BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS
Naomi was born to a Betazoid mother and a Human father. Naomi's mother, Nime Asaito, was a Starfleet Captain who fell in love with Naomi's father when she was on leave on Earth. After the leave had ended, Nime left Earth to return to her duties but then realised that she was pregnant. She returned to Earth on her maternity leave. After Naomi was born, Nime was called back into duty and so left her newborn daughter with her husband, promising that the pair would get married when she returned. She never did. Her ship struck a mine whilst on patrol and the damaged caused destroyed the ship. It went down with all hands.
Naomi was raised by her poor father on the islands of Hawaii. Spending her days swimming, surfing, and helping her father fishing, one day, when she was ten, she woke up blind, caused by an unknown virus. Whilst the doctors tried everything to save the young girl's eyesight, they were not able to do so fully and she was left partially blind in both eyes.
Unable to spend her days on the beach anymore due to the fact she was bullied by the other kids, Naomi found a new past time, in engineering, helping her dad by building new ways of catching fish. When she reached eighteen, her dad pressed her into joining Starfleet, wanting her to have a better life than the one he had. She did so and managed to get in.
Her time in the academy was nothing notable, but it was the first time she felt like she fit in. On her promotion, she was assigned to the USS Africa which began her steady career in Starfleet.
After serving a complete tour on the USS Lusitania, a Galaxy-class starship, she was transferred to DS13 for a new chapter of her life, on the USS San Francisco.
