Returning to her area of operations, the USS Valley Forge resumes her search and rescue mission. First however, the crew of the Valley Forge must rendezvous with her sister ship, the USS Lexington, which has been carrying out the mission in their stead.

OUTCOME: The fate of the Excelsior-class U.S.S. Lexington (NCC-14427), listed as MIA since 2350, was revealed in a telepathic simulation supposedly based on the memories of a survivor. While there is no confirmation that this information is accurate, it does seem to add up with data currently possessed by Starfleet, including the last known region of the vessel and names of crew members.

NARRATIVE: On stardate 93878.9, personnel from various starships gathered on board the U.S.S. Lexington after we completed our first round of exploration. The rendez-vous was partly for commemorative purposes, but more importantly to update Captain Timoreev and Libra Squadron of search and rescue progress which had been conducted during the Valley Forge's absence. As I was speaking to our visitors, Commander al Firawn detected electrical energy like that of a brain. Commander Eunbi also claimed of a telepathic presence that was disrupting her telepathy. Before anything could be done, we found ourselves on the Excelsior-class U.S.S. Lexington in the year 2350, within what we later discovered to be a telepathic simulation.

At the time, we attempted to discern what was occurring and decided not to contact Starfleet Command for risk of altering the timeline. Lieutenant Sh’vethit and Cadet Mitsuki's navigation skills allowed us to pinpoint our location as somewhere inside the Orion Sector. Colonel Motoko informed me of her past experience with a similar temporal incursion, but we determined that the situation here was different. During this conversation, the crew noticed that the ship computers did not recognize us as ourselves, but as members of the original crew who bore or position. It was then that Commander Eunbi theorized we were reliving the Lexington's last moments as the ship went missing in action during that year.

Following some discussion with the bridge crew, we agreed to continue the set course of the Lexington in hopes that doing so will lead to answers. I pointed out that such an action was likely to put us in danger as the Lexington was never heard from again, but all personnel accepted the risk. When we attempted to maneuver the ship however, Lieutenant Sh’vethit found its movements to be sluggish. Further testing of weapons and warp failed due to the ship's power being drained. Commander al Firawn surmised that we were in the grasp of a Tyken's Rift anomaly, and sensor data confirmed his suspicions.

By igniting the plasma exhaust from our engines, we managed to produce an energy surge powerful enough to break us out of the rift. The moment we were free, we were ambushed by three Orion Syndicate vessels, two corvette-class and one carrier. With systems down across the board due to the rift's power drain, we took heavy damage. I ordered a retreat with torpedo full spread to cover us. Commander Wilson managed to modify said torpedos into a mine weapon, which took down two fighters launched from the carrier, but the remainder severed one of the Lexington's nacelles, rendering the ship incapable of warp.

Without shielding, we were boarded by the enemy. Commander Eunbi and myself were incapacitated by a Lethean's telepathic attacks, though due to the valiant efforts of the rest of the crew, the boarding parties were mostly repelled. Before we could clear the ship, the pirates utilized a different strategy by beaming us to their vessel instead, locking us directly in their holding cells.

In the Syndicate vessel's brig, we were visited by an Orion woman and a tattooed, pink-skinned female with Vulcanoid ears. They identified each other as Sarani (the Orion, who according to our records was a Syndicate cell leader by stardate 34000) and Weya (the tattooed being). Their dialogue suggested that the Tyken's Rift was either exploited, or more disturbingly, set by the pirates to use as a trap. They appeared to have received the technology to detect (or create) the rift from Weya's people. Sirana stated her intentions to wipe our memories using a Klingon device and auction us off as slaves, but before we saw what transpired next we found ourselves back on our Lexington.

Only several minutes had passed in our absence, and according to the crew that were not taken, we were frozen in place as if we were in a tableau. When we returned, we were telepathically contacted by something that identified itself as "the Storyteller." Commander al Firawn noticed that whenever we heard the voice in our head, the electrical energy emitted a brainwave-like signal. We were dealing with an incorporeal entity that was presumably only capable of communicating via these telepathic waves.

The Storyteller claimed that it showed us the recovered memories of one of the surviving crew from the Excelsior-class Lexington as information exchange to prompt us to share a story in return. Commander Eunbi and Lieutenant Sh’vethit volunteered, as well as Cadet Tierno, who Captain Timoreev hoped would have her amnesia cured by the being who was able to restore memories to the Lexington survivor. However, the Storyteller could not detect any hidden memories in the cadet and left after gaining the stories it wished to archive.

RECOMMENDATION: The degree of truth to the Storyteller's simulation is unknown. It stated that what it presented was not necessarily truth, but one person's recollection of it which had been recovered from a damaged mind. However, the ability of this entity to do such a thing is not confirmed as its power did not have effect on Cadet Tierno. It is recommended that this narrative be recorded, but not added to historical records until more reliable evidence can verify it.

The appearance of Matriarch Sirana in this memory simulation and her allegiance with the tattooed being may warrant further investigation. Intelligence records state that Sirani's Syndicate cell was the origin of the pirate organization currently led by the Branded Lady, who as I understand has also been conducting raids on Federation ships.
