While the Valley Forge continues it's mission, the dust slowly begins to settle at the Heart of Unity for the newly founded Coalition.
And with this newfound stability comes newfound opportunity as many civilizations hurry to make their mark here.
As Starfleet redeploys assets to the Heart and establishes a new base of operations for the region, a new generation of fledgling officers join this frey as the Academy opens it's new Heart Annex.
View Episode
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | The bar in the Academy annex facility of the Heart has a few cadets inside. It isn't the busiest time of the day just yet, which is typically in the evenings, and more of a lunch break for -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - some cadets. As the cadets have different schedules, not every cadet is off-duty yet
Kayleigh@crystyl sits at what she profusely denies to be 'her' chair in the corner. Reading ahead on her next class as usual with her back to the wall and able to keep an eye on everyone around her
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Most cadets are already well into their lunches, so it is unusual when Kayleigh notices someone new entering who didn't just step out for a few minutes. Even more unusual, she realizes that -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - the arrival is totally new, having never seen the face around the annex before. She is dressed in a science division cadet uniform, with the pips of someone in the same year as Kayleigh
Kayleigh@crystyl mentally notes the change and pays no further thought of it
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris stops in the middle of the room and glances around, seeming like she's looking for someone. Except her gaze settles on...nothing at all for a few moments
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris quickly snaps out of it and heads over to the counter. The other cadets, seemingly focused on their own food or conversations, don't notice the unusual behaviour
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris replicates a plate of food and turns back around, once again searching the area. This time, she settles on Kayleigh's table and heads over
Kayleigh@crystyl does notice the spacing out and finds it rather curious
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks Kayleigh over as she approaches, "Hey. You're second year too, like me. Mind if I join you?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I have no objection" she comments before looking up, "You would appear to be a new arrival in the same year as me"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, setting down her tray of food and taking a seat, "That's right. I arrived here with the Beowulf. That's the Odyssey-class that came through the gateway late yesterday."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I see. Is the vessel that brought you here of some significance?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "From what I heard, it's the newest ship being assigned to the Deep Space Exploration Corps. As a replacement for the Valley Forge which went missing recently."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"You are well informed"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I like to talk and socialize. It wasn't exactly a secret assignment or anything!" she chuckles. "Most of the crew were eager to come and explore out here, but also a little nervous. They have some -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - big shoes to fill after all."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, the Valley Forge and it's crew are quite synonymous here. I apologize"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"No need for apologies! I didn't come out here because I knew anyone there personally or something. Though they're only missing, not lost or anything. Hopefully they'll be found soon!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Of course, nobody wishes to see them lost indefinitely. However that is not why apologized"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks up from her food, "What'd you apologize for, then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl lowers her PADD and gestures to the room, "You said you like to socialize. But I was the only viable option here for you, hence an apology for the inconvenience"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Oh!" she laughs. "No, you're fine! Not much of a social person then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"As much as bubbly and cheerful Vulcans might be synonymous with the Valley Forge as this place itself is, I am not the cadet who is responsible for that impression"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You're talking about Captain Se'lai's daughter?"
Kayleigh@crystyl nods, "As I surmised; well informed. And not just on the political picture it would seem"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Not that I should be surprised though. As the prodigy child of the legendary captain, she is much a celebrity out here as her mother is"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "I, uhh..." she glances to a chair across from Kayleigh, which is currently empty, then quickly looks back to Kayleigh again. "I read some of the reports on this region before I came out -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - here. And I have a very good memory."
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow at the glance, "Are you expecting someone?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"No, no, it's...nothing," she eats a spoonful of rice from her tray
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Was it also nothing when your attention drifted in the same manner after you first arrived here?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Oh, you saw that too. I was hoping no one noticed it," she eats another spoonful of food before continuing. "That's why I came out here. You probably found it a little unusual to have a new -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- cadet transfer over in the second half of a year I imagine. Typically these things happen at the very start of one."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"True, but change is a regular theme here with everything being so new. So why is your drifting attention reason for you coming here?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "That's because it's not drifting attention." She pats the chair she was looking to. "T'Pia's sat there before, hasn't she? And she tried being all...bubbly, as you describe it. But -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - you...didn't take nicely to it."
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow, glancing to the chair and back, "We have had such interactions in many places. So you see a form of psionic echo?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "The experts call it retrocognition. It's the opposite of precognition. I get...flashes of things that have happened in places I am. Precognition is a known ability that a few species -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - have, like the Yattho and El-Aurians. Retrocognition is apparently much more rare."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"And I presume for you, a result of recent events. So you are here to hone your abilities more than study at this new annex"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Well I came here because I was recommended to work with the Chlasi to control these new abilities. They're more familiar with retrocognition than most species and have set up a temple out here to -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- help people like me who've developed psionics recently. But I'm a cadet too, so I'll be continuing my studies at this annex while I train with the Chlasi."
Kayleigh@crystyl gives a nod of approval, "A most logical approach to your situation. I believe in the same circumstances, I would have followed the same course of action"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles at the approval and eats another spoonful before asking, "What brings you to this annex, then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl gives a slight groan, "My parents"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris gives Kayleigh a surprised look, "Your parents? They made you come out here? Or...join Starfleet to begin with?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I am not adverse to a career in Starfleet. However I was quite comfortable at the academy in San Francisco. My parents were quick to take postings here though, and determined that I was not yet old-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- enough to remain alone. And so, I transferred to this annex for my second year"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Both your parents are in Starfleet, then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, my father is CSO on the Guan Yu while my mother serves in fleet logistics"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris eyes Kayleigh's division strip, "Fleet logistics...is that a part of Command, or Operations?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Operations. I am not following suit" she comments, in response to the glance
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Why'd you choose to go Tactical, then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Before joining I took a number of aptitude tests and they showed an affinity for command. Tactical was the logical choice given the command related elements to that curriculum"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "That makes sense! So does your family have a history in Starfleet, or is it just your parents?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"A few ancestors have served as well, yes. What about you?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I'm not from one of those families with a tradition of service, but we've had family members in Starfleet here and there. My grandfather on my mother's side is a retired medical officer, and -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- grandmother was an enlisted nurse. There's a few ancestors in the 23rd century. And there's an ancestor on my dad's side who was an engineer in the old Earth Starfleet, back during the Romulan War."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"No one you'd know from the history books, though."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"All in all, quite similarly and unremarkable family histories we share. Though I must confess, I do not know the same level of detail. I placed no value on the information"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Oh I hope you're not getting the impression that I'm one of those people obsessed with bloodlines and family history! I just have a very good memory," she takes another spoonful of food. "That's -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - why the doctors and psionics experts think I'm naturally inclined to retrocognition. Something about the minds of most people being more inclined towards precognition, but I'm better at -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - looking backwards."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Your ability is indeed rare. From what I've observed already, can I take it that you currently exercise little to no control over it, and are subject to these random flashes?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "That's why I need training."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Have you considered utilizing mental discipline techniques?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I haven't needed any specific techniques for that before I got these abilities. Vulcans are good at them, right? With your emotional control and all."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes. It is all about exercising control over one's own mind. Whilst we do not utilize them in any dedicated fashion towards psionic abilities, the overall effect should be quite beneficial as -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- mental discipline overall"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I'm up for giving it a try! I'm sure good overall mental discipline can only help with the psionic training I'll be doing."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Well now, I believe it is customary for me express well wishes and 'good luck' with this endeavour"
Kayleigh@crystyl says like she doesn't realize she was volunteering to help in the first place...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Wait...you didn't say that because you were offering to show me?"
Kayleigh@crystyl almost chokes on her drink. almost, as she realizes. Quickly recovering, "I am no tutor, just another cadet like you. I am sure there are far more experienced teachers here for you..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Well I'll be studying with the Chlasi too, but we cadets are supposed to help each other too, aren't we? Working together's as much a part of our training than our individual education."
Kayleigh@crystyl gives a resigned sigh, "Your logic is once again flawless... well, if you insist then I will oblige. Though I make no promises as to my effectiveness in teaching you"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "No pressure! Like I said, it's worth a try though!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"So what do I call you? If we are to spend more time together outside of class now, then it would seem appropriate to know who you are"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"And I was just about to ask the same of you too! I'm Mariel Tanglao. You can call me Mari for short if you like."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Mari. Very well, I am Kayleigh"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Kayleigh...that's sounds like an Earth name. /Maybe/ Orion, or Klingon if converted to Federation standard to sound less rough. I haven't met any Vulcans with a name like that though..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is an Earth name, you are correct. My mothers preference exerted over my father's indifference. I have previously considered adapting it to a more Vulcan form, but as a hybrid born off world I -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- do not consider myself enough of a true lady to use the traditional 'T' prefix. And so it would then simply shorten to Kay, which people tend to do even as from the current Earth naming -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- convention, so I saw no logic in pursuing a change that would see no change"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Good logic. Your mother prefers Earth names?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I believe it was the name of her younger sibling who died when they were children. I believe that created an emotional connection to the name that - for some reason - drove her to impart it to me"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Ahh I see. Your mother's human or part human, then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Human. If there is anything else in the mix, it is far enough back to not exhibit any distinct traits"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "I couldn't tell just from looking at you- you still have all the Vulcan attributes. And the following logic and everything," she chuckles
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I may be half-Human in heritage, but my blood still runs green"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I know, Vulcan blood type is generally dominant, pretty much always so when it comes to humans," she grins. "So it's true in both senses of the saying!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, to be more precise though; I walk the path of logic like my Vulcan father before me. Unlike a certain other Vulcan-Human hybrid in our class, assuming she returns of course"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I suppose Spock the most famous Vulcan-Human hybrid also walked the path of logic, as you put it, so it's pretty par for the course. Anyways, I should let you get back to class! I don't start -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- until the day after tomorrow, but I'm sure I'll see you in some classes since we're in the same year!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Indeed, most of the cadets around them are wrapping up their lunch and heading out
Kayleigh@crystyl:"And that makes it likely that we will be in the same dormitory area also. So I will see you around, Mari"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "See you around Kay!"
