The Valley Forge's search for missing officers leads her to a strange new world where they have detected wreckage far more advanced than the native population's technology. Regardless of whether this is what remains of the escape pods or something much older, it is Starfleet's duty to ensure that less advanced societies are not corrupted by outside influence.

Previously: USS Valley Forge, with the assistance of starships Endeavour and Saraswati, tested countermeasures against Species 2492 while searching for signs of the Gainsborough’s missing crew. After attaining a rough idea of where to search, several probes were dispatched to identify potential planets that survivors could have taken refuge on. The first batch of results is now in, and Valley Forge and her task force have scouted one world to no avail. They are now approaching a second unexplored system… ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Keelah@crystyll: <C> Valley Forge to all task force ships; check in and form up on us Quint@jorathedarnesse: <C> Valley Forge, this is the USS Victory, XO Darzen Commanding till you arrive with Cpatain Quint. Fiona@falconecoose: <C> This is the USS MacAlpine, all systems are green and ready to go. Ashikaga@jazzband#1356: <C> USS Gneisenau reporting in, prepped and ready for the mission. Sam@drcrippler: <C> This is the USS Endeavour, First Officer Alfred speaking, Captain Bishop should be with you on the bridge. Quint@jorathedarnesse looks around. "Any place you need or want me Captain?" Keelah@crystyll turns back to Quint, "Hard to say Captain, until we arrive at this next destination at least" Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. "Fair enough." he goes and leans against the consol frame. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I hope this system yields better results than the last." She mutters to Quint. Quint@jorathedarnesse looks over his shoulder. "Faith...remember?" he offers a smile. Keelah@crystyll looks back to Sam, "And we will just /have/ to make time for that drink when we get back. How's the leg now, by the way?" Moon@Savesh holds finger to mobile comms headpiece "Captain, the Victory, MacAlpine, Gneisenau, and Endeavour have checked in with status green." Mathilda@EledriPrime gives Quint a tiny nod. Sam@drcrippler: "It's been on and off." Sam replies. "Thought I'd bring my cane so I woudn't have to steal your chair this time." Sam grins Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you, L-T" turns back to Sam with a chuckle, "Just so long as you don't go falling over again!" Sam@drcrippler Sam puts a hand on Keelah's chair. "I don't think I will." Moon@Savesh: <C> "This is the USS Valley Forge. Status acknowledged and forwarded to our CO. Please stand by." Keliaya@anncarise arrives on the bridge and nods to Keelah before taking her post at the console. Moon@Savesh: <C> "Valley Forge to taskforce vessels. Prepare to receive comm authorization for holographic uplinks." Sam@drcrippler: "We have a good team here today." Sam says looking around. "We could find them." Mathilda@EledriPrime glances to Quint, lifting her eyes from the data on the system, "I suppose so." Fiona@falconecoose: <C> MacAlpine acknowledges, standing by. Moon@Savesh: FX: Holographic presence network established for all participating COs Sam@drcrippler: "Not a dead end...merely another step closer..." Quint@jorathedarnesse shakes his head with a smirk. Keelah@crystyll: "Forever the optimist!" she chuckles Moon@Savesh: Captain, remote holopresence network established with participating vessels. Fiona@falconecoose nods to the others on the bridge as her hologram flickers into life "Captains." Keliaya@anncarise | Helm: "We're approaching the coordinates, captain. Ready to drop out of warp in sixty seconds." Fiona@falconecoose her hologram moves forward towards the other Captains "So what can we expect? You have the most first hand knowledge here I belive." her question is adressed to Keelah Keelah@crystyll: "Expect the unexpected. These are our first steps into this region of space, so it's anybody's guess" Quint@jorathedarnesse: This is about as far as I've let Gemini ships explore...Officially off the map now. Keelah@crystyll: "Prepare for standard deployment as we drop from warp" Fiona@falconecoose rolls her neck slightly "So just like normal then." as she motions to people on her bridge and can just be heard over the comms "Sound general quarters." Sam@drcrippler Sam chuckles at Fiona's comment. Moon@Savesh begins scans for local comm signals Quint@jorathedarnesse looks over. "Perfectly prudent." Mathilda@EledriPrime scans the system for warp trails pre-existing the taskforce arrival. To Moon@Savesh: No comm signals in this area outside of our ship-to-ship communications. Moon@Savesh: understood To Mathilda@EledriPrime: No detectable warp signatures. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I'm not picking up any warp signatures in system, Captains." Moon@Savesh: "Captain, I'm reading no comm traffic in the system that would be indicative of an advanced civilization." Fiona@falconecoose looks over at Sam her eyebrow raised in question but dosn't say anything. As the MacAlpine starts scaning for any subspace distortions that may indicate the presence of cloaked ships Keliaya@anncarise | Sensors indicate that the world of interest is the second, a habitable but fairly inhospitable planet. Keelah@crystyll: "No sign of distress beacons then..." she sighs, "I guess that would have been too big a hope. Very well" Moon@Savesh: No sir, so far, the system is emissions quiet. I'll continue monitoring. Sam@drcrippler Sam taps orders to the Endeavour from his PADD. "I have the Endeavour doing geological and atmospheric scans," He says quietly, more to himself than anyone else. Quint@jorathedarnesse shakes his head "Well lets make the most of it. Split the ships up and do an intensive