The hard work of the Valley Forge's crew finally comes to fruition as their long anticipated warp trial for the FEPD escort craft - Eon - is finally ready to proceed. What better way for them to celebrate Landing Day - the most sacred of FE holidays - for Eon's eager pilot...
Rianni@crystyll | Jenni strolls through the corridors of the Valley Forge in her flight suit. An unusually bright demeanor and an excited skip in her step Rianni@crystyll | Mia pauses at seeing her coming and waves, "Happy Landing Day Lieutenant!" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni smiles, "Thank you Mia! I wasn't sure anyone on board would think on it" Rianni@crystyll | Mia giggles, "You should know by now Ms. Jenni... we track all important dates on board! Well we should not keep you, good luck with your big day!" she gives a cheery wave as she heads off Rianni@crystyll | Jenni waves back, "Thanks Mia, I look forward to the celebrations in the lounge later!" and continues on her way Rianni@crystyll | Jenni's walk continues in this regard for some distance, happily humming their patriotic colony anthem, until she reaches a door where she hits the chime Rianni@crystyll | Jenni waits a few moments then hits it again, "I know she's in here, the computer said so..." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni waits a little longer, then investigates. Finding the door unlocked, she opens it and peers in, "Rianni...?" she ventures with almost a whisper Rianni@crystyll | Jenni soon hears Rianni's voice from the around the corner, talking with someone. It sounds irate, almost heated. She freezes, hoping for a chance to announce her presence but ends up overhearing.. Rianni@crystyll: "Dani... please? Don't do this now... we don't get much time to talk and I don't want to waste it fighting with you again..." Keliaya@anncarise | Danete: "It's not my fault you decided to go off on a ship flying to the middle of nowhere! You could've been at the Academy on Earth, or a closer ship or...anything!" Rianni@crystyll pouts, "Dani, I..." she sighs, "I don't expect you to understand, but I had to come. When I left you were super-excited for me! You, mum and dad!" Keliaya@anncarise | Danete: "Yeah, but now you're halfway across the galaxy and can't even come home...even with everything that's happened!" Rianni@crystyll: "I wish there was I was, Dani! Ever since..." she turns away, sniffling, "...all I've wanted is to be with you and dad again... I love you Dani, it kills me seeing you like this. Please, I need you + Rianni@crystyll: + to be strong. For dad, and for yourself" Keliaya@anncarise | Danete: "I'm doing my best, but without you here...I'm not sure what to do..." Rianni@crystyll leans in, trying to offer a supportive smile, "Dani, you are stubborn, awkward and argumentative baby sister... and I love you. You have the will of a Vulcan priest and the resolve of a Klingon + Rianni@crystyll: + warrior. I know you can do it!" Keliaya@anncarise | Danete: "Well I wouldn't have to if you weren't so determined to get yourself on one of those famous Starfleet voyages! Haven't you already been through enough with them? You should be thankful - Keliaya@anncarise: - they didn't get you killed that last time. Isn't this usually the point where you decide to spend more time with your family instead of flying away with another ship?" Rianni@crystyll: "Dani, that's exactly /why/ I had to come with this crew. These people saved me when I was recovered from the Junayd. Saved me from myself... I had to do this Dani! I had to face what had happened..." Keliaya@anncarise | Danete: "And leave your family behind? It's not like /we/ ever did anything for you, right?" Rianni@crystyll: "Dani..." sniffle, "...If I didn't leave, I would have been a burden on you... I was broken. But I /did/ still need you all, which is why I came home for as long as I did!" Keliaya@anncarise | Danete: "But we need you now!" Rianni@crystyll: "And don't you think I'd be there now if I could!" Keliaya@anncarise | Danete: "Well you should've thought of that before you ran off!" Keliaya@anncarise FX | The comm cuts. Rianni@crystyll: "Dani, please I... No!" she slams her hands on the table and faceplants, sobbing Rianni@crystyll | Jenni steps further in, "Ahem... Rianni, are you alright...?" Rianni@crystyll jumps at the presence she failed to notice, quickly trying to regain her composure, "Jenni! I... I didn't see you... Ohmygod! How long were you there?!" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni moves to Rianni's side and holds an arm around her, "Long enough, Rianni... I'm sorry, I did not mean to intrude. But... I'm glad I did, because I know that look. We all need a hug sometimes" Rianni@crystyll sniffles, leaning against Jenni, "Why can't she understand that I want to help...?" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni softly shushes, "She just needs time, is all. Now come on, get yourself freshened up. Don't want to be late for our big day now, do we!" she chirps, giving Rianni an encouraging squeeze Rianni@crystyll smiles faintly, sniffling more as she dries her eyes, "Alright. Maybe it will take my mind of things. For a while at least..." and moves to clean herself up before they head out Rianni@crystyll | Jenni watches without moving, a sad smile on her face, "I hope so Rianni... I hope so..." she mutters to herself Rianni@crystyll & Jenni arrive a short time later in the port hangar. It's an unusual buzz of activity with the deck crew and engineering staff all beavering away around the Eon Rianni@crystyll looks to Jenni after taking it all in, "This is it, Lieutenant. It's actually happening isn't it? Do you really think it will work?" Keliaya@anncarise discusses something with Sullivan in the middle of the hangar. Rianni@crystyll | Jenni grins and gives a confident nod, "Absolutely, it will! We have worked for months to get Eon ready for this, we've run all the simulations. Sooner or later - little bird - you just have to + Rianni@crystyll: + bite the bullet and go for a test flight!" Rianni@crystyll smiles sheepishly at the obscure nickname, "Well, I'm ready to help however I can!" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni smiles again and looks around, "Come on" she leads them over towards Kelly, "Commander! How goes the prep? Is my baby here-" she pats Eon's wing, "-ready for her first FTL flight?" Keliaya@anncarise smiles as she turns to Jenni's approach, "And here comes our star pilot! Chief Sullivan here assures me that everything's set." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni walks around Eon, looking over every panel, "I'm surprised you were able to integrate a field generator with such minimal disruption to the outer skin" Keliaya@anncarise | Sullivan: "Well it wasn't easy, had to get pretty creative. Don't worry though, it won't disrupt any of the Eon's functionality." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni peers under the fuselage with a grin, "Oh I'm not worried, Chief! Consider it an expression of acknowledgement for your great work!" Keliaya@anncarise | Sullivan: "And I'm honoured to get to work with a craft like yours. Not to say anything bad about Starfleet design, of course, but we just don't build them like you do!" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni flashes a smile and continues her inspection Rianni@crystyll: "So what is the target result for this test?" Keliaya@anncarise | Kelly: "The warp field generator on the Eon is a very miniaturized version. The test is just to see if it can achieve warp speeds; it's not really designed to maintain them for any length of - Keliaya@anncarise: - time like our shuttles. We'll use the results from today to further optimize the field, but ultimately it's only going to be used for short-range bursts still." Rianni@crystyll: "How did you manage the inertial dampeners for FTL speeds? I can't imagine an aerodynamic sub-orbital ship was ever designed with such speeds in mind..." Keliaya@anncarise: "Well the field generator wasn't the only new thing we had to install. Due to the limited room we have to work with, it's only strong enough to make the ship safe for FTL travel, but the seating - Keliaya@anncarise: - design should hopefully compensate for the rest, or at least make it more bearable..." Rianni@crystyll watches Jenni conduct her inspection, "She is either brave or crazy, isn't she..." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni's head pops around the ship again, "Oi! I heard that little bird! And I'll have you know it's a delicate balance of both!" she chuckles Keliaya@anncarise | Sullivan chuckles, "That's what you need to make a good pilot." Rianni@crystyll: "I think I'm best suited to my bridge station..." Keliaya@anncarise: "You and me both, Cadet..." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni: "Speaking of your bridge station, you should probably get yourselves up there ready for the test flight!" Rianni@crystyll looks between Kelly and Sully, "Is there anything else that can be done here to help?" Rianni@crystyll FX | The deckhands are detaching coolant pipes from the Eon's wings, leaving small plumes of evaporating coolant pouring from the Eon's vents Keliaya@anncarise: "I think we're all set here, but thank you for offering," she smiles. "Let's move up to the bridge." Rianni@crystyll: "Alright!" she moves around and gives Jenni a hug, "Good luck L-T! I can't think of a more fitting celebration for your Landing Day!" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni smiles, hugging her back, "You're my lucky charm, little bird. I'll see you on other side!" Keliaya@anncarise smiles to Jenni, "Safe flight, Lieutenant." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni turns and salutes before entering the Eon, "Thank you Commander" Rianni@crystyll arrives at the main bridge and takes her station at tactical Keliaya@anncarise takes the engineering station. Rianni@crystyll | Keelah looks to the arrivals, "Commander. Are we on target for the test flight?" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "Everything is on schedule, Captain. Eon and Lieutenant Baelai are all set in the port hangar." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, looking to Crystyl, "Is the QanwI' in position?" Rianni@crystyll | Crystyl checks her screen and nods, "Holding position at the test marker" Rianni@crystyll: "Tactical sensors are at maximum and reporting no anomalies within range of the test area, Captain" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah turns back to Kelly, "Inform the hangar bay that they have a go for the test flight" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Helm, plot a parallel course and prepare to engage on my mark" Keliaya@anncarise | Ann: "Course plotted an' ready, Cap'n." Rianni@crystyll FX | A short time later, the hangar door opens and Eon cruises out. The bridge viewscreen following it as it moves away and begins a series of test manouvers at sublight speeds to test integration Keliaya@anncarise keeps a watch on VF's sensor readings of the Eon, "Power readings look stable and within usual limits of Eon operation. No sign of any impact on craft performance at current velocities." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni's voice rings over an open comm channel that pipes openly throughout the bridge, "I've got green lights across the board here. She feels a little off balance though... atmospheric + Rianni@crystyll: + manouvering might require a little tweaking of balance. But we're good out here" Keliaya@anncarise: <C> "That might just be due to the systems we had to integrate. I'll add balance to the list of things we'll have to tweak after the test. Everything else is looking good from here too, though." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni: "Bringing the new field generator up to power now then" Keliaya@anncarise continues to observe, <C> "Let us know if anything else reads or feels off." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni: "So far so good. I'm reading a stable warp field here, please confirm" Rianni@crystyll | Lennie checks her sensors and gives a nod to Kelly Keliaya@anncarise: <C> "Looks stable here as well, Lieutenant." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni: "Alright, showtime then! Engaging FTL jump in 3... 2... 1... jumping!" Rianni@crystyll FX | The Eon shoots away into the distance before disappearing into a warp flash Keliaya@anncarise continues monitoring sensors as the Eon jumps away to warp. Rianni@crystyll | Lennie: "Tracking her course. Trajectory looks good" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni: "Wooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooooo!" Keliaya@anncarise: "The Eon is now at warp 1. Field looks stable." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah smiles, addressing Jenni over comms, "Congratulations, Lieutenant. We register you cruising at warp 1!" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni's voice sounds a little more distorted now as the Eon continues to accelerate, "Oh... my.... Goooooood......" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Helm, engage parallel course. Keep us with her" Keliaya@anncarise | Ann: "Aye aye, Cap'n. We are now flyin' parallel with the Eon." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni: "Warp 1... confirmmmmmmed. Woooaahhhhhh... acccccccelerating slooooowly. Warrrrrp 1.1.... 1.2......." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah looks to TQ, "What is that distortion, can you compensate?" Rianni@crystyll | TQ works her panel, "Attempting to do so, Captain. But I do not believe it is subspace interference, it may be from the Eon's warp field itself" Keliaya@anncarise checks to make sure the field is still stable. Rianni@crystyll | Jenni continues, sounding increasingly out of sync, "1. 5..... 1.6......." Keliaya@anncarise: "I'm seeing minor fluctuations in the warp field." Keliaya@anncarise: "It might not be able to maintain the field at these speeds yet. I suggest decelerating to be safe." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Eon, throttle back. That will do for now" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni continues, seemingly oblivious to her inbound comms, "1.8.... 1.9......." Keliaya@anncarise: "Warp field is beginning to destabilize quickly! Tee, are the comms not getting through?" Rianni@crystyll | TQ checks, "I... think so. Though I'm not sure what's going on within that warp bubble" Rianni@crystyll | Crystyl: "Captain, the Eon's trajectory is beginning waiver. Flight path is fluctuating" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Red alert! Helm, close the gap. Kelly, stand by to extend our warp field around the Eon" Keliaya@anncarise | Ann: "Closin' in!" Keliaya@anncarise taps quickly on her console, "Ready to extend field as soon as we're in range." Rianni@crystyll | Jenni: "1.95.... 1.96....... 1.97....... Ohhhhhh Godddddddd, it's beauuuuuuutifuuuuuuuuu-...."" Keliaya@anncarise: "Eon's disappeared from our sensors..." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "What? What happened, where is she?" On comms, "Eon, respond! Lieutenant Baeli..." Keliaya@anncarise: "No signs of field collapse or an explosion, just...vanished." Rianni@crystyll: "Confirmed, Captain: Eon no longer registers on tactical sensors" Rianni@crystyll | Helm, take us to the last known position. Tee, have the QanwI' check their region" Rianni@crystyll | TQ nods and checks in with the QanwI' Keliaya@anncarise | Ann nods and maneuvers the ship into the last registered sensor location of the Eon. Rianni@crystyll | Keelah looks to Kelly, "I need answers, Commander" Keliaya@anncarise tries to see if the readings they got could give any signs of what was happening inside the field at all. Keliaya@anncarise: "Seeing as the field was destabilizing quickly, the conclusion would normally be total field collapse, but I don't see why a destabilizing field would have been interfering with our communications." Keliaya@anncarise: "It'll take a while for us to search for any sign of debris to confirm field collapse, given the size of the Eon and its last velocity. I suspect there might've been subspace interference of some - Keliaya@anncarise: - kind though, possibly brought on by the field instability...but that's just speculation with what we have." Rianni@crystyll | TQ: "Comms were oddly distorted before the field started to fluctuate. Could be some unforeseen aspect to the Eon's warp field, or possibly an effect of it's neural interface" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "The field definitely looked different from a standard Federation produced one, which in and of itself was expected, but it might've produced some unanticipated results." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Alright, well this speculation isn't going to get us anywhere. I want all craft out of the hangars immediately and coordinated into a search pattern centered on this position" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Plot a wide radius search area based on Eon's fluctuating trajectory from this position. Tee, have the QanwI' fall back and join us. Cadet, multi-vessel coordination is supposed to be + Rianni@crystyll: + your area of expertise... you will act as coordinator for the search vessels" Rianni@crystyll nods firmly and gets straight to work, "Understood, Captain" Keliaya@anncarise | Ann: "I'm plottin' a search radius based on their last known velocity an' location an' maximum possible accleration. It's gonna be pretty big." Rianni@crystyll FX | The bridge remains at red alert, with an increased buzz of activity as everyone works frantically to aid the search effort Keliaya@anncarise continues trying to figure out what went wrong with the Eon's warp field silently while also boosting the VF's sensors by a bit. Rianni@crystyll FX | With both hangar bays open, relative swarms of shuttles & runabouts pour out of the VF from each side, scattering into different directions as they begin the search Keliaya@anncarise steps over to Lennie, "Commander, were there any unusual readings other than the Eon's destabilizing field?" Rianni@crystyll | Lennie shakes her head, clearly frustrated, "I Keep goin' over th'whole flight. I mean, it were /all/ unusual, but we'se expected it t'be" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah joins the pair, "Ladies, I know you are busy exploring every avenue, but I have to ask... assuming Eon is adrift but intact, so without power. How long would Lieutenant Baelai have before + Rianni@crystyll: + the already cycled oxygen in her compartment runs out?" Keliaya@anncarise thinks for a second, "Five to six hours for the average being." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Well if we assume that she is conscious and breathing in there. Taking out the time from the point of disappearance, that leaves us with... 4 hours, 38 minutes" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah turns: "Computer, set a countdown from 4 hours, 38 minutes and overlay on main screen" Rianni@crystyll FX | A chirp of acknowledgement and the countdown appears in the corner of the viewscreen Rianni@crystyll glances to it with an ominous gulp, doubling back to her console with renewed vigor Rianni@crystyll | Keelah continues to pace the bridge, stalking from one station to the next as she keeps tabs on everyones activity Rianni@crystyll briefly glances to the Captain looming over her shoulder, but maintains focus. Even through the affirming pat on the shoulder before Keelah moves on Keliaya@anncarise glances back to Lennie, "I didn't see any indication of a subspace anomaly- natural or created by the Eon's field, but if there was some form of subspace interference, there's - Keliaya@anncarise: - a possibility that the Eon, or its debris, might've slipped into the subspace spectrum." Rianni@crystyll | Lennie looks to Kelly, "Possible. But if tha's th'case, how th'hells are we gonna track it?" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "That's the problem...combing the search area is difficult enough, let alone all the layers of subspace." Keliaya@anncarise steps up to the console, "What do the subspace harmonics look like during the Eon's warp flight?" Rianni@crystyll | Lennie checks before shaking her head, "Not seein' anythin' o'use here..." Keliaya@anncarise: "I'll keep studying the data to see what exactly happened. Let me know if you find anything." Rianni@crystyll FX | The search continues and the ominous countdown ticks down... Rianni@crystyll FX | 1hr, 12mins Keliaya@anncarise FX | The turbolift opens and the familiar silhouette of the Regulator Analyst's suit can be seen stepping out. Keliaya@anncarise | Vulture: "The ship is on alert, I understand?" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, returning to her chair and inviting Vulture to her side for a debrief Keliaya@anncarise | Vulture crosses the bridge and steps over to Keelah. Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "You may have been aware already that we were conducting a test flight today of a warp drive adaptation to our Forged Earth support craft, Eon?" Rianni@crystyll glances up briefly from her console with a cold glare, but almost instantly returns her focus to her work Keliaya@anncarise | Vulture nods, her helmet still active. She doesn't seem to notice Rianni's glare, "The small vessel with neural interface technology? Yes, I see that on the calendar now." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Well something happened to it during the flight and we lost contact. An SAR is currently underway, so you will understand if we are a little distracted" Rianni@crystyll | The computers melodious voice rings out, "1 hour remaining" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah sighs, rubbing the bridge of her nose Keliaya@anncarise | Vulture nods again, "Technological experimentation can often be dangerous. Do you know the reason contact was lost?" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah shakes her head, "Everything was going in line with the simulations. There was some unanticipated lag in communications, Eon's signal was distorted by it's warp field we think" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "But after passing warp 1, it continued to accelerate and she seemed to be unaware of our comms for a period of exponential acceleration before we lost contact" Keliaya@anncarise | Vulture: "Your warp technology should not distort communications, even if it is unstable." Keliaya@anncarise glances over to Vulture, "That's what I was saying. We suspected some subspace interference, but there's no evidence of that on sensors..." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "True enough. But this is not strictly Federation technology, we simply augmented the Eon's own technology with a field generator" Keliaya@anncarise | Vulture: "May I see your data on this Eon's technology?" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, gesturing behind her, "Commander Keliaya, please set our guest up at a station with the required information" Keliaya@anncarise nods and sets up the station next to hers. Vulture steps over and stands over the console, looking over the data and occasionally tapping a button. Keliaya@anncarise | Vulture: "There is a possibility that the Eon's different control system somehow caused the communication distortion, perhaps in conjunction with the subspace displacement field, but further - Keliaya@anncarise: - information will be needed to confirm whether it is the case in this incident." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Right now, we have to find her... figuring out what happened can wait" Rianni@crystyll: "Captain..." she taps her screen, "...Captain! We might have something!" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah looks over, "Cadet?" Keliaya@anncarise looks over to Rianni. Rianni@crystyll: "Captain, shuttlecraft Mysti reports a positive hit in it's search grid; a faint plasma trail leading towars an uncharted nebula" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Helm, take us to that nebula, maximum warp. Tee, have the QanwI' take up a defensive position to cover the rest of the search craft" Keliaya@anncarise | Ann: "Plottin' course to the nebula at max warp, Cap'n." Rianni@crystyll FX | The Valley Forge turns and jumps to warp Rianni@crystyll | Lennie: "Long range scans show nothin' strange 'bout th'nebula. Unable t'penetrate it o'course..." Keliaya@anncarise checks to see what might be causing the interference. Keliaya@anncarise: "We'll have to see if our sensors can function at least to a limited capacity while inside, or if we'll have to use some other method of searching." Rianni@crystyll FX | They soon catch up to the shuttle and proceed towards the nebula at impulse, coming into visual range Rianni@crystyll: ( https://freedesignfile.com/upload/2017/06/Fantasy-beautiful-space-nebula-Stock-Photo-18.jpg ) Rianni@crystyll looks to the viewscreen as it magnifies, "It's beautiful..." Keliaya@anncarise: "Wait...didn't Lieutenant Baelai say something about a beautiful view before we lost contact?" Rianni@crystyll: "Yes! That was the last thing she said! This is it, she's here... she has to be!" Rianni@crystyll takes the stern glance from Keelah as a prompt to maintain her professionalism and refocuses on her console Rianni@crystyll subsequently misses the slight smile on Keelah's face that followed as a result... Rianni@crystyll | Lennie: "I'se got th'plasma trail. Leads straight into th'nebual aight, no ways t'know if it's Eon or not though..." Keliaya@anncarise: "A sensor-blocking nebula in this region might be a good location for a pirate trap...but we'll never known if it's Eon or not unless we investigate." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Take us in, helm. Maintain red alert..." Keliaya@anncarise | Ann: "Aye aye, Cap'n. Takin' us into the nebula." Rianni@crystyll FX | The Valley Forge creeps forward at a tentative speed. The viewscreen turns to a colourful swirl as the ship is engulfed by gaseous nebula... Keliaya@anncarise checks to see if sensors can pick up anything around them or if they are totally going in blind. Keliaya@anncarise: rolls 87 (1-100) Keliaya@anncarise: "Still getting a lot of interference from the nebula, but at least we have a warp trail to guide us..." Keliaya@anncarise: "I see something! Materials showing up as a match for the Eon's composition." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah leans forward in her chair, "On screen" Keliaya@anncarise taps and puts what the sensors detected on the viewscreen. Rianni@crystyll FX | At first it almost seems like the view doesn't change, for the dense gasses. But after a moment, the distinct silhoutte of the Eon begins to emerge Rianni@crystyll beams happily, "There she is!" Rianni@crystyll | Lennie: "Readin's are hard t'clarify in this soup, but could be lifesigns I'se got" Rianni@crystyll | TQ: "I'm still not able to raise her" Keliaya@anncarise smiles as well, "Let's tractor her in, see if sensors can pick up anything at closer range." Rianni@crystyll FX | With the Eon drawing into full view, it has clearly suffered heavy damage. A vent has completely blown out on the upper rear fuselage, taking out a chunk of the wing with it Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Bring it back into the hangar and beam LT Baelai straight to sickbay as soon as you can get a lock" Keliaya@anncarise coordinates with the hangar to tractor Eon in. Rianni@crystyll | Keelah stands, looking to Lennie, "You have the bridge Commander" then to Kelly, "I assume you'll want to inspect Eon" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "We need to figure out what went wrong." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "You're with me then". She makes her way to the turbolift Rianni@crystyll: "Captain, if I may...? Jenni- I mean, LT Baelai is.... Well I mean..." Keliaya@anncarise follows over to the turbolift and pauses midway as Rianni speaks, glancing back to her. Rianni@crystyll | Keelah smiles and nods, "Come on, Cadet" Rianni@crystyll smiles, quickly signing over her station and scurrying to catch up Keliaya@anncarise continues into the turbolift, waiting for Rianni to get in. Rianni@crystyll | Lennie takes the big chair, "Helm, le's get back outta this soup and meet back wit' tha' shuttle. Tee, once we got a signal have QanwI' escort th'other search craft back 'ere" Rianni@crystyll FX | Knowing that Kazra will first want some time to fully assess Jenni's condition, Keelah leads her troup first to the hangar bay to check on things with Eon and hopefully find some answers Rianni@crystyll FX | Eon has never looked more sorry for itself. Sat askew; propped on drydock supports with it's burned out engines still smouldering. It's blown out rear quarter and missing wing section hammer + Rianni@crystyll: + the point home, though it is only further emphasized by the cracked and scarred canopy to the cockpit Keliaya@anncarise looks past the deck crew checking the Eon, locating and approaching Sullivan, "What's the preliminary damage report, Chief?" Rianni@crystyll follows, quietly observing Rianni@crystyll | Sully shakes his head despondently, "It ain't pretty, boss. Don't know what happened yet, but looks like something overloaded the field generator" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "Any idea if the flight data logs are intact?" Rianni@crystyll | Sully grumbles under his breath, repeating himself after, "That stupid neural interface's got everything locked down. I don't know how that crazy thing works in order to switch it over" Keliaya@anncarise: "Let me take a look." She moves to look inside the Eon. Rianni@crystyll: "Commander... maybe I can help. I've logged a number hours in the simulator for this" Keliaya@anncarise pauses and looks to Rianni, thinking for a second, "I've only done this once and I recall it being quite disorientating...might be best for you to try, Cadet." Rianni@crystyll nods and approaches the wounded craft. Grimacing at the scarring and damage that marrs the normally pristine surface Rianni@crystyll clambers inside and is immediately hit