Safe harbour doesn't always mean R&R, especially for the crew of the Valley Forge. While the ship is stranded in drydock at the mercy of the Colonial Fleet engineers, the crew find themselves entangled in a web of local politics that threatens their current mission as much as the security of things back home...
View Act VI - Devidians
Trenick@annpc#5570 | The away team gathers in the transporter room, with Rianni already waiting inside as Kazra and Trenick arrive. Trenick@annpc#5570 | Katie: "Commander, are you sure this is the place Mana wants you to go?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Kazra nods, "What's wrong? Is no one there?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Katie: "No, there's a number of Arshai lifesigns, but I'm also picking up triolic waves nearby." Trenick@annpc#5570 | Kazra: "Are they camped close enough for exposure?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Katie: "No, but these energy readings don't show up anywhere else on the planet." Rianni@crystyll: "Triolic waves?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "It's a very rare energy type, not used by many known species due to being harmful to living tissue after prolonged exposure. But effects of brief exposure are usually negligible." Rianni@crystyll: "Could it be from something these Arshai are doing then?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Kazra: "I doubt it. From my readings, the Haxash live a very simple lifestyle. They're not the sort to play with dangerous energy. But maybe they're camped near it for a reason." Trenick@annpc#5570 | Kazra: "I guess we'll have to go and find out." Rianni@crystyll: "Ready on your order, Commander!" she chirps eagerly Trenick@annpc#5570 | Kazra smiles and steps onto the transporter pad, Trenick following behind her. Trenick@annpc#5570 | She looks to Katie as they are all assembled on the pad, "Energize." Trenick@annpc#5570 | The away team dematerializes into the transporter beams... Trenick@annpc#5570: | ...and rematerialize on the picturesque surface of the New World. The central city of Nim-i-Rune is nowhere to be seen and they appear to be on the edge of a meadow. Trenick@annpc#5570: | Behind them, a brilliant aqua-blue sea or lake glimmers in the light of the overly large sun, and in front of them they can see a vast array of yurt-like buildings stretching out into the distance - Trenick@annpc#5570: - and stopping just short of an ominous looking forest. Life buzzes around them- literally, as a dragonfly-like insect the length of Rianni's arm swoops overhead. Rianni@crystyll: looks around in awe, grinning inanely, "This never gets old..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "I see the tales of this planet's beauty was not exaggerated." Trenick@annpc#5570: opens his tricorder and scans curiously as a row of three rotund, hard-shelled insects the size of a football skittles through the tall grass in front of them. Trenick@annpc#5570: "The oxygen levels of the planet are very high. That explains how these insects are growing to such sizes." Rianni@crystyll: also scans, "I wonder if I can get any more info on those triolic waves now" Rianni@crystyll: "Nothing in the immediate area, Commander. Best I can tell, the source is deeper into the forest" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods, "Thank you Cadet. Well, I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a welcoming party or not. But since there isn't one, I guess we should head for the Arshai lifesigns" Trenick@annpc#5570: "They are gathered in the camp ahead of us." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods and begins a casual stroll towards the camp Trenick@annpc#5570: | They proceed towards the camp and before long, its inhabitants become visible. The Arshai are still mere specks at this distance, but it is easy to tell them apart from the four-legged animals - Trenick@annpc#5570: - among them in the camp. One type appears bigger than the Arshai and horned, like cattle of some kind. Another is large but sleek, and a third type is massive with features discernable from even - Trenick@annpc#5570: - this distance, and it looks very much elephant-like. Trenick@annpc#5570: | The group doesn't manage to get much closer when several of the sleeker creatures emerge from the camp and begin running at them. Rianni@crystyll: "Um... Commander...?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Don't try to run. These beasts are likely domesticated. We don't want to look like a threat." Rianni@crystyll: & Kazra both look to Trenick Rianni@crystyll: "So... we just stand here?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Yes. They are probably like the canines you keep as pets. Just...very large. And...used as mounts?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | As they come closer, the figures of Arshai riding atop them can be discerned from the beasts themselves... Rianni@crystyll: "I don't if the fact that they are mounted should be more reassuring, or less..." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Let's go with more, shall we" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Well, the creatures themselves are certainly domesticated. What the Arshai riding them intend...let's hope for the best." Trenick@annpc#5570: | The three soon find themselves surrounded by the creatures and their riders, who are all holding what appear to be double-ended spears. The creatures themselves bear a mix of feline and equine - Trenick@annpc#5570: - features, smaller than an Earth horse but bigger than an Earth big cat, and fanged, overall looking like prehistoric sabre-toothed cats. Trenick@annpc#5570: | The creatures snarl and sniff at them while the lead Arshai lowers his spear, "What business do these outlanders have with the Haxash?" Rianni@crystyll: does her best to remain still, and between the two meat shie-... officers. Two officers Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "We bring news of current affairs that threaten to impact all the Arshai tribes on this planet. And anything that has already been shared may be... coloured. We simply want to present you + Rianni@crystyll: + with all of the information we currently have, so you can act as you see fit - without misguidance" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Arshai Rider: "And how do the Haxash know that this outlander's information is not...coloured?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Short answer: you do not. But we are not asking you to do anything, only hear our words" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Arshai Rider: "This one can deliver the outlander's words to the Na-Shay, but Votegu cannot promise that the Na-Shay will heed these words, or pass the message to the Na-No." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra bows her head in appreciation, "Thank you, that is all we ask. Do you wish for us to present this information here, or in a less..." tentatively pokes a spearhead to one side, "...pointed + Rianni@crystyll: + place?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Here. Outlanders are not permitted to walk among the Haxash until a Trial of Trust is completed." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Will this...Trial of Trust also affect how much weight our words hold?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Yes." Rianni@crystyll: "Then couldn't we complete the trial first?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Yes. If the outlanders wish to." Rianni@crystyll: looks between the others, clearly eager to give it a try Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra considers Rianni a moment before looking back to Votegu, "What, exactly, would this trial entail?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Something to prove that the outlanders are a friend to the Haxash. Votegu can think of only one task now." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Oh? And what might that be?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "The Haxash do not usually stop here." He pauses and glances back to the ominous forest, "The Torei-Zode is called that for a reason. Many cycles ago, the Doshaie performed some - Trenick@annpc#5570: - unnatural experiments within, and now the forest is filled with demons." Rianni@crystyll: "The triolic waves we detected?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Votegu does not know what that is. Votegu has not been inside the Torei-Zode. Few Haxash have. But the usual route was disrupted by the floods of the season of change." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "The jaifai must reach the feeding ground. So the Haxash must move on. But the animals refuse to cross into the Torei-Zode." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "So you want us to investigate this Torei-Zode and remove the... demons?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Or find what is keeping the jaifai back, if not demons. So far, Haxash scouts have found nothing, but one ventured too deep and did not return." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Then if you can show us the way, we will make every effort to recover your lost scout. At the very least, find out what happened to them" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Follow. Votegu will show the way." Rianni@crystyll: tags along behind the others as the group follows Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu and his mount break off from the rest, leading them to skirt around the camp while the rest return. Rianni@crystyll: "I suppose a few loaner mounts to cover ground faster is out of the question?" she asks, almost idly to herself Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "The kefai will not go into the forest either, like the jaifai. Besides, a kefai will not let simply anyone ride." Rianni@crystyll: "Maybe when this is over, I can do a trial of trust with a jaifai" she chirps optimistically after not being completely shot down Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Few outsiders have had the privilege of riding or knowing Haxash beasts. The creatures of the clan are relics of the old home, saved along with the first colonists on the Ark." Rianni@crystyll: "Well, it would certainly be an honour if I were to find a way then" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu smiles and strokes the back of his mount, "Creatures of fur and hot blood do not live on this world yet. That is why these beasts are so treasured." Rianni@crystyll: "Do they need to evolve and adapt to the different climate still?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I think...this planet is still in a very early state of evolving life. It orbits a red giant, and must have only moved into the habitable zone of the sun recently." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Well, relatively recently, geologically speaking, that is." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Must be at least a few hundred million years already. But not long enough for any life resembling mammals to evolve." Rianni@crystyll: "Wow... I hadn't thought of that..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Gwi was talking about calculating the expansion of the sun and orbit of the planets, and he concluded this planet was too far from the star and too cold to harbour life for most of its - Trenick@annpc#5570: - history. Then, as the sun got bigger, as suns usually do, the planet grew warmer, until sometime two to three hundred million years or so ago, it became warm enough for life to flourish." Rianni@crystyll: "I really need to pay more attention in science classes..." Trenick@annpc#5570: chuckles, "You're not the first cadet I've heard that from." Rianni@crystyll: "Just as long as none of them wore blue strips, right?" she smiles Trenick@annpc#5570: grins, "It depends on the science class. I knew a few xenobiologists who get confused by astrophysics. And /everybody/ hated temporal mechanics." Rianni@crystyll: "Yes, I noticed a consistent ability of that subject to generate migraines..." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra smirks, "Maybe you should perform a study on it" Rianni@crystyll: giggles, "Imagine that headline in the Daystrom Quarterly: 'Cadet proves correlation between temporal mechanics and aneurysm's'!" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu's mount halts, sniffs the air and takes a step back, letting out a nervous purr. Rianni@crystyll: looks to the mounted creature as it pauses, "What's wrong, girl...? Boy...?" tilts her head slightly like trying to tell which it is Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "This is as far as the kefai will go. Beyond lies the Torei-Zode proper." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Then this is where we part ways. Is there anything further we need to know before we proceed?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Haxash scouts have reported with little about the forest that can be of use to the outlanders. Return with any information the Haxash can use, and the clan will be grateful." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "And be cautious." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Understood. Thank you Votegu, we will see you once we have news" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra leads the way as the group cautiously proceed Trenick@annpc#5570: takes out his tricorder as they begin to enter the forest, "The triolic waves are definitely coming from somewhere within." Trenick@annpc#5570: points to a south-easterly direction, "Somewhere that way." Rianni@crystyll: holds her phaser ready, with tricorder neatly poised in her offhand which supports it, maintining both at a poise Trenick@annpc#5570: | Her tricorder picks up the source of the triolic waves, but also detects another large lifesign nearby... Rianni@crystyll: (like SpecOps holding a pistol/maglight combo) Trenick@annpc#5570: keeps a hand near his phaser, mainly checking his tricorder. Rianni@crystyll: "Commander..." she points towards the source of the reading, "Reading one lifesign. A large lifesign..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "I see it too..." Trenick@annpc#5570: The underbrush rustles near where Rianni is pointing for a moment... Rianni@crystyll: steadies her aim, ready to react but remaining composed Trenick@annpc#5570: | All is quiet for a moment... Trenick@annpc#5570: | Then something large pounces out from the underbrush! Trenick@annpc#5570: FX | https://i.imgur.com/IRiNTct.jpg Rianni@crystyll: fires on a stun setting (because default...) Trenick@annpc#5570: | Fortunately, the stun setting is enough to bring the creature down, as it drops, twists and curls up into a large ball. Rianni@crystyll: relaxes her stance a little, "That doesn't look like something the Arshai would bring with them. Early indigenous evolution?" Trenick@annpc#5570: keeps his distance as he scans the creature, "A giant predatory arthropod." He gives Rianni a nod, "In line with the other fauna of this world." Rianni@crystyll: "If I'd known I was signing up for a prehistoric bug hunt I wouldn't have worn my best skirt..." Rianni@crystyll: "Could they have anything to do with the triolic readings?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "No, triolic waves would be just as harmful to them as any other organic life. And it's probably not what's making the Arshai's animals afraid, either." Trenick@annpc#5570: "I mean, it could put up a good fight against their mounts, but it's just a natural predator, nothing that would cause them to refuse to enter the forest entirely." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Then we should press on" she scans, trying to find signs of the Arshai scout Rianni@crystyll: "Commander Lendaria would love to get a live sample of something like this" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Maybe we can bring back something a little...smaller." Rianni@crystyll: suddenly snaps back to and looks quickly between the officers, ".../not/ that I'm suggesting we take it with us or anything. Just thinking" Trenick@annpc#5570: chuckles, "Definitely not that." Trenick@annpc#5570: | There is no sign of the missing Arshai scout, but the direction of the triolic waves is clear, and they continue proceeding towards it... Trenick@annpc#5570: | Every once in a while, strange, oversized insects buzz around or cross their path, but they don't get jumped by any more local predators. Rianni@crystyll: still remains vigilant, determined not to let her seniors down Trenick@annpc#5570: | As they go deeper and deeper into the southeast of the forest, they begin noticing a distinct decrease of life around them, and as they enter the depths of the forest where little light goes - Trenick@annpc#5570: - past the canopy, they notice a strange, blueish mist in the distance where trees seem shrivelled and died. Rianni@crystyll: "Ok, I'd put good latinum on that being something to do with these triolic waves Rianni@crystyll: " Trenick@annpc#5570: "That does correspond with where the readings are coming from..