scan of the surface by sections." he looks over at Keelah. Quint@jorathedarnesse: Your call. Moon@Savesh can be heard in the background repeating the hail "USS Valley Forge to any Gainsborough survivors receiving this hail, please respond." To Sam@drcrippler: Atmosphere is similar to that of Vulcan, thin but breathable. Keelah@crystyll: "If the system is secure, let's head in and take a closer look" she nods in agreement To Moon@Savesh: No response. Sam@drcrippler: Ta :) Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Personnel recovery triage teams are on standby, should we locate the crew on the surface, Captain." Sam@drcrippler: "Atmosphere seems to be thin but breathable." Sam says. "That's a good start." Moon@Savesh looks discouraged for a moment that he hasn't gotten a response, then continues to do his duty and repeats the hail every 30 seconds. Quint@jorathedarnesse nods "Coms..Signal Victory to do a system sweep..Make sure we are alone out here." Fiona@falconecoose points to someone on her own bridge before turning to the over captains "If we need to, the MacAlpine is fitted for complete single ship SAR operations." Moon@Savesh: Acknowledged, Captain Quint Fiona@falconecoose: "The MacAlpine has already run a scan, we are alone out here. For now." Moon@Savesh: <C> Valley Forge to Victory. Captain Quint would like you to conduct a sweep of the system to ensure we are the only vessels in the area. Acknowledge." Keelah@crystyll: "As are we all, Captain. But since we have the numbers, I suggest we assume a stretegic deployment around the planet and each conduct localized - intensive scans to pinpoint any areas of interest" Moon@Savesh: Captain Quint, Victory acknowledges order and have indicated they have been conducting system sweeps. They report 'no one but us out here.'" Sam@drcrippler: "I agree, the Endeavour is already taking scans on these coordinates," Fiona@falconecoose nods slightly "The MacAlpine can start on the far side of the planet." Keelah@crystyll: "We'll take up position around from the Endeavour. Helm; plot for geosync orbit" Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. "Thank you." he looks over to Fiona. "Figure Victory adn make a pass with you, Valley Forge and the Endeavour cna start on this side...Few minutes and we cna be out o fher.e" Fiona@falconecoose: <FX> The MacAlpine starts to run invassive scans of the far side of the planet section by section once it was in position To Sam@drcrippler: There seems to be concentrations of lifesigns suggesting settlements, the largest of which contains about 60,000 of the same species, enough to constitute a city or proto-city. Quint@jorathedarnesse: <FX> Victory takes up postion and starts to scan the surface for key materials in escape pod construction and life signs. To Quint@jorathedarnesse: There seems to be concentrations of lifesigns suggesting settlements, the largest of which contains about 60,000 of the same species, enough to constitute a small city. To Fiona@falconecoose: MacAlpine detects signs of technological wreckage. Quint@jorathedarnesse: simply for the asking as it woudl be reported what level of tech? Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Permission to begin pulling data from all scans to paint a complete picture of the planet as more data comes in?" Sam@drcrippler: "The Endeavour has found a large concentration of lifesigns s To Quint@jorathedarnesse: No tech detectable, but they have buildings Keelah@crystyll nods to Tilly, "Please do" Sam@drcrippler: "There's probably a city down their, in the numbers of 60,000 of this species" Quint@jorathedarnesse: <C> Victory to Valley Forge, we've got local life signs. Very pre industrial." Fiona@falconecoose: "We have detected multiple readings of technological wreckage." Keliaya@anncarise: "Confirming...definitely something down there..." Moon@Savesh: Captain, Victory is reporting pre-industrial life signs. Mathilda@EledriPrime returns the nod and begins co-ordinating with the other ships to pool scan data for a deep planetary imaging result. She taps on her console a lot. Keelah@crystyll: "Is there any correlation between the location of the wreckage and the life signs?" Moon@Savesh ties in sensor feeds directly to tilly's station Sam@drcrippler: Can Sam do a detailed scan on the city? Mathilda@EledriPrime gives Moon a nod and mouths 'thank you.' To Sam@drcrippler: Definitely! Information coming in a sec... Fiona@falconecoose looks to someone on her bridge "We are sending you our readings to see if they have correlation." Sam@drcrippler: Np :) Fiona@falconecoose: | The MacAlpine sends it's sensor readings to the VF for comparison Moon@Savesh nods to LtCmdr Konieczko Quint@jorathedarnesse: Ours or not...I'd liek to send a recovery team depending on how this goes. Keliaya@anncarise: "The wreckage isn't by any settlement...but the closest one is that big city." Moon@Savesh: Captain, I've routed sensor data transmission from all taskforce vessels to LtCmdr Konieczko's station for comparative analysis. Keelah@crystyll: "Well that is something at least; I do not cherish the thought of cleaning up any incident with a pre-warp civilization while we are at it!" Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I'm currently attempting to correlate the data and see if we can answer some questions, Captain." To Sam@drcrippler: Sam has an archaeological backgground, yes? Sam@drcrippler: Yep :) Keelah@crystyll: "Excellent work" she acknowledges with a smile Quint@jorathedarnesse looks up at the screen. "We could beam down a search team with no risk of contamination." Keelah@crystyll: (to both!) Keelah@crystyll considers Quint, "That... had crossed my mind" Moon@Savesh focuses the subspace transmitter on the location of the technological wreckage "USS Valley Forge to any Gainsborough survivors. If you are receiving this message, please respond." Mathilda@EledriPrime: "If our people are down there, they might have moved to a location that would give them space from the city, but also allows them to infiltrate and scout for needed supplies, rations, medications." Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. "Its a smart play..no shuttle...no noise. Worst case is a few loners..and we'd likely see them first." Keelah@crystyll: "That would make sense. We can only hope that if it is so; then the locals have not found any advanced technology yet" To Sam@drcrippler: The city's inhabitants is in a very early stage of deevlopment, but large public buildings are already present. Sam would find it very similar to early-Uruk. Sam@drcrippler: Awesome :) To Sam@drcrippler: There is however, something odd about the city; in the centre is a large, ziggurat-style structure, but scans cannot penetrate beneath ground level there. To Moon@Savesh: No response Keelah@crystyll: would there be a fitting point in this story to actually find an escape pod, and missing crew member? Sam@drcrippler: "The city is facinating archaeologically." Sam says with awe Keelah@crystyll: sorry... 'missing' crew member xD Mathilda@EledriPrime returns the nod and begins co-ordinating with the other ships to pool scan data for a deep planetary imaging result. She taps on her console a lot. Keelah@crystyll: "Is there any correlation between the location of the wreckage and the life signs?" To Moon@Savesh: No response Sam@drcrippler: "The city is facinating archaeologically." Sam says with awe Sam@drcrippler: "They're in a very early stage of development but they have large public buildings built. That shows signs of some sort of elite and class system." Keelah@crystyll considers Sam with an intrigued smile, "Any insight you can gleen into this civilization from it?" Sam@drcrippler: "There's a large structure in the centre, possibly a palace or a temple. But the Endeavour's sensors can't penetrate underneath it." Sam says puzzled. Mathilda@EledriPrime looks up at Quint preemptively. Quint@jorathedarnesse steps over whiel the others are working on the culture. "YOu get tied inot Victory's sensor grid?" Keelah@crystyll quirks a brow, "Some... natural element hindering sensors?" Mathilda@EledriPrime nods to Quint, "Yessir. We're pulling data from every ship in the taskforce. Is there anything specific you want me to look for?" Keliaya@anncarise: "A little too well placed if you ask me..." Sam@drcrippler: "Possibly. They could have built it on this element. The Endeavour will do some more scans." Quint@jorathedarnesse: Ya....Do a deep scan of the crash site. Time frame and see if the tech is ours please." Sam@drcrippler: "Possibly. They could have built it on this element. The Endeavour will do some more scans." Quint@jorathedarnesse: Ya....Do a deep scan of the crash site. Time frame and see if the tech is ours please." Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I'll do my Best." She nods to Quint and attempts to scan the crash site for technological indications ofr Federation origins, time cues as to how long it may have been there and condition. Keelah@crystyll looks between her fellow Captains, "Whatever this element is... could be linked to 2492's ability to resist sensor penetration also. This warrants closer investigation if nothing else here does" Quint@jorathedarnesse looks over. "More reason for an away team at that point.....but definately a careful one." Keelah@crystyll: "Indeed..." To Mathilda@EledriPrime: The wreckage seems to be stripped of most of it's technology. Hull composition however matches those used in several Beta Quadrant designs. Mathilda@EledriPrime looks to Quint, "We've got hull debris, consistant with a number of beta quadrant species, but the tech's been looted, stripped clean." Quint@jorathedarnesse: Strippped......Can you tell how long its been there? Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Still checking that." Mathilda@EledriPrime continues to check that. Quint@jorathedarnesse: Between the wreckage and the sensor blocking....We really need a few boots on the ground folks.. Sam@drcrippler Looking at Quint. "I agree. This warrants a deeper search and I'm not just saying that because the city is a fascinating archaeological find either." Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I'm having difficulty determining an exact timeframe on how long that wreckage has been there, Captains. But sensors indicate a window that suggests /at least/ three centuries." Keliaya@anncarise: "That's older than the Federation..." Quint@jorathedarnesse looks over to Tilly and nods. "Well....Its not our people but....This needs follow up." Keelah@crystyll: "Well then... let us hope that wormhole did not also displace our people through time, else this will not form a happy ending..." Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I don't like to speculate, but I wouldn't rule out a temporal event here. As odd as it seems, it could be a remote option to consider." Moon@Savesh says under his breath "those poor people." Quint@jorathedarnesse looks back over. "What makes you say that Tilly?" Sam@drcrippler: Can the Endeavour scan the city again, to see if any wreckage is used within the city? Keelah@crystyll: "Speculation is indeed dangerous, but all possibilities are on the cards until ruled out. Can we learn anything more conclusive from here?" Sam@drcrippler: Maybe checking older buildings first? :) To Sam@drcrippler: Mhmm! No detectable signs of wreckage tthere thouggh Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I don't have any data to back the theory up, yet. I'm searching for that, but it's always possible." She says to Quint, "It shouldn't be ruled out, until the data does it for us." Sam@drcrippler: Any indication as to how old the city is? :) Mathilda@EledriPrime scans for chronometric anomolies with the wreckage. Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. "Alright..." he lets out a breath. "Honestly....We've got folks out there missing. I say we mark this for follow up and check the next location." he shrugs. "We need the data but..." To Sam@drcrippler: There are some signs of very old buildings, but much of it is newer. To Mathilda@EledriPrime: No signs of time travel Keelah@crystyll: "If it were just the interesting anomaly we found, I would agree. But the potential of the wreckage at least needs to be ruled out completely" Mathilda@EledriPrime: "The data isn't supporting the temporal theory." She updates. Sam@drcrippler: "The city seems to be fairly modern." Sam frowns. "Hm, the amount of old buildings to new buildings seems to suggest the city was built quickly..." Sam@drcrippler: Awesome, could I scan for any walls? Are they around the old buildings or new ones? To Sam@drcrippler: The surrounding area is also vvery sparsely populated, so likely mass migration into the city or sometthing To Sam@drcrippler: and no city walls, just usual mud-brick house walls Keelah@crystyll: "Would it be fair to say then; that the only way we are going to get a solid ID on this wreckage is to put eyes on it?" Quint@jorathedarnesse: Sounds like it at this point Keliaya@anncarise: "I'm not reading any life signs around it, so I don't see the harm in taking a look." Sam@drcrippler: "I agree." Sam replies Mathilda@EledriPrime: "We could transport some of it to the cargobay." She wet blankets your fun. Quint@jorathedarnesse nods towards Tilly. "That too." Keelah@crystyll: "Then we shall head down and take a look. I don't want to risk disturbing it unless we have to. Given the timeline, it could now be significant to this culture and further tampering may impact them Keelah@crystyll: more than we know" Quint@jorathedarnesse: Fair point. Mathilda@EledriPrime nods, as that sounds reasonable. Sam@drcrippler: "It seems like the city has grown quickly through migration or so. The surrounding area seems to be very sparsely populated. Something forced them to move..." Sam mutters. Keelah@crystyll: "Lieutenant Keliaya; please ID and distribute beam down coordinates to all ships. We will reconvene on the ground" Keliaya@anncarise: "On it, captain." Keelah@crystyll: "Gentleman, I assume you'll be joining also?" Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. Sam@drcrippler Sam grins. "I wouldn't miss it!" Quint@jorathedarnesse: In the off chance this goes sideways..I am bringing a rifle. Mathilda@EledriPrime eyes Quint a moment. Sam@drcrippler Sam grins at Quint. "Pistol and my cane for me!" Quint@jorathedarnesse: Plan for the worst....hope for the best. Deal with everythign in between." Quint@jorathedarnesse smirks. Keelah@crystyll: "Let us then assemble in the transporter room." looks to all PC's present, "That means you too" Keliaya@anncarise chuckles, "That cane is fantastic." Mathilda@EledriPrime nods to Keelah, "Aye." Moon@Savesh blinks in surprise at an away mission, but recovers quickly "Yes, Captain." Keelah@crystyll lets everyone dream up their own inexplicable reasons for going along Quint@jorathedarnesse nods "See ya down there." Sam@drcrippler Sam winks to Keliaya. "Shhh, no spoliers!" Keliaya@anncarise smirks, "I didn't tell anyone what it does!" Keliaya@anncarise stands and heads for the transporter room. Mathilda@EledriPrime is going because empaths are helpful with locals when things go sideways. Mathilda@EledriPrime is going because empaths are helpful with locals when things go sideways. Moon@Savesh: Captain...s, all audio visual mission recording devices show green. Universal translator system green. Your linguist is a little unaccustomed to being on an away mission, but he also shows green. Moon@Savesh smiles weakly at his feeble attempt at humor. Mathilda@EledriPrime looks to Moon, "Don't forget to breathe." Moon@Savesh looks over at tilly with an appreciative smile. "thank you, counselor. sound advice." Mathilda@EledriPrime smirks slightly and nudges Moon with her elbow lightly, "You'll be alright, just stay alert." Moon@Savesh appreciates her sisterly familiarity "Oh, I'm alert for certain" looks around at the scenery Moon@Savesh taps his mobile communications headpiece "Beginning mission recording, Captains." Keliaya@anncarise | The wreckage looms beyond them, now nothing more than pieces of metal in unrecognizable forms. Keelah@crystyll looks around, "Well... that probably isn't any escape pod at least..." Sam@drcrippler: "We still seem to be clear of any life forms" Moon@Savesh looks around, making sure to get a visual record of their surroundings. Keliaya@anncarise scans the wreckage, "Not much my tricorder can read that the ship didn't pick up." Sam@drcrippler Looks at Keelah. "Perhaps a closer look?" Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Isn't it odd for there to be no animal life? Or were we just scanning for people?" Keelah@crystyll: "That seems prudent. Care to lead the way, Captain? This is old enough to constitute a dig site after all" she smiles To Sam@drcrippler: There are some animals, but not much due to the harsh environment Mathilda@EledriPrime scans for hazardous radiation. Keelah@crystyll follows the eager explorer Keliaya@anncarise: "There's a few animals here and there...they probably don't like the desert any more than we do." Moon@Savesh takes up the rear, so he can continue to make sure everyone is in frame while recording Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I can't say I blame them." Sam@drcrippler Sam cane sinks in the sand so he grabs it from the middle and walks without it Keliaya@anncarise nods, "And I thought climbing through tubes in this jumpsuit was bad..." Sam@drcrippler taps the wreckage with his cane Moon@Savesh: at least your jumpsuit isn't 40 years out of date. I can't wait for requisitions to come up with a modern uniform that I'm not allergic