by the smell of burned conduit & chemicals. She covers her mouth, "Oh!" she gags a little Keliaya@anncarise: "You alright in there, Cadet?" Rianni@crystyll | Sully scoffs, "Yeah... you get used to that, you work enough DC Cadet!" Rianni@crystyll whimpers quietly and proceeds Rianni@crystyll gasps when she gets a proper look inside. The gyro seat is crooked, half hanging within it's frame. Blown interior panels have littered the cabin with debris, conduit and cables which dangle from + Rianni@crystyll: + all surfaces like artificial spider webs Keliaya@anncarise meanwhile takes a tricorder from one of the deck crew, running a scan of the Eon to see the specifics of the damage. Rianni@crystyll gingerly works her way around the interior to find the headpiece, pausing as she looks forward to the cracked and burned canopy, having to restrain herself from an emotional outburtst when she sees+ Rianni@crystyll: + the blood smear streaking across it from the crack Rianni@crystyll finally finds the headpiece and puts it on, perching herself precariously on the broken seat, "Ok, I have the interface. I should be able to use the emergency batteries to access the flight + Rianni@crystyll: + computer's diagnostics..." Keliaya@anncarise: "Be careful in there! Don't activate anything else by accident..." Rianni@crystyll: "It's ok, Commander. I... don't think Eon's capable of much more than this anyway. Chief, do you have a diagnostics connection? I think if you patch in now, you should be able to pull the telemetry" Rianni@crystyll | Sully, "Aye, it's coming in now now" he waves Kelly over to his console to see what comes through Keliaya@anncarise steps over to Sully's console to check as well. Rianni@crystyll FX | The flight data does indeed pour in. Visual feed as well as a stream of analytics Keliaya@anncarise: "Good work Cadet! Let's see what caused the issue now..." Keliaya@anncarise: "Matches with the readings of the field we got from the ship, but still not sure what caused the field to deteriorate..." Keliaya@anncarise: "Nothing on the Eon's sensors at least. Subspace influence is still the most likely." Rianni@crystyll | Sully looks at the data more and nods, "There" he points on the screen, "That looks like the flashpoint. I bet if we were to head back to these coordinates, we'd find something" Keliaya@anncarise smiles, "Good catch, Chief. I suspect it's something small, something we'd easily overlook and pose no dangers to our deflectors...but I suppose the Eon's non-Starfleet technology wasn't built to - Keliaya@anncarise: - handle it." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah joins them, "So, we have our answers?" Keliaya@anncarise: "Not entirely, but we're fairly sure where to find them." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah looks over the data and nods, "The QanwI' can investigate for us. I want to remain here for now and get a closer look at this nebula" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah, "That should do it Cadet, you can power off and come out now" Rianni@crystyll staggers out after a moment, looking rather pale Keliaya@anncarise nods, "Have them scan for any subspace rifts or anomalies we'd usually overlook. It's probably why we never identified it during the initial scan of the region before the test." Keliaya@anncarise: "It's something that wouldn't affect us, but it seems the Eon isn't equipped to deal with it." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Even though Eon's navigational deflector is rated for deep space use, it would seem that it was not capable of processing the information quick enough at warp speed for it to be fed + Rianni@crystyll: + to LT Baelai to react" she shakes her head absently, "Such a trivial thing like a subspace 'pothole' that we wouldn't even bat an eyelid over, causing all of this..." Rianni@crystyll meanwhile, doesn't make it far out of Eon before she is overcome and has to sit, clumsily, on a crate. Head in hands Keliaya@anncarise: "That's the problem with differing technologies. Every civilization has issues with early warp experiments, and they're not always predictable." Keliaya@anncarise notices Rianni and steps over, "Disorientated, Cadet?" Rianni@crystyll groans, nodding her head Keliaya@anncarise: "I'm not sure how Lieutenant Baelai handles it..." She looks back to Keelah, "Any word from Kazra yet on how she's doing?" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah shakes her head, "Was it so bad in the simulator, Cadet?" Rianni@crystyll shakes her head, "No, it's not that. It's..." she gags again, "...all that blood... Jenni..." Rianni@crystyll | Sully frowns with confusion, stepping into Eon and looking around. From his face when he emerges, he appears to understand, "I'm sorry Cadet, I didn't realize what a mess it was in there" Rianni@crystyll | Sully, "Captain, I swear. If I knew how bad it was, I'd never have let her go in" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah raises a hand, "There is nothing to apologize for, Chief. It's just one of th-" cuts herself off, watching as Rianni suddenly darts away from them Rianni@crystyll clasps her hands over her mouth and makes it to one corner of the hangar, but the sound of wretching still echoes back to the others Rianni@crystyll | Keelah twists her lip, looking to Kelly, "Well, sickbay was next on our agenda anyway..." Keliaya@anncarise nods, "Indeed..." Rianni@crystyll | Sully grimaces, waving over a deckhand, "We got another blurter. Get a cleanup crew to pad-C" Rianni@crystyll returns, more sheepish than ever, "Sorry Chief, I..." Rianni@crystyll | Sully raises a hand, cutting her off, "Cadet, you ain't the first and sure as hell won't be the last. Now go on, already" Keliaya@anncarise smiles reassuringly, "Come on. Let's go check on the Lieutenant." Rianni@crystyll nods gingerly, following the senior officers out and avoiding the dagger eyes from the poor deckhand passing by with cleaning gear Rianni@crystyll | Keelah leads the group to the main sickbay, where Kazra potters busily, but not frantically around the consoles surrounding Jenni on the critical care bed Keliaya@anncarise patiently waits for either one of the others to address Kazra first or until she notices them as to not interrupt her work. Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra makes her way over to the group a few moments later when a nurse comes over, tapping the console she was at and scrolling through readings while tapping on a tricorder. Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra: "Captain, Commander, Cadet." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah looks past her to Jenni's biobed, "How is she, Doctor?" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra: "She has a number of physical injuries, nothing life threatening and the nurses are already starting to work on regenerating surface tissue. There's an issue with her neural chemistry - Keliaya@anncarise: - though, so we're keeping her on sedatives until we can rebalance it." Keliaya@anncarise: "Neural chemistry? Maybe the sudden system failures caused the neural interface to affect her brain." Rianni@crystyll: "It might be something more inherent. There was all that weird comms interference even before that happened, right? Ohhh..." she wobbles and sits down on a nearby bed Keliaya@anncarise nods, "There was, yes." She looks over to Rianni, then Kazra. "She's just used the controls as well to access the Eon's data. Maybe we should-" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra is already stepping over to Rianni with a medical tricorder, "I'm on it." Rianni@crystyll: "I'm alright Doctor. Just..." she turns away, ashamedly Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra: "I'm reading elevated heart rate and increased levels of adrenaline, but no disruption in neural chemistry." Keliaya@anncarise: "That's good to hear, at least. Thank you, Doctor." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Doctor, I think it was more an adverse reaction to what she witnessed than anything else" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra: "That would be in line with the scan results I'm getting." She steps away and returns after a moment with a hypo, "Here, this'll make you feel a little better." Rianni@crystyll exhales deeply, "Thanks Doctor" Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "So what's the prognosis for LT Baelai, will she recover?" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra nods, "We think so. Most of the injuries are easily treatable with our equipment, she'll just need time to recover. I've never seen neural imbalance like this before, but she's responding - Keliaya@anncarise: - well to treatments and once we have the chemistry in balance again, she should be fine." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Can we speak with her?" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra: "She may be a little disorientated until we restore neural chemistry to normal levels, but it should be safe to wake her." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Please do" Keliaya@anncarise | She steps over to retrieve a different hypo and stands beside the bed as she injects it to wake Jenni. Keliaya@anncarise steps a little closer, but makes sure to give Kazra some room. Rianni@crystyll | Keelah also hovers closely until Kazra's clear. She leans in waiting for a sign of Jenni stirring Rianni@crystyll hops off the bed and joins them at Kelly's side Keliaya@anncarise glances at Rianni, lowering her voice slightly as to not startle Jenni when she wakes, "Feeling better, Cadet?" Rianni@crystyll nods, smiling graciously, "Yes, thank you. I'll be fine, I just need to not think about it" Keliaya@anncarise smiles back and looks to the bed to observe Jenni. Rianni@crystyll | Jenni slowly stirs, mumbling Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Easy L-T, you're back on the ship now" Rianni@crystyll | Jenni continues mumbling incoherently, though as she continues it becomes clearer that she seems to be reciting the last moments she remembers where she spoke of the beautiful nebula Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra: "She's awake, but I can't guarantee how coherent she'll be..." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah shakes her head, "It's ok, let her rest. I don't want to push her" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra nods over to the nurse, who moves to prepare another sedative hypo. Rianni@crystyll watches with clear concern on her face, "She'll be alright, won't she...?" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra: "Physically she'll definitely make a full recovery. Since we don't see any signs of damage to the brain, I don't expect any lasting impacts once we have the brain chemistry rebalanced." Rianni@crystyll smiles a little, "At least, I guess, her mind is stuck enjoying the beautiful sight of the nebula. Doctor, is it ok if I stay with her?" Keliaya@anncarise | Kazra smiles as well and nods, "Of course, Cadet." Rianni@crystyll: "Thanks" She smiles, pulling up a chair and making herself comfortable at Jenni's side Keliaya@anncarise | She takes the hypo as the nurse hands it over and looks to Keelah, "I can let you know when her neural chemistry's back to normal levels, if you want to be here when we try waking her again - Keliaya@anncarise - when she should be more coherent." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah nods, "Yes, that would be preferable" turning to Kelly, "She really did seem taken by the sight of this nebula, didn't she?" Keliaya@anncarise smiles, "It is a pretty nebula, and I don't think she's seen a sight like it before." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah, "You know, it's an old tradition in some cultures to name such discoveries for the one who discovered them" Keliaya@anncarise nods, "That's why we have systems like Vega and Archer. You're thinking of naming the nebula after her? That's a nice idea..." Rianni@crystyll | Keelah: "Or letting her name it maybe" Keliaya@anncarise smiles again, "I like it."