—
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | A day after meeting Mariel, Kayleigh is in her quarters after classes when the doorbell rings
Kayleigh@crystyl opens the door, "Cadet Tanglao, hello"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Hello Kay! I'm not interrupting anything, I hope?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Nothing of consequence. Would you like to come in, or is my attendance required somewhere?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Oh you're not needed anywhere specific! I was just hoping to ask a few things since you're the only cadet I've properly met so far," she chuckles. "May I come in?"
Kayleigh@crystyl steps aside, "Of course. Please make yourself comfortable. Do you require tea?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris steps in and takes a seat, "Some tea would be nice."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Aah, so it is one of those talks then. How interesting" she notes, seeing to the replicator
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"What...kind of talk are you referring to, exactly?"
Kayleigh@crystyl glances back, "It is my experience that within established social circles, when one leans on another for guidance this is often eased by the drinking of tea"
Kayleigh@crystyl returns with the drinks and sits across from Mariel, "Am I mistaken?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "You're spot-on, actually. I just wanted to ask about some Academy class related things."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Well then, I shall certainly endeavour to ask. It is only logical to find out all you can before stepping into things"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"My thoughts exactly! There's a few things...you said your father's a Chief Science Officer, right?"
Kayleigh@crystyl nods, "Correct"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I know you're not in Science myself, but you must know a few things with your father working in it, right? Not like, specific knowledge but...you know, generally about careers in science."
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow, "I... suppose. Though I'm not sure I know any more than the fleet recruiting files gave us when we first joined. Was there something specific you wanted to know?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Oh I was just hoping to ask for a little advice. So I was initially thinking to specialize in biology. It's something Starfleet always needs and my family has a history in biological and medical -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - sciences so I'm fairly familiar with it. But with my new...talents, I was wondering if I should maybe go into archaeology and history."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Your unique ability certainly does put more emphasis on the retrospect. Have your visions ever triggered from distant history, such as an archaeological site for example"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "That's why I was thinking of getting into archaeology! I get a mixture of distant and modern history, I think it depends on what exactly triggers them. When you were talking about T'Pia, -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - I saw her at the table, but I've also seen everything from World War Three soldiers to Iconians..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"That is certainly broad. Based solely on utilizing your abilities now, there is also the possibility of transferring to security or intelligence and specializing in criminal investigation"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I thought about that as well! But I'm not sure I have the other talents that would be required for that. I guess working a hypothesis is similar to an investigation in some ways, but security also -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - has a heavy focus on self-defense and phaser training."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"That is true. But I would imagine that the same principle would also apply to historical studies and archaeology; they are far more than the one element that focuses attention on your abilities"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris takes a sip of tea and nods, "Good point. There's also another career path I was considering, too."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Oh, and what would that be?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Communications. I don't have a particular talent for languages or anything, but that's why I need to study them."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Is this also inspired by your recent ability developments?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "My...visions aren't restricted to the visual. I can hear things that happened too, sometimes independantly of any visuals, sometimes alongside them. But I can't always /understand/ them. -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- The universal translators don't work because it's all playing in my head, there's nothing for it to actually pick up on."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It sounds like your initial question is much broader than it first seemed"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Well sometimes if I remember exactly what was said and repeat it, I can get the translator to actually translate it. But it's hard to remember exactly what was said in a language you don't -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - know. My memory's good, but not /that/ good," she chuckles. "But yes, like I said, it's not a very specific question at all."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"The way I see it, you first have two options to choose from"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"And those are?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"One; put your abilities aside and make your choice independent of them. Or two; dedicate yourself to mastering said abilities and aligning your career path to suit"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "And assuming I decide to dedicate myself to these new abilities, which do you think would be a more fruitful focus? Archaeology, security, intelligence or communications?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Any or all of them, perhaps even others that you have yet to consider. Based on our previous discussion, your abilities are still somewhat wild and uncontrolled. Should you wish to focus your -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- career path around them, you must first master and refine them. I believe that in doing so, you will gain the desired insight into which field they are best applicable"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "That's some great advice, Kay! I think I'll keep my studies in science for now since that's what I've been focusing on since before I got in the Academy, but I'll go with a broad focus -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- until I get better with these abilities. And I'll take some additional communications classes on the side, because I know for a fact that's going to help me use these new abilities."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Like Commander Lendaria of the Valley Forge! She's CSO there, but also quite talented in linguistics from what I've read."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, I have read some of her papers following the first contact events with each of the species now based here. Fortunately, we are only in our 2nd year so you have plenty of scope to broaden your -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- studies and explore additional options before we graduate. Even after that, career paths can still be redirected at any time. So yes, I think the best thing to take away from this is to not rush -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- into making a choice just because a choice has been presented"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Thanks for the advice Kay. I really appreciate it!"
—
Kayleigh@crystyl back at the Heart, life goes on as normal. After a whirlwind first week of finding her way around, Mariel finally gets to enjoy some downtime and finds herself wandering one of the newly -
Kayleigh@crystyl - established and still rapidly evolving recreation areas. Like a city within a city, as with much of the Heart's infrastructure, this area has been established on the perimeter of the Federation -
Kayleigh@crystyl - settlement zone. Multiple tiers of promenades featuring shopping, dining and entertainment have rapidly sprung up and more new developments appear on a daily basis
Kayleigh@crystyl https://i.ytimg.com/vi/MQlUp7ja5yA/maxresdefault.jpg
Kayleigh@crystyl | As she explores the area, she notices a familiar and distinct pink bun on the back of the head of someone wearing a cadet uniform..
Kayleigh@crystyl stands in front of the window of what appears to be a prestigious clothing store
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris steps over, "Hey Kay! Fancy running into you here!"
Kayleigh@crystyl turns, "Mariel, I did not expect to encounter anyone from class here"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Me neither! Here to buy something, or just window shopping?"
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow, "If I required new windows, I think I would first have to raise a maintenance request..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris laughs, "It's a saying, it doesn't mean shopping for windows!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Ah, what a curious turn of phrase. Anyway, I like to come and explore the developing social and commercial areas here. I think it presents a unique area of interest since this is the first time so -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- many of these races have co-existed. So to see how such an area develops is rather interesting"
Kayleigh@crystyl naturally denies that it has anything to do with the elaborate evening dress that she just happened to be studying when she was discovered...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I just came here for some sightseeing. Same thing, different reason I guess. Your sightseeing is just more...logical!" she eyes the dress on display. "That would look nice on you, I think."
Kayleigh@crystyl glances to the dress and back with cheeks flushed to match her hair, "I... well, it is equally curious to see how these different cultures reflect themselves through personal statements such as -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- fashion..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I didn't know you were a textiles expert. What does this dress tell about the culture that made it, then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl looks back, "I am no expert, I simply find cultural studies quite intriguing. Hmm... I'm not even sure which culture this comes from..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I could probably tell you exactly where it's from if I can use these abilities of mine fully...but right now I just get random visions of things that happen where I am. Very occasionally when I -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- touch something."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"With that in mind, I am even more surprised to see you in a crowded area like this"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris shakes her head, "It's not how crowded the area is right now. I think it has to do with emotions. Like...how strong an emotion is. The visions I get unintentionally always tends to be strong -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - moments. I don't normally just see people going about their day. It's usually like an argument, a reunion, a war. And occasionally something relevant to what's happening at the moment, like -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - when we were talking about T'Pia when we first met."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I see. In that case I would say it is fortunate that this area does seem to have been significant throughout the Heart's history as it appears to never have really been touched before our -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- resettlement here"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Exactly why I'm liking it here. There's some parts of the Heart that's a little difficult for me to go into."
Kayleigh@crystyl looks around, "Well, if you are simply here sightseeing and enjoying this area might I suggest a trip to that area up there" she points to a raised level behind Mariel where a cafe is setup with -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- tables along the railing which overlook the large precinct below
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Sure! That seems an interesting place to explore!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It provides a good vantage point for the area. I am certain you will find it to your liking" she turns back to her window shopping, once again failing to realize that she was volunteering...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You're...not coming with?"
Kayleigh@crystyl turns back again, "I... oh, I suppose that was implied with the suggestion wasn't it? Very well then, I shall accompany you"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris giggles slightly as she begins heading towards the raised area, "Come on then! Unless you want to buy that dress first..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I..." she hesitates and glances back, "No, I have no need for such attire" and continues, totally not pouting inside
Kayleigh@crystyl finds an empty table, which she seems to make a beeline for without hesitation...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris takes a seat opposite Kayleigh at the table, "Like the view from here?"
Kayleigh@crystyl looks out over the shopping area below, "This spot offers the best balance between social observation and aesthetic appreciation of the larger area. Or... so it would seem to at a glance..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris eyes Kayleigh, "Do you visit here often?"
Kayleigh@crystyl is as sucky as always at hiding her true intentions...
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I have used this promenade as a baseline for my social study since arriving at the Heart, so I may have visited here previously"
Kayleigh@crystyl ...and is further exposed when a waitress waves and calls over, "Back again Kayleigh, I see! Be right there with your usual!"
