BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Born to a middle class family in downtown Detroit, Norman grew up reading the news and learning of humanity's new discoveries in space as it begain to expand from the Sol System. Despite this, he had no real ambition to ever leave Earth, that is until the Turians encountered and fired on a human ship, starting the First Contact War.

Suddenly feeling the call to protect his species, Norman tried to lie about his age and enlist, but he didn't get far before he was found out and turned away. He would have to wait until after the end of the war and the establishment of the Human Embassy on the Citadel before he would be old enough to graduate high school and enlist.

Even with the war over, and humanity starting to settle into the newly discovered galactic community, Norman still felt the call to serve and after basic training, he applied for Officer Candidate School. He passed the entrance exam and was admitted. While attending he caught the eye of a young Naval Cadet named Rebecca Taylor, and the two started dating, despite the rivalry that was held between the Navy and Marines.

The two eventually graduated, with Rebecca accepting an assignment to the SSV Okinawa, an Alliance Frigate assigned to patrol the border between Systems Alliance space and the Skyllian Verge.

At the same time, the colony of Mindoir is attacked by the Batarian slavers, prompting for Norman to volunteer for front line duty. His request is granted and he was assigned to the 9th Frontier Division, due to to be deployed shortly thereafter. Along with the rest of the 9th, he's sent to the system of Cybele in response to the colony by the Batarians.