Sector V-013: Deep Space and Uncharted Nebula
MISSION PARAMETERSOUTCOME SUMMARYTest new warp field generator installed on Forged Earth craft Eon. Eon heavily damaged after hitting minor anomaly. Craft recovered and FLT Baelai currently being treated in sickbay.
Repairs to Eon will be high priority for the deck crew due to its previous success in fending off Lupan fighters. Warp capability for the Eon can still be pursued as the warp field generator and inertial dampeners are functional. Improvements to the deflector systems will be necessary if experimentation is continued. Further investigation is also needed to determine the exact nature of the comm distortion during the incident.
After integrating a miniaturized warp field generator into the Eon alongside inertial dampening systems, we launched the craft's first warp test flight on Forged Earth's Landing Day. The Eon was fully examined and the new systems deemed safe, and the testing region was thoroughly scanned with no hazards being detected by our sensors.
The test began smoothly, with the Eon accelerating to Warp 1 and maintaining the low FTL speeds. Lieutenant Baelai continued to accelerate the craft, initially without incident but soon we began detecting destabilization of the warp field and a strange distortion in communications from the Eon. Chief T'Quila attempted to contact the Eon to instruct Lieutenant Baelai to decelerate, but she did not appear to receive our communication. We continued to hear from the Eon until it dropped out of contact, likely due to a field collapse.
Ensign Carter extrapolated a search radius based on the last known location and velocity of the Eon, as well as the maximum possible acceleration it could have achieved before field collapse. Calculating that we had 4 hours and 38 minutes before the Eon would run out of oxygen, we began a multi-vessel search and rescue effort, deploying all available small craft to assist with the search.
During this time, we also attempted to determine what went wrong with the test in case it presented any clues to the Eon's whereabouts. While most of what we observed indicated a warp field deterioration leading to total field collapse, the communication disruption was not a known side effect of a destabilizing warp field. As such, I suspected subspace interference, but it was impossible to confirm how this occurred and presented no clues for the search effort.
With only a little over an hour left, shuttlecraft Mysti detected a faint plasma trail into a nearby nebula. Though there was no guarantee this was the Eon's warp trail, it was the best lead we possessed and we decided to follow the trail into the nebula. Inside the nebula, we located the damaged Eon and brought it into the port hangar for inspection, with Lieutenant Baelai being beamed directly to sickbay.
Captain Se'lai, Cadet Tierno and I proceeded into the hangar to examine the Eon. Chief Sullivan reported that he was unable to retrieve the sensor logs on board due to the Eon's neural interface locking down all its systems. Cadet Tierno volunteered to attempt recovery of her logs due to familiarity with the Eon's controls from the training simulator. With the local sensor data, we were able to confirm that the Eon was affected by outside interference, likely a small subspace anomaly that we overlooked as it was far too minute to affect even Federation shuttlecraft. However, Forged Earth deflector did not function properly at FTL speeds and Lieutenant Baelai was not able to react quickly enough to the presence of the anomaly. Chief Sullivan was able to pinpoint the exact point in the log where the Eon must have impacted the anomaly, and as it did not register on the Eon's sensors, the QanwI' is being dispatched to the location to investigate further.
Lieutenant Baelai was unconscious in sickbay shortly after recovery, kept sedated due to an imbalance in neural chemistry that Commander Meel has not observed in patients before. She was unaware of her surroundings when the doctor first attempted to wake her, but when we returned after she had restored the neural chemistry and treated the other injuries, Lieutenant Baelai appeared to be in good physical and mental health.