Kayleigh@crystyl groans at the timing
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris grins, "I knew it! You like your social study, don't you?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I do find it quite fascinating" she admits
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris glances back down at the shops, "Have you bought anything like that dress? For cultural understanding, of course," she smirks
Kayleigh@crystyl 's eyes narrow at the smirk, this one might be on to her little secrets! "I get the feeling that if I say no, the owner of that establishment will appear behind with another inappropriate and -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- incriminating comment"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The waitress appears and sets a bowl of ice cream down for Kay, "And what's this, a friend today? It's about time!" she grins, "What can I get you?" she asks Mar
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I'll have some mango juice." She eyes the ice cream. "What flavour is that?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is called taesaberry. I believe the dish itself is a Human delicacy, but this flavouring comes from the Chlasi I believe"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"An interesting cultural fusion! I ought to try it myself sometime."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"You are quite welcome to sample it if you like" she scoops half a spoon of the pink (of course it is!) ice cream and holds it out to Mariel
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris leans forward and tries the pink ice cream, "Mmm, I can see why you like it!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | It is naturally very sweet, and tastes something between cherries and strawberries
Kayleigh@crystyl almost seems to smile at the reinforcement of her own preference, and takes a welcome spoonful as well. Clearly having no concept of the anime trope about indirect kisses despite otherwise being a -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- living breathing trope in every other way...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris giggles slightly as her mango juice is served, "You do have a lot of cultural observation to do, don't you!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I concluded that having a valid reason to see out my training here would be beneficial, and this was the logical choice"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "It's quite diverse back on Earth, but this is certainly even more of a melting pot of cultures!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Exactly, and those cultures seen on Earth are much more familiar - both to us and each other. But as I said before, here they are all new to each other and to us. So in a cultural and social sense -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- what goes on here now is much more comparable to Earth back when the Federation was first established. When Humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites all first started working together but had -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- little to no real understanding of each other. Even if this Coalition does not last, or evolves into something not involving Starfleet, this a unique situation that warrants observation"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's a good point! It's like witnessing the birth of a new Federation! I wonder if I can see the founding if I go to the site now. It was a pretty important occasion..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Exactly what site would you specifically pick for that?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Probably the chamber in San Francisco where the ceremony was held, if I wanted to see that. Or any one of the other venues for the negotiations leading up to it. I probably won't get the full -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - thing, just snippets. But maybe by the time I finish training with the Chlasi and get back to Earth, I could control it enough to sit back and watch it all!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"That would certainly be interesting, but arguably also moot since there are many well established holorecords. What about the site of first contact between our forebearers?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I expect I'll be able to see something there too. That was quite a significant event, at least for the humans present."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"And widely regarded as the catalyst which led to the Federation's founding"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"There's also the Romulan War which played an important role in bringing all the founding members together...but that's probably not something I'll go out of my way to see."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"That is understandable" she takes another bite, "So how are you settling in now?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Pretty well so far, I think! I'm getting a good handle on which places trigger my abilities less. And I'm starting lessons with the Chlasi so hopefully soon I won't even have to avoid places when -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- I have more control. Still working on balancing coursework with the additional training, though."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"No easy feat, I can imagine"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Starfleet Academy's already hard work! I think even a Vulcan like you probably doesn't find it a walk in the park, right?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"No... I find it more like sitting in a classroom..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris chuckles, "It's...another figure of speech. You'll get the hang of it, I'm sure!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Ah, yes no doubt I will have to. As with everything else around here, it is all still very new"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Technically, some of this is very old. Like the actual structures themselves!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Well, yes. But contextually new to us"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"True! Maybe once I have more control over my abilities, I can get more context on the Sphere and what everything once was like."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Now that would make for a very interesting aspect to study, especially since there are so few around with any real knowledge of that period. And... most of those are autonomous and lack the -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- capacity to relay relevant contexts to our perspective" her gaze drifts to below, "That said... there are some around who should have more of an understanding"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Like the more smarter Nuhar AIs that are in some of the facilities?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, and then there are the reborn Iconians here. Strange, I have not previously observed any in this area. But today I have seen that same one four times"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You saw an Iconian here today?"
Kayleigh@crystyl indicates below where there is indeed an Iconian who looks to be very suspiciously lurking around corners
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris glances down, 'Huh...why does she look like she's trying to hide from someone..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I do not know, but she has had that same demeanour every time I have seen her today"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You find it unusual too, right? This is their Sphere, they don't need to sneak around in it..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, the behaviour seems quite suspicious"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Do you think it might be a good idea to follow her or something? See what she's up to?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is our duty as Starfleet officers to help protect the Heart and it's residents. It would not be the first time this facility has been subject to covert operations against the Coalition" she -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- glances down again, "However, loitering is not exactly incriminating in and of itself. I believe it would be prudent to investigate further before reporting this"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Yeah, let's keep an eye on her. Security's not going to do anything about an Iconian just standing around."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"This makes for an interesting variation on my weekly cultural observation trip. Not only do we have this unusual Iconian, but further observation could indicate who or what that Iconian is so -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- interested in"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Good point! Let's see what this mysterious Iconian is up to, then..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:rolls 53 (1-100)
Kayleigh@crystyl:rolls 6 (1-100)
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris half-whispers to Kayleigh, "Do you see the Orion? Over there, walking by the hallway that leads to the holodeck facilities?"
Kayleigh@crystyl turns her attention that way and nods, "I see her. Oh, is that the focus of the Iconians attention I wonder?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "I think so. Have you seen her around before?"
Kayleigh@crystyl shakes her head, "I do not believe so, though there are a lot more Orions here typically so one would be less likely to stand out"
Kayleigh@crystyl blinkblinks with a moment of realization...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks at Kayleigh expectantly, "Deduce something with your logic?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, that dress I was, um, studying earlier... I think it was an Orion design, but not quite traditional. So perhaps from the Arshai colony"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's possible, but...I don't think either of them are here for the dress."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"No, I did not say that I deduced anything relevant. Just seeing that Orion woman prompted that realization"
Kayleigh@crystyl gives Marial the distinct impression that she's actually messing with her now...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Oh. Right..." she takes a sip of her mango juice as she continues observing the Iconian and the Orion. "Really interested in that dress, are you..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It was... um, well... an unresolved question in my mind, yes"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smirks, "Anyways! What do you think the Orion's up to?"
Kayleigh@crystyl looks down again and perks a brow, "She appears to be... how did you put it before... window shopping"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "You learn fast, Kay! But why would an Iconian be spying on an Orion that's window shopping..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"If this were somewhere like Risa, such conduct would lead to the conclusion that the Iconian intended to do the Orion harm; mugging for example, or worse"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Given the current threat of espionage here, I believe it more likely that the Orion is associated with either Starfleet or the Colonial Fleet, and the Iconian is an imposter simply masquerading as -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- an Iconian. That would be consistent with known methods of those who have previously acted against the Coalition here"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's true. Orion females tend to be in charge in modern society, right? So she could be a pretty important person to target or spy on."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, especially within the OSN who are also present here. It is impossible to say without seeing her in uniform, but it is quite possible that she is at least a starship commander, if not a Tabadi"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Wouldn't the spy try to impersonate someone a little less...outstanding than an Iconian, though? I'm no spy, but if I was I'd probably choose to look human or Arshai or something..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes but there could be many factors at play which we are unaware of. It could be a circumstantial replacement, or perhaps they figured they could use an iconian disguise without replacing anyone -
Kayleigh@crystyl:-since there are so few of them"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"And more are being cloned here on the Heart, aren't they? So a new one suddenly appearing isn't suspicious..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"And given their seniority here, they would likely have much greater access to restricted areas and systems"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Perfect Vulcan logic as always," she smirks, taking another drink of her juice and keeping a close eye on the Iconian and Orion
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Orion continues her window shopping and soon heads inside one. The Iconian definitely reacts to this and closes the distance
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Okay, the Iconian's /definitely/ following her. Think we should get closer too?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"If they're closing in, they may be preparing to act. It would be helpful for us to get within reach of the Iconian so we can intercept before they do anything" she nods
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris quickly finishes her drink and stands, "Let's go, then."
Kayleigh@crystyl stands as well, thankfully having already finished her ice cream, and makes her way down to where the Iconian is
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris whispers to Kayleigh as they walk, "We should do window shopping or something too. Look inconspicuous, you know. So the Iconian doesn't figure out we're watching her."
Kayleigh@crystyl | With the Orion inside a nondescript store, the Iconian has closed to almost right outside the shop. Fortunately the crowds make it easy for the cadets to close in to a nearby rest area
Kayleigh@crystyl:"You make a valid point" she nods, sitting inconspicously on a bench facing Mar, "Now we can continue a casual conversation here like so many others while you watch the Iconian"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris hops on the bench beside her, "Good call! So casual conversation...back to the dress?" she grins
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow, "You accuse me of fixating on that garment, yet you do bring up the subject an awful lot" narrows her eyes, "If it is so important to you, I suppose when this is done I wouldn't mind -
Kayleigh@crystyl - taking you back there to get a closer look..."
Kayleigh@crystyl wears that typical Vulcan supriority look having successfully turned it around on Mariel!
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "I think it would look nice on you. You should buy it!"
Kayleigh@crystyl inwardly curses this Human and her ability to avoid deflections
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris whispers, "Look, the Iconian's heading towards the shop now."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"She must be preparing to make her move. I do not believe we have the luxury of reporting this to a duty officer, if we are to act we must do so ourselves"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods and stands, "Come on!"
Kayleigh@crystyl stands, "I will cut off her path. You head around behind her so she can not flee"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Got it," she moves to flank the Iconian while Kayleigh cuts her off
Kayleigh@crystyl makes her way to the store where the Iconian is lurking, but turns to the Iconian before entering, "Excuse me, but I must ask you a few questions. Please accompany me"
Kayleigh@crystyl is as tactful as one would expect from a young Vulcan...
