ROLE
Provide Air, Space and Cyberspace Warfare capable craft and staff throughout the United Federation of Planets.
The Starfleet Starfighter Corps (SFFC) was founded in 2379 when Starfleet Command acknowledged the increased use of short-range fighters and committed to better training of the pilots and support staff of these vessels.
ORGANIZATION
Each wing is made up of a pair of Groups of three Squadrons each. A squadron twelve fighters of the same class and type and is usually the smallest independently operated unit. Within a squadron are three Flights, each made of two pairs of fighters called a Section.

SQUADRON TYPES
Valkyrie Class/Series | Multi-Role Starfighter

The Valkyrie-class was a type of small spaceship, a fighter design representing a new model of Federation strike craft introduced into Starfleet service after the Dominion War in the late 24th century.
Following the decision to form Starfleet Fighter Command it was also decided that the new Command would need a new line of craft to operate and replace the ageing Peregrine Class of Fighters, along with having a base design that they could modify to fill a variety of roles.
Along with the previous requirements, another requirement laid out by SFFC in the design of the Valkyrie series is that each craft is capable of multi-mission operation be it from close protection to aid missions.
Each wing is made up of a pair of Groups of three Squadrons each. A squadron twelve fighters of the same class and type and is usually the smallest independently operated unit. Within a squadron are three Flights, each made of two pairs of fighters called an Element.
Strike Fighter (VFA)
This designation was assigned to squadrons equipped with the new Valkyrie Strike Fighter and the Scarab Attack Fighter. The Valkyrie and Scarab are all-condition Starfighters used for attack and fighter missions. In fighter mode, they are used as a fighter escort and for ship defence; in attack mode, they are used for force projection, interdiction and close and deep air support, along with being capable of SEAD tasking.
Fighter (VF)
Unlike the VFA Squadrons, the Fighter squadrons operate the older Peregrines and the Orca fighters. The Orca is used solely for planetary and low-atmospheric protection, and the Peregrine provides close protection for stations and short-range solar system service.
Reconnaissance (VQ)
The Recon squadron fills a range of roles from feeding recon and targeting data back to its base of operation and the group/wing it is attached to, to proving cyberspace warfare capabilities by intercepting, jamming and collecting communications and signals for intelligence analysis.
Training Squadron (VT)
There are two types of fixed-wing training squadrons: Primary training squadrons train students in the first stage of flight training leading to selection to one of two advanced training pipelines for Aviators and Flight Officers (Multi Crew or Strike). The advanced training squadrons conduct the final stage of flight training leading to "winging" of the new Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers. Training squadrons are organised differently than SFFC's operational squadrons as training squadrons do not own their own aircraft. All training aircraft are assigned to and maintained by the Training Air Wing to which the squadrons are assigned. The training squadrons are composed only of Instructors and Students, with all maintenance and support functions carried out by the Training Air Wing. Training aircraft are painted orange and white.
Special Operations (VSO)
A Special Operations squadron typically performs under the command and control of SFI or EJOC via the Special Operations Aviation Command in aid of intelligence gathering and covert operations.
