BIOGRAPHICAL HIGHLIGHTS

Unlike most asari, Aliya Dalanis possesses an extremely low biotic potential. While many asari choose not to develop their biotic abilities, Aliya is unable to as a result of generations spent off Thessia, often incorporating the genetic material of non-biotics, the latest of which was a young quarian on his pilgrimage. While she can use biotics to a very limited extent, namely moving small objects, her lack of talent in something which has become characteristic of her species has made her feel more closely connected to her father's people.

As a youth, Aliya dreamed of becoming one of the famous justicars, and was heartbroken when she realized that her lack of any significant biotic abilities disqualified her for such work. Instead, she found her talents in working with technology, becoming a skilled engineer. Aliya still hoped that perhaps she would be able to enhance her biotic powers with advancements in bio-amps, but her research proved fruitless. Giving up on her dreams, Aliya attempted to seek out the Migrant Fleet, looking for a place among the quarians.

As expected, most quarians rejected Aliya as an outsider despite her having a quarian father. However, her mechanical skills impressed many who thought she could be a boon to the aging ships of the Migrant Fleet. As a result, several captains offered her the chance to 'prove herself a quarian and useful to the Flotilla,' which meant embarking on the tradition of a Pilgrimage to find something that would be beneficial to the Migrant Fleet. While most quarian captains do not usually reject gifts brought back from a Pilgrimage, Aliya knew that her situation was vastly different, and thus she set out to look for something truly remarkable.