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian freezes in her tracks, looking down at Kay and panicking she quickly turns poised to flee
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris cuts off her escape path as planned, "Going somewhere?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian almost trips over Mar, growing more panicked she takes off into the crowd
Kayleigh@crystyl & Marial failed to account for there being more than two possible directions of movement it seems...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That didn't go as planned...after her?"
Kayleigh@crystyl watches briefly and looks back with a nod before taking off after the Iconian
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris runs after the Iconian as well, trying her best to effectively make way way through the crowd, "Sorry! Excuse me, uhh...important Starfleet business!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The inept duo manage to cause quite a ruckus as they chase the Iconian through the shopping district, many civilians taken unaware by the sudden surge of activity and having to dodge out of the way
Kayleigh@crystyl:rolls 21 (1-100
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:rolls 69 (1-100
Kayleigh@crystyl | Turning a corner, the Iconian tumbles over an older Arshai pushing a cart of fresh produce. Exotic fruit and vegetables scatter all over the place
Kayleigh@crystyl | Mariel sees the carnage and manages to hop over the upturned cart to keep up and close the distance significantly
Kayleigh@crystyl:rolls 61 (1-100
Kayleigh@crystyl 's tactical training begins to show as she deftly follows close behind Mariel
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris tries to get use the Iconian tumbling into the cart to try and close the distance
Kayleigh@crystyl | The old Arshai man is less impressed though and shakes a fist at the pair, cursing Starfleet, even though it was clearly the Iconian who knocked over his cart
Kayleigh@crystyl | Mariel is able to close the gap and put the Iconian under more pressure
Kayleigh@crystyl scoops up a ruined piece of fruit as she passes, steadying her stride and launching it like a baseball at the Iconian to off balance her
Kayleigh@crystyl:rolls 28 (1-100)
Kayleigh@crystyl 's aim is either off, or Mariel was a bit too sharp in closing the gap. Yep, Mariel takes a piece of fruit to the back of her head instead of the Iconian...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Ouch, what was tha-" she glances behind her, "Oh you were aiming for her, weren't you..."
Kayleigh@crystyl calls out as she catches up, "Apologies!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian darts into an alleyway between structures ahead, hoping to use the disarray to her advantage
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Nevermind, don't let her get away!" She springs into the alleyway behind the Iconian
Kayleigh@crystyl catches up to Mariel, looking all around, "You keep on her, I think I get around up there and cut them off"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris shouts as she runs after the Iconian, "Stop right there!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian does not stop...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Uhh...we've got phasers and we'll stun you if you keep running!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian hesitates at the mention of phasers without thinking, just in time for Kay to drop down ahead of it, "Please cease and come with us at once"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian again panicks and darts inside a building it seemed to be aiming for this whole time
Kayleigh@crystyl chases inside
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows in as well
Kayleigh@crystyl | Inside, the Iconian has stopped running and turned to face her pursuers
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris comes to a pause as the Iconian turns to them
Kayleigh@crystyl | Iconian: "What is this, what do you want with me?!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Your ruse is up, now tell us why you were going after that Orion!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Iconian: "Ruse? What are you talking about?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You're not really an Iconian, are you? You've come here to...do whatever you came to do to that Orion you were following."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Iconian: "Not Iconian?! Is this some Federation idea of a practical joke or something? Human humour is always so confusing..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"We know you're a spy in disguise! Why would an actual Iconian be tailing an Orion in the middle of the Heart?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian sighs and reaches to pull something from it's belt
Kayleigh@crystyl immediately goes prone, ready to defend herself
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Watch out, she has a weapon!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Iconian raises a hand, "No... but I do have a badge..." pulling from her belt... a Coalition Security Division badge
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Wait...you're with Coalition Security?"
Kayleigh@crystyl relaxes her stance, perking a curious brow, "We... had not considered that eventuality..." glancing to Mariel
Kayleigh@crystyl | Iconian: "Yes, I am Junior Investigator T'Mer. Now please tell me why you have interfered with my investigation!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Uhh...sorry...we thought you were a spy..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "And what would possibly make you think that?!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris glances to Kayleigh, "My friend here made a pretty good logical argument for why a spy would disguise themself as an Iconian..."
Kayleigh@crystyl twiddles her feet shamefully, "And you were acting very suspiciously lurking around the shopping district as you were..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I... oh..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Wait, is the Orion the real spy, and you were keeping an eye on /her/?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer nods: "Exactly, yes! And I was this-" she pinches her fingertips, "- close to apprehending her!" she slumps to the floor, "Now I'll never catch the spy and get my promotion to full -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- Investigator..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks down a little, "Sorry..."
Kayleigh@crystyl follows suit, "I also apologize for our interference..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks back up again after a moment, "We can try to make it up to you! Can we...help you catch her?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer sighs, standing: "No, it's not your fault. You're right, I'm useless at this surveillance!" she straightens with newfound optimism at Mar's suggestion, "You... you would really help me out?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Of course we would! It's the least we can do!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It would be a fitting recompense following our interference" she nods in unison
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Well... I suppose I've got nothing to lose at this point... alright then! Under my authority as CSD Junior Investigator, I here deputize you both and require to you aid in the -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- apprehension of this enemy spy!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris beams, "Thank you! You won't regret it, I promise."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer's persona is showing more and more that she is far from the stereotypical all knowing and superior Iconians. Almost juvenile by comparison
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I am Cadet Kayleigh, by the way. And I will do everything I can to aid in your mission, Junior Investigator"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I'm Cadet Tanglao, and I'll do the same! Can...we know why you're after the Orion in the first place? Did she do anything suspicious?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer bows her head in greeting, turning to a nearby console. Apparently this is her base of operations and the duo followed her right in...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris turns to the console too, "You're very new at this, aren't you? But I guess you were just recently born in the Heart, right?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer nods, "Yes, I was among the first batch of rebirths carried out by V'Elo after the war was settled. As with the rest, I was given accelerated education so that I could aid in the -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- restoration of our operations here"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I thought as much! You seem pretty new at this. But don't worry! We'll help you get to full investigator!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer smiles, "That is kind of you, but those of us from the first batch were created from a process lacking in refinement. My education is sub-standard by Iconian standards and so I will never -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- realize my full potential like those of later batches"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"That is why you are working with CSD where most of your kin are leading development projects around the sphere?"
Kayleigh@crystyl asks, tactfully as always
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer sighs and nods, tapping some more
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"CSD is an important job Kay!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I was not disputing that fact. But local security is a lot different to the types of applications Iconians normally excel at"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris turns back to T'Mer, "And hey you already start out a cut above most other species! We humans and Vulcans don't get special accelerated education. We have to learn things slowly, the old -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - fashioned way. Some of us a /little/ quicker," she glances to Kayleigh. "But even Vulcans spend years mastering their knowledge and logic before they become the typical really smart people -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - they're best known as."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer, "Your pink haired friend right, Cadet Tanglao. Whilst I am by no means defective or inferior next to you Children, by Iconian standards I am simply not capable of operating on the same -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- level as everyone else. Anyway, here you go" she shows the console
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"But you can still learn the old-fashioned way and maybe get there someday!" She looks to the console to check out the info on the Orion
Kayleigh@crystyl | The screen displays a plethora of data detailing random reports from around the shopping district; lost items, missing family (all resolved), disturbances to the peace and so on. There is clearly-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- a highly detailed analysis at work linking everything together and painting a very clear picture of a much grander conspiracy to disrupt operations through nondescript demorilization of personnel -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- through targeted areas like the shopping district. The data goes on to identify suspects through monitored activity which is where the Orions frequent attendance links to a large number of -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- reported events. Second on the list is one description of interest, reading 'Starfleet - blue tunic, not the usual black ones - special ops maybe?. Pointed ears and pink hair - why pink? Is it is -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- a code, or a cipher of some kind? Maybe a signal to their overseers...'
Kayleigh@crystyl reads the data on the Orion, "This does appear to be an alarmingly high frequency of linked results-" then she sees the second suspect and turns to T'Mer, "Hey!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris giggles, "Looks like we're not the only ones who made a mistake in identifying suspects!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer gives a nervous chuckle, "I will not apologize for being diligent in my duty. Though I am sorry to have made such a misunderstanding of you. Although you do remain statistically likely as a-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- supect..." her multiple eyes narrow on the Vulcan
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Is that because she's here for cultural observation a lot?"
Kayleigh@crystyl groans, "Well, at least you have more evidence on the actual culprit here"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer looks to Mariel curiously, "Cultural observation?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's why Kay's always here! In case you're wondering."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer works her console, "Does cultural observation mean visiting every shop in the district on a weekly basis and leaving carrying multiple packages...?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Wait...I thought you were just window shopping!"
Kayleigh@crystyl ahems, taking the liberty of clearing the screen, "A moot point here. We must focus on the Orion"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Right. So, should we just apprehend her, or do we need to catch her in the middle of something?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer clearly doesn't get Kay's reaction, but nods, "The suspect is currently conducting covert surveillance of the district, attempting to identify targets. It would be optimal to catch her in -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- the act so as to refute any possible claim to innocence"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"You know you would never have achieved that the way you were stalking here before, right...?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer fidgets: "I... well, what do you suggest?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Something a...little more subtle than an Iconian loitering around?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Like how you two were doing with me back there?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Did you see us before we started chasing you?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer shakes her head
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "Then it was subtle enough!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer bows her head, "Then in order to regain active surveillance of the target, I will defer to Starfleets judgement"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to Kayleigh, "Let's go find that Orion and tail her then! We can call in T'Mer once we catch her in the act."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "What should I do then?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You can access the surveillance systems, right?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer nods, moving to another console where she activates all of the displays
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You could keep an eye on her from here, let us know where she's going so we don't have to rely on our eyes. Because if we can see her, then she can also see us and if she keeps seeing us she'll -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - probably get suspicious. With you here we can tail her from out of view and only close in when you ask us to, when you think she's up to something."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"So you direct us, and until then, we just go around looking like we're just minding our own business!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer smiles, "That is a very good idea Cadet Tanglao! She retrieves a pair of earpieces that she hands to the two, "Place these in your auditory organs, they will allow me to communicate with -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- you discretely"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, putting the earpieces in, "We'll act inconspicuously for now until you ask us to close in and tell us where."