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | As they begin to near the dead trees and strange mist, Kazra reads an Arshai lifesign on her tricorder... Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra points this out to the team and picks up pace Trenick@annpc#5570: | They move past the dead trees and into the mist, reading the triolic waves now around them. Trenick@annpc#5570: "We'll be alright as long as we don't stay too long. Only extended exposure causes harm." Trenick@annpc#5570: | They pass through groves of dead trees, eventually coming upon a clearing which looks like a blackened crater... Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Arshai lifesign appears somewhere inside the crater. Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra looks for a safe way to try and reach the Arshai Trenick@annpc#5570: | The crater appears to be largely smoothed out over the years; the indentation is visible, but it's not perilous to climb. Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Well if they are down there, we'll have to go down too" she resigns, cautiously leading the way Trenick@annpc#5570: | The team climbs down into the crater, and to their surprise...sees a camp nearby. Not a large Haxash camp filled with tents and animals, but a single-person, high-tech tent with what appear to be - Trenick@annpc#5570: - research equipment and computers set up. In the centre is a figure wearing some sort of environment suit. Trenick@annpc#5570: "That's our lifesign. I don't think it's a Haxash scout..." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra approaches, trying to get their attention without startling them Rianni@crystyll: remains alert, keeping an eye on everyone Trenick@annpc#5570: | The figure doesn't seem to notice them, simply typing away at a computer. Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra calls out, "Excuse me...? Hello?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Yes, yes, I know you're there, I'm just in the middle of running some numbers. If you'll give me one more minute..." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra stands back, clearly a little perturbed by such an attitude. I mean, who would ever think of being so rude... Trenick@annpc#5570: | Almost exactly a minute later, the figure taps something on the computer dramatically and turns around, "Oh. These ones aren't Arshai. And without suits? Are you mad?!" Trenick@annpc#5570: "The triolic waves aren't harmful if we don't stay too long." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Ah. You're not here to help with my research, then." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "No, we're trying to find a lost Haxash scout" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "It's a big forest. What are the Haxash even doing here? Don't they usually avoid this place after the incident?" Rianni@crystyll: "They said something about crossing this region for their herds migration. I think..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Oh. Yes, yes, the season of change. Must be flooding the western plains, so they want to cut through the forest instead of routing all the way east." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra, "Yes, they said about the flooding. But the animals won't come near this region... they mentioned 'demons' though I suspect this is a perception of the triolic wave energy in this crater" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Yes. And no. I think." Trenick@annpc#5570: "What do you mean?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "There was an experiment here, long ago. You heard, yes? Haxash must have told you." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods: "Yes, they mentioned something about it" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "We used this place long ago to test experimental reactors. There was an incident. One started to leak triolic waves. We destroyed it, it only made things worse. So the Researcher's Guild - Trenick@annpc#5570: - shut the experiment down, quarantined the area. That's why the experiment was done out here. Remote, not going to harm the people." Trenick@annpc#5570: "And it shouldn't affect the Haxash or their animals either, if they keep to the west of the forest..." Rianni@crystyll: "So... if the experiment ended, how come you're still out here?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Exactly! Exactly. It's not the waves the animals are scared of. They don't have sensors. They probably don't even know it's here." Rianni@crystyll: "Well they clearly sense something. If not the triolic waves, then what?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | His helmet turns over to Rianni, "I'm here because I think the triolic radiation's attracted something. Or some things. Invisible to the naked eye, but they're here." Rianni@crystyll: "Some... things?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Look, the research points in my favour!" Trenick@annpc#5570: "We...do know of lifeforms who use triolic waves as an energy source. And one of the few capable of doing so exists in a different phase..." Rianni@crystyll: thinks a moment on this before going wide eyed, "Dividians! But... all the way out here?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Really? I didn't think you'd believe me!" Trenick@annpc#5570: "From what I've learned of the Devidians, they harness triolic waves to travel. I'm not sure how, and it may have to do with their unique state of existence, but they don't need ships, and barriers - Trenick@annpc#5570: - to us like space and time can apparently be bridged quite easily by them, if there's a source of triolic energy to tap into." Trenick@annpc#5570: grins, "It...borders between xenobiology and physics. And maybe even a little temporal mechanics." Rianni@crystyll: "Eugh..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "But it's just a theory. We can't confirm if there really are Devidians here; well we can, but we'd almost definitely need Kelly for that..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Fear not! The Researcher's Guild have been trying to detect and contact these beings for some time now!" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Well, it's mostly just me, but...I know what I'm doing!" Rianni@crystyll: "Contact them? You realize that even if you did manage to, they would most likely kill you on sight?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "The risks we take for science! Wait, they really do kill on sight?" Rianni@crystyll: sagenods Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Well, then maybe somebody much better armed and knowledgeable about these beings should go first!" His helmet turns over the three Starfleet personnel. "No?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "The Cadet may be being a little on the dramatic side, but they certainly aren't known for much more. From what Starfleet knows of them, they consider biological life on our plane of + Rianni@crystyll: + of existence as beneath them; like we might consider livestock" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "But if they're here...then why haven't they killed me? Or the Haxash?" Rianni@crystyll: "Maybe they have. There is a missing scout after all" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "But I've been here for at least ten rotations, and I'm fine. And there must be a whole camp of Haxash nearby." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "It is possible that their ability to interact with this plane is limited by the nature of the triolic energy in this area" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Tell you what. I'll turn my sensors to look for this missing scout. Maybe it's connected to my research after all." Trenick@annpc#5570: | The figure steps back over to his computer and begins to type rapidly, "Hm. Let's see..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | After a few minutes of typing, he exclaims, "I see it! Bioreadings indicative of Arshai chemical composition. Probably deceased. Wait...inside the old reactor building?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Sneaky nomad must've got past me when I was sleeping..." Rianni@crystyll: "Where is this building? Can we reach them?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | The figure points over to one end of the crater, where a small crevice can be seen amidst a number of rocks and boulders, "It's buried under there. I go in sometimes for my research." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "I can show you the way." Rianni@crystyll: looks to Kazra, "How are we for exposure time, Commander?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra checks her tricorder readings, "We are good for a few hours. Best not to waste time, lets move out" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Figure: "Follow me!" Trenick@annpc#5570: | The suited Arshai scientist leads them through the crater to the opening in the boulders... Trenick@annpc#5570 | It takes no small effort to make their way into the perilous abandoned facility... Trenick@annpc#5570: "So, you're an Arshai, but I've only ever known one other Arshai to use pronouns..." Trenick@annpc#5570 | Doshaie Scientist: "It saves time. I don't care less about being curt and rude. Manners are a waste of time if you ask me." Trenick@annpc#5570: "You have a name, yes?" Rianni@crystyll: "Does that mean we sound like we're being rude whenever we use pronouns in front of the Arshai?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Doshaie Scientist: "Yes, but most Arshai are used to it from offworlders. Just unfair if you ask me. Why do /we/ have to go to such lengths to speak our language properly..." Trenick@annpc#5570 chuckles, "Maybe because it's your language?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Doshaie Scientist: "And my name is Lanu-Doshaie Dos Foree'Shaie'Vaie Nos Du-Nai. Just use Lanu. You know how our names work." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Well it's nice to meet you Lanu. I'm Kazra, and this is Trenick & Rianni" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Lanu: "Let's hope our meeting brings my research somewhere. Your body should be just ahead..." Rianni@crystyll checks her tricorder Trenick@annpc#5570 | They emerge into an old, rusty room, but a generator in the centre appears to still be pulsing and functional. Rianni@crystyll: "That... doesn't look very 'abandoned' to me..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | In the middle of the room in front of the generator lies a dead Arshai, from the furs and leathers, likely the Haxash scout. Trenick@annpc#5570 | Lanu: "I've never been in this part of the facility before, but I know some of the old generators are still online. They make their own power, but they don't feed it anywhere anymore. Most - Trenick@annpc#5570: - just leak out as triolic waves and we can't stop it. We shut one down by force, it went boom and all the others started leaking too." Trenick@annpc#5570: "You haven't even made an effort to shut it down with any other means?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Lanu: "The triolic waves are contained in the forest, and the Guild thinks it's more of a risk to tamper with them." Rianni@crystyll: "Well if there really is a Dividian threat, then leaving them alone may be an even greater risk" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra stands from conducting a thorough scan of the body, "And it may well be exactly that, Cadet" she shows her readings to Lanu, "You see this? neural energy drain. Characteristic of Dividian + Rianni@crystyll: + ...'farming'" Trenick@annpc#5570 FX | There is a sudden blue flash, and two tall, slender figures suddenly appear beside the body... Trenick@annpc#5570 | https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/sto_gamepedia/f/f7/Visitor.png?version=08ee282b00939d70c3b087d534b98e80 Rianni@crystyll: "Devidians!" she draws her weapon, but stands ready Trenick@annpc#5570 draws his phaser as well. The two aliens advance, and Trenick gives Kazra a glance at whether they should open fire... Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods, "Defend yourselves" and fires Trenick@annpc#5570 opens fire as well at the nearest target. Trenick@annpc#5570 | The Devidians recoil under the fire, but continue to advance... Rianni@crystyll tweaks her phaser settings and fires as well Trenick@annpc#5570 increases the setting on his phaser a few settings above stun and fires again and his target collapses to the ground before fading out of view. Trenick@annpc#5570 | Rianni's target does the same as it is hit by her higher setting shot. Trenick@annpc#5570 | A few seconds later, two more Devidians flicker and appear...but then a strange, ethereal voice echos around them... Trenick@annpc#5570 | Voice: "Stop! Do...not...kill..." Trenick@annpc#5570 | The two Devidians halt in their steps. Rianni@crystyll stands, slightly taken aback, "Um... what?" looking to the officers of experience Trenick@annpc#5570 FX | A much larger Devidian, about 3 metres tall, appears in the centre of the room, holding a serpent-like creature in its grasp. Trenick@annpc#5570: | https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/sto_gamepedia/a/a4/Devidian_Phantasm.png?version=056581a0b1269bd97f59bf3f21647dd9 Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "What do you want, Dividian?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Devidian begins to shrink and glow, its form turning more humanoid, until out of the glow steps what seems to be an Arshai female clad in furs, holding a serpentine staff. Trenick@annpc#5570 | Devidian: "We...are not here to feed...on you." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Then why are you here?" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Devidian: "Let me...show you." Trenick@annpc#5570 | The Devidian points her serpent staff at the far wall of the room, and a glowing portal appears. Trenick@annpc#5570: "How can we trust you? Your people are known to prey on ours." Trenick@annpc#5570 | Devidian: "And we can. If we want. But we have not. Because it is not efficient feeding." Trenick@annpc#5570 glances to Kazra, "Is it saying we should trust it because it could kill us, but hasn't done so yet?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "I... think so?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Not...the best argument if you ask me. But it's your call, Commander." Rianni@crystyll: "Commander, if we are to trust it; I recommend someone stays here with Lanu. Strategically speaking, the Lieutenant and I are both the most expendable and most capable of defending ourselves" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I agree, Cadet. Someone needs to let the Valley Forge know, or failing all else, destroy the generator." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "And face the Captain when I report that I let you go swanning off into a Dividian portal? No, I'm sorry but you stay with Lanu. Trenick and I will proceed with the Dividian" Trenick@annpc#5570 nods, "I guess we're going in." Trenick@annpc#5570 | The Arshai-Devidian wordlessly turns and walks towards the portal. Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Like the lieutenant said; try to contact the ship and report on our situation. If we're not back in 10 minutes you are to leave the area with Lanu and head back to the ship, understood?" Rianni@crystyll gives a resigned sigh, "Understood Commander" Trenick@annpc#5570 | The Arshai-Devidian waits for them just outside the portal. Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra smiles softly, resting a hand on Rianni's shoulder, "Don't fret Rianni, you've got a long career ahead to take all the crazy risks you want. Just not today, ok hun" Rianni@crystyll smiles a little and nods Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra looks to Trenick before proceeding to the portal. Clearly she'd rather have Rianni's sharp trigger hand with them too, but she knows she has to be responsible Trenick@annpc#5570 lowers his phaser slightly as he follows Kazra over to the portal. Trenick@annpc#5570 | The Arshai-Devidian turns and heads into the portal as they get closer. Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra follows after a nervous gulp Trenick@annpc#5570 follows in after Kazra as well... Trenick@annpc#5570: | The two exit the portal into a dark cave. Trenick activates a light as the portal closes and they see the Arshai-Devidian still in front of them. Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Devidian simply waves its staff for them to follow. Kazra@crystyll: gives a slight shrug and tags along cautiously Trenick@annpc#5570: follows along, scanning as he goes, "According to the scans of these rocks, we're still on the New World." Trenick@annpc#5570: | They make their way out of the cave into a small, barren valley. Kazra@crystyll: "Just out of phase with our normal occupancy I would imagine" Trenick@annpc#5570: "No, this is...our phase. I don't think it's our time..." Kazra@crystyll: "Damn..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Commander, the tricorder picked up a chroniton spike as we stepped through the portal." Kazra@crystyll: "Time travelling, great... Keelah's going to kill me..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Arshai-Devidian stops and raises its staff, which begins to glow brightly. Trenick@annpc#5570: "What're you doing?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "Shielding...you..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "From your friends?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "From the Fallen." Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Devidian continues on, its staff glowing brightly. Kazra@crystyll: "I'm not sure I like the sounds of this..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | It soon leads them to a spot between a few rocks, where a ledge offers a view of the landscape beyond... Trenick@annpc#5570 FX | https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DKslVFUXcAAq-lv.jpg Kazra@crystyll: "Aah... the 'fallen'. Gotcha" Trenick@annpc#5570: | It is a blasted landscape overshadowed by ominous clouds. What is visibly the remains of a crashed station can be seen nearby, and off to the distance more wreckage which may be ships or stations, - Trenick@annpc#5570: - but it is difficult to discern. No life at all can be seen except for a swarm of insects moving across the valley below... Trenick@annpc#5570: ...except on closer examination, they're not insects. They're people, moving like a group of ants... Kazra@crystyll: squints trying to see better, "What exactly are we looking at here?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | They seem to be crawling all over the wreckage, taking it apart with their hands and minimal tools, working in sync. Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "Watch." Trenick@annpc#5570: "That's one of the Arshai watchtowers, Commander..." he checks his tricorder. "And these are Arshai and Orion lifesigns...among others." Kazra@crystyll: "If we went through a temporal displacement, and there are more than just Arshai lifesigns down there, I assume we are looking at the future as we know it?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I fear so..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | A few strange looking small craft fly around the station as well, appearing to transport away pieces being disassembled by the drone-like Arshai and others down in the valley. Trenick@annpc#5570: | As the swarm of people slowly take apart the station, the Devidian points with its staff to flashes of blue on the very edges of the swarm. Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "A better place to feed." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "We do not feed on you. We feed on the Fallen." Kazra@crystyll: "So why have you brought us here. If these are the source of your food, why are they a problem?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "You. You are the problem. You seek to stop the energy. Without the energy, we cannot come here. We cannot feed." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "We do not feed on you. You will stop us. But the Horde...will not miss a few people." Kazra@crystyll: "Wait, the Horde?! This... is the Horde?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "Yes. The Fallen. We feed on the Fallen, when the world is no more. No one to stop us. No one to care." Kazra@crystyll: "But we need to stop the energy so that others in our own time can feed" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "We must feed. We cannot let you stop the energy." Kazra@crystyll: "Not wanting to tempt fate here, but... if you simply wanted to stop us, why did not simply attack us before? Why bring us here and attempt this reasoning?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "We are not mindless. We attack the Arshai who come. And then you come. We attack you, and more will come and stop the energy. We must feed. So we show you we do not feed on you." Kazra@crystyll: "Is there some way we can isolate the triolic energy in our time so that it won't affect the local people, but without disrupting your feeding here?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "Stop the energy for a little. Yes. But you must make it flow again. We must feed, or we begin to feed on you." Kazra@crystyll: "How little are we talking about? What I mean is, how long in our time could we stop it for before it causes you a problem?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "As long as your people need. No more." Kazra@crystyll: "I believe that should be a workable compromise. From what we know, the Arshai don't intend to frequent this area" Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Arshai-Devidian gives a single curt nod, "We must go. Cannot shield forever. Then you will become Fallen too." Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Devidian turns and begins to head back the way they came, the glow on its staff beginning to dim. Kazra@crystyll: "I am curious. Are you naturally shielded from the awareness of the Fallen?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "The Fallen do not affect us. We are not like you. The Fallen do not come for us. And if we do not feed too much, they will not care." Trenick@annpc#5570: "Like a mosquito, sucking so little blood that it isn't even noticed." Kazra@crystyll: "So your natural state of being is beyond the Primevals realm of comprehension then?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "Primevals?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I don't think it knows that term..." Kazra@crystyll: "It is our name for the ancient beings which drive the Horde" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "The Fallen. We do not know." Kazra@crystyll: "I see..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | They soon reach the cave they came from, and the Devidian points the staff to the wall and the portal reappears. It waves for them to go in. Kazra@crystyll: "Thank you for reaching out to us. I know our peoples seldom get along, but I promise we will make every effort to sustain this for you, after you took the chance to reach out to us like this" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "We do what we must to feed. Go quickly. Shield is fading. Fallen will know soon." Kazra@crystyll: nods and heads back through the portal Trenick@annpc#5570: follows Kazra back in as well. Rianni@crystyll looks up from her perched seat as the portal opens, "Commander, Lieutenant! You're alright!" Trenick@annpc#5570 smiles, "Yes we are, Cadet. Didn't keep you waiting too long, I hope?" Rianni@crystyll: "I was just about to leap into action with a daring rescue. It was going to be quite the epic spectacle, I assure you" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I think the Commander might've been hoping for you to say you were about to head back to the ship...but luckily we didn't need a rescue," he grins. Rianni@crystyll giggles, "Well, I /did/ update the bridge on what was happening. And that daring rescue maaay have mostly involved me watching a squad of MACO's do all the work..." Rianni@crystyll: "But it still would have been epic and daring!" Trenick@annpc#5570 chuckles, "I'm sure it would have. Daring for the MACOs, at least." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra chuckles, ruffling Rianni's hair (who did she learn that from?!) "Thank you Rianni, I know you would have watched it all heroically" Rianni@crystyll slumps at the hair ruffling but smiles at the praise, "So... what did you see on the other side?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "I'm not sure. The future? /A/ future? It's hard to say." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "We... have a plan at least. We need to disable the triolic energy here long enough for the tribe to pass, but it has to be restored afterwards" Rianni@crystyll: "I sent the scan data to the ship too. They are studying the generators and trying to figure a way to safely disable them" Trenick@annpc#5570 | Lanu: "It'll take the Guild some time to figure out how to do anything with that experimental tech. But if you want them down temporarily...why shut them off?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "What are you suggesting?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Lanu: "Why, put a shield around the place, of course! Borrow an old ship deflector from the Shipwrights, configure it to block out the triolic waves. Turn it on, the Haxash pass through, then - Trenick@annpc#5570: - turn it off. Might be useful in case any of the generators go boom again too." Rianni@crystyll: "Huh... that simple" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Lanu: "Easier than figuring out how to turn these generators off and then back on again." Rianni@crystyll | Kazra ponders, "If a shield generator can be used to contain the energy, couldn't one be installed indefinitely?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Lanu: "It would, but I don't know how it would affect them," he thumb-points to the Arshai-Devidian. Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra turns to the Devidian, "Well? Would it cause a problem for you if we kept a shield containing this site to protect the world around it now?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Devidian: "If the energy is here...we should not be affected. We can use the energy to travel where we want to go." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra smiles, "Then I believe we have a plan! Lanu, can you organize the necessary hardware from the Shipwrights?" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Lanu nods, "I'll ask them for it through the Researcher's Guild. The Researchers will definitely allow it now that I have proof I was right about there being life attracted to the triolic waves." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Excellent! Then I suggest we leave here while exposure levels are sufficiently low, and report back to the tribe" Trenick@annpc#5570 looks to the dead Arshai scout, "Should we take the body with us?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "They may want it back, and we might want to show that we found something." Rianni@crystyll hops off her perch, "Here, I can help" moving to gently recover the body Trenick@annpc#5570: "Thank you, Cadet." He moves to help her carry the body as well. Trenick@annpc#5570 | They make their way out of the buried generator building and back out to the crater... Trenick@annpc#5570: | When cleared of the tight spaces of the abandoned building, they quicken their pace and hasten away from the crater and the groves of dead trees around it. Trenick@annpc#5570: | Soon, they put the crater and blueish mist behind them. Trenick@annpc#5570: lets go of the body for a moment to run a scan, "We're out of the exposure zone, and I'm detecting no visible physical repercussions." Rianni@crystyll: "Well that's a relief" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Might be best to run a full scrub once we're back on the ship, but we're all in good health for now." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods: "Once back on board I can easily make up some inoculations for us" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Let's get back to the Haxash camp for now." Rianni@crystyll: "Right, we've still to actually start our assignment here..." Trenick@annpc#5570: "About that..." Rianni@crystyll: "I hope they approve of our efforts" Rianni@crystyll: "Lieutenant?" Trenick@annpc#5570: "Commander, what we saw...does that mean Vora is right, or is it some kind of alternate future, something we can prevent?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra hesitates, "It... I don't know. All I can say for sure is that quantum mechanics have proven the multiverse theory, which is further confirmed by our knowledge of temporal activity stemming + Rianni@crystyll: + from the future. The temporal prime directive and such. So I have to assume that it is only one possible future, not a predestination" Rianni@crystyll: "So... Do we tell them about it? I mean, won't that possible future hinder the chances of our convincing them to stay?" Trenick@annpc#5570: nods, "It has to exist somewhere, for the Devidians to access it. But...it doesn't have to be ours." Trenick@annpc#5570: "And yes, that's what I was thinking too, Cadet." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods to Trenick's comment, "We do as promised and present the facts as we know them. All we can do is arm these people to make an informed decision, we are not here to manipulate them" Trenick@annpc#5570: nods again, "And if they choose to stay or leave, that's their choice." Trenick@annpc#5570: "It's their home, after all." Rianni@crystyll: "I suppose it is more about discouraging the aggressive move to retake their old home, than it is encouraging them to stay" Rianni@crystyll: "In terms of our wider spanning interests, I mean" Trenick@annpc#5570: "That makes sense." Trenick@annpc#5570: | As they near the camp, the shape of several mounts coming towards them can be seen in the distance, and soon they are met with Votegu and four other riders. Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "So...the scout is dead. As Votegu suspected. What happened?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "It was the aftermath of the Research Guilds incident out there. Latent... residue, from it was attracting beings from another plane of existence; your demons. They took your scouts life, + Rianni@crystyll: + not in malice if it helps - but by nature. The circle of life, as we think of it" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "So these demons are...predators?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "But we have agreed a truce of sorts with them which means they will not harm anyone else here. The Guild is going to install shields to contain the energy and make the area safe to pass" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu nods, "And that will allow the beasts to enter the forest?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Not in the strictest sense. They evolved to feed on the neural energy of beings like us. But they recognize our sentience and seek their sustenance elsewhere. That is the accord we have + Rianni@crystyll: + reached, and yes; with the energy contained the demons will no longer present here. The energy will also be contained so life may even begin to return to the dead areas surrounding the crater" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Good! There is little left in these parts for the jaifai to eat, and the clan must pass through the forest soon. While the animals will not yet make the crossing, the outlanders have - Trenick@annpc#5570: - brought back the missing scout, and that alone shows the outlanders are willing to help the Haxash." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Come into the camp, outlanders. The Trial of Trust is complete." