BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Tusken Aravir Gar Pen, or "Tusk" to his crewmates, or "Pig-Pen" to his academy classmates, was born on Beshik V; a Tellarite colony known for its beauty and prime access to several trade routes. His parents ran a popular resort called Kazasta Village, which hosted many merchantile and diplomatic events; giving Tusk ample opportunity to learn several languages during his childhood.Tusk was eager to see the galaxy, but his parents were overprotective. Tusk was their miracle baby, as Aenar and Tellarite DNA take a lot of genetic coaxing to be compatible. They had tried to conceive twice before without success. He rebelled early from this kit glove treatment, and was attracted to risky sports like martial arts and parrises squares. A supportive Aunt helped him train for tournaments, and he eventually earned his parents begrudging respect when he took the bronze medal in mixed martial arts during the 125th Federation Summer Olympic Games at age 17. With some reluctance, they supported his interest in joining Starfleet.

PERSONNEL SUMMARY

Tusk is a tough-as-nails Starfleet officer who is as opinionated as he is pessimistic. His sharp tongue is matched by his sarcastic wit, and he is passionate about using debate to uncover hidden truths. Although he has a gruff exterior, he looks after his crewmates, and his known for spontaneous acts of kindness and heart. He is a Communications officer and has extensive knowledge and training in communications systems, cryptography, and ciphers, linguistics, starfleet protocol and xeno-anthropology. He is fluent in many exotic languages, and knowledgeable in a wide variety of cultural practices. In is spare time he enjoys martial arts sparring, scented mud baths, and caring for his vision assist companion animal. He has four mantras that guide his actions: KEEP YOUR SNOUT CLEAN Discretion is highly valued in the hotel industry, and Tusk learned early the merit of doing a good job and avoiding gossip; useful qualities for a communications officer. This attitude has shaped his career philosophy, encouraging him to do what's expected by Starfleet regulations to the letter. He expects others to follow regulations closely, as well. QUESTION EVERYTHING Tusk takes nothing at face value, and will play devil's advocate when the opportunity arises. He believes in the command structure, but doesn't have much respect for officers that fall back solely on their ranks to justify their decisions. PROTECT THE HERD Tellarites dislike practically everything and everyone. Over the years Tusk as learned that personal disagreements disappear when your away team is surrounded by the Borg. You look after your own, and you never leave a crew member behind. ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION Tusk is loathe to stick his neck out unless absolutely necessary. He has little respect for impulsiveness or impatience, and tends to be conservative in his work and his world view.