—
Kayleigh@crystyl | Freshly recruited by CSD to aid T'Mer's investigation, the dynamic due head back out into the shopping district
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris grins at Kayleigh, "Why don't we take a look at that dress while we wait for T'Mer to direct us?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is as good a place as any" she nods
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris heads back towards the store with the dress, "So what's this about packages she mentioned?"
Kayleigh@crystyl tenses, "Well... this is a shopping district after all. So it is only logical to expect that visitors occassionally leave with purchases"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"The way she says it sounds like you come shopping here pretty often."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"As with everything, context matters. One persons idea of often could be anothers idea of rarely..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's true. But have you bought dresses like this before?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"No, not at all. This particular style wasn't here last week, so it's completely new and-" she clasps a hand over her mouth realizing she's finally overstepped
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris grins, "Aha! But you do some here and look at the clothes often!"
Kayleigh@crystyl sighs, then goes all stiff and stoic again, turning to Mar, "Of course, and yes; when I find something which I appreciate, I take it home with me. Vulcans do have a keen sense of the -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- aesthetic after all"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I don't think I've ever seen you wearing any of them, though. I guess most of the time I see you is in class so we have to be in uniform, but I don't think you wear them often off-duty either!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"There is a time and a place for every outfit. Unfortunately, most of those which I end up taking home with me are suited more to grand occassions and not everyday shopping trips"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"There's only so many grand occasions to attend. You're more of a collector then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I... yes, I suppose that would be an accurate description"
Kayleigh@crystyl prefers being a collector of fine artistic fashions than a shopaholic and a clothes junkie
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to the dress she found Kay looking at before, "So, does this Orion one fit in with your collection, then?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is quite unique. I suspect a fledgling designer is attempting to spawn a new synergy style with it. As an early example of this phenomena, it is quite unique and so-"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer cuts her off, "Alright deputies! I have eys on the Orion. She just entered a munitions store north-west of your current position"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Munitions store, good place to catch her in the middle fo something suspicious. Let's go."
Kayleigh@crystyl nods and heads off that way
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris makes her way towards the store slowly, looking around to see if she can spot the Orion before entering
Kayleigh@crystyl | The store isn't the busiest and the tall Orion woman stands out quite clearly, browsing a display of small firearms
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to Kayleigh, "You're wearing a tactical uniform, makes more sense for you to be browsing for weapons. Go and...check out some phasers. I'll just be the friend who got dragged along."
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow at the analogy but nods and begins browsing
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows in, trying to see what the Orion is doing while Kayleigh browses
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Is this why you call it window shopping...?" she asks curiously, tapping on the display case containing the weapons
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Orion seems to browsing a collection of more exotic and high tech arms
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Exactly, yes! It's because you just look at the things through windows instead of actually buying them."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Ah, so it is do with browsing more than there being an actual plane of glass there. Interesting"
Kayleigh@crystyl does not sound as discrete and natural as she thinks she does right now
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Orion glances back with an eyeroll and continues browsing, starting to talk with the Ferengi vendor
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Yes, but I think the saying comes from the fact that it's usually done by looking at the items through the glass," She leans in to whisper to Kayleigh, but then notices the Ferengi vendor and his -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- large ears and thinks better of it
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Orion and Ferengi carry on a conversation in the background
Kayleigh@crystyl may not have Ferengi ears, but Vulcan ones are good enough to discern that they are discussing shipments of large volumes
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris lets Kayleigh do the eavesdropping while she occasionally glances at the Orion and Ferengi as inconspicuously as she can to see if she can see anything suspicious
Kayleigh@crystyl | Mar spots the handoff of a credit chip
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris lets the transaction finish, continuing to observe
Kayleigh@crystyl | With the credits handed over, the deal seems be settled. The two shake hands and the Orion leaves
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris lets the Orion leave before asking, "Anything you like from the selection here?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"No, weapons don't really do anything for me..." she glances to Mar, "Just because I am a tactical cadet doesn't mean-"
Kayleigh@crystyl is interrupted by the Ferengi who appears between the two, an arm slithering around each girls waist, "Hello there little ladies! And what can Dum do for you today?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris jumps at the Ferengi, "Oh, hi! We, uhh...are you the manager here?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Ferengi gives a toothy grin, "Of course! I am Dum! Welcome to Dum's Emporium of Everything You Didn't Know You Needed!"
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow, prizing the vice-like hand from her hip, "That is quite the elaborate store name. Especially when your stock appears to be so... singular"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Dum: "Ah, but that does not make it incorrect now, does it!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's a good point...well, we aren't experts on weapons, as my friend was saying. But given the recent occurances around here I thought it might be good to play on the safe side. So...anything -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - you can recommend, Dum? Preferably something affordable, for, you know, basic self-defense."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Dum clasps his hands together, "If you want self-defense Huw-mon, then you have come to the right place! Dum's Emporium of Everything You Didn't Know You Needed is your one-stop-shop after all! -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- Be it personal shield generators, or advanced weapons. Or for the right price, perhaps a personal bodyguard or two. I have a special offer on Lupan warriors right now too, it is um... happy hour! -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- Yes! Buy one, get one free, but only for the next um... 73 minutes!"
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow, "If it is happy 'hour', then why is your running countdown over an hour...?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Dum stumbles, "I... it's a.... Ferenginar hour of course!" he chuckles, trying to wrangle the two again, "And you know... with such soft and delicate hands, you two fine specimens could easily -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- earn yourselves a little extra discount with some oomox maybe...?" his tone rising with lewd anticipation
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to Kayleigh, "You know how to do that classic nerve pinch thing Vulcans do, right?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, though to be honest I would prefer not to lay hands on him..." she prises his hand free again, stepping away with a hand on Mar's shoulder to free her as well, "I just remembered, Mr. Dum... -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- Starfleet provides us with all our personal defense needs, so I don't think we'll be needing anything today after all. Thank you for your time though"
Kayleigh@crystyl with that, leads Mar away before Dum can counter
Kayleigh@crystyl | Dum waves after the pair, "Dum's Emporium of Everything You Didn't Know You Needed will be here when you realize your Starfleet doesn't give you all you need, you remember who does now!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris breathes a sigh of relief as they exit, "That was not the exit I was hoping to make..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Dum watches a moment longer, toothy grin remaining and greedy hands wringing together. As the pair move out of sight, he returns to his counter and taps an intercom with a devious look in his eye.
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Given the reputation of Ferengi dealers, I think we came out of that quite well"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Yeah...anyways, did you hear anything useful in there?"
Kayleigh@crystyl taps her earpiece as they walk, "T'Mer. We got waylaid by the Ferengi, but it appears that you are right about the Orion. She seemed to be securing a large weapons shipment from the Ferengi"
Kayleigh@crystyl says, equally in response to Mariel
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I knew it! This could be something major. But talking about things won't be enough for us to nail her down without question"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris taps her earpiece as well, "Definitely suspicious, but we probably want to find out what she plans on using these weapons for, don't we?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"We should continue surveillance" she nods
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "You didn't see or hear anything else in there then?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"No, just the weapons deal. I saw her paying for it though so she's definitely made the purchase already."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "You did? Excellent! At least we can tie it all together with that. As for the Orion, she last headed into an executive club on the uppermost level. Sadly, we do not have surveillance -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- inside since they somehow seem to be above the rules there..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I guess we'll just have to go in..." her eyes widen and she looks to Kayleigh with a smile, "This could be the perfect chance to break out one of your dresses for grand occasions!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"This is hardly the time for self-indulgence. We are on official business"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "No, Cadet Kayleigh. She is right!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "This is an exclusive establishment, and they are not likely to permit entry to you in your current attire. I suggest finding yourselves something more fitting before you proceed. Don't -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- worry, I may not be able to see inside the club but I can see if she leaves still! And as for expenses, CSD will cover that for you"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods and grins at T'Mer's approval, "It's not self-indulgence, it's blending in!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Then it would seem that we have no choice..."
Kayleigh@crystyl says, totally skipping around with joy in her head
—
Kayleigh@crystyl | After spending far too long in the clothing store, the two finally emerge wearing their coveted fancy dresses
Kayleigh@crystyl making their way across the district to the club, they are anything but discrete, drawing many an admiring gaze
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Okay, wearing fancy dresses does have downsides..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"This does not feel congruent with covert surveillance..."
Kayleigh@crystyl protests, but seems awfully at home in the elaborate attire
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I'm sure we'll blend in much better when we're actually in the club!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "You two sure took your time! But yes, you will blend in much more seamlessly at the club now"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles as they walk towards the club, "So how's it feel to finally be able to wear a fancy dress and not just collect it?"
