Soon it starts jumping about like a butterfly in flight, completely off its plotted course. NARRATIVE: During our scheduled survey mission, the Valley Forge encountered unusual readings on long range sensors which warranted closer investigation. Upon approach it quickly became apparent that the instability of the region surrounding the anomaly had an increasingly detrimental effect on helm controls and so the Valley Forge was brought to a halt at a safe distance while a strategy was formulated. The resulting proposal was to first attempt to gain more data with a probe, however once launched; it seemed that the probes automated trajectory was problematic and it was lost before returning any positive data. A second plan was reviewed and authorized in which a small team would approach via shuttlecraft in order to conduct more detailed scans within the anomalous region, reassured by all simulations supporting the feasibility for us to maintain a transporter lock on the occupants.
Based on my debrief with the mission team, I surmise that the shuttle - whilst still finding difficulty to navigate the unpredictable subspace pockets (which I would now liken to navigating a volatile asteroid field without visual cues) - was able to locate the nexus point of the anomaly region. The team describe witnessing an unusual phenomena which saw them transposed out of the anomaly; sensors indicating that they were in the same position, though astral navigation returned inconsistent results. Furthermore they did not detect the Valley Forge within range.
Before being able to further quantify their position, the ship was approached by an unidentified aggressor which promptly moved against them before it was intercepted by another vessel described as 'similar to Starfleet design but with borrowed elements'. The intercepting vessel destroyed the unidentified aggressor and insisted that the shuttle was brought on board to accommodate a safe withdrawal from what was apparently a known danger zone. With no suitable alternative to hand, or means to deny the instruction, the shuttle was taken on board the ship - later identified as the FFS Watatsumi - where they were met by personnel in previously unseen Starfleet uniforms, and greeted by one Captain Rumiho Mitsuki.
With the Watatsumi's CO clearly being an older version of the cadet everyone recognized as the Valley Forge's pilot for the mission, the natural assumption of temporal displacement was theorized; although soon discounted by PO Simpatichnaya due to inconsistent sensor readings at the nexus point and observations made by Captain Mitsuki. The future captain also talked about known subspace wakes in the region of space (as known to her) which were the result of a conflict in which subspace and dimensional weaponry were used. This combined to spur the PO into theorizing a dimensional shift. The theory was conclusive and - despite portraying some reluctance - Captain Mitsuki agreed to assist the team in establishing a means to return, though this was more challenging than anticipated. Offhand comments observed from the Captain suggest that they were accustomed to dealing with temporal displacements to the point of even having a reintegration plan predetermined, however the cross-dimensional circumstances here seemed to overrule that.
The team were able to successfully develop a modification to the Watatsumi's main deflector which would reopen an identically configured rift that would allow the shuttle to return to it's point of origin (utilizing recorded quantum signatures), though they also learned that they needed to return to the exact same point in order to make use of the established connection which was calculated to be failing at an unknown rate. This prompted a hasty return to the site where the team's shuttle launched and returned through a controlled rift as per their plan. It was also noted by the team that the Watatsumi seemed to be under attack in their wake - a prospect gravely considered by Captain Mitsuki during mission planning - though they were unable to gain any visual record. A light blast consistent with a large explosion or core breach was witnessed and also noted, though with emphasis that they had no means to identify the source.
As the shuttle passed back through the anomaly, they were promptly greeted by our hails. I had been monitoring the situation from the bridge and we noted a momentary 'blip' where the shuttle seemed to vanish from sensors without warning and so contacted them as soon as this occurred to establish their wellbeing. Retrospective analysis suggests that the use of quantum signatures from the point of crossing through the anomaly nexus meant that they were returned to the exact dimensional point from which they left, resulting in a discrepancy between time passed locally and on board the shuttle.
RECOMMENDATION: Since the shuttle's return method seemed to have completely nullified the anomaly - with no further indication of any unusual readings - it is believed that the region is now safe for the passage of ships without requiring any warning buoy placement. That said, a periodic review may be warranted to verify that no anomaly reforms. Additionally, given the closing circumstances and established non-linear displacement; I do not believe any temporal investigation is warranted (everything the mission team was exposed to being an established alternate reality). Though given my lack of personal experience with such encounters, defer to any overriding command decision in this regard.