to. Mathilda@EledriPrime looks back at Moon, "It's a classic." To Sam@drcrippler: Nothing on this piece of wreckage, just broken hull Moon@Savesh tugs at his old spandex uniform and stops it from riding up, "I like to think so, Counselor." Keelah@crystyll chuckles at the uniform discussion Moon@Savesh performs the Picard Maneuver. Blarg@bobisgod171 keeps an eye out for anything to shoot. Sam@drcrippler: "My hi tech cane says that this is a a piece of wreckage." Mathilda@EledriPrime rolls her eyes playfully at Sam. Moon@Savesh moves closer to the wreckage and taps his headpiece "Scanning for recognizable iconography or other symbols." Keliaya@anncarise | An avian creature swoops overhead and lands atop the wreckage. It's about the size of a large bird of prey, but doesn't seem to bbe of any threat. Sam@drcrippler: "I think we should split up. Have a look around. Just stay within earshot and yell if anything attacks." Mathilda@EledriPrime eyes the bird, after a start and a step back. To Moon@Savesh: No symbols on this piece. Keliaya@anncarise | The bird stares for a moment before taking off. Moon@Savesh: no recognizable symbols or iconography on this wreckage, sirs. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I hope that one wasn't the scout." She mutters. Mathilda@EledriPrime moves a hand to her pistol, leaving it in the holster, she makes sure it's set on stun with her fingers. Keelah@crystyll: "Splitting up to canvas the area seems reasonable Captain" she nods Keliaya@anncarise: "Agreed, splitting apart would be good seeing how much ground we've to cover." Sam@drcrippler Sam starts to walk further into the wreakage Mathilda@EledriPrime gives Quint a quick sitrep, "No intelligent life on scans, except for us. Sporadic animal life, big facking bird, and some wreckage." Keliaya@anncarise scans as she moves about. Moon@Savesh sets his tricorder to mobile command unit mode in anticipation of the away team splitting up. Quint@jorathedarnesse unslings his rifle as he looks around a bit. "Well this shoudl be fun. Lets see what there is to see." Blarg@bobisgod171 moves to keep Sam in sight. Crazy Captains, liable to get themselves killed. Keelah@crystyll wanders the wreckage and looks for signs for local influence or tampering Sam@drcrippler Sam starts to walk further into the wreakage Mathilda@EledriPrime gives Quint a quick sitrep, "No intelligent life on scans, except for us. Sporadic animal life, big facking bird, and some wreckage." Keliaya@anncarise scans as she moves about. Lets see what there is to see." Blarg@bobisgod171 moves to keep Sam in sight. Crazy Captains, liable to get themselves killed. Keelah@crystyll wanders the wreckage and looks for signs for local influence or tampering Mathilda@EledriPrime nods to Quint, choosing to be his tag-along. Moon@Savesh begins tracking location and lifesigns of each away team member Keliaya@anncarise: As Keelah wanders, something on a piece of wreckage catches her eye... Sam@drcrippler: Sam climbs to the top of the sand dune, with a bit of difficulty, and starts to look closely at this piece of wreakage Mathilda@EledriPrime starts scanning for anomalies and the standard stuff. Keelah@crystyll hrms curiously, bending down to take a closer look at something on the wreckage Keliaya@anncarise: The script is faded and half of it is buried in sand, but the iconography is recognizably Vulcan... Quint@jorathedarnesse makes hsi way out and aruond towards what might look like somthign intact. Keelah@crystyll 's eyes widen as she can make out some scripture markings on the metalwork. She looks back to Moon, "Lieutanant Commander... take a look at this, would you" Moon@Savesh: yes sir, one moment. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Careful Emery!" She calls after Quint. Moon@Savesh his fear is quickly replaced by academic curiosity "ooh, what do you have here?" To Quint@jorathedarnesse: Quint's searches yield a console, mostly buried but with just enough of a screen sticking out of the sand. Moon@Savesh begins scanning the script and running results through the universal translator Sam@drcrippler: Sam bends down, pull out a trowel and starts to excavate a small area around the wreckage, Keelah@crystyll points out the scripture, "How's your written Vulcan? Because unless I'm imagining things... that is what we're looking at here" Quint@jorathedarnesse nods as he works up the dune. "No joke......" he inspect the remains from above. "Hey..there's a console in this heep here." he points to a small jut out of the sand. To Moon@Savesh: There's not enough to piece together a translation, but it's either Vulcan or Romulan, with the first being more probable. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Huh, can we interface with it?" Moon@Savesh: Oh I love written Vulcan. the script is so expressive... Mathilda@EledriPrime kneels down and attempts to connect to Emery's console. Quint@jorathedarnesse clears away some of the sand and junk form aroudn it. "Lets see what we've got...And hope so." Moon@Savesh: ....but Captain, these forms are very old. Proto Vulcan and possibly even romulan. Keelah@crystyll: "Can you make any of it out?" Moon@Savesh bends down to take a closer look To Mathilda@EledriPrime: The console has no power and can't be connected to directly, but it seems intact enough to still be storing some data if it can be dug out. Moon@Savesh: let's just see ::hums absentmindedly as he looks over the script Moon@Savesh kneel Moon@Savesh sits down. To Moon@Savesh: You make out one word. "Expeditionary" Mathilda@EledriPrime: "If we can dig this out, and remove it carefully, we may be able to power it up and recover the data." She says to Quint. Moon@Savesh: Well, isn't that disappointing, I need a little more to make a translation, but, see these forms here, if I'm not mistaken, this connotes the word "Expedition...no, expeditionary, yes. definitely." Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I'm not sure we have what we need to do it here though." Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. "Alright." he grabs somethign to use as a shovle and starts to work the sand and junk away. "Well, if we cna at least remove it..and its intact DS 13 engineers will love it." Sam@drcrippler: Sam tries to see if he can uncover anything under the wrekage that may have been left behind :) Keelah@crystyll: "hrm... one moment" Moon@Savesh gets up and dusts off his pants, then formally records the fragment of script, and his observations of it. Mathilda@EledriPrime nods and uses both hands to dig sand away from the thing. To Sam@drcrippler: There is some misc pieces of technology...and if he digs deeper, a datapad... Sam@drcrippler: "Bingo!" Sam grins Keelah@crystyll walks over to where Sam is digging, "Captain... do you by chance have-..." tilts her head, "Bingo?" Sam@drcrippler Sam points to a datapad, embedded in the sand. To Sam@drcrippler: It's worn and definitely non functional now, but there could still be data extractable from inside. Quint@jorathedarnesse pulls more sand away and slides it clear. "What do you think our odds are on this working?" Moon@Savesh finishes his recording of the script, and moves over to continue recording the rest of the away team's efforts. Sam@drcrippler: Awesome thanks! :) Keliaya@anncarise: A very worn datapad, with recognizable pre-Federation Vulcan design. Keelah@crystyll: "Aah... bingo!" she chuckles, "We have also had some success but need to clear away the sand to read it properly; do you have anything suitable in your digging tools?" Sam@drcrippler Sam carefully starts trowelling away at the find, "Yes I do," Blarg@bobisgod171 looks down at his rifle. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "If I'm guessing, I'd say pretty good. It seems mostly in tact and despite the sand, we have the means to recover even badly corrupted data." Keelah@crystyll eyes the datapad as she speaks, "That... is a very old Vulcan design of datapad..." Mathilda@EledriPrime scoops big handfuls of sand away from the mystery console. Sam@drcrippler Pulls out a toothbrush and a small lollipop stick Sam@drcrippler: "Here you go." Sam hands them over to Keelah. "I'll get it and out bring it over." Sam smiles Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. "True." he digs till he finds some kind of access pannel. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Until we try, I can't say for certain though. So we should pull this out, either way." Sam@drcrippler: ((*out and)) Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you Captain" she smiles, returning to her found scripture To Quint@jorathedarnesse: Access panel has some sand in it, this is definitely not good for the console. Mathilda@EledriPrime looks for connectors and detatchment points for the console Quint found. Keelah@crystyll kneels and careflly starts trying to expose more of the text Moon@Savesh: Captain, may I say, you have a very sharp eye. Not everyone would recognize this as vulcan. Impressive, to say the least. Sam@drcrippler Sam carefully takes out the datapad and brushes it down. Quint@jorathedarnesse clears away a pannel and opens it. "Crap...." he motiosn to TIlly. "It wasnt fully sealed. Plenty of sand in here." He shakes his head. "THis'll take work" Moon@Savesh watches as Keelah clears away more of the script Sam@drcrippler: "Shall we move on down?" Sam sees Blarg and smiles Mathilda@EledriPrime nods to Quint. "It's not hopeless though." Blarg@bobisgod171 nods to the Captain. Keliaya@anncarise: "...Expeditionary (unrecognizable) vessel" Sam@drcrippler Sam peers over Keelah's shoulder Keelah@crystyll: "...Expeditionary... /something/ vessel, I think?" Keliaya@anncarise: From Keelah's knowledge of Vulcan, most likely "Vulcan Expeditionary Fleet vessel." Quint@jorathedarnesse pulls his tricorder off his belt and scans the inside of the console. Moon@Savesh: very interesting. I'd be curious to see what the chemical dating on these pieces are. Moon@Savesh runs the additional exposed script through his Universal Translator. Keelah@crystyll: "I suspect that this then should read 'Vulcan Expeditionary Fleet Vessel. If my history is accurate" she smiles To Quint@jorathedarnesse: The console is very worn and will require a lot of work to be functional. Its data storage seems very well preserved though. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Let's hope whoever's ship this was, they used something for media storage that doesn't degrade over time, or is vulnerable to magentism." To Moon@Savesh: Not much else readable, just fragments of words and articles and such. Sam@drcrippler: "Keelah, use this to clear away more of the panel," Sam offers his trowel Quint@jorathedarnesse holds the tricorder so TIlly can see it. "Hey look at this...THe data units intact." he smirks. "A ray of sunshine." Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Nice!" She nods firmly. Moon@Savesh: You're probably correct Captain, but I'm afraid not much else is readable, just fragments of words. I'll get detailed 3d render recordings for further analysis. Quint@jorathedarnesse: So...how about we change gears here and pull the data moduel? Instead of dig up an entier dune. Moon@Savesh begins high definition passive scanning of the item. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "You're the boss." She smirks. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "I suppose we /could/ go the easy route." Quint@jorathedarnesse shakes his head. "Ya....Definatly like old times." he jokes as he starts to find a way to get at the moduel. Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you" she stands and turns to Sam, "This... is admittedly rather intriguing" Mathilda@EledriPrime: "We need to be careful that we don't activate some failsafe." She scans for failsafes that might wipe data off the drives. Moon@Savesh completes his scans, and resumes tracking away team activity. Sam@drcrippler: "Let's see what we can get from the data pad." Sam says, agreeing with her To Mathilda@EledriPrime: There is no failsafes anywhere. Quint@jorathedarnesse: Well...there are worse things....Like a self destruct and a bomb. Keelah@crystyll: "Agreed. Perhaps Lieutenant Keliaya can be of assistance there" Mathilda@EledriPrime: "It should be plug and play, if you can suss it's location, just pull it free." Sam@drcrippler Sam suddenly grins. "We could need to do a full excavation!" He says cheerily To Quint@jorathedarnesse: The module can be retrieed after some work. Quint@jorathedarnesse: no boobie traps? Keelah@crystyll chuckles, "One step at a time Captain" Mathilda@EledriPrime: "No countermeasures I can see." To Quint@jorathedarnesse: Nothing at all. Sam@drcrippler: "Well you know archaeologists...if that step isn't digging then it's a waste of time!" Quint@jorathedarnesse nods "Alright....here goes." he gets his hand on it and carefully pulls it form its housing. Mathilda@EledriPrime puts a palm on Quint's back to steady him as he pulls the thing loose. Keelah@crystyll chuckles, "Alright, let's see about this datapad" Moon@Savesh: ::to Sam and Keelah:: I'm sorry to interrupt, but if this is Vulcan wreckage, maybe it would be worth doing a mineral ossification scan for trace vulcan bone material? To Quint@jorathedarnesse: It's very old but recognizable technology. The information can be read if it can be made compatible. Sam@drcrippler Turns to Moon. "That's not a bad shout lad" Quint@jorathedarnesse smiles as it comes loose. "Here we are." he eyes it over before passing it over his shoulder to TIlly. "I've seen this design used before." Mathilda@EledriPrime has traces of Vulcan bone material. Keelah@crystyll: "An excellent suggestion indeed" Mathilda@EledriPrime takes the unit from Quint and blows the sand away like an old NES cart, "Engineering is going to have fun with this." Quint@jorathedarnesse laughs a bit. "Oh I'm very sure of that." Moon@Savesh eyes brighten at their response, "Ok, great. It's been quite a while since I took comparative anatomy, but I think my science tricorder can help me fill in the gaps." Keliaya@anncarise rendez-vous with Keelah, "Captain I found-" she holds up a datapad and stops, "Oh, looks like I wasn't the only one." Mathilda@EledriPrime tucks the until into her hip pocket pouch of holding. Mathilda@EledriPrime: *unit Moon@Savesh sets his tricorder parameters to look for mineral percentages commonly found in vulcan bone tissue Quint@jorathedarnesse checks for anythign else of merit before sitting up. Mathilda@EledriPrime: "Is there anything up here that we can recover, Sir?" Sam@drcrippler frowns slightly "It does seem that..." Moon@Savesh scans the environment with a tricorder. Keelah@crystyll: "Carry on" she nods to Moon with a smile, looking to Kelly with a chuckle, "It would seem so! Think you can get any power back to either of them?" Quint@jorathedarnesse: THe whole thing seems...sunk. I"m willing to be we've got the only prize we will get with any ease. Keliaya@anncarise shakes her head, "These are way too broken for repair, but I salvaged the information chip..." Sam@drcrippler Brightens "Double the finds, double the data!" Moon@Savesh programs a micro recording drone to continue to watch over the away team while he scans for bone material Moon@Savesh scans the environment with a tricorder. Mathilda@EledriPrime nods, "Alright then, Emery. Let's not break our necks getting down. When you're ready, Captain." Mathilda@EledriPrime carefully rises up. Keelah@crystyll: "With luck, we can at least learn something from these chips back on board the Forge then" Moon@Savesh scans the environment with a tricorder. Keelah@crystyll: "This may not be our missing personnel; but with luck we can at least put their memory to rest" Moon@Savesh scans the environment with a tricorder. Keliaya@anncarise nods, "I'll see what we can pull out of them." Mathilda@EledriPrime offers Quint her hand. Moon@Savesh absent mindedly continues to wander around, his attention focused on data gathering. Keelah@crystyll: "Well if there is nothing more here for us... we should regroup and return to the ship" Sam@drcrippler: "But the excavation!" Sam begins to protest jokingly Moon@Savesh scans the environment with a tricorder. Keelah@crystyll smiles, resting a hand on his shoulder, "Maybe next time, Captain!" Keliaya@anncarise: "We can always come back, like with that archive." Keliaya@anncarise: "Something this big isn't going to go anywhere!" Keelah@crystyll nods to Kelly's suggestion, "Exactly, see!" Sam@drcrippler: "Yay!" Sam chuckles Sam@drcrippler: "Right then!" Sam twirles his cane "Back to the ship we go!" Quint@jorathedarnesse takes the hand and gets up and dusts off. Moon@Savesh recalls the micro recording drone Keelah@crystyll wanders off to find the others, chuckling more to see them crawling around on top of wreckage, "Having fun up there you two?" Mathilda@EledriPrime pats her hip pouch, "The Captain recovered a data module." Sam@drcrippler Sam moves to the dune to help the two officers down Moon@Savesh: did i find any vulcan bone fragments? Keelah@crystyll: "Another one, excellent! Well we're just about set to head back now" To Moon@Savesh: Nope. No dead Vulcans here, just native animals Quint@jorathedarnesse nods. "Ya...Lets clear out before someone takes note." Moon@Savesh: Captains, I'm afraid my ossification mineral scan didn't turn up anything. just native animal tissue. Keelah@crystyll: "Not to worry, we have ample findings to continue our study back on the ship" Keelah@crystyll activates her combadge. Moon@Savesh: I agree! I'm looking forward to dating that writing. Keelah@crystyll: <C> Se'Lai to Valley Forge; Seven to beam up

