Driskivian

Driskivii come from the planet Boruka, the second planet in the Eitil System. They are the dominant of the three races that have evolved on the planet; the other two being the Ciskisna and the Kriomir.

Appearance and Biology

The Driskivii are a humanoid race. They have leathery forehead ridges and pointed ears. Driskivii age rapidly; they go from birth to adulthood in a number of days. After around twenty to thirty years, Driskivii begin to grow "younger", with their attitudes become less mature, memory loss, shrinkage, and loss of sexual maturity. By the age of sixty, all Driskivii are infertile, comparative to a human pre-teen. After this, their decline accelerates and death usually sets in at an age comparable to a human five-year-old. Modern medicine has pushed back the start of the decline period, as well as extending the fertility range. However, after infertility, the decline is irreversible.

Driskivii brains are able to comprehend and retain knowledge very quickly. This declines when the Driskivii begin to lose their memories. Driskivii hair reflects this, with hair being snow white at birth, and steadily grows darker until their decline, where it begins to fall out.

Due to the planet's proximity to the sun, Driskivii have dark, almost leathery skins. Their scleras are black, with the irises being a variety of different colours, and the pupils being small to protect the eyes from too much light. Whilst humans often look to the eyes for visual cues when communicating, Driskivii use their eyebrows, ears, and noses as their secondary communications, with different flushes and movements indicating different emotions.

Driskivii also sport tribal tattoos of different colours. These tattoos are very personal and are not well understood, though they seem to be a form of identification amongst the Driskivii.

Driskivii are strictly monogamous, and reproduction is sexual, similar to humans. During intercourse, the woman releases eggs into the male to be fertilised by the male internally. The embryo develops inside the male in a sac underneath the genitals for a period of two weeks, when the sac detaches itself from the male and the child is born. There is no reproductive cycle for the Driskivii, the only limitation being the success chance of the female's eggs entering the male, and the time it takes for the male to regrow the reproductive membrane underneath the genitals where the sac is formed; this can take from two to four weeks. The Driskivii child then has to be nursed by the mother in order to gain the hormones needed for rapid brain development.

Much of Driskivii history has been lost. What remains shows of a centuries-long war between the Driskivii and the other two races, where the Driskivii eventually triumph. After this, records begin to form and development is steady. The Driskivii discovered warp flight in 2386, with First Contact with the Federation happening in 2398.

The Driskivii began to open up Federation membership talks in 2416.

Driskivii society seems to be rather egalitarian. The Driskivii practice direct democracy, whereby all political issues are voted on by all Driskivii. There are no members of parliament. Each year the Driskivii elect the President who decides on the issues that are to be voted on. The President also appoints ambassadors and members of select committees to oversee various departments. Appointees are titled "Honourable".

Some Driskivii families seem to carry the moniker of Lord and Lady, though this does not seem to bring any societal influence.