Kayleigh@crystyl & Mariel make their way through admiring glances and up to the topmost level where the club is
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Finally?- I mean... yes, it is quite satisfying..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Finally wearing them to a grand occasion I should say..." she smirks, "I'm sure you've tried them on before..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes, finally at a fitting occassion. Because I would never normally find excuses to attend such fruitless gatherings simply to enjoy wearing such a thing..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Well I'm glad you're enjoying it Kay!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | As they draw nearer, the atmosphere becomes more distinct. With club patrons gathered around the balconies and central entrance, pulsing lights, and a bass that seems to reverberate throughout -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- the entire Heart. Many races can be seen here, all clearly carefree and with no thought for expense spared on elaborate attire or entertainment

Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"See? Not overdressed at all!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I am curious Mariel Tanglao, have you ever been to an establishment like this before?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Not exactly like this. Where I come from, establishments like this tend to have more beaches. More like the exclusive clubs on Risa."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"It's more or less the same thing aside from the looks though! And people dress similarly for them too."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Ok, well the premise is pretty much the same. So I understand... come on, lets get inside and find ourselves an Orion"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Pauses at the entrance as a hulking Lupan (wearing a dickie bow of course) stands, arms folded, in their path
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Hello! May we go in?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Lupan stares the pair down for a seemingly eternal moment before cracking a huge grin. He grabs Kayleigh with two giants paws at her waist, hoisting her off the floor and spinning her around,-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- "Ms. Kayleigh! You finally let your hair down, haha! Well... almost, not quite with the hair... but what does that matter, such an insignificant tuft of fur haha!"
Kayleigh@crystyl groans, "Of course you had to be working today..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Hey what are y- wait, you two know each other?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The Lupan sets Kay back down and turns to Mariel, "Are you kidding me?! who /doesn't/ know this little heartbreaker, right?" he grins at Kay
Kayleigh@crystyl flushes deeply, "How many times Growler, just because you keep designating me a heartbreaker does not add any further proof to your whimsical theory"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Growler, "Does that mean your going to scratch behind my ears?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks between the two curiously, "And what whimsical theory is that?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It does not" she steps around him and heads inside
Kayleigh@crystyl seems to suddenly be able to walk a lot faster even in these heels...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows as quickly as she can behind Kayleigh, "You are popular around here aren't you..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Growler grins and leans in to Mariel, "She likes to play games, that one! Stole this old dogs heart the moment she arrived at the Heart. But you're the first friend she's brought along with her, -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- so I see no shame in admitting defeat on this occassion!" he bows his head, letting her through
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris grins back as she steps through, "I'll considered myself honoured then!"
Kayleigh@crystyl turns to Mar once they get inside, "Frequency breeds familiarity. Since i spend considerable time in the district, it is inevitable that others who do the same - like Growler - come to recognize me"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Have you actually been inside here before, or just meet him out by the door?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It would be negligent of my studies if I did not thoroughly explore every aspect of this observational exercise..." she almost confesses, continuing inside
Kayleigh@crystyl:"And if you are wondering why they call him Growler..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"He...growls a lot?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Growler can be heard in the distance behind them - even over the intense music - shouting at unworthy wannabe entrants, followed by a rumbling growl the feels like it shakes the girls to their -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- bones
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Yup, that answers the question..."
Kayleigh@crystyl leans in to speak with Mar over the music, "We should first obtain beverages, this will allow us to observe the larger floor area while seeming to scout for a place to dance
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Good thinking!" she adds with a smirk, "You do know this place well..."
Kayleigh@crystyl doubletakes at the added comment and groans to herself, heading to the bar
Kayleigh@crystyl somehow manages to order two drinks with nothing more than a wave of her hand, in spite of the crowd around the bar
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows along, smiling at the sight, "Let me guess, a regular here too?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I have been before" she turns, presenting a fourescent drink to Mar and holding one herself
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Now we can blend in to the crowd and scout for the Orion
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Thanks. Uh...what is this?" she asks as she looks at the drink
Kayleigh@crystyl looks at her own, "I... am uncertain. But it is what I get presented whenever I try to flag the bartender down to ask for something..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris takes a cautious sip of the drink to see if she recognizes it...
Kayleigh@crystyl | It is unfamiliar, but close enough to distinguish as a form of alcoholic beverage
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Hmm...it's definitely alcohol. Not sure exactly what type, though."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"This may not be synthahol, so perhaps best to consider a prop more than anything right now. We need to find that Orion still"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Right. Orion. Let's see, now..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks around to see if she can spot the Orion
Kayleigh@crystyl | There is no shortage of Orions in the club, making it difficult to spot the one in question
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:rolls 29 (1-100
Kayleigh@crystyl:rolls 6 (1-100
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I see her! There, across the dance floors between two male Orions." She points her out to Kayleigh
Kayleigh@crystyl cranes her neck and nods, "Well, she appears to be enjoying herself at least. Let's get a bit closer, make sure we don't lose her in the crowd"
Kayleigh@crystyl & Mariel don't get more than a step before both feel a sudden jolt to their exposed upper arms, accompanied by the short sharp hiss of a hypo. Followed by blackness...
—
Kayleigh@crystyl | The pair awaken some time later to find themselves kneeling and bound
Kayleigh@crystyl | The floor is cold and metallic, and there is a recognizable thrum of a warp drive, so it is easy to deduce they are on a ship
Kayleigh@crystyl | Looking around and blinking the world back into focus, they can see they seem to be in the middle of an unfamiliar bridge, and T'Mer is also bound beside them
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris sets her gaze on T'Mer, "What happened...you're here too?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I don't know. I was monitoring the district cameras and then... I think I blacked out?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It would seem we have been taken captive"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"We were spying on the Orion...they must've managed to trace us all the way back to T'Mer too!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks around some more for any indication of other people, "Who are these people..."
Kayleigh@crystyl looks around more as well, "Though we are clearly on a ship, I am unfamiliar with this design"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Mar does spot a couple of uniformed Orions working nearby
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I see some Orions. Do you recognize the uniform, Kay?"
Kayleigh@crystyl shakes her head, "I do not"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The are interrupted by someone chuckling behind them. A female voice speaks, "Oh my, perhaps we should put them out of their misery already..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris tries to see who is behind them
Kayleigh@crystyl | They are unable to turn themselves enough to see
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "You will regret this, whoever you are! I am with CSD and these two are Starfleet officers!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Female voice: "Please. You are a glorified mall cop, and these two are just cadets in over their heads"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"We're still members of Starfleet! And we protect our own, others'll come looking for us in no time!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Female voice: "You are on downtime and not due back to class for at least another 48 hours"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Don't worry you two. As my deputies I promise I will do all I can to make sure nothing happens to you"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Whilst I appreciate the sentiment T'Mer, it might hold more value were you not in the exact same predicament as us"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The female behind them laughs again, "Oh but aren't you three just precious"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to T'Mer, "Will someone notice you're missing?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer nods: "Of course! Well, eventually... I think..."
Kayleigh@crystyl eyerolls
Kayleigh@crystyl | Another female voice can be heard talking with the one behind them, "Maybe it is time to put them out of their misery..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Great..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Female 1: "Oh come on now, they /did/ interrupt my fun time!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Female 2: "True. But..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Female 1 sighs, "Fine, you're no fun!" she can be heard rising from a seat - presumably a command station from it's relative position - and stepping towards them
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris tries to get a look at her now
Kayleigh@crystyl | A steady and confident stride of footsteps closes in from behind the trio, stepping around in front of them where their lowered gazes are met by shiny leather boots leading up long legs clad in -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- grey and black pants and increasingly sharpened adornments. Up a black sleeveless tunic topped with high pointed metallic shoulders, to a smiling green skinned face of an older Orion female capped-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- with a high pointed crown. The Orion smiles down at them with a face viewers would recognize as Tabadi Lorri...
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Finally, we get to see you. Don't have to be all melodramatic about revealing yourselves you know..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri laughs, "Well since you're meddling denied me my fun time, I have to make up for it somehow don't I!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri kneels in front of them, "Exactly why have you three been stalking me all day anyway...?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You've been up to no good in the Heart! Buying large weapons shipments and all that."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri: "Is that so?" she cradles Mar's cheek with one hand, long sharpened nails just barely touching the skin as she does to hold Mar's gaze, "You know Starfleet, spying on allies is not a -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- very nice thing to do"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You're not an ally, you're a...spy pretending to be an ally! ...right?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri stands and laughs, "Is that what you think?" looking to T'Mer, "I suppose this is your fantasizing again. What nonsense have you been putting in these young girls' heads?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Don't play coy with me! Your activity is clearly suspicious and today my deputies found the proof!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri: "Of what...? Securing weapons from a certified Coalition vendor?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer stammers and looks away
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris starts looking around the bridge again, as if seeing it for the first time
Kayleigh@crystyl sees the familiar change in her friend, "Mariel?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I see her crew, in the middle of a battle. Or at least Orions wearing the same uniform. She's not in command. It's another Orion female. They're fighting ships they're calling Colonial Fleet -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- ships. There's Klingons too...who are helping them destroy the Colonial ships."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks up to Lorri, "If you say you're our allies, why were you fighting our other allies?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri folds her arms as she listens, "So you are a Seer, interesting. But as you saw, /I/ was not fighting them, that was my predecessor Tabadi Mysti. You should also get your facts straight; the-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- OSN and KDF were always allies of Starfleet. The Colonial Fleet however was once considered an enemy"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Tabadi Mysti? As in...the mother of Commander Lendaria from the Valley Forge?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri tilts her head, "You are very well informed for a cadet. A little too well informed if you ask me... maybe there is a spy in this room after all"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer looks at Mariel, "But she is new, there is no evidence to suggest she is up to no good. Unlike you and the pink haired one who are always loitering around the district"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri eyerolls, "How many times Iconian; frequent visits to a shopping district are /not/ suspicious behaviour!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I read up on Commander Lendaria! She's an inspiration for a lot of science cadets!" She glances to Kayleigh. "Is it true what she says about the Colonial Fleet being an enemy?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I am not that familiar with events prior to the current standing of the Coalition"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri sighs and waves over a couple of her officers. They help the trio to their feet and release their bindings
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri; "Show them"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks around to see what they're being shown
Kayleigh@crystyl | Her officers work away and the central round table comes to life with an array of data on the holodisplay, all detailing the history of the OSN and Colonial Fleet as well as Starfleet involvement-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- in it all
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri: "I apologize for the way you were brought here, but you were acting very suspiciously and it was the cleanest way to get you out of there without causing any panic or disruption. Not like -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- how you two chased the Iconian across the district before" she smirks
Kayleigh@crystyl circles around the table, studying the data on display
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows, studying the data too, "I...think this lines up with everything else I know." She looks to the other two. "But I am pretty new around here."