LOCATION: POI-XH-001, Alpha Quadrant

MISSION: We were sent by command to conduct Search and Rescue ops at a possible location of survivors of the USS Gainsborough.

OUTCOME: No Gainsborough survivors were recovered during this portion of the mission. A planet with a pre-industrial civilization was investigated on which the wreckage of an ancient vulcan craft was located.

KEY PERSONNEL:

CAPT Keelah Se'lai - USS Valley Forge CAPT Emery Quint - USS Victory CAPT Fiona Skye - USS MacAlpine CAPT Samuel A. Bishop - USS Endeavour LCDR Mathilda Konieczko LCDR Banyan Moon LT Keliaya SGT Blag

NARRATIVE: A task force comprised of the USS Valley Forge, USS Victory, USS MacAlpine, and USS Endeavour was tasked by command to conduct search and rescue operations for possible survivors of the USS Gainsborough incident in POI XH--001, Alpha Quadrant. I was assigned as a mission-specific Communications Officer for the USS Valley Forge.

I was ordered to establish a stable holo-presence network between the task force vessels so that their respective commanding officers could consult on assigned tasks during the mission. As we exited warp and entered the system, I conducted routine monitoring of subspace frequencies in an attempt to locate any Federation homing beacons as well as to identify the presence of any other vessels or advanced civilizations in the area. I am sorry to report that the system was emissions quiet.

The task force vessels began extensive sensor scans of the system to search for evidence of survivors and/or the presence of other vessels in the area. The results of those scans were compiled by LCDR Konieczko. Scans revealed a habitable planet in which there was evidence of a pre-industrial civilization. There was also evidence of advanced ship hull materials on the planet's surface. Fortunately, these readings were located well away from said civilizations; reducing the chance of any Prime Directive complications. Also of interest was a material which served as the foundation for a centrally located building within a city. The material confounded conventional scans.

After the COs believed all orbital level investigation methods had been utilized, an away team was assembled to investigate the hull-material readings. My function on this away mission was to conduct audio-visual and holographic recording of the away mission, as well as to serve as a linguistic specialist. CAPT Bishop took the lead as an archaeological specialist and Sergeant Blag provided site security.

The away team discovered the wreckage of an ancient Vulcan vessel. CAPT Se'lai discovered hull markings with ancient Vulcan text. I was tasked with translating the text, though CAPT Se'lai impressed me with her innate Vulcan knowledge. Together, we were able to discern that the available script was translated to "Expeditionary Force Vessel."

CAPT Quint, LT Keliaya, and LCDR Konieczko recovered at least one intact data chip from the wreckage of the vessel.

I conducted high resolution scans of all recovered script fragments, as well as a ossification mineral search based on typical Vulcan bone tissue. The mineral scan revealed no results, other than the remains of local fauna.

The mission commanders decided to keep the away mission brief to reduce possible Prime Directive issues, and we returned to our respective vessels in orbit.

RECOMMENDATION: The ancient Vulcan vessel presents an interesting linguistic find and archaeological mystery that has yet to be solved. After the task force has completed our primary mission of search and rescue, I believe it would be an appropriate use of resources to dispatch a science vessel to further investigate the origins of the wreckage, as well as conduct further study of the pre-industrial civilization on this world. If nothing else, it would be relevant to learn more about the material that made scanning difficult within the previously referenced city.
