Seems like your spook really came through for us then if you're the team here to help" Mana@anncarise: "Mana has analyized scans of the technology before, but only ones acquired by the Valley Forge in combat." Lendaria@crystyll: "More than that; we don't know the tech like our own, so this is a direct transplant. The Kayeri was pretty much built around the integration of this system" Lendaria@crystyll: "So yeah. We took from them the thing that is burning through your ship's shields when you meet them..." Lendaria@crystyll: "We - the Circle - decided in the interest of ongoing diplomatic relations with Starfleet, to share this with you in the hopes that together; we can help develop a suitable defense against it" Lendaria@crystyll: "You've been authorized through your own Intelligence guys - and ours - to see this information, and so everything we have on it is here and at your disposal" Andrej Timoreev@chrisdubois: It is evident, from the look on his face, that he's veeery pleased by Mysti's words. He looks at the console with covetous eyes:"That's incredibly generous. We cannot but thank you." Were it not for Starfleet's intervention we may well have lost the Kayeri to a sabotage attempt from the Branded Lady" Sulayman@drfcrippler#2242 ponders the situation. Lendaria@crystyll: "She's as much our nemesis as yours - perhaps moreso - and so it's in both our interests to develop this defense" Sulayman@drfcrippler#2242: "This design is certainly intriguing," Mana@anncarise looks to Mysti, "Can Mana take a closer look?" Lendaria@crystyll glances to Mana, "Chances are she can tell you more about it than me at this point. My ship doesn't even have this tech and I'm still learning the finer poitns of that!" NARRATIVE: Taking up on the recently received invitation from the OSN's leadership to join them in a united effort to develop countermeasures against the Branded Lady's deflector technology of - as yet - unknown origin; the Valley Forge set course for the Narris system with a delegation on board.
We arrived to a warm welcome - as the first Starfleet vessel to be invited into the heart of the newly formed Orion government - we found the occasion to be regarded as much diplomatically as it was scientifically. Given previous indications from OSN representatives of their desire to forge a lasting alliance with the Federation, it was to be expected; as such, both Captain's Skye and Timoreev accompanied the research team to demonstrate our commitment to the project.
The research team were first presented with details of the OSN's newest starship development - the Kayeri Vaj - a smaller frigate style of ship compared to the previously known Morakos class heavy cruiser (the flagship of which was also present for the research, as it's CO - Tabadi Mysti - has acted as a continued ambassador to the Federation and so was supporting the allied efforts). This demonstrated how the new design was built around the recovered deflector system from one of the Branded Lady's ships and so the frigate possessed the very weapon we were working to develop a defense against - something which the OSN had not even been able to comprehend, despite their possession of it.
Our team worked admirably alongside the Orion's and with the added insight wrought from the intimate knowledge of Mana with these systems - being based predominately on EereE designs - they were able to hypothesize a shield adaptation which would nullify the effects of the deflector. Following promising simulations, the modification was applied to the Valley Forge's shield system before conducting a live trial under fire from the Kayeri Vaj. Though still under construction and not yet commissioned; the ship's base systems were operational to the point of being able to power it's deflector and fire from drydock, and so we positioned the Valley Forge accordingly. A series of trials were conducted systematically, presenting varying circumstances as recorded from previous encounters and the modification stood up to testing across the board.
Additional reports from officers and staff who partook in the offered hospitality on board the OSN orbital station all reported a cordial and welcoming environment, also reporting positive feedback from the Starfleet presence. Visiting officers made particular note of the precautions set in place by the OSN to safeguard visitors from natural side effects to presence of their females as well as a unilateral interest in demonstrating their adherence to Federation standards. The visit ended with the OSN flagship - the Thana Vaneri - flying formation alongside the Valley forge as we departed, with well wishes and extended invitations received from the Tabadi; heralding a further success to the missions secondary diplomatic objectives.
RECOMMENDATION: All Starfleet vessels operating in regions known to be targeted by the Branded Lady forces should be equipped with the shielding upgrade as a matter of course, if not a wider roll out considered in due time also. The diplomatic situation with the OSN - whilst inviting and showing promise for the future - is still far too unstable to be considered for further action at this time. It is this officer's personal opinion that until the Branded Lady threat is resolved for both parties, that contact with the OSN be restricted to further collaborative efforts conducted only by trained and experienced Starfleet personnel. Perhaps when this is resolved and they are granted the breathing room to establish as they are trying to, then a more formal alliance may be worthy of closer consideration.