Kayleigh@crystyl nods, "Whilst such things can be fabricated, I find it unlikely that they would be either willing or even able to go to such lengths in such a short amount of time purely for our sakes. What little-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- I do know is consistent with what is recorded here"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's what I thought. Why trick us if they're either going to kill us or let us go. And if they let us go we'll figure out if it's a trick soon enough anyways."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri: "So we can now drop this whole alleged-spy business...?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I suppose so..." she looks to T'Mer for confirmation
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer folds her arms defiantly, "I still think it is suspicious how you think you can justify spending so much time in that one district of the Heart..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri eyerolls, circling around and draping an arm around Kayleigh's shoulder, "Well, as my pink-haired friend here can no doubt attest; Not everyone lives on such a utilitarian lifestyle, and -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- for those of who appreciate the finer things in life - as this one clearly does!" leaning in, "And you must tell me where you got that dress of yours later", continuing, "there is no better use of-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- time than discovering new treasures, which means regularly visiting areas like your shopping district!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I don't know... this all sounds so... alien to me..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris chuckles, "I imagine it would be!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"T'Mer, remember earlier how we mistook your actions for being suspicious. Is it feasible that perhaps you have made the same mistake about this Orion...?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "What? No! I... well, maybe...?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"And you thought Kayleigh here was a potential suspect too..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "What do you mean /thought/?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Hey!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri laughs
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris giggles a little as well
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Look T'Mer, things being 'alien' as you put it are to be expected in a place like the Heart. Learning about other cultures is part of why we are all here, so we can better understand other peoples'-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- ways. And ultimately avoid confusion like we have all been the victim of today..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri pats her on the shoulder, "Sounds like a perfect quote of the Starfleet playbook. How very Vulcan of you!"
Kayleigh@crystyl perks a brow, "I take that as a complement, though it is quite unneccessary"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to Lorri, "So if you were just shopping and having fun...what was the weapons deal for?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri: "The OSN is still a very young organization. Yet we already protect multiple colonies, including considerable efforts alongside the Colonial Fleet and the Coalition resettlement -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- programme. Our resources are finite, and so we often have to buy in upgraded technology because we do not have the resources to develop it ourselves. At least not in the volumes we require to -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- sustain our growing numbers"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "So it was just conveniently getting some supplies while you were shopping for other things too?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri: "You got it! I needed to get some new supplies from Dum, but I was hardly about to waste a visit to the shopping district!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is very much in an Orion's nature to lead an embellished lifestyle. Especially a High Orion at that"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri smiles: "Very good. And apparently it is also in a Vulcan's nature too!" she winks and elbow nudges Kay
Kayleigh@crystyl groans, "Vulcans are well known to have a strong appreciation for the aesthetic"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris grins, "Do you know more about the cultural origins of the dress, then? Kay said she thinks it's an Orion design."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri looks Kay up and down, "I can definitely see the taste of home in it, but it is quite unique as well"
Kayleigh@crystyl eyerolls, "Is this really the time and place for such a discussion...?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You were the one who said you were interested in the cultural aspect! What better time than when you're wearing it?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"True. But with all that has occurred today it just seems... insignificant"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I mean, we're not exactly doing anything super urgent right now, since no one turned out to be a spy!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri: "It would seem you girls have had quite the misadventure today. Please, remain here on the Thana as my guests! We will drink and we will share stories and we will laugh"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I will not laugh"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri smirks, "Is that a challenge...?"
Kayleigh@crystyl huffs, "It is not"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris grins, "Now I kind of want to make it a challenge..."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"You will find it a fruitless endeavour" she turns to Lorri, "Before anything though, we owe you an apology" bowing her head, "Please forgive our misunderstanding, Tabadi"
Kayleigh@crystyl puts a hand to the back of T'Mer's head to force her into an apologetic bow as well. Vulcan strength still comes in handy at times
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris quickly joins the bow before Kayleigh forces her too
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri smiles and bows her head in kind, "As long as you have all learned a solid lesson from this about cultural misunderstanding and the danger of jumping to conclusions... I graciously accept -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- your apology" she looks up with a smirk, "Under the condition that you share at least one bottle of Orion wine with me before you all go!"
Kayleigh@crystyl straightens and releases T'Mer, who seems more confused by the gesture than anything, "I have no objection, if it is your wish"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "Sounds good to me too!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Lorri claps her hands together, "Excellent!" snapping her fingers and summoning more of her officers. This time the Orion girls come and much more tenderly link arms with each of the trio, all -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- wearing pleasant and inviting smiles, and escort them off the bridge while Lorri walks alongside them
—
Kayleigh@crystyl | A few days later, Mariel is called to the Annex Commendant's office after her classes for the day. She finds Kayleigh waiting outside
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to Kayleigh as she arrives, "Kay! You're here too?"
Kayleigh@crystyl nods, "Evidently"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Any idea what this is about?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I was not given any specifics. I take it from your tone that you are equally in the dark?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Yeah. But if it's just the two of us...you don't think it has to do with the whole security thing with T'Mer?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"That would seem likely"
Kayleigh@crystyl | A yeoman sat at a nearby desk looks over, "The Commandant is ready for you now, Cadets. Please go on inside"
Kayleigh@crystyl glances to the yeoman and nods, heading in
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows Kayleigh in, looking around nervously
Kayleigh@crystyl stands at attention
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris stands at attention
Kayleigh@crystyl approaches the desk and snaps to attention
Kayleigh@crystyl | Commodore Becket - a middle aged Human sits behind the desk, reading from a PADD. As typical for an annex CO, he pays no attention to the two rigid cadets at first despite having already -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- signalled to his yeoman that he was ready for them. He leaves them hanging just long enough to put them on edge before speaking without looking up, "Disturbing the peace. Assaulting an undercover -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- CSD operative. Soliciting non-standard munitions. Disrupting allied operations. Imposing on a Tabadi of the OSN Leadership Circle. And soliciting sexual favours from a Ferengi arms dealer..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket sets his PADD down and looks between the two, "This would make quite the colourful entry on your personnel records, Cadets"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Sir, I must contest that final charge."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "Fortunately for the two of you, testimony from others involved and third party witnesses do not paint your actions with such a colourful context" he checks his PADD again
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "Bravery and initiative, steadfast vigilance in the pursuit of justice and the - albeit ill conceived - ideal of protecting Coalition interests and civilian wellbeing"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "That's what we were intending, sir."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket looks back up and smiles, "You can imagine my surprise when I receiving such glowing reports of my Cadets, especially when they were off duty at the time" he leans back, waving a hand, "At-
Kayleigh@crystyl:- ease ladies"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Thank you, Sir"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris relaxes her stance, "Yes, thank you for understanding, sir. And apologies if we caused any trouble in the process..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "So that I understand completely, there seems to have been what some might call a comedy of errors that day. I would like to have your input on what played out"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Well, it started when I ran into Kayleigh while exploring. We went for a snack in the cafe and that's when we spotted T'Mer lurking around, acting all suspicious. We, uhh...came to the conclusion -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- that she was a spy pretending to be an Iconian to have high levels of access to the Sphere systems."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket chuckles, "Ah the active imagination of youth"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"In fairness, Commodore; T'Mer's conduct was highly suspicious"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "Yet the two of you opted to take matters into your own hands rather than report your suspicions to a senior officer. Why exactly?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"We were going to, sir. We just wanted to have more information than an Iconian standing around and looking out of place. It's suspicious, but not exactly illegal. So we kept watching, and then -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- T'Mer started closing in on the Orion, Tabadi Lorri. We decided there wasn't time to report it and we had to act before she did something."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "I see. And this led to the two of you chasing T'Mer across the shopping district?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Well we just tried to stop her. And then she ran, which made her look more guilty, so..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "Fortunately a certain elderly fruit vendor seemed to agree and only lodged a complaint against the CSD, as well as a bill for a basket of... 'projectile vegetables'...?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks to Kayleigh...
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Ah... I must take ownership of that last part Sir. Though it was only one vegetable..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket pinches the bridge of his nose, "I don't want to know any more on that. You can pay recompense for that at your own discretion Cadet. So how did this pursuit of yours end up with the two -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- of you attending an Orion-" he checks his PADD again, "-... 'entertainment' event at a high end club?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"We confronted T'Mer and she told us that she was with CSD and following Lorri because she was a suspect. As was Cadet Kayleigh, apparently, but not the primary one."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket looks to Kayleigh
Kayleigh@crystyl sighs, "It seems that T'Mer had no concept of retail therapy and viewed any high frequency visitation of the district as suspect activity"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket smirks a little, "Retail therapy you say. I'll have to keep that in mind" turning to Mar, "Please, continue"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"T'Mer was annoyed that we ruined her operation, so we offered to help her. And since she's CSD, we didn't have any reason to doubt that her suspect wasn't a real one this time. We followed Lorri -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - into Dum's weapon shop at first, where Kayleigh overheard her ordering weapons. Which only made her more suspicious."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"And to clarify, T'Mer presented us with a very well constructed case incriminating the Tabadi"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "Yes, it is clear you two aren't the only ones with active imaginations. T'Mer's analysis - though over zealous - was incredibly detailed and concise"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "And logical enough to appeal to Kayleigh, too."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"We also witnessed an agreement being made between the Tabadi and Dum, which when we relayed to T'Mer was deemed sufficient evidence to prosecute. The Tabadi had already entered the club by this -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- point and so we were directed to pursue and continue surveillance inside"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "And I understand that is where the Tabadi's own personal guard - the Ghosts - apprehended you both"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"That's right. They knocked us out with some...sedatives in hyposprays, I believe. And they got T'Mer too."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket leans back and thinks a moment, "This has been quite the little adventure for you both it would seem. I would never expect to see such conduct from second year cadets"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"We were just...doing what we thought was necessary to protect the Heart, sir."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket raises a hand to the protest, "I would however expect this more experienced officers who understand the nuances of balancing 'following the rules' with 'doing what is right'" he smiles
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "I understand, sir. We'll be sure to keep that in mind going forward."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "You were fortunate on this occassion not to have caused yourselves any real trouble. And whilst I want you to know that I do value and respect your conduct, you must remain mindful of -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- your own inexperience when making decisions"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Yes Sir"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Yes sir."
