The Alliance News Network Intelligence (ANNI) is a virtual intelligence construct used by the Alliance News Network (ANN) for reporting and information gathering, particularly in areas unsuited for the presence of reporters. To date, ANNI is the network's primary method of obtaining footage from war zones or planets with harsh climate. ANNI uses camera drones which possesses their own, thinned-down variant of the VI without the ability to perform interactions with people, which means live reporters are necessary in order to conduct interviews. The drones provide a rudimentary level of defense for itself and reporters that it travels with, capable of delivering a weak electrical shock to enemies that come too close.

ANNI entered usage in early 2167. Its creation was surrounded with controversy; when first unveiled during development in 2165, the Citadel Council declared the VI's quantum computer too similar to an AI blue box. With the VI intended to gather information all around the galaxy, the Council feared that the data would make it dangerous if it were to go rogue. As a result, the Council demanded to place guards at the VI core facility. ANN refused, as this would give the Council the potential to discreetly alter the footage and data they gather and thus control the flow of information.

The project was put on hiatus for a year due to the disagreement. The Council eventually proposed the installation of AI shackles developed by Synthetic Insights, one of the corporations they trusted with AI research. ANN and the development company agreed and the project was allowed to move forward. The Council also disapproved of the ANNI camera drone design, declaring the shock ability a weapon and banning the model from use on the Citadel.
