BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Corporal Emilia Kelly is one of the first biotic soldiers in the Alliance Navy and as of 2170, one of the strongest human biotics. Born from a family with a history of military service, Kelly's mother was an engineer on board one of humanity's first FTL ships and was exposed to element zero during the early stages of pregnancy. This caused Kelly to develop biotic potential upon birth as well as paraganglioma, tumours on the peripheral nervous system. Though the irregular growths were removed in infancy, the condition has continued to impact her body's management of adrenaline, leading to dramatically accelerated heart rate during periods of stress and exertion.

Kelly was located by Conatix Industries in 2159 and selected for Biotic Acclimation and Temperance (BAaT) training. There, she and other biotic children studied under the turian mercenary Commander Vyrnnus, who subjected them to a brutal regime. Kelly's overproduction of adrenaline nearly killed her several times during training. Despite her unfit state, Vyrnnus continued to push her and she only managed to survive until BAaT's closure due to her impressive biotic abilities.

Her father's death in the First Contact War, combined with her treatment at the hands of the turian instructors in BAaT caused her to develop a hatred towards turians. Eventually, she began to dislike all Council races after learning of how they handled humanity's various crises and she sees the current galactic system as corrupted by their complex policies and traditions. Unlike several other students of the BAaT program, Kelly harbours no ill feelings for the Alliance or any humans involved in hiring the turian mercenaries as she believes they were forced to do so because of Council politics. Instead, she demonstrates patriotism and an eagerness to further humanity's development.

After BAaT was shut down following the death of Vyrnnus, Kelly followed in her parents' footsteps and immediately enlisted in the Alliance Navy. Her biotic talents made her uniquely suited for the marine branch as it was a combat skill that few other humans possessed. Due to her biotics and her otherwise peak physical shape, the Navy was willing to overlook her condition and allowed her to serve. Kelly was given a suit of Sirta Foundation's Phoenix Armour, whose signature health regulators are equipped with Ivabradine to slow heart rate, Medi-gel to heal wounds and act as an anesthetic, and other chemicals to help manage adrenaline levels. This allows Kelly to fight without killing herself, though sustained exertion, especially the stress of unleashing her full biotic ability, can still lead to issues. Like other L2 biotics, she also regularly suffers from headaches and other complications.
