BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Katherine and Kirstine were born to Charles Carrick and Nala Yalul. Growing up they spent their childhood mainly on Starbase 235 with their dads posting there as an Engineer. Occasionally they would accompany their dad when he was posted onto one of the ships attached to the Starbase.

Growing up, Kat spent a lot of her time with her mum and her science team that was on the station, a mix of Starfleet and civilian scientists, like her mum.

Going into her teenage years, she started to take a real interest in science as a possible career for her, so she managed to get school assignments wherever possible to work and study with the scientists on the station.

When Kat turned 14 (2409), her mother took her along with her on a science vessel that she and her team were going on to investigate a strange reading that had been reported coming for a nearby system. They had only been in the system for a short while, just starting to scan the reported anomaly when suddenly the ship lost main power after feedback from the sensors caused it to overload. While the crew was still trying to restore power, the ship came under attack from a Borg vessel which later sensor analysis showed had been the cause of the anomaly, the ship had managed to fire off their distress beacon before the Borg boarded them.

Once the ship had been boarded, the order to evacuate and abandon ship was given while the security teams attempt to delay the Borg. Kat and her mum were running for the hanger bay and the waiting shuttles when Nala took a stray Borg round to her leg, causing her to hit the deck hard in shock. Kat tried to help her along, but this slowed them down to the point that the Security teams had caught up to them in falling back and the Borg were hot on their heels. They were approaching the hanger bay with the Borg almost on top of them when Kat gets shoved forward by her mum, towards the security team holding the door. Kat turns in the grip of the security officer who is pushing her through the doorway to look back at her mum just in time to watch her being grabbed by a Borg drone and having Borg nanites injected into her. Before the door closes with the Engineers sealing it behind the Security team still trying to hold the Borg off. Kat is taken to one of the shuttles, with shock setting in, she just let her self be guided up into the shuttle and strapped in before a quick take-off and docking with the ship that was responding to their distress call.

When she turned 18 she began to study at Starfleet Academy with her primary focus of study being physics, while she was there she also took courses in medical training and communication systems, along with language and linguistics. She graduated with a full commission for the rank of Ensign where she was then assigned to Deep Space 13.

She served aboard DS13 with her twin sister for the next three years going on several missions and getting involved with a range things, including a close call with a giant plant in a science lab and lab that smelled like pork.

But come 2418 and her promotion to LTJG she decided that she wanted a change, she was friendly with a number of the crew on the Valley Forge and when she heard it was going into uncharted space her and her sister jumped at the chance to transfer onto it before it departed.
