BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Born in 2339, T'Sal's mother was a humanitarian worker in the Bajoran refugee camps on Valo II where she grew attached to one of the Bajoran community leaders. At the express wishes of her father, T'Sal was taken to be raised on Vulcan as the refugee camp was no place for a child to grow up. As a result, she spent the first thirty years of her life learning the Vulcan ways of logic. When the Cardassians finally withdrew from Bajor, her father returned to his homeworld and invited her to join him. Though T'Sal was initially reluctant to take up the offer, she was persuaded to do so by her mother.
On Bajor, she began to understand the other side of her heritage, coming to admire the Bajorans' resilience and sympathize with their plight as her mother had. When the Bajorans declared war on the Dominion following the recapture of Deep Space Nine, T'Sal sought to assist both her peoples in their war effort. Knowing that she would have to spend time training if she signed up with Starfleet, she instead enlisted with the Bajoran Militia, and it was as a militia member that she participated in the Dominion War. She never traveled through the Bajoran wormhole, but from the tales she heard from both Bajorans and Starfleet officers, she slowly grew more and more faithful to the Bajoran religion.
T'Sal remained on Bajor as a militia member following the conflict and Bajor's acceptance into the Federation, though she returned to Vulcan for her pon farr (starting late due to her Bajoran heritage) where she married the Vulcan biologist Sorol, one of Vulcans to accept her more unorthodox beliefs. By 2413, T'Sal was a Major in the militia when she lost her son to the Undine attack on Earth Spacedock. Choosing to once again involve herself in an intergalactic conflict, she accepted a commission as a Starfleet security officer and was given the rank of Lieutenant Commander, the naval equivalent of her position in the Bajoran Militia.
Over the next year and a half T'Sal saw extensive action, and when the Iconian War was finally concluded, she was reunited with her husband, who had also joined Starfleet to serve as a science officer. After a long leave on Bajor and Vulcan, they both took postings on board the USS Gainsborough, where they brought their young daughter with them.