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket: "As such, this will not by reflected in your personnel files. But in order to make sure you take this lesson to heart, I am assigning you both special duties"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Sir?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket taps his intercom, "Send her in"
Kayleigh@crystyl | The door opens to allow another visitor into the office
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris looks over to see who it is
Kayleigh@crystyl turns curiously as well
Kayleigh@crystyl | Standing in the doorway is the unmistakeable tall slender form of... T'Mer. Only now she is wearing a cadet uniform with a 1st year pip
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"T'Mer! You're...in a cadet uniform!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer smiles and waves before quickly correcting herself to salute Becket, "Cadet T'Mer reporting for duty!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"T'Mer this is... unexpected"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket grins, "Following recent events, I had a long discussion with the CSD officer in charge of T'Mer's district. We agreed that the Academy presented a more fruitful option to support her -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- continued development rather than her simply settling for duty looking after a small shopping district when she is clearly capable of so much more. Therefore, you are both assigned as T'Mer's -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- mentors. I expect you to take her under your proverbial wing and help guide her through education at the Academy. I believe success in this assignment will more than adequately demonstrate your -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- capacity to conduct yourselves as we have discussed"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles and nods, "We'll do everything we can to guide her along, sir."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"You can count on us Commodore"
Kayleigh@crystyl | Becket smiles, "Glad to hear it. Now, you three run along. And I look forward to hearing more good things about you in the future"
Kayleigh@crystyl salutes
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris salutes
Kayleigh@crystyl snaps a salute to the Commodore before turning and heading out
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows Kayleigh out, looking to T'Mer as they exit, "Welcome to Starfleet, T'Mer!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Thank you Cadet Tanglao! Apparently I am the first Iconian to officially join your ranks, so there has been a lot of attention over me suddenly with this!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Considering that war with your people is still in recent memory for many in Starfleet - albeit the evolved Iconians - but still, the name alone does not bear distinction for them"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "Hopefully you're setting an example for the rest of your people! And I think this is a good choice for you personally too. Remember when we were talking about your education and all?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer nods, "Yes, and I think that was the reason I was chosen for this"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It would seem that your superiors in the CSD agreed that your potential outstrips your former role"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"And this way you can learn alongside us, instead of just relying on your Iconian education and all!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Yes, it is my understanding that Starfleet teaches much more than scientific acumen and technical skills. This was the main reason for my decision to accept this transfer, since our -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- mission the other day I have come to realize that there is a lot more value on these other elements than my own people typically give credit to"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris smiles, "Hopefully you won't be spying on any other shoppers in the future!" She chuckles
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "That is no longer my duty!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Oh yes, I forgot to ask! What're you choosing to specialize in?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Furthermore, you are also now our responsibility. So please, before you act on any impulses do consult with us first"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Yes, that too."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "From my background, I have initially been assigned to Operations with view to eventually focusing on Security. Though apparently I do not have to commit to that selection and may change -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- it later on?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris walks towards the nearest lounge as she replies, "Yes, Starfleet is quite fluid with department mobility. There have been people who've jumped between some very different jobs!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer seemed surprised, "Really? I had no idea it was such an acrobatic endeavour. I might have to train up before I attempt such a feat, though we are not built for such physical versatility as -
Kayleigh@crystyl - you are..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"I don't mean a physical jump..." she sighs. "I'm going to have to explain figures of speech to both of you now, aren't I..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer gives a puzzled look to Kayleigh
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Humans are especially prone to metaphoric dialogue. I am afraid it is something we will both have to learn to live with..."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer studies Mariel, "How curious. I have a lot learn, clearly!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Hey, at least you don't have to deal with a Tamarian!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Do they use this method of communication even more than you?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"It's...not quite the same. Theirs is less metaphor and more, well, references to cultural stuff. And they use it for /everything/."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is highly inefficient as I understand. Fortunately, universal translators are just about able to keep up with them these days"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "So I couldn't help but notice, we appear to be heading somewhere?"
Kayleigh@crystyl nods, "It is something of a class tradition to gather in one of the lounges every day after lessons have finished. Something else that we are both obliged to adapt to"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I see. What is the purpose of this gathering?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"It's a fun tradition! You get to talk with other people! You...like socializing, right T'Mer?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I have not had much practice with it, though I have observed many odd social customs at the shopping district. It will be interesting to participate myself"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"You'll understand it better if you participate! Nothing like firsthand learning. And Starfleet is always very accepting, so if you make a mistake, you probably won't get into much trouble."
Kayleigh@crystyl waves her along, "Come, you will see for yourself. Our classes here at the annex are among the most diverse in Starfleet so you have nothing to fear"
Kayleigh@crystyl steps into the lounge, heading for her usual table
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris follows over, taking a seat at the table. T'Mer visibly draws glances from the other cadets as she enters
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer senses this and grows more self-conscious, sitting nervously
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Just relax T'Mer. They are merely curious about you. Many have never seen an Iconian before, and those who have - never in a Starfleet uniform. But that is all it is; curiosity"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | As they sit down, a young human male in a third year science cadet uniform steps over to them, "Hi. You're the first Iconian cadet, aren't you?"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer looks up and nods, "Yes, I am Cadet T'Mer"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | The third-year cadet offers his his hand, "Nice to meet you, T'Mer! I'm Cadet Caleb Gibson."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer holds her hand out in a mirrored fashion, not actually taking his, "Hello Cadet Caleb Gibson, it is nice to meet you as well"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris giggles, "You're supposed to grab and shake it! It's...another human thing."
Kayleigh@crystyl | reaches overe and joins T'Mer's hand to Calebs, "Like this. It is a customary greeting of mutual friendship called shaking hands"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer smiles, "I see, how charming!" and starts vigorously shaking his hand
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Caleb chuckles at the awkwardness, "I thought it was only fitting that I come over and welcome you, T'Mer."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Is that your role here then? To greet and welcome new cadets?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Caleb laughs, "No, no, I'm not some official new cadet greeter or something."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Then... why did you feel obliged to come and do so?"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Also, you can probably stop shaking his hand now... Gibson, why don't you sit before you become as much a spectacle as T'Mer is"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Caleb: "Yes, you probably should." He says with another chuckle and takes a seat. "You see, my great-grandfather was the first person in the Federation to discover your people's homeworld and -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - probably the first in recent galactic history too."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer : "Really? That sounds very impressive!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I was not aware you had such a significant ancestry"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Caleb nods, "Captain Donald Varley of the USS Yamato. I don't like to advertise it- don't want people thinking I got here just because of my family. Unfortunately he and his crew met their end -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris - on that mission, but not before he was able to pass the coordinates of Iconia on to the Federation."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I am sorry your familiy suffered in a manner associated with my people..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Caleb: "It's not your fault. You weren't personally involved, and I don't think your people intended it either. Our ships weren't ready for your systems at the time."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"Exactly, and you really don't want to get into the habit of apologizing for every experience someone has had with your people. Remember that war I told you about, if you do you'll end up -
Kayleigh@crystyl:- apologizing to everyone you meet"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer nods: "I understand, thank you! I will try to never apologize for anything again!"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"That's not what I-..." she sighs, "One step at a time..."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris chuckles, "We'll get you there eventually T'Mer!"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "I... realize I still have a lot to learn. I thank you both for aiding me" she bows her head the same way Kay made her do for Lorri
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"Don't worry. Like we said, there's people from all different cultures here as Starfleet cadets. We're all in this and learning together."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer nods and looks to Caleb, "So Cadet Caleb Gibson, if your purpose is not to welcome new cadets, what do you do here?"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris | Caleb: "You can just call me Caleb, or Cadet Gibson when we're on duty. And I'm studying archaeology. Started out in computer science, but switched once I got here. The skills I learned from -
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:- my time in computer sciences comes in really handy when the archaeology is working with intact technological systems like this Sphere."
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"See, this is what I meant by Starfleet being very fluid with switching your career."
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer: "Yes, I see! I would not have imagined such a crossover but circumstances do seem to favour your decision"
Kayleigh@crystyl:"I believe many Cadets at least consider such changes during their academy time, and of those a high number will make at least one move I am certain"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris nods, "I'm still working on such a decision myself, too. As Kay's well aware."
Kayleigh@crystyl nods, "And in truth, whilst I am not actively seeking alternatives I am keeping myself open to exploring possibilities"
Kayleigh@crystyl | T'Mer looks around the table, "Wow I see what you mean... it's like everyone is thinking about changing!"
Mariel Tanglao@anncaris:"It's not easy to know what we want to do at such a young age! Some people know exactly what they want, but most people take a bit of experimenting to get there."
Kayleigh@crystyl:"It is only logical to remain open to the possibility of change"
