using Mia's drones - Mana@anncarise: - and overseeing the first test to ensure everything works as intended." Keelah@crystyll: "Sounds like you have everything covered. Good" she smiles, "Then it is time to reestablish comms and give this a go" Mana@anncarise nods, "Everything is ready here." Keelah@crystyll: "Open channel" Mana@anncarise | Eva: "Patching us back into the channel, Captain." Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "Is everything ready?" Keelah@crystyll: "We are prepared" Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "I am standing by to receive the Ardent Watcher's thoughts." Keelah@crystyll glances back, "Mana; it's your show" Mana@anncarise taps her console, "The drones are on the way to the Gallant Defender from the Watcher." Mana@anncarise | The viewscreen zooms in to show a number of drones exiting a port on the side of the Ardent Watcher, passing in front of the Valley Forge as they go towards the much larger Defender. Mana@anncarise | A minute later, one of the Defender's ports opens and the drones disappear inside. Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "The drones are interfacing now." Mana@anncarise | Eva holds her breath as she listens. Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "Processing the new code." Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "Yes. I see the thoughts behind your reasoning. /I/ still do not agree with many of them, but I see why you do." Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "I will defend the Nuhar ways to my end, but perhaps change is needed for us all to survive." Keelah@crystyll: "This is sounding like a successful transfer" Mana@anncarise | Eva breathes a sigh of relief and smiles slightly. Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "We will replicate the procedure and pass our thoughts to the Heretics." Mana@anncarise | Courageous Responder: "And we will pass ours to any of yours who would receive it." Keelah@crystyll: "Excellent. I am optimistic of equally positive results" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "Thank you, Captain Keelah. I am glad to see my calculation of your capability to achieve results was not wrong." Keelah@crystyll: "I believe this is just the first step. Once you have completed your initial transfers, we should resume talks from a more mutually understanding perspective" Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "Indeed. There may be many constructs who do not wish to share thoughts with others, but this will allow some of the Remnants to see the view of the Heretics, and - Mana@anncarise: - the Heretics to see our view. This will provide a far better basis for negotiation and, I hope, further reconciliation in the future." Keelah@crystyll: "Indeed. This is why it is fortunate that both parties have nominated negotiators to speak for the larger group. So not all need to undergo the same mutual understanding, only respect the decisions + Keelah@crystyll: + of those who do" Mana@anncarise | Ardent Watcher: "Your method is very effective, Captain Keelah. Perhaps we may use it for other purposes in the future." Mana@anncarise | Ardent Watcher: "The sharing of thoughts can benefit many endeavours." Keelah@crystyll: "I am pleased to see it working for you so far. How do you all wish to proceed from here, another recess while you conduct your transfers?" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "Time will be needed to share all the necessary thoughts and process the information. We will resume when we are ready." Keelah@crystyll: "We are prepared to wait and resume with you" --- Mana@anncarise FX | Another hour and a half passes as they wait, until Mana turns and addresses Keelah, "Captain, look." Keelah@crystyll turns to Mana, looking to what she's indicating Mana@anncarise taps her console before looking over to the viewscreen. It displays a stream of drones emerging from the black-hulled Relentless Hunter, passing by a stream coming from one of the Defenders. The - Mana@anncarise: - Defender's drones enter the Hunter, while the large stream from the Hunter splits into four, entering the representatives from both sides. Keelah@crystyll: "This is either very good, or very bad..." Mana@anncarise | Eva: "There's activity on the comm channel again. Should I patch us back in?" Keelah@crystyll nods Mana@anncarise | Eva taps her console, "We're in." Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "There has been a development." Mana@anncarise | Ardent Watcher: "We have the information as well." Mana@anncarise | Courageous Responder: "Then there is hope. Mana@anncarise | Gallant Defender: "We know only of its location, not its status." Keelah@crystyll chimes in, "This sounds like pertinent information has come to the table" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "If Captain Akeelah's information is correct, it is intact." Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "You recall the last time we met, we spoke of the Heart of War." Keelah@crystyll: "The facility we first set out on this journey to seek, of course" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "Our information on the facility is incomplete. Perhaps intentionally compartmentalized by the Creators so the knowledge would not fall into the wrong hands. Unfortunately, - Mana@anncarise: - its exact location is still lost. That is simply not in the records. But the procedures you provided have shed more light into its nature." Keelah@crystyll: "Is it then as you believed it to be; a means to contain the Primeval threat and stop the Horde advance?" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "And more. It was not constructed by the Gatekeepers alone, but a collaboration. The Gatekeepers merely provided the gateways and the basic superstructure." Keelah@crystyll: "Your creators also contributed?" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "Yes. The Heart of War was the greatest technological marvel built by the Children of their time. Perhaps by any of the Children. Within it lies a complete Foundry." Keelah@crystyll perks a brow, "Is this confirmed data, or suspected from recompiled information?" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "It is confirmed. The capability of the Relentless Hunter to continue downloading itself came from that Foundry. A procedure developed so that Nuhar who fell in conflict - Mana@anncarise: - with the Demons would be uploaded to a new body to continue the fight." Keelah@crystyll: "Then it is fortunate we are already on our way to secure the Heart of War" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "We will assist you if there is any assistance we may provide. We will remain for now to ensure this peace between the Remnants and the Free Thinkers, but you may need - Mana@anncarise: - assistance the closer you are to the sphere." Keelah@crystyll: "Does this mean we can rely on the strength of a united Construct fleet to serve as a backbone to the defense against the Horde?" Mana@anncarise | Ardent Watcher: "With our numbers as they are now, we will not be able to hold back the Horde for any significant period of time. However, the Free Thinkers are at your disposal if you require - Mana@anncarise: - aid on your search for the Heart of War, whether that be to scout potential locations, to perform precision strikes, or to divert and distract Horde forces." Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "You have the support of the Remnants as well. We will assist the Guardians in what ways we can." Keelah@crystyll: "Know that you will not be standing alone in this. Other major powers in this region of space are also preparing to stand beside you in this; the Arshai, the Operators, the An, Carran Guild fleets, + Keelah@crystyll: + refugee fleets. And of course, the Guardians. Alone, none may stand a chance in holding off the Horde. But now with all of these powers preparing to stand together with you, the Horde will be + Keelah@crystyll: + stopped. A united front may have called to you all in the past, but now it is no longer a case of fighting because you can. Now you have something to fight for, just like the organics; you have + Keelah@crystyll: + own future to secure in this surviving Foundry. The Horde may have marched this far into the galaxy, but only this far - no further" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "And you have our word that we will fight. Your information indicates the Heart of War is still intact, meaning that the Foundry may still be there. We may take losses in - Mana@anncarise: - battle, but we will know that our brethren fall to give the constructs a future." Mana@anncarise | Ardent Watcher: "We refused the call of the Guardians in the past, as it would only have hastened our inevitable demise. But now that we have hope, we have reason to fight again." Keelah@crystyll: "A future that we all look forward to. When we do secure the Heart of War - if it is even half the facility we believe it to be from our visual feeds - we will need the strength of the Nuhar to keep + Keelah@crystyll: + it safe and secure. Until that day, we must continue to coordinate our efforts on all fronts. Of course, this was a lot simpler with other powers as they could simply assign a representative to + Keelah@crystyll: + this ship to act as a coordinator..." Keelah@crystyll | The turbolift door opens and Mia steps out with Relay Keelah@crystyll | Mia: "Forgive the intrusion, mon Capitaine. But before you continue that statement..." Keelah@crystyll looks over and nods with a smile, "Yes... we have one more matter to discuss with all parties present" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "Proceed." Keelah@crystyll: "As you are all no doubt aware, we have a contingent of Nuhar drones on board. As beneficial as they are to us, they belong with their own" she turns, "I assume you have reached a consensus?" Keelah@crystyll | Mia nods and ushers Relay forward. It hovers over beside Keelah, to a quite unnerved expression from the Vulcan Keelah@crystyll | Relay: "We have reached a consensus. The drones will initially relocate to the Waystation. From there, they will distribute among the Constructs depending on needs" Mana@anncarise | Ardent Watcher: "Many of us will benefit from additional drones. Constructing new drones is much more difficult without a Foundry facility." Keelah@crystyll | Relay: "The contingent has been augmented with collective processing as a result of the Controllers influence. The required data is not present, but the capacity to interpret it and learn required+ Keelah@crystyll: + techniques is theoretically achievable" Keelah@crystyll: "I never thought I'd hear myself say this, Relay. But... I think I'm actually going to miss you" Keelah@crystyll | Relay turns 90 degrees, it's pulsing lights staring at Keelah a moment, "This unit is no longer required by the contingent" Keelah@crystyll: "Excuse me?" Keelah@crystyll | Relay: "This unit is no longer required by the contingent" Keelah@crystyll: "Y-... yes, I heard you. But what do you mean?" Keelah@crystyll | Relay: "With reintegration at the Waystation, this unit's communication specialization is no longer required. This unit is to remain with the Controller. This unit can serve as your conduit" Keelah@crystyll | Lennie smirks, muttering under her breath, "Mia and 'er pets..." Keelah@crystyll: "I... see. Unwavering Defender, you have previously sent long range transmissions to your kin; is it possible for Relay to serve in the described function so that you may remain in contact with us?" Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "That can be set up, provided the presence of communication relays I am able to tap into in the vicinity." Keelah@crystyll: "Then... it seems we have our representative..." Mana@anncarise | Unwavering Defender: "Then it is settled. The Remnants and Free Thinkers will set aside our differences to assist the Valley Forge's search for the Heart of War." Keelah@crystyll: "And for the future of the Constructs. Together" --- Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 FX | After finally settling the age-long debate between the Nuhar constructs by making both sides truly understand the other's point, the Valley Forge prepares to set off from the Waystation. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Once again, during a less busy time on the ship, the doorbell to T'Quila's quarters rings. T'Quila@crystyll steps over, smiling as always as it opens, "Hey Eva, come on in!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles back and steps inside, "I've been visiting you quite a bit recently, haven't I?" T'Quila@crystyll chuckles, "And you're always welcome!" T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah peers out from the other room and comes bounding in, "We have visitors?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 turns over at the voice, "Oh, hello Tiah!" T'Quila@crystyll: "Indeed we do Tiah" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles, "I was wondering if I would run into you on one of my visits." T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah smiles back, "Tiah spends much time exploring, but Tiah felt Kwaylah needed company today so Tiah stayed home" T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah: "And now Tiah gets to practice social graces like Kwaylah taught!" she grabs Eva's shoulder and ushers her to the sofa and sits her down, "Now you sit right there while Tiah gets you + T'Quila@crystyll: + refreshments!" T'Quila@crystyll watches, bemused while Tiah goes and replicates a bowl of water, presenting it proudly to Eva Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles at Tiah as she lets herself be ushered over, "Thank you, Tiah." T'Quila@crystyll joins Eva while Tiah curls up in the seat opposite them T'Quila@crystyll: "It's... a work in progress, but her heart is certainly in the right place" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods with a little laugh, "That it certainly is!" T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah: "Kwaylah said you have made many visits of late and she has been helping you think better?" T'Quila@crystyll: "Not... exactly, Tiah" she chuckles Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Something like that. She has certainly been helping!" T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah tucks her legs up on the chair, tails wrapping around herself like a fluffy blanket, "Are you here for more thinking practice? Can Tiah watch?!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles, "Actually, I was just here to update Tee on things and talk, but you're welcome to watch!" T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah beams happily T'Quila@crystyll: "So how was your shift with Kelly?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "It was not very awkward, actually, but mostly because we ended up being busy with our idea." T'Quila@crystyll: "That's a good step, I'd say!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smirks, "What's more interesting is what happened /after/ the shift..." T'Quila@crystyll perks a brow and smirks a little, "Do tell...!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Well, I took your advice and went to the holodeck..." T'Quila@crystyll: "Aah, fun times then!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "It only starts there! Remember earlier, when I was getting distracted by the bond due to the fun Kelly was having?" T'Quila@crystyll: "Oh! It... was a two way thing...?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Yes, and Kelly never practiced meditation with you..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "So she couldn't resist, and found me in the holodeck, and you can guess what happened next," she grins. T'Quila@crystyll: "Oh dear! That must have been quite the shock for her!" T'Quila@crystyll: "So does this mean you two have a shared understanding like the Constructs now?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 laughs, "It definitely was! And it's something like that, just that the bond is always there. I can alter it a little, but..." she glances to Tiah, "I suppose it's probably something like what - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - you have." T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah's ears flit forward curiously, "You and Kelly share a bond now like Tiah and Kwaylah?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "Not exactly like yours, but similar, I think." T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah beams, swishing her tails, "That is wonderful! Tiah is so happy for you!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Well...it's a little complicated..." she smirks, "But certainly a fun experience at times, like in the holodeck..." T'Quila@crystyll: "So does this change the future outlook for you two?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Kelly left already by the time I woke up in the morning, and I know she's still a little uneasy about it. But I think it's a good start." T'Quila@crystyll: "That's as much as we can ever hope for; a good start!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "It certainly is! And I don't know how Kelly can go back to regular intimacy after having been in a bond with someone previously. The experience is just amazing. The holodeck can't get close." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Is it like that for you two? Have you tried? Or...is that too personal of a question?" T'Quila@crystyll smiles sheepishly, "It certainly feels that way to me, but I have no real basis for comparison" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 grins, "Sounds similar to what I experienced, then!" T'Quila@crystyll: "I can certainly imagine it being so, knowing the impact of our bond" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Now I just have to make sure Kelly's up for more, without luring her in by getting started myself first..." she chuckles. T'Quila@crystyll: "Indeed. As high as you both may be from recent events, it is important to give your feelings time to catch up as well" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods and smiles, "That's great advice as always, Tee." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "How did you adjust with Tiah, if I can ask?" she glances over at Tiah curiously again. "Your bond was quite sudden too, wasn't it?" T'Quila@crystyll nods, "By comparison, I was the Kelly of the relationship" T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah smiles, "Kwaylah did not know about the bond, or what it meant. But Tiah could feel her hesitation and so could guide Kwaylah" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I'll do my best to guide Kelly, then. She's a little different, since she's been in one before, and then lost it..." T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah tilts her head before shaking it, "No. There is only ever one bond" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 chuckles, "I mean Kelly, not you." T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah nods, "Yes, that is what Tiah means. There is only one bond - for anyone - so Kelly can not have felt the bond before" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Oh no, it's a different bond, with someone else. Or...something close to it, at least." T'Quila@crystyll: "Tiah may have a point though. Whilst Kelly has been in intimate relationships before, she may not have experienced a telepathic bond like this" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I'll do my best to guide her through it, and make her more comfortable." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "It's new to me too, but at least I understand telepathy better, and know how to control it more." T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah smiles, "Just like Tiah when we first bonded!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles back, "Thank you again for all the advice. I hope I can get things to how nice you two have it now." T'Quila@crystyll smiles, glancing to Tiah and back, "It will come, I'm sure of it!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 takes a sip from Tiah's bowl and chuckles, "And I'm sure Tiah will master social graces in time too." T'Quila@crystyll: "Yeah... you and Kelly might find your way before then" she chuckles before gasping as a fluffy tail softly bats her cheek T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah sits back, smiling sweetly Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 laughs, "Just give it time, Tee!" T'Quila@crystyll: "We'll get there!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles and stands, "Anyways, I'll leave you two to it." T'Quila@crystyll: "Always a pleasure, Eva!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Same, Tee! And you too Tiah!" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles at Tiah and gives them both a wave before heading out. T'Quila@crystyll | Tiah gives a cheery wave, hopping over to TQ's side

MISSION PARAMETERSOUTCOME SUMMARY Investigate signs of advanced technology identified by QanwI' during it's search for the Valley Forge whilst it was on Belyia. Discovered Nuhar Waystation largely intact and successfully negotiated the reunification of the two core Nuhar Construct factions. Previously recovered drones reassigned to the Waystation for distribution among the Constructs based on prioritization needs. Drone designated 'Relay' remains on board as envoy to the unified Construct fleet.

No further action at this time.
NARRATIVE
After effecting repairs and restoring the ship to proper condition, we proceeded to follow QanwI' to the nearby star system where it had scouted a planet showing heavy signs of artificial construction and recent warp travel activity. Upon arrival, we detected a Lupan vessel in orbit but were intercepted by an automated greeter from the planet which invited us to visit. We soon learned that the planet was once a Waystation for the Nuhar civilization which had largely fallen into disrepair, but remained essentially functional owing to the AI constructs running it. Recognized as a friendly force, we were welcomed and presented much needed replenishment of resources as a free gesture from the Waystation. A courtesy extended to all friendly forces including the Lupan we encountered who had learned to conduct themselves as such with the Waystation.
We were requested to wait for a few days as our arrival had been anticipated and that a representative was en route to speak with us on an urgent matter. After accepting the offer, we were eventually met with the arrival of several dozen Constructs in orbit including at least one we had previously interacted with. The Lupan left at seeing the Constructs arrival, and we opened a dialogue to learn that they wanted to request our support in negotiating a truce between their two factions.
Eventually all parties arrived to the sum of more than 80 Constructs. Given the unique nature of their existence, certain difficulties were presented in our choosing a method to handle the talks. Whilst no stranger to diplomatic negotiations, I found myself at a loss as to how to set the encounter up. Eventually settling on a strict and classic table talk, we had the Constructs change formation in orbit to represent this with chosen speakers surrounding the Valley Forge at the centre. Though understandably tentative, and difficult to process owing to the lack of the usual biological traits such as tone and body language, the talks ultimately settled in an amenable compromise.
This was achieved through the application of our own recent experience with Nuhar intelligences, in which spokespersons for each party were granted a shared consciousness with the opposing factions in order to properly comprehend their perspective. Though highly unorthodox in the end, this solution proved optimal for the Nuhar and expedited progress towards our final settlement position of mutual cooperation. It may or may not last beyond the handling of the Horde threat, but observations predict an optimistic future as they now realize the need to work together in order to survive.