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "It will take some time for the guild to make the area safe for passage, but they are working on it as quickly as they can for you" Rianni@crystyll: smiles at their small victory as they follow Votegu Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "The clan will know when the passage is safe. The animals will be different." Trenick@annpc#5570: | As they step into the camp, they find many Arshai and animals all around them. The animals continue about their business, but the Arshai give them curious glances as they pass by. Trenick@annpc#5570: | Getting a closer look at the cattle, they appear to be more like buffalo than cows, but with huge, downward swept horns. Trenick@annpc#5570: | https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/dragonage/images/4/46/Druffalo.PNG/revision/latest/top-crop/width/360/height/450?cb=20141217220230 Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu: "Do the outlanders still wish to meet with the Na-Shay?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods, "Yes, if it pleases. We still wish to present our information" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu dismounts and waves them to follow deeper into the camp, "This way." Trenick@annpc#5570: | As they approach the centre of the camp, they get a proper look at the massive, elephant-like creatures they saw from afar. They are huge, towering creatures with thunderous footsteps and most - Trenick@annpc#5570: - similar to the woolly mammoths of prehistoric Earth, but with two more tusks. Trenick@annpc#5570: | https://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/the-elder-scrolls-5-skyrim/8/8a/Mammoth.bmp?width=640 Rianni@crystyll: looks up in awe at the giant beasts Trenick@annpc#5570: "Truly magnificent creatures you have here." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu nods, "Yes. And nowhere else will these creatures be found, not with the loss of old Arsae." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu leads them to a larger round tent at the centre of the camp, "This is the Na-Shay's tent." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Thank you, Votegu" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Votegu nods and smiles, "The Na-Shay has been informed and ready. The outlanders may enter." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra returns the smile with a dip of her head and leads the way in Trenick@annpc#5570: | https://i.pinimg.com/originals/24/c6/df/24c6df3a1c4246ab270dba5095c55c24.jpg Trenick@annpc#5570: | As expected, the interior of the tent-dwelling is quite small, but surprisingly comfy-looking. The floor and sides are covered with colourful rugs, and though much of it looks very low tech, signs - Trenick@annpc#5570: - of technology can still be seen dotted around, from a small freezer to hyposprays and even a projector for a holoscreen. Trenick@annpc#5570: | A single Arshai is in the dwelling, sitting on the edge of the bed with a long robe from head to toe. Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "So these are the outlanders who have come to this one's clan." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra, "Yes we are, and thank you for agreeing to hear us" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "So what do these outlanders have to say, that the outlanders are willing to enter the Torei-Zode for?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "We bring news that the Colonial Fleet seeks a rapid mobilization to declare war on - and retake - the old Arshai homeworld" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "So that must be what the meeting Vora urged the Na-No to attend was. And has the Council passed this decision, then?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra shakes her head, "Not yet. The troubling reason we felt it necessary to bring you information directly, is that we have reason to believe that Vora is calling for this as a knee jerk reaction + Rianni@crystyll: + to a great threat she has seen closing across the stars. She doesn't simply intend to restore the old homeworld, but to vacate this one in the process" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "And go where? The old world is a ruin. This New World has so much life. This is the only place where the Haxash can have a life." Rianni@crystyll: "This is why her plan is ill-conceived and reckless. It only sees as far as moving back to the old world as a means of putting more distance between the Arshai and this threat" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "What is this threat, that scares even the Supreme Commander of the great Colonial Fleet?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "We know them only as the 'Horde', though we believe they are the vanguard of some primeval species who exert dominance through telepathic control" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "An enemy that cannot be fought with ships and weapons, then? This one can understand Vora's reaction. But the Haxash cannot, and will not, leave the New World." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Then you see why it is so important for you to be represented at the meeting" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "The Haxash will stay, even if Vora decides to abandon the New World. But this one supposes without the protection of the Fleet, the Haxash stand little chance against this threat. Even - Trenick@annpc#5570: - if ships are of little use against this foe, having some defense is better than none." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods, "Our Captain is encouraging Vora to remain as this world is naturally protected from outside detection. She is uniting the species of this region to stand against this threat together" Rianni@crystyll: "And even if it is deemed necessary to leave, there are more stable options to consider than waging a rushed conflict" Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Na-Shay nods, "This one will relay the importance of the decision to the Na-No, and advise that the Na-No attend this meeting to stop this decision." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra, "There is... something more you should be aware of..." Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "And that is?" Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra: "Whilst we by no means consider it a certainty, you have the right to know that during our trial of trust; the demons we encountered showed us the future... /a/ future, which they occupy + Rianni@crystyll: + here. And in it, the Horde had consumed this world and all life on it. The Arshai had fallen to it..." she clearly doesn't like presenting such a grim outlook Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "That is...troubling news indeed. Perhaps Vora is not entirely wrong, perhaps this enemy cannot be fought. A backup plan may be wise, like the Haxash's plan to cross the forest when the - Trenick@annpc#5570: - lowlands are flooded. But the Fleet needs to identify another world like this where the Haxash can flourish, not go after old ruins." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra nods, "And our colleagues are working with the other representatives to explore such alternatives. But know that we have every intention of halting this threat, and our Captain believes she + Rianni@crystyll: + the means to do so. Still... a more considered contingency plan would be fruitful, not a war that will only serve to weaken all involved" Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Na-Shay nods, "This one will advise the Na-No on such a course of action. This one hopes the outlanders can stop this enemy." Rianni@crystyll: "We have to. For the sake of our own people as much as yours, because if we fail then sooner or later this threat will consume everything. We /have/ to stop it while the means is within reach" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "Then this one wishes the outlanders fortune." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra, "Thank you. If that is all, I think we have taken enough of your time" Trenick@annpc#5570: | Na-Shay: "This one thanks the outlanders for coming so far to bring this information to the Haxash. The outlanders are welcome to return, and this one will let the other clans know that these - Trenick@annpc#5570: - outlanders have passed the Trial of Trust." Rianni@crystyll: | Kazra dips her head, "If anything more comes to our attention that we think may be of use to you, we will endeavour to visit again and keep you informed" Trenick@annpc#5570: | The Na-Shay dips her head in return, "This one will appreciate that."
View Act VII - Keelah's Task
NPC@annpc#5570 FX | Keelah and Nishaa beams down to a transport terminal on the inside of a building. NPC@annpc#5570: | Nishaa: "Right inside our destination. That's efficient. Have to admit I was hoping for a little sightseeing, though..." Keelah@crystyll: "I'm certain a little time can be found while we're here" NPC@annpc#5570: | Nishaa: "I heard good things about this city from the ones who got their R&R rotations here last week." Keelah@crystyll: "It is quite something to behold really" NPC@annpc#5570 | They make their way outside the small transport room, where a male Arshai awaits them in a formal looking black-and-red outfit, though not arranged in Colonial Fleet uniform patterns. NPC@annpc#5570: | Arshai: "Captain Keelah Se'Lai of the USS Valley Forge?" Keelah@crystyll: "I am Captain Keelah" she greets with a polite smile NPC@annpc#5570 | The Arshai nods, "Welcome to the Faeshe District of Nim-i-Rune. This one will take Keelah to the appointment with the tribe representative." Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you. Please, lead on" NPC@annpc#5570 | The Arshai leads them through an impressive-looking lobby with a large window and entrance out to the street, though at this low level, the elegant skyline of the city isn't visible. NPC@annpc#5570 | They soon enter a lift, which, like in the central Orion building, is surrounded on all sides with transparent aluminum. As the Arshai activates the lift and they begin to ascend though, they - NPC@annpc#5570: - can see that the view is not just of the interior of the building. The windows of the lobby area go all the way up, and as they go higher and higher, more of the city outside becomes visible - NPC@annpc#5570: - though these windows. NPC@annpc#5570 | Nishaa: "Wow. I can see they were right. This isn't even like an inner colony. It's built like a homeworld..." Keelah@crystyll smiles, "What did I tell you" NPC@annpc#5570 | Nishaa smiles back and nods, enjoying the view as they ascend. The lift stops at what appears to be the very top level, and the Arshai leads them out. NPC@annpc#5570 | They enter into another large lobby with views of the city from windows all around them, clearly meant to impress. Holograms of the heads of various Arshai line displays on the walls with - NPC@annpc#5570: - plaques on the projectors, and in the very centre is a large, red sculpture which seems like abstract art at first, but upon closer examination of the Arshai showing them along, depicts the very - NPC@annpc#5570: - symbol in the centre of his head- the emblem of the Faeshe Tribe. NPC@annpc#5570: | Nishaa: "They certainly know how to impress..." Keelah@crystyll: "Indeed. Quite the statement of pride, this place" NPC@annpc#5570 | The Arshai leads them into a room with several couches and datapads, "Wait here. Representative Dalena will call when ready." Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you" she takes a seat, making herself comfortable and being naturally accustomed to such practices now as to not feel uneasy NPC@annpc#5570 | Nishaa takes a seat as well, looking around the room as they wait. Various paintings line the walls as decor, and there is another, albeit smaller window, out over the cityscape. NPC@annpc#5570 | The Arshai who led them in exits the way they came, and they don't have to wait long before the other door in the room opens. NPC@annpc#5570 | Another formally dressed Arshai, this one a female with her red hair neatly braided, steps out to greet them, "Captain Keelah Se'Lai?" Keelah@crystyll stands, "I am Captain Keelah" NPC@annpc#5570 | Arshai: "This one is Dalena-Faeshe Dos Indoi'Foree'Vaie Nos Tasha-Faeshe. Come." Keelah@crystyll quietly follows, still sizing up the Arshai NPC@annpc#5570 | The Arshai is not particularly unique-looking in physical appearance; she certainly doesn't have Vora's imposing size and physique, nor Caeru's sense of authority and experience, but she - NPC@annpc#5570 - carries herself with a visible air of confidence and pride. NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena leads them into the room beyond, a large office space with some personal and some professional decor, and a very large window in the back with a stunning view of the city from above. NPC@annpc#5570 | The Arshai takes a seat at the far end of the table and motions for Keelah and Nishaa to sit. Keelah@crystyll somehow feels like she relate to one carrying herself so without the imposing frame to support it Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you." she notes the vista as she sits, "Quite the view you have here" NPC@annpc#5570 | Nishaa takes a seat as well, quietly enjoying the view as she lets the Captain do the talking. NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "Yes. The reward of the efforts over many past cycles. Building a new home here was not an easy feat." Keelah@crystyll: "I can imagine" she nods, "Anyway, thank you for seeing me on such short notice. I appreciate someone in your position must have a very busy schedule" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena nods, "Fortunately, the Faeshe's selection process ensures that any representative is fit for the tasks and responsibilities." NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena leans forward slightly, "Dalena understands from Mana's account of the Federation Keelah represents that Federation representatives are chosen more in the Inuze fashion?" Keelah@crystyll: "Democratic vote is the traditional method within the Federation itself" she nods, "But individual members states may operate their own varying approaches" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "Ah yes. Not unlike the different systems employed here. Is Keelah a...representative by vote as well?" Keelah@crystyll smiles at that, "No, I am appointed by rank in Starfleet. Through tenure and position, I am authorized to speak on behalf of the Federation with discretion" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena smiles as well, "Excellent. Dalena is pleased to speak to one who has been proven through experience and skill." Keelah@crystyll: "So You have already benefitted from Mana's insights. How much do you know about the current situation here?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "Dalena is the representative for the Faeshe on the New World Council. Dalena believes Dalena is quite informed of the situation. After an influx of refugees from the galactic rim, - NPC@annpc#5570: - Supreme Commander Vora decided to personally confirm reports of the Horde which is said to consume entire civilizations." Keelah@crystyll: "And the result of that action?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "The scouting expedition suffered some losses, but Vora returned and confirmed that the Horde is indeed a threat to the New World, and seeks to expediate the schedule for retaking the - NPC@annpc#5570: - old homeworld and surrounding territories from the EereE Overseer." Keelah@crystyll: "In order to accomodate abandoning the home you have made for yourselves here" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena nods, "Dalena admits, Dalena is reluctant to abandon the New World. Dalena has been raised here and see the New World as more of a home than old Arsae ever was. But Vora knows war better - NPC@annpc#5570: - than any other here. And if Vora believes the New World cannot be held from this threat, Dalena is inclined to believe Vora." NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "Leaving will be a sad moment, but Dalena must prioritize the survival of the Faeshe Tribe and the Arshai people above the material beauty of one world." Keelah@crystyll: "Dalena... it does not take a military strategist to know that conflict - by it's very nature - is unstable. When facing an imminent threat, can you honestly say with absolute conviction that waging + Keelah@crystyll: + war on another front and against an enemy of unknown strength is truly the best thing for your people?" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "The Colonial Fleet has obtained intelligence on EereE Space, and Vora does not believe taking EereE space will be particularly challenging with the size and power of the Arshai fleet." NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "This new foe must be a real threat. So if Vora calculates that this is the best option to pursue, Vora must have a good reason." Keelah@crystyll: "Vora is justifying her decision by any means available. She lost heavily to the Orion fleet, and made an enemy out of the Federation in the process. Her current action is driven by fear, which + Keelah@crystyll: + leads to rash thinking. If she creates an unstable warzone on the border of Federation space - with her history agianst them - it will likely lead to the creation of a DMZ border cutting your + Keelah@crystyll: + people off from support. We also know that she has been intentionally witholding information about her task force's experience with the Horde in order to not shed doubt" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "Withholding information? What information is that?" Keelah@crystyll: "The exact nature of how her ships were lost" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "Some of the scouting vessels were lost to the Horde, no?" Keelah@crystyll shakes her head, "No. It may be more accurate to say they were lost to the beings that orchestrate the Horde. But there is every chance they never even came to firing shots at the Horde" Keelah@crystyll: "The ships were lost when Vora's own people turned on her - on one another" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena nods slowly, "Then Vora is right. This is not an enemy that can be fought, regardless of the power of the fleet." Keelah@crystyll: "In that much, she is correct. To take it one step further; you might even say that the smaller the force; the greater the chance of success" Keelah@crystyll: "Trim that down to a single protected ship and a specific endgame target, and you have a recipe for victory" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "That is a very specific plan, Keelah." Keelah@crystyll: "We have been gathering information on this threat from a multitude of sources for almost 2 years now as we travelled here from Federation space" Keelah@crystyll leans in, "And that includes a means to contain the threat indefinitely. We just have to reach it" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "But if Keelah's plan fails, should the Arshai not have a backup plan to ensure survival?" Keelah@crystyll leans back, raising her hands a little in submission, "I never said the Arshai should not consider their options. Personally, I feel that with the natural seclusion your home here offers, you are in+ Keelah@crystyll: + a prime position to weather the coming storm should it reach you..." Keelah@crystyll: "However..." Keelah@crystyll: "Were I in your position, I too would not be satisfied with that as a lone plan. And whilst uprooting your entire civilization to wage war on the EereE is an option... is it the best one?" Keelah@crystyll: "You have a healthy Orion population here, and I know the Colonial Fleet is now on friendly terms with the OSN. I believe reaching out to them for temporary evacuation support is a more viable option" Keelah@crystyll: "In theory; you could evacuate to the OSN colonies, and return here once the threat is gone. If the future holds thoughts of retaking the old homeworld as well, so be it. It is not our place to try + Keelah@crystyll: + steer other societies. Just offer information and recommendation to friends, in this instance" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "The New World has always sought to reclaim the artifacts on the old homeworld, and Dalena doubts the EereE Overseer will simply allow access. But the Arshai have already waited long - NPC@annpc#5570: - and can wait longer if need be. Dalena does not like the idea of fleeing to the worlds of others, but..." NPC@annpc#5570 | She pauses for a second before asking, "Keelah's Federation is near EereE space, yes?" Keelah@crystyll: "Yes" she nods, "And the Federation recognizes the Colonial Arshai as allies. The OSN are not the only power in the quadrant who would be willing and able to assist you" NPC@annpc#5570 | Dalena: "But Keelah said if the Colonial Fleet is to take EereE space now...the Federation would see this action as a threat from the Arshai?" Keelah@crystyll: "Alliances such as this are tentative at best. Vora's pirate fleet vessels are still flagged as wanted for crimes against the civilian population, for example. They may not see it as a direct threat + Keelah@crystyll: + against Federation territory to begin with, that is why they would most likely implement a demilitarized zone between the respective borders. They would also begin to anticipate hypothetical moves +
View Act VIII - The Implant
Vulture@anncarise FX | Keelah's doorbell rings. Keelah@crystyll: "Come in" Vulture@anncarise steps inside, her suit on and helmet activated. Keelah@crystyll: "Vulture" she greets with a smile, "What can I do for you?" Vulture@anncarise: "I have news pertaining to my assignment here." Keelah@crystyll: "Oh?" She leans back, holding curious attention on Vulture, "Please" she gestures to an empty seat Vulture@anncarise sits down before reaching out her hand with the palm up. A beam of light projects from her helmet onto the palm, soon turning into a holographic projection of a mechanical chip. Keelah@crystyll watches with as much curiosity as to the topic as with admiration of the technology Keelah@crystyll: "What... exactly am I looking at here?" Vulture@anncarise | The holographic display of the chip begins disassembling itself to reveal its inner workings. Vulture@anncarise: "A schematic. One for a cybernetic implant." Vulture@anncarise: "I contacted the Colonial Fleet and used the Arshai's communication systems to establish contact with the Administration. It appears they have made significant breakthroughs since we departed the - Vulture@anncarise: - Regulated Zones." Keelah@crystyll: "That much I can see..." she studies the exploded detail, "So how exactly does this pertain to your assignment?" Vulture@anncarise: "Once installed, this implant encodes neural signals, effectively rendering an individual immune to telepathic influence, as long as the telepath does not possess the cipher." Vulture@anncarise: "It is one of only two methods that can serve as a long-term defense against telepathic control." Keelah@crystyll leans in, staring intently at the image, "Are you telling me that your Administration has developed an effective countermeasure against Horde influence?" Keelah@crystyll looks up, "And... what is the second?" Vulture@anncarise: "Genetic augmentation. The Administration favours the cybernetic countermeasure, as the chip can be removed with relative ease if no longer necessary." Vulture@anncarise: "Genetic changes can be undone, but the process is more complicated, and the procedure bears more risk." Keelah@crystyll: "So this is even tested and proven as a non-permanent solution? Impressive stuff indeed. Some of these elements look kind of familiar too, how did your people come up with this?" Vulture@anncarise: "I am unsure of the exact developmental process, but the implant has been tested against known forms of telepathic influence. It has not been directly tested against the Horde." Vulture@anncarise: "The Administration deems that the risk of losing Regulators to the Horde is still too high of a risk." Keelah@crystyll: "Given the level of secrets your people sit on, I am inclined to agree..." Vulture@anncarise: "However, if this vessel's personnel is to implement the countermeasure and prove effective, the Regulators will be able to equip crews with the implants, and these vessels will subsequently be - Vulture@anncarise: - ready to assist in dealing with the Horde threat." Keelah@crystyll: "This all sounds almost too good to be true" she smiles, "You understand that we will have to fully test this design before I even consider allowing anyone to try and use it" Vulture@anncarise: "Of course. It appears the Administration has altered your access level, possibly in light of the Horde threat. You are authorized to examine this design, despite the Regulator technology it - Vulture@anncarise: - incorporates. I will pass it to your Chief Medical Officer so that she may confirm it is safe to install." Keelah@crystyll: "Thank you, I am eager to see the results for myself. Of course, the strongest of the telepaths on board will be the best live test we are able to achieve for now" Vulture@anncarise nods, "The Regulators encountered similar difficulties in testing, though so far the strongest telepaths we could obtain the assistance of has not been able to subvert the effects of the implant." Vulture@anncarise: "Given my knowledge of cybernetic implants, I will assist as much as I can in optimizing the implant for the various species on this vessel." Keelah@crystyll: "Excellent, I assume there are no anticipated shortfalls in that regard?" Vulture@anncarise: "It is theorized that the implant may be more difficult to implement on beings further from the bipedal baseline. However, many such beings already demonstrate resistance or complete immunity to - Vulture@anncarise: - telepathic influence to begin with." Keelah@crystyll: "That does promising then. What will be your Administrations stance on sharing this beyond ourselves?" Vulture@anncarise: "The technology is not to be shared; however, the implants may be installed in members of other civilizations if these civilizations are at risk of contacting the Horde but do not have the means to - Vulture@anncarise: - evacuate. Civilizations with enough spacefaring vessels to evacuate their population should be encouraged to evacuate as a first measure." Keelah@crystyll: "Such as the Arshai, for example?" Vulture@anncarise: "Yes, but the Arshai may not yet be at immediate risk. They should prepare for evacuation should the Horde arrive, but we do not believe they need to leave at this moment." Vulture@anncarise: "Should a highly advanced spacefaring civilization be somehow unable or unwilling to evacuate...then sharing may be considered depending on the circumstances." Vulture@anncarise: "Advanced civilizations are the most likely ones to be able to reverse-engineer and abuse the technology in the implants, and should be kept away from them if possible." Keelah@crystyll: "Agreed. My primary chain of thought leads me to those who may find themselves standing at our sides against a direct Horde conflict" Vulture@anncarise: "I will advise you where possible, but as the Administration cannot yet send Regulators to the front lines of this conflict, we will be unable to perform Judgements to determine the suitability of - Vulture@anncarise: - civilizations in using this technology." Vulture@anncarise: "We will have to defer to your judgement. However, you should know that any spacefaring civilization with whom you share this technology will subsequently be mandated a Judgement once the conflict - Vulture@anncarise: - is resolved to ensure that they will not abuse what they may have learned. Those who do not pass will be subject to regulation as per usual protocols." Keelah@crystyll smiles, "I appreciate it your candor. Honestly, I don't see us actually seeking to share the technology itself, but rather provide implants to those who will need them to survive" Vulture@anncarise nods, "That will be acceptable as long as they are either incapable of reverse-engineering the technology, or are sufficiently dissuaded from doing so." Vulture@anncarise: "Or that you ensure they do not do so for the duration they possess the implants." Keelah@crystyll: "Sounds reasonable to me. Honestly, I'm still just overwhelmed by the fact that you managed to create this" Vulture@anncarise: "The countermeasure has not yet been tested against the beings it was meant to ward against. But we are confident it should be sufficient." Keelah@crystyll: "And I have no reason to doubt that confidence. Still, we should not put all of our faith in one solution and continue exploring other means of defense" Vulture@anncarise: "Certainly. And in addition to the Horde's mental influence, it is also suspected that they field significant numbers." Vulture@anncarise: "The upgrades you have made to your vessel are quite impressive. It will serve well if further conflict with the Lupan arises. I hope it will assist against the Horde as well." Keelah@crystyll: "That is certainly our assumption. But for all the will in the world, we are still just one ship. Facing the Horde en masse is not exactly plan-A" Vulture@anncarise: "This facility you believe may be capable of holding the Horde back permanently- it is an Iconian sphere." Keelah@crystyll nods, "Yes. At least for the most part. We do believe the Nuhar collaborated on it's development, so it is just as likely to incorporate their technology at some level also" Vulture@anncarise: "But it possesses Iconian gateway technology?" Keelah@crystyll: "Indeed it does. It is that technology which represents our means to return home. I take it from this line of questions that this technology is of particular interest to the Administration?" Vulture@anncarise: "Not entirely. It is fascinating technology, but we have had ample time to study them." Vulture@anncarise: "While I am not a supervisor...I believe this technology may provide you a contingency plan against the Horde." Keelah@crystyll: "You do? How so?" Vulture@anncarise: "If I remember correctly from what we learned during the Judgement...your people hold active gateways in your territory." Keelah@crystyll nods, "Correct" Vulture@anncarise nods, "As does the Administration. If the sphere does not turn out to be a viable means of containing the Horde, it could still be a valuable asset." Vulture@anncarise: "If the gateways can be reactivated, holding the sphere will provide direct access to the front lines of the Horde conflict." Keelah@crystyll: "Similarly, it also presents direct access for the Horde to reach into the heart of multiple territories" Vulture@anncarise: "Yes. Reaching the sphere is a priority, but if we manage to activate it first, we can send enough forces to hold it." Vulture@anncarise: "Assuming of course that the implant is effective, and these forces will not immediately fall under Horde control." Keelah@crystyll: "Let's... not entertain that thought for the moment, shall we" Vulture@anncarise nods, "I suggest that as soon as we have tested the effectiveness of our countermeasure, that we inform both our respective peoples." Vulture@anncarise: "The Administration will begin equipping crews and having these vessels standing by at gateways to assist. Your Starfleet should do the same." Vulture@anncarise: "Perhaps the sphere will be enough to hold back the Horde, but we should be prepared if assistance from other vessels is needed." Keelah@crystyll: "Assuming we test the implant successfully - including a clean removal - Starfleet will certainly look at preparing it's forces. Though I don't imagine they will be standing by at any gates, given we+ Keelah@crystyll: + could be years away from reaching it for all we know still" she chuckles Vulture@anncarise chuckles, "Yes, not knowing its exact location is problematic. Fortunately, the Regulators have Arrays near all our gates so our forces will be able to respond expediently if needed." Keelah@crystyll: "At least we have a bearing on it still. Of course, we can not speak to it's operational status..." Keelah@crystyll: "This is why Professor Lycas is with us. As one of the foremost experts on that technology, we will be relying on him should we need to do any work in order to restore it" Keelah@crystyll: "As mentioned before, that gateway represents our only means of reaching home short of a slow return trip..." Vulture@anncarise: "I will do what I can to assist once we reach the sphere. I do not specialize in Iconian technology, but my knowledge may still be of use." Keelah@crystyll smiles at that, "Who knows, by then it could be just as valuable as a way home for you also" Vulture@anncarise: "We will have to see once we reach it. First, we must ensure our countermeasure against Horde influence functions adequately." Vulture@anncarise stands, "I will deliver the schematics to your medical personnel for them to examine." Keelah@crystyll: "Indeed. That is a long way off still. Good luck with the implant, I look forward to seeing the results in action" Vulture@anncarise: "I will inform you when it is ready for testing."
