BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

A socially awkward Bolian, Juna was always very unusual for her species. She only began to speak at least a year later than most other children and displayed extreme nervousness around unfamiliar people, including those of her own age. Her shyness made her very introverted and she completely lacked the outspokenness characteristic of most Bolians. Her parents and instructors grew very worried for her, and did their best to assist her in dealing with other people. Juna eventually learned to communicate with others, but she would still often slip up, causing her to prefer being isolated, despite the kindness of those around her who wanted to include her in their activities or be friends.

Juna’s intelligence only became apparent in her later years of childhood. While her fellow classmates struggled with scientific and mathematical concepts, Juna seemed to immediately grasp them all without needing to ask her teachers a single question. She excelled at her academic work and easily bested all the other students in terms of grades. This earned her respect among some, but only further increased her state as an outcast among others.

Feeling that she did not belong on Bolarus IX, Juna chose to study at the University of Alpha Centauri. There, she discovered that there were numerous people who were more intelligent and possessed more knowledge than she did. Bested at her own speciality, Juna was dismayed at first but later came to the realization that many of her professors were not natural geniuses, but attained their position through hard work. Focusing all her effort on her studies, Juna once again rose to the top ranks of the class. She graduated with majors in biochemistry and molecular genetics.

During the events of (and directly prior to) the Iconian war, Juna participated in two research projects supervised by Starfleet. While neither project was completed in time to assist the war effort, her role in them earned her a small degree of recognition among her peers.

Once the war ended, Juna enrolled in an exchange program to the Vulcan Science Academy to study and work under Professor Sarel. As a side project, she is also studying the teachings of Surak, partly to better fit in with the Vulcans, and partly as an attempt to attain their renowned reasoning abilities.