View Act IX - Showdown
Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The last group has returned to the ship from their assignment to provide information to the Arshai tribes and guilds. Keelah heads on her way to the conference room to hold a debriefing to - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 - share what everyone has learned. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Crewmembers give their more formal greetings to Keelah as she passes them by as usual. Keelah@crystyll responds in kind for the most part, a little more casually with those she is closer with. Generally feeling alive with the buzz of a mission launch as they prep to depart Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 walks down the hall at a slightly quicker pace than usual and calls out to Keelah, "Captain!" Keelah@crystyll: "Lieutenant? Everything ok?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "I was just looking for you. This whole...mission you and most of the senior staff have been doing..." Keelah@crystyll pulls Evanne to one side of the corridor, taking a more serious tone, "What is it? Has something new come to light?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Not yet, but I just had a thought. The Colonial Fleet's Supreme Commander, she's been acting irrational, hasn't she? Afraid, panicking, even?" Keelah@crystyll: "Panicked might be a bit of a stretch... but she is definitely spooked. We considered the possibility that she is being influenced but there was no evidence to support the theory when we met with her" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I don't think she's being influenced. None of the cases they've been directing us have had any sign of direct influence. But they were all afraid, hopeless, just...to a greater extent. And we think - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - their contact with the Horde has altered their brain. Upset the brain chemistry, almost rewired it to be more suceptible to fear." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "But I was thinking...the Arshai are just directing us the most extreme cases. The cases with visible psychological changes on the surface." Keelah@crystyll nods, "It does stand to reason that if one from the mission was exposed, then all were. I heard you and Kazra made some good inroads with identifying the change. So you are suggesting a test to + Keelah@crystyll: + prove she is... not herself?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "The changes in the others that aren't showing major psychological breakdown might be too subtle to notice for the Arshai, but now that Kazra knows what to look for...I want to ask the - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - Arshai to send over someone from the mission who isn't showing any outward signs first. We probably don't want to start with their Supreme Commander. But if we know someone could be affected to a - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - smaller degree without fully breaking down...then we have good reason to suspect the Supreme Commander might be affected too." Keelah@crystyll: "It's a sound theory, Lieutenant. I assume Kazra is on board with this too?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Actually I.../just/ came up with it. I'll go talk to her about it." Keelah@crystyll: "No need. I'm on my way to the staff debrief and she will be there" starts walking for the conference room, pausing to glance back, "Well... you coming or what?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods and follows along. Keelah@crystyll enters the conference with a curt greeting to the gathered officers, "Hello everyone, welcome back from your respective assignments" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The rest of the staff are already gathered within and are holding their own conversations, which fade out as Keelah enters and greets everyone. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 sticks by the edge of the room as the senior officers occupy all the seats. Like last time, Mana takes a spot beside Keelah. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "Mana hopes Captain Keelah's meeting with the Faeshe proceeded well?" Keelah@crystyll looks to Eva as the group settles, "Join us Lieutenant, you're not on ceremony here" she smiles, looking Mana, "Yes thank you Mana, I believe it was" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 smiles and takes a seat near the back of the table. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "We don't usually see you at these, Ev." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I'm just here to talk to Kazra about something. Probably after the official debrief." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "Mana is pleased to report that the Researchers and Doshaie were fairly receptive to Mana and Kelly's information as well." Keelah@crystyll: "Actually... I asked Lieutenant Dra to join us in order to discuss some interesting ideas she has sounded based on the research done with you, Kazra" Keelah@crystyll: "That is a good start for us Mana" looks from Mana to Kelly, "Do we have an anticipated decision from those two parties?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "The Doshaie are...eccentric people, and that's me saying this," she chuckles slightly. "I can't predict exactly what they'll do, but it seems the main appeal they see in Vora's plan is - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - the potential to encounter new technologies along the way, which they'll do better obtaining if they don't start a war by the Federation's border." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly: "They couldn't care less about what the Federation stands for, but they seem interested in the prospect of being allies or even members just for the sake of potential exchange of tech - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - and knowledge, so I'm hoping they, and the Researcher's Guild with them, will oppose the motion to avoid alienating us." Keelah@crystyll: "Sounds reasonable to me. Good work, both of you" she smiles to the pair before looking for the next report to be offered up Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vrolmacht speaks up, "Persuading the Shipwrights' Guild was not difficult. Though they tend to side by default with Vora, there was already significant unease at abandoning all they have built - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - here. And there are far more opportunities to come for them to see their ships in glorious action." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vrolmacht: "I do not believe their Colony Liaison will support the decision." Keelah@crystyll: "Oh?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vrolmacht: "They have too much to lose by abandoning the New World, and though they are not opposed to retaking their old homeworld, they have no desire to leave the new one behind for it." Keelah@crystyll: "Not unlike my experience with the Fashae in that regard" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Lycas: "Unfortunately, I had no such success with the Lorekeepers. They have too much to gain from the old homeworld, and though they do not wish to abandon the new one either, they will take - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - any excuse they can get to reclaim what was lost, however irrational. They have taken my information into consideration, but I expect they will continue to support the plan as it favours their - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - interests most of all." Keelah@crystyll: "As expected" she nods, "THough the Fashae are of similar conviction, they are reluctant to give up what they have here and are also optimistic about the potential of future relations with the + Keelah@crystyll: + Federation" Keelah@crystyll | Lennie chimes in: "Th'Orion folks'ere ain't keen on stayin' for th'sake of it, but it also ain't their fight. They seemed ameanable to th'idea o'reachin' out to th'OSN" Keelah@crystyll | Lennie: "They also knew surprisingly little 'bout 'em. Which seemed a bit odd, given th'history between Vora's fleet an'them. Makes me wonder if th'Orions'ere been sheltered from all tha'..." Keelah@crystyll: "Food for thought, definitely. But without proof, it's just a theory for now" Keelah@crystyll: "The Fashae were also open to leaning on the OSN as a temporary escape" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vrolmacht: "It would not be the first time Vora has used more...shady methods." Keelah@crystyll: "I certainly would not put it past her, especially given the weakened state that conflict left her in" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "The Colonial Fleet will be capable of completely evacuating the population if needed. That is one of the mandates of the Fleet. To be able to serve as Arks again should something happen - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - here. The Arshai have good relations with the Regulators already and should be able to retreat to OSN space." Keelah@crystyll: "And both the OSN and Federation will be positioned much more favourably to assist them, should they do so" Keelah@crystyll: "Ok, Kazra how did you get on with the tribes on the surface?" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra: "Well, I think we convinced them to at least attend the meeting and have a voice in the decision" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "And the Haxash have little reason to want to leave, so the Haxash should oppose the decision as long as the tribe's leader is willing to attend." Keelah@crystyll: | Kazra: "They are stubbornly standing their ground and remain adamant that they will not leave under any circumstances, though I believe our surprise revelation may go some way to convince them + Keelah@crystyll: + otherwise" Keelah@crystyll: "Surprise revelation, Commander?" Keelah@crystyll: | Kazra nods: "It will all be in my report, Captain. But in short; Dividians" Keelah@crystyll perks a brow, "...Dividians? Here?" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra nods, "Yes. They were found to be occupying the site of a failed reactor experiment where the Researchers Guild was trying to work with triolic energy" Keelah@crystyll: | Kazra: "They took Trenick and I to another time period, some point in the future. They communicated with us and asked for help in sustaining their food source there; the 'Fallen'" Keelah@crystyll: "The... 'Fallen'? Are you going where I think you're going with this?" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra nods again, "Their term for the Horde occupation that consisteed largely of Arshai and Orion - for want of a better term - drones" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "So...does that mean..." Keelah@crystyll leans back with a breath as she considers this, "Quantum mechanics have proven that multiple universes overlap; mirror, or parallel dimensions where reality plays out differently" Keelah@crystyll: "This - coupled with testimony of temporal interaction with future agents - confirms that futures can, and indeed regularly are, rewritten" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana nods, "Yes. That is true. So this time period Kazra saw...could be from a reality where things are different." Keelah@crystyll: "Yes, exactly. It is but one of an infinite number of futures, nothing more. However I am sure this information would weigh heavily on the mindset of the people here" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra nods, "It certainly did" Keelah@crystyll slooowly turns to Kazra, "You shared this experience with the Haxash?" Keelah@crystyll: | Kazra: "Yes Captain, and though the information may be determental to our goal I felt it was within mission parameters to provide them all information to enable an informed decision" Keelah@crystyll smiles after a moment, "Don't worry, Commander. You did the right thing. So tell me now about your successes with the medical examinations" Keelah@crystyll: | Kazra: "Well, with Lieutenant's Dra's assistance I was able to isolate a measurable neuro-chemical imbalance which appears to be symptomatic of Horde 'influence'" Keelah@crystyll: | Kazra: "Our findings have been passed back to the Arshai who are now working to identify and refine the measure across all affected personnel" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Or an aftermath of the influence, at least. And...I think the Arshai may be looking at too narrow of a range." Keelah@crystyll: "So we have a test of sorts to determine influence? Good news indeed" Keelah@crystyll: "So Lieutenant, why don't you fill us in" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "This behaviour the Supreme Commander, Vora, is showing...I don't know her very well, but I think it may be artificially induced." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "But Captain Keelah said Vora was not being controlled by the Horde." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Not being controlled, yes, but it seems this Horde is able to cause lingering changes to individuals' minds." Keelah@crystyll turns to Mana, "There was no evidence to suggest it from our meeting with her, that is true." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 looks to Kazra, "I think the Arshai are just sending us cases with clear psychological signs on the surface. But everyone on that mission might have been affected to a smaller extent, including - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - the Supreme Commander." Keelah@crystyll: "It is certainly a reasonable premise" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra thinks a moment and nods, "Well within the realm of possibility" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I'm thinking to ask the Arshai to send us someone who isn't showing any obvious signs of change. And if you can detect the same markers in your scans now you know what to look for, then we might - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - need to look at the Supreme Commander for potential changes too." Keelah@crystyll: "I believe it's worth persuing. Though if we find the suspected evidence, I would push it back to the Arshai that /all/ mission personnel need to be monitored, including the Supreme Commander" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra: "I'll speak to the fleet about having a patient report here who fits the criteria" Keelah@crystyll nods, "Excellent. We should pursue this as a matter of urgency; preferably before the meeting occurs" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "The decision will be soon. Mana will notify Keelah when the Council gathers again. Would Keelah wish to watch from the ship or the viewing theatre in the Council Complex?" Keelah@crystyll: "If it is permissible, I would like to attend" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana: "Keelah will not be permitted to be part of the Council meeting unless Keelah has more information to present, but Keelah is permitted to observe from the viewing theatre which provides a - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - live holographic record of the meeting." Keelah@crystyll: "That will suffice, please make the necessary arrangements" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Mana nods, "Mana will do so." Keelah@crystyll: "Very good. Well then, is there anything else before we break?" she looks around the table Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Kelly, Vrolmacht and Lycas shake their heads. Keelah@crystyll: | As does everyone else Keelah@crystyll: "Alright then, Kazra keep me posted on the medicals. Dismissed everyone" --- Mana@anncarise and Keelah beam into the Council Complex in Nim-i-Rune a few hours later. Mana@anncarise leads Keelah out of the transporter room into the grand lobby beyond, pointing to a grand door at the second, and topmost floor accessible from the lobby, "That is where the Council meets." Mana@anncarise: "But Mana and Keelah cannot enter without something to present. So Mana will take Keelah to the viewing theatre." Keelah@crystyll: "Just out of interest, Mana... and not because I'm here anticipating such an outcome, but..." Keelah@crystyll: "Would our medical premise to doubt Vora's state of mind be deemed something to present?" Mana@anncarise nods, "Yes. If Keelah had sufficient proof." Mana@anncarise leads Keelah into a lift on the side of the lobby. Mana@anncarise | The lift opens up to a large, circular room with rows and rows of seats along the side, like a futuristic take on a Roman amphitheatre. In the centre is a live, life-sized projection of the - Mana@anncarise: - Council Chambers. Keelah@crystyll: "Your people don't do anything by half measures do they..." Mana@anncarise smiles, "Arshai here take pride in works of art and culture." Mana@anncarise leads Keelah over to find a spot to sit. Keelah@crystyll: "Rightly so" she smiles Mana@anncarise | Soon, the Council representatives begin filing in, some of them familiar faces to Keelah like Dalena and Vora, others still unfamiliar to her. Two appear to be holocalling in, a male Arshai in - Mana@anncarise: - some kind of lab coat and an old, wizened looking female dressed in furs. Mana@anncarise | Background Arshai: "Looks like a full Council this time. Even the Haxash are attending." Mana@anncarise | Background Arshai 2: "This is an important decision, after all." Mana@anncarise | Background Arshai 3: "Maybe Vora talked the Haxash into attending this." Mana@anncarise | Background Arshai 2: "Why would Vora do that? The Haxash would never leave. Vora would just be adding a vote against Vora's own plan!" Mana@anncarise | Background Arshai 3: "Vora can be very convincing. This one still remembers when-" Mana@anncarise | Background Arshai 4: "Stop chattering! The meeting is starting!" Mana@anncarise | One of the holograms begins to speak, "The Council has had time to reflect and discuss Vora-Orion Dos Shaie'Foree Nos Zona's plan. Does anyone have any further concerns to raise?" Mana@anncarise | Dalena: "Yes. Has Vora considered asking Vora's other people for assistance?" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "The Orions?" Mana@anncarise | Dalena: "Some Orions are beginning to rebuild Orion civilization further into the galaxy, no?" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "That's true. But we've only recently secured peace with them. Besides, we have seen the refugee ships crossing through our space, looking for safe harbour. Is that what we want to become?" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "We've risen above the last remnants on an old Ark, become a force to be reckoned with. We are a proud people now. Do we really want to go on the run again?" Mana@anncarise | Representative 1: "Will the Arshai have a choice when the Horde arrives?" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "I'm giving us a choice. That is the point of this plan..." --- Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 steps into the sickbay and heads for Kazra, "Doctor, the Colonial Fleet should be ready to send over someone from the scouting mission without drastic personality changes." Kazra@crystyll: "Excellent. We can proceed as soon as they are ready" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods, "No reason to set up quarantine or anything for this one, right?" Kazra@crystyll: "The medical concerns are already settled and without concern over violent outburts or unpredictable behaviour I'm happy to bring them in as normal" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Then we're all set. Still beaming them directly here for ease though?" Kazra@crystyll: "Just as well" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 nods and moves over to the console to coordinate the transport with the Arshai. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | A few moments later, an Arshai female in Colonial Fleet uniform materializes in the sickbay. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The Arshai looks around, "This is the Valley Forge medical bay?" Kazra@crystyll turns to the arrival with a smile, "It is, welcome and thank you for agreeing to assist us" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Arshai: "This one is Jarra-Inuze Dos Take'Paxee'Shaie Nos Paxe. Jarra is responsible for the medical wellbeing of Jarra's team and volunteered for this in case there are any effects Jarra could - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - not detect. The mission was a very...harrowing experience." Kazra@crystyll: "As I understand" she nods, "Please, join me. I believe you will be able to appreciate our findings" she turns back to the display Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra nods and steps over to the display. Kazra@crystyll shows the comparative scan results, "These are neuro-chemical readings from those of your task force who returned with distinct psychological trauma" Kazra@crystyll: "Mapped against their last recorded scans prior to the mission departure. I assume you see the pattern" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra nods, "Jarra can see the changes. The encounter with the Horde must have been more than just visions and mind control. The enemy must alter minds as well." Kazra@crystyll: "Yes exactly. With the assistance of Lieutenant Dra here we have been able to gauge a measurable consistenty of the emotional state among these patients" Kazra@crystyll: "Lieutenant?" she looks to Evanne, inviting her to expand Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I've been feeling a consistent state of fear and despair in the patients, and I believe the Horde is using this power to weaken the mental fortitude of their victims." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "However, I think the patients we've seen may only be the more extreme cases, and now that we know which changes to look for, we're testing our hypothesis that everyone on the mission may have been - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - impacted to a lesser degree." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra nods, "A small degree of change would not have registered as a medical issue and only as a temporary emotional imbalance." Kazra@crystyll: "Which brings us to you. Call it a precautionary measure, but we want to make sure that the rest of you haven't also been affected to a lesser degree" Kazra@crystyll: "So with your consent, we should proceed with the examination" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra: "Jarra is here for any tests Jarra is needed for. As long as Jarra will be guaranteed to survive, of course," she adds with a slight smirk. Kazra@crystyll chuckles, "I'm sure we can manage that. Please, take a seat" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra takes a seat on the nearby bed. Kazra@crystyll: "Same drill as last time Lieutenant. I'll follow your lead" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 sits on the edge of the bed, closing her eyes and taking one of the Arshai's hands. "She seems relatively calm. I'm detecting some unease, some levels of fear about the Horde, but it's nowhere - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - near as drastic. Or constant. The vision is there too, but much more fragmented. I can't make sense of any of it." Kazra@crystyll: "Jarra, can you recount any specificis of your encounter?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra shakes her head, "Only the others turning on us...chaos on all the ships...wait, I think there's one thing. From whatever it is we saw. Like our clone designs." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I see it too. The...medical data. Much less clear this time." Kazra@crystyll: "The medical thing again?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra: "Yes! Like when we make our clones and our children for the birthing pods." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 opens her eyes and stands, "She's definitely scared of the Horde, but it could be natural or induced fear. But she definitely saw some of the vision the others saw as well." Kazra@crystyll: "Well then, let's see if that if purely natural or imposed by the encounter shall we" Kazra@crystyll calls up the comparision scan data Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | The scans would mark the emotional state as within the range of being natural, but looking at the neurochemistry closely, Kazra can see that the same alterations in the other patients can be - Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: - in a much, much more subtle amount in Jarra, extremely easy to miss. Kazra@crystyll nods, "Well Evanne, looks like your hunch was correct" she turns to Jarra, "Come see for yourself" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra stands and steps over to take a look as well, "So...Jarra has been impacted by the Horde too. Just to a smaller extent. Maybe that explains the nightmares..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "You had nightmares?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra nods, "Jarra thought this was normal, after having to fight against Jarra's own friends when the Horde affected everyone. But maybe because of what the Horde did to Jarra." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Jarra: "That would mean everyone else on the mission has been affected too. Including..." Kazra@crystyll: "Yes..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We should inform the Captain." Kazra@crystyll nods, "Jarra, I believe you have an obligation to your people. We are already exploring the possibility of countering this effect, even attempting to reverse it. We are at your disposal if you wish + Kazra@crystyll: + to continue with our assistance" Kazra@crystyll: "I must update the Captain however, do excuse me a moment" she steps away, tapping her combadge... --- Mana@anncarise | Vora: "...I think that's as far as we're going to get with the discussion here." Mana@anncarise | Representative 2: "Very well. The decision begins. Those in favour of Vora's plan." Mana@anncarise | Only Vora and one other representative raise their hands. Mana@anncarise | Vora: "What? Dalena, you said last time-" Mana@anncarise | Dalena: "Dalena cannot support-" Mana@anncarise | Representative 1: "Let the decision finish first! Those against Vora's plan." Mana@anncarise | Six representatives raise their hands. Dalena appears to be keeping out of the vote. Mana@anncarise | Representative 2: "The decision is made. Orion Tribe, Colonial Fleet and Lorekeeper's Guild support, Haxash, Inuze and Doshaie Tribes, Artists, Shipwrights and Researchers against." Mana@anncarise | Representative 2: "Vora's plan will not be put into effect." Mana@anncarise | Vora: "So you're all going to sit here and let the Horde come? Fine. I cannot allow my people to fall like this. I still have control of the fleet. I will take as many ships as I can with me." Mana@anncarise | Dalena stands, "Vora will disobey the will of the Council?" Keelah@crystyll: "I don't like where this is going..." Mana@anncarise | There are audible gasps and murmurs among the audience in the theatre as Keelah's combadge chirps... Keelah@crystyll taps her combadge, "Se'Lai" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "Vora has no choice! You will let everything and everyone be taken by the Horde!" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra: "Captain, our suspicions were confirmed. We had a CMO from the Arshai fleet join us and we confirmed the same neural imbalance. She is already working to extend testing and support to the + Keelah@crystyll: + rest of the task force. But of course, the Supreme Commander is otherwise engaged..." Mana@anncarise | Haxash Na-No: "Vora is the one proposing that the Arshai abandon all the Arshai have accomplished on Vue-En!" Keelah@crystyll: <C> Thank you for the update, Kazra. Your timing is impeccible as always" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "So we could survive! If we bickered like this on the old homeworld, we would all be dead now!" Mana@anncarise looks over to Keelah for what to do... Keelah@crystyll turns to Mana, "I believe this latest outburst in the council chamber prompts the need for us to interject" Mana@anncarise | Representative 1: "Vora is not even attempting to protect the Arshai! Vora is going to leave regardless of the Council's decision!" Mana@anncarise nods, "Mana thinks such an interjection will be acceptable...though Mana was hoping to avoid this." Mana@anncarise stands, "Mana can take Keelah to the Council room." Keelah@crystyll: "As was Keelah..." Keelah@crystyll she adds with a resigned sigh as she follows Mana@anncarise | In the background, the holograms of the Council representatives continue to argue. Mana@anncarise leads Keelah to the second floor of the lobby and the grand entrance into the Council chambers. Mana@anncarise | Two Arshai in some form of ceremonial red armour stand guard outside. Mana@anncarise: "Captain Keelah of the Valley Forge has important information to present to the Council." Mana@anncarise | Guard: "This was not scheduled. What is this information?" Keelah@crystyll: "For the immediate attention of the Supreme Commander as it may impact the very topic they are currently arguing about." Mana@anncarise | The guard looks to Keelah, "And why was this information not presented earlier?" Keelah@crystyll: "Because the data has just been confirmed through testing" Mana@anncarise | The guard nods and opens the door. Mana@anncarise quickly leads Mana through into the grand chamber, where the representatives continue to argue. Mana@anncarise | Representative 3: "This is the chance for the Arshai to take back the artifacts the EereE have not yet had the chance to desecrate!" Mana@anncarise | Representative 1: "But this doesn't have to be done now! Anything still there will remain there!" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "This is about our survival! How is this different from what our ancestors had to do? Someone has to make the hard decisions!" Mana@anncarise | Many of the representatives are standing and arguing now, and the chamber is in total chaos. Mana@anncarise | The guards on the edges of the chamber, wearing the same ceremonial armour as those outside, look to one another, trying to gauge if and when they need to intervene. Keelah@crystyll looks to Mana for guidance on protocol or if she should just wade in Mana@anncarise: "If Keelah wishes to present, Keelah should do so now before Vora storms off and takes ships away to carry out this insane plan on their own..." Keelah@crystyll nods and takes a deep breath before approaching the council, "Ladies and gentlemen of the Council..." Mana@anncarise | Everyone quiets down as they look to Keelah, likely at the surprise of a stranger strolling into the chamber. Vora turns to her accusingly. Mana@anncarise | Vora: "So you took my challenge after all, I take it. Congratulations. You've doomed the Arshai." Keelah@crystyll ignores Vora's remark, "I apologize to you all for the interruption, but I must ask that you permit an emergency recess" her gaze slowly drifts to Vora, "There is a matter of the upmost importance + Keelah@crystyll: + that I must discuss with the Supreme Commander that can not wait until after you conclude this debate" Mana@anncarise | The others look to Vora and she nods to them, and they begin to disperse out of the chamber. Mana@anncarise | She turns her gaze back to Keelah, "What is it? Come to gloat of your victory in winning over the Arshai people?" Keelah@crystyll approaches Vora, "Can we speak in confidence here?" Mana@anncarise | Vora waves the guards off and goes over to a console by one of the pillars, tapping it. Mana@anncarise | Vora: "The broadcast is off. The room is dark now. Speak, and you better have something good to say." Keelah@crystyll: "You will recall that when we last met we agreed to examine your affected officers" Mana@anncarise | Vora nods, "Yes. For all your meddling, I'd be a fool not to take advantage of your medical abilities and scientific minds." Keelah@crystyll: "Well, we got results. There is a measurable neuro-chemical imbalance consistent across all patients that reconciles with heightened emotional susceptibility" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "And have you found a way to reverse it? Or better yet, protect us from the Horde's influence?" Keelah@crystyll: "It is a work in progress. The reason we had to speak however is the rather more startling result to come out of this..." Mana@anncarise: | Vora: "That is?" Keelah@crystyll: "That all mission personnel have been affected by this persisting condition. Your people are already working to test and assist everyone else, but given the symptoms associated with this I am here to+ Keelah@crystyll: + ask - to plead with you - to put a hold on this debate until we can test you as well. And if needs be, undo the damage, before you continue" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "And you're sure of this. That I...and everyone else on this mission, have been affected by the Horde?" Keelah@crystyll: "All the evidence so far supports it. We don't for certain until we test, but given the stakes I hope you understand why I had to intervene" Mana@anncarise | Vora: "Show me this evidence." Keelah@crystyll: "The quickest way will be for you to accompany back to the Valley Forge as that's where everything is. But if you prefer, I can have the data brought here to you" Mana@anncarise | Vora shakes her head, "If what you say is true...we need to fix this as soon as possible. I'll come with you." Keelah@crystyll nods, "Thank you. The sooner we get this resolved, the better for everyone. Can we get a transporter lock in here?" Mana@anncarise | Vora motions for them to follow, "The Council chamber is shielded from transporter locks by any outside system. We'll be fine once we're outside." Keelah@crystyll nods and follows Mana@anncarise | They exit the chamber into the lobby, where Vora gives Keelah a nod. Keelah@crystyll taps her combadge, "Se'Lai to Valley Forge. Three to beam up; straight to sickbay" Keelah@crystyll & Co. materialize in the main sickbay Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 and Kazra await them in sickbay. Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "Welcome back, Captain. I see you found the Supreme Commander." Keelah@crystyll: "Doctor. Lieutenant. Yes, we have come to show the Supreme Commander your research data" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 steps over, tapping on the console to call up the data but letting Kazra explain as Vora walks over to observe. Keelah@crystyll hovers at the back while the others do their thing, quietly observing Keelah@crystyll | Kazra: "You can see from these scans that there is a measurable imbalance to the patients neuro-chemistry. This was measured against telepathic reading conducted by the Lieutenant here" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "Yes, I see it. Are those the ones we sent over to you?" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra continues: "Yes, these first scans are from the initial patients; those showing the strongest impact" Tapping the screen, "These are from our patient today who showed no discernible signs" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora nods, "And you think I might be affected too, along with everyone else on this mission." Keelah@crystyll pipes up from the corner, "We don't know until we check. But the consistency of results would suggest that you may have been" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "Very well. You've already got everyone against my plan already, so you've got no reason to trick me. Give me a test, then." Keelah@crystyll: "Vora I hope you understand on some level, that it has never been my intention to subvert you. We want what is best for the Arshai people as much as you do" Keelah@crystyll | Kazra: "If you will just accompany the Lieutenant, she will guide you through the process" and moves to the monitoring station Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 motions to the bed, "Just take a seat here." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora takes a seat on the edge, "You're gonna have to look inside my head, aren't you?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "I'll try to avoid anything you don't want me to see." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "I'm more concerned about what /you/ don't want to see." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 takes a seat as well, "Close your eyes, and try to relax. Focus on what you saw with the Horde." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 closes her eyes and sets a hand on Vora's, "I...see what you mean. You haven't had an easy life..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "That's putting it lightly." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "There. The vision. The medical scans, the ships...wait...these are Colonial Fleet ships..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "They're gathering for war...firing on an enemy...and the New World...the shipyard ring falling apart, surrounded by ships like a swarm of flies..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "No...you were right, Keelah..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "They wanted this. This...retreat, this war with the EereE...this was their plan. And I've been following it without knowing..." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 opens her eyes and stands, but Vora remains sitting. Keelah@crystyll approaches Vora with a comforting tone while the others run their checks, "Vora, I'm sorry. But we believe this is how they work to influence strong people before they are close enough to be + Keelah@crystyll: + threatened by them" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora slowly opens her eyes and looks at Keelah, "Find a way to fix this. Until then, Caeru is Supreme Commander." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570: "We might want to keep everyone who came back from that mission under observation as well." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "That...could be a problem." Keelah@crystyll: "Oh?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "I sent one of them to deal with the Dunishai unrest. And she hasn't reported back in..." Keelah@crystyll: "The... Dunishai?" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "One of our vassals states. Technically two states, one species. Caeru asked me to intervene, but I was too busy with...the Council and everything. So I sent someone I trusted." Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora: "Someone who was on the mission." Keelah@crystyll: "Don't worry. We can pick it up with Caeru and stand by to assist if needs be" Keelah@crystyll: "For now, I believe my officers are correct and the priority has to be assisting the rest of your people" Evanne Dra@annpc#5570 | Vora nods, "Thank you, Captain Keelah. I am...in your debt. And perhaps all Arshai." Keelah@crystyll smiles a little, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we. Kazra here can bring you up to speed on the details and plans already underway. I should speak with Caeru as the Council still needs to + Keelah@crystyll: + be addressed"

MISSION PARAMETERSOUTCOME SUMMARYNegotiate drydock refit with the Arshai. Assess status of Colonial Fleet scouting mission. The Supreme Commander was confirmed as suffering Horde influence and stepped down from her post. Arshai plan to evacuate and reoccupy their old homeworld has been muted. Valley Forge refit & upgrade completed
RECOMMENDATIONS
Full diplomatic relations need to be established with the Arshai in order bolster attempts to avert war on the Federation border. It is this officers assessment that the Arshai leadership here is predominately open to such a relationship being formed. Further to this, it is recommended to include the OSN Tabadi's Circle in this as there is a significant Orion population here without representation at Narris. The concept of reconciling with the OSN Orions resonates strongly with this population according to testimony, and a number of these civilians have joined our crew in the hopes of getting closer to that heritage.
This has been our first validated encounter with individuals who have been influenced by the Horde. Medical staff have successfully extrapolated a neuro-chemical imbalance which serves as a 'tell' to this influence. A remedial treatment is currently under development and will be tested with the (former) Supreme Commander as a volunteer test subject. Further to this, our Operator representative has presented us with details of neural implant which they believe will serve as a preventative measure against this form of influence. Though I remain wary of the origins of such a device, it is a promising solution that is now being developed for on board testing.
NARRATIVE
After delivering the captured Lupan flagship to Arshai authorities, we proceeded per their instruction to the coordinates of the New World. What we found was a system naturally obscured from all forms of detection at our disposal. It was only when proceeding through a perception barrier that we found the New World. The Arshai were welcoming and permitted us to drydock while negotiations were conducted for assisting in our refit work. This soon led to the revelation that the Supreme Commander's scouting mission against the Horde had returned with heavy losses, and she was now rallying for the Arshai to uproot from the New World and launch an aggressive reoccupation of their old home from EereE territory - on the Federation border. Through interaction and observation, sufficient evidence was found to suspect her being under Horde influence and so we moved to dissuade the political bodies of the colony from pursuing this action.
Our work was largely successful, although some representatives inevitably did not want to change their decision. The shift came in the end when we confirmed the medical evidence associated with Horde influence thanks to the large medical survey carried out by our staff. Though I was forced to dramatically interrupt a public address by the Supreme Commander, she was of sufficient mind and reasoning to permit a test for the same evidence in herself. Her own medical background serving well in this instance as she was able to see the facts for herself without explanation. This revelation led to her standing down from her post and the Arshai subsequently resigning from the notion of the campaign against their former homeland.
With thanks to the accommodations made by the Colonial Fleet in use of their drydock and the provision of support staff to carry out the work, the Valley Forge's second major refit has been successfully completed, with all recent battle damage restored to Starfleet specifications. New upgrades have also successfully been installed and tested as follows:
Neutronium hull plating: A thin layer of reconstituted neutronium has been coated around the outer hull(s), reworked at Arshai facilities from salvaged raw material originally belonging to the Nuhar construct - Wanderer. Though the original construct was comparable in size to the Valley Forge. The salvage and refinement process reduced the workable quantity significantly so, making it impractical to attempt a complete hull replacement at this time. While the fine layer adds no significant armouring to the hull, it's natural properties to serve in scattering sensor beams and making the Valley Forge interior impervious to sensor scans.
Ablative armour nano-generators: Building on existing Starfleet designs with the technology of Olelian replication added, this system holds and deploys Olelian nanites from strategically placed housings around the outer hull (which have been more seamlessly integrated into the hull plating than the original generator design, sported by USS Voyager). This alternative method means that deployment power and time costs are exponentially reduced, and that the ablative layer is much more reactive to vessel conditions. Further development of localized shield generators to automatically deploy around opening weapon & hangar ports is currently under investigation.
Transporter scattering field: This has been developed through the implementation of a tertiary shield matrix which is routed throughout the inner hull using a distribution system based on the interplexing distribution nodes used on Borg vessels. The node system allows for effective power distribution without exerting heavy additional strain on reserves, meaning that the system can remain active in the background and not require direct activation and power shunt like the combat shield grids. Coupled with the neutronium hull plating, the intention of this development is to secure the Valley Forge against boarding by more advanced hostile species; which has occurred an unacceptable number of times in this officers command.
Point defense system: automated - short range - turret heads have been mounted at strategic positions around the hull of the ship. Activating alongside tactical systems, this system tracks and eliminates small craft & projectiles moving at too close a range and too high speed for standard weapons targeting to be effective. It can also be manually overridden to provide blanket suppressing fire, as recommended from the FEPD from their greater experience with small craft deployment, this option should allow greater security to combat deployment of small craft